I came here with my business partner on Monday January 11, 2016 for a late night (around 10:30pm) snack and coffee. The cafe looks small from the store front but when you go inside, it's long in length. Clean and organized atmosphere. The donut cases were full of donuts, friendly staff (male & female), limited seating and loud music that was playing a latino radio station. I ordered a chocolate glazed donut (bar chocolate iced) with an ice hazelnut coffee with cream and my business partner ordered a coconut white cake donut. The donuts were AWFUL! Even though the donut cases were full of delicious looking donuts, that's all they were - good looking donuts. Both yeast and cake donuts were absoultely stale, as though they're been sitting around for 8 hours untouched. They were still semi soft, stale, absolutely no flavor that we both ended up spitting them out and tossing them in the trash can. The hazaelnut ice coffee was mediocre, which I expected. It was no better than the coffee that I buy at a gas station or 7-11. They didn't add any sweetner so I ended up adding 3 sugar packets and it still tasted bland. A 16oz coffee for $2.49, it was okay. For the price that I paid, I can't complain. Cheap food at cheap prices = low quality at this place. Customer Serivce - the 2 staff that was there were friendly. My business partner and I stayed for an hour at one of their tables (which was dirty and I cleaned it myself). There were 3 customers total at the time when we were there and the entire time the female employee talked LOUDLY and non-stop! I have no idea why both of them were talking so loud but it was very annoying since their conversation was echoing in the cafe since it was quite. I don't expect for staff to stay quiet or not to interact with each other but she wouldn't shut up the entire time that we were there and not once did she lower her voice. I would probably come back and try 1 more time, a different pastry & coffee. Beware of the bottom two rows of donuts. A toddler was walking back and forth eating and handling the food behind the counter. I'm sure this violates many health codes seeing as there is a deep frier back there and other equipment, much less the sanitary issue. Came here looking for an alternative to the always busy Starbucks and low and behold .... I found one ! So what the coffee is made from a machine ! The coffee is literally half the price of a Starbucks coffee. I purchased a small coffee and muffin for $3.29 with tax. Not bad ! For the health conscious peeps, they have fresh squeezed orange juice and a green juice drink made with apples, pineapple, kale, and orange juice for $3.99. The staff are very friendly and you're usually out in five minutes or less. It's time we patronize the ones who paved the way for Starbucks and coffee shops that came before them. We like this place. Good location. Nice staff. Conveniently open 24/7. Good bagel sandwiches. Sometimes they don't answer the phone at all for togo orders so there were a several times we ended up not getting sandwiches there. Since bagel sandwiches take some time to make, it's best that we order on the phone to pick it up. So the phone not being answered is the only flaw here but other than that, we like this place. read more

Do not order sandwiches from this place! They give you bad ones. I ordered bacon avocado cheese sandwich and the avocado was rotten. Normally, you would not be able to see the avocado because the cheese is melted on top of the avocado. I happen to scrape some of the cheese--personal preference--and there it was rotten avocado. Am not talking about blackened or bruised avocado, but r.o.t.t.e.n. I spoke to the manager today and he tried to justify his employee's wrong deed by saying they were out of avocado when they made my sandwich. Are you kidding me?! Don't come here. See attached photo of a raw donuts. The other donuts were burnt. When I told the store employee they shouldn't be selling those donuts, they just nodded. I even asked him to pull them from the shelves before someone got sick. Nothing happened. What pisses me off is that they know that the donuts weren't at consumption quality, but they kept selling them. I get it, no one comes to Winchelle's for good donuts, they are (usually) okay. But today, they have lost the service of me and my company. How in the world will you sell donuts that you wouldn't even eat. This is a health concern. Even contacting the HQ branch, they could care a rat's ass. If you're in the area and want donuts, just go down the road to Arroyo. Those at least are cooked properly. This is my neighborhood Winchell's -- and it's a good one. The case is always well stocked, the donuts are fresh, the store is always clean, and the tables and chairs are comfortable enough if you want to sit and have your coffee and donuts there. It's way better meeting someone here than at that crowded big-name coffee place next door. I usually come in around 2 or 3 am to pick up donuts for breakfast the next morning. The guy working there Saturday night/Sunday morning is usually hard at work making donuts, and you may have to wait a minute or two so he can finish what he's doing, but he's polite, always glad to help, and as low-key as he should be at that hour. I get the feeling that everyone in Pasadena goes to bed before 11. That's why I like hitting up Winchell's and saying howdy to the only other person in town who's up at 3. As for the donuts themselves, even if my buddy at 3 in the morning is making them himself, Winchell's is always Winchell's. So go for the glazed. They also make a dang good bear claw. This place has a laid-back, old-school vibe. The interior is spare, with vinyl orange seats and formica tables. Oh, and it has pretty dang good doughnuts. I like the plain, sugar variety. If you go early in the morning, the doughnuts may still be warm from the oven. Mmmm. They are best eaten with a cold half-pint of milk or hot coffee. It's also nice and quiet, so it's a perfect place to do a bit of studying, read the paper, or catch up on paperwork. Went to this location earlier today. I see other reviews complaining about the service but mine was okay. It's a Winchell's chain, and a 24 hr one to boot. The level of enthusiasm from the employees was what I expected, not thrilled to be there but helpful none the less. Fine by me. I ordered a Winchell's dozen and asked what donuts were excluded from the deal. After being informed I chose 14 donuts, she boxed them up and I was on my way, pretty simple. In defense of Winchell's Donut House. It's a chain. But just because it's a chain doesn't make it bad. What I like about Winchell's is that it's ALWAYS OPEN. That means for a guy or gal like me, night owls, people who sleep hanging from the ceiling with one eye open always; we always have a place to go. Even better is the inverse of every other food establishment; the later you arrive the better the product. They make the donuts at night. Which means if you arrive late you're bound to have some 'fresh from the fryer' goodies waiting for you. Sure there's always a bum or two pretending to read the paper while he snoozes away. I stumbled onto this gem while hunting down a Starbucks. I was actually going to the Starbucks next door! But I saw that this place had wifi, and the Starbucks was small and dingy. I walked in, and was instantly amazed at how clean it was! To my experience, most donut shops appear dirty and not appealing. As I walked down further to the counter, I passed many chairs and tables. All clean, and well kept. The wonderful lady at the counter let me know about how the bagels and sandwiches are made. I ended up getting their combo deal, which was a bagel sandwich (chorizo), a donut (or a bag of chips), and a coffee (or soda) ! I experienced wonderful service, was given a lovely meal, and was surrounded by an amazing atmosphere. This place is big enough to fit many people, whom might want to study. Winchells you Bitch, you have broken my heart. I came in this morning to get some of my favorite donuts to take back to Northern California where I can't get them anymore. I know it was beastly hot, about 100 at noon but I walked in to an empty shop, asked the gal for 6 chocolate coconut donuts. I then clarified not chocolate flavored cake but vanilla cake donuts with the chocolate icing and coconut. They are my favorite. I also asked for 2 crumb and a maple cruller. She put them in a bag, cruller on top. I went to Starbucks, ate the crueller while I was waiting and enjoyed it a great deal. I fought 117 degree temps through the central valley, got home to San Leandro, ready to chill my donuts a bit, wrap them and stick them in the freezer so I could savor them. Came in today and ordered my regular hot deli sandwich but substituted turkey for ham. It's supposed to come with bacon and avocado, both if which are not on it. All there is is turkey, cheese, and sauce. Very disappointed by this. Also, the service was the most horrible I have ever experienced there. My mom was in town visiting, and we were talking about doughnuts and how we both hadn't had a doughnut in over year. We decided to walk down to Winchell's the next day and split one. The Cashier had a bad attitude -my mom has a yorkie who is a service dog, and I understand the "no pets allowed" policy, but he has papers that allow him to go anywhere. We told her that he was a service dog, and we offered to show her the papers, but she just rolled her eyes and asked curtly what we wanted to order. We decided on a glazed doughnut and a strawberry banana smoothie. There was no line, but we waited way too long for that smoothie. No napkins or silverware sitting out either. Also, most of the menu board was covered up by their tall coffee machines -it was a crowded mess behind the counter. But the doughnut and smoothie were delicious, and the other cashier even wiped off side of cup for me. I'll probably go back -no other doughnut places near my place anyway. We've been to this Winchell's twice. Both times, the service was horrible. First, the wait itself is long. Even if there's only one person in front of you, or even NO person in front of you. The second time we went, there was no one in front of us. The two people in the back didn't seem to pay any attention to us. The man walked by twice, not even giving us a glance as we stood right next to him. The girl further away could plainly see us in the mirror hanging there for that very purpose, but either didn't bother ever checking to see if she had customers, or simply didn't care. The man finally said something (after minutes of waiting) to the girl, and then let us know that we should just wait one minute. Second, when you do get service, it's not very friendly at all. Both times we went, female cashiers worked with us. Both times, those cashiers seemed annoyed just to be talking to us. The other thing is the price. Their "large" apple fritters are literally smaller than most "normal" fritters. They're also more than a dollar per, which is on the spendy side. Even the "small" fritters are over 80 cents. All that is to say, if you're expecting decent prices because it's a chain, you'll be disappointed. The donuts themselves were nothing amazing, but they also weren't anything to complain about for the most part. The fritters and maple bars are good. The "cinnamon bun", however, tasted nothing like a cinnamon bun or cinnamon roll, and just like any other glazed donut. We won't be headed back to this Winchell's again. What a disappointment! After years of hearing how great Winchell's is, how they're so much better than Krispy Kreme; this morning I stopped for 2 glazed and 2 eclairs. The young man behind the counter informs me that 'we don't have eclairs, the only filled are these..' I asked are those like a Boston creme filled? No answer. I ask about some other 'bar- chocolate covered' and he says they're cake with chocolate frosting & puts my donuts in the bag, I pay, and go. The look on my boyfriends' face was priceless when he saw I had brought home winchells! I opened the bag to see the eclair bent, doing a downward-facing dog in the bag, and worst of all, the chocolate covered 'Boston cream' style filled donut was upside down on the bottom of the bag! The chocolate of course stayed in the bag and then I noticed that the papers were missing- the ones that they use to pick up the donuts and should've been around each of them- no sign of them! Tried calling the store to ask the young man what he was thinking, but they don't answer the phone either. This Winchell's was pretty decent and offered free WiFi, which I loved! However, there are no outlets to charge your devices, so even though you have free WiFi, it will only last until your charge runs out. I had some work to get done and was on a time crunch, so I left to go to the Starbucks next door To charge my laptop. I came back and the cashier, who recognized me, was kind enough to offer me the WiFi password after the Starbucks closed and allowed me to stay and finish my work. The customer service was actually pretty good, and I do love that it's 24/7 if anyone has any late-night cravings. It was decently clean, with ample seating and parking in the rear, but sometimes parking may be a little difficult to find. However, it does get pretty noisy and the WiFi connection is pretty slow, so don't come if your deadline requires really good internet and is fast-approaching. Would definitely come again! read more

I love this place! I grew up down the street and this is my new go-to for meeting up with old friends when I'm back in town. I'm usually swamped with errands and end up having to meet with people past 11:00pm or even midnight when everything nearby is closed, so the 24-hour store hours are very convenient. There's a hispanic guy who wears glasses working there for late night shifts, who is very very friendly. He won't get impatient - if you're someone who takes a long time to choose your 1/2 dozen donuts, he'll be patient! They don't, however, have a bathroom, so be sure to plan in advance. read more
