Whaaaaat. Is it really 24 hours?! And it's in walking distance from me? Not that I'd be brave enough to walk alone in Pasadena at midnight for a donut, but still. Good to know. I walked in, chosing one donut over a $4 cake pop next door at Starbucks. One donut was $.85. WHOOP under a dollar, good for me. I got a simple chocolate glazed donut. It looked kinda cracked in the window, I wasn't sure how it'd go down, but I like it! I'm a fan of Krispy Kreme and this donut was definitely more "real" tasting, as in less sugary tasting, and more cakey and thick. I almost want a more glazed donut! Now that there is a dunkin next door this place has some competition but winchells can hold its own. The classic glaze is my gauge for a quality donut place and this shop has a decent glaze. Fluffy, not too heavy on the oil, and a good sugar to donut ratio. If i need a fast donut that satisfies my cravings, this is my spot. Dunkin still wins on coffee, though. read more

Every year on July 4th, we celebrate Independence Day in America. This celebration includes family and friends gathering, bbqs, fireworks, and parades, to say the least. Well, before the festivities started, I came by Winchell's for a good old fashioned cake donut and, believe it or not, a photo shoot. As I indulged myself with my warm, rich, sweet, and colorfully sprinkled cake donut, I was being photographed by a student photographer for her college project. I was to pretend that I was gazing away, while eating my donut. Much to my surprise, I realized that I was actually enjoying my donut. Little did the photographer know, I was seriously giving genuine looks of interest because this donut aroused my taste buds. When my food is really good, I have a tendency to eat it slowly, that way it will last longer. So, after about five minutes, I finally finished my ever so good cake donut from Winchell's. for some reason, i've never been a fan of winchell's. the name alone sounds more like a place to get my car repaired than a place to get a tasty doughnut. i had a craving a few nights ago, though, and the deliciously doughnutty smell wafting from here was enough to lure me in after i finished my grocery shopping at pavilions. i bought a jelly doughnut and a glazed (one for dessert and one for breakfast!) for around $1.60 or so. the jelly one wasn't terrible but it certainly didn't taste like jelly. it was more like that weird strawberry stuff that you can buy at the grocery store to put in pies - smooth and tasting like extra-viscous strawberry-flavored syrup. the glazed was perfectly serviceable even though i ate it two days later. it wasn't amazing, but hey, it was a doughnut. their saving grace is that they are open 24 hours and this is useful to know in case of a doughnut emergency. read more

Day after Halloween and I thought it would be nice to bring my coworkers some donuts to keep their sugar high going from all the candy the night before.... But of course after placing my order I look in my purse and realize I totally forgot my wallet after taking it out to go "trick or treating" w my kiddos. I tell the guy pulling my order to stop cuz I forgot my money... So embarrassed! But as I'm just about to walk out the door "Nes" stops me and says "wait one moment"! I do like their apple fritters, their raspberry filled donuts. That's my favorite. Their maple and chocolate bars are delicious so are their buttermilk bars and their twists and glaze donuts. My husband really likes their crullers. I also love their ham and cheese croissant. I always order 2. It brings me back to college when the cafeteria used to make ham and cheese croissants. Damn it food network you have done it too me again i was watching the best thing i ever ate and they featured these delicious looking dough nuts. I first looked up how i can make them myself but unfortunately i had zero of the ingredients go figure. Any-who I still wanted a dough nut and this is the closet shop to me and so up and out i went to get myself a yummy dough nut. The Lady who was working was very nice but couldn't tell me when the dough nuts were the freshest which i thought was weird. I like this place a lot. I think it's one of the best winchells I have gone to. All the workers are very friendly and helpful. I ordered the turkey sesame bagel sandwich and it was super delicious. I've been here once and will never return. I ordered a donut & it was moldy. So I ran to the counter and got some milk to clean my palette, and ... the milk was sour! I kid you not. This place has been here since I was a teenager in the 80s. It was a necessary stop before our weekend outings. I do not eat donuts anymore, but being in the area for an errand and seeing this shop, made me crave a plain donut. It didn't disappoint. Good cake, not greasy with a light crunch. I eat healthy so no donut shop will ever get a five star rating just because they promote unhealthy eating. However, I enjoyed the nostalgia of the place and my half a donut! read more

I should know what I ordered more than them, due to the fact they do not place on a receipt what my order is.
