Another very long over due review of a great business. Winchester Auto Parts. I have been exclusively using either Winchester Auto Stores or Winchester Auto Parts since 1982. At one time I worked for one of their competitors, United Auto Parts, 1977-1982. These two companies shared a great respect for each other. After leaving UAP, I shopped exclusively at the Winchester Auto in Campbell. The team there knows their stuff. If they didn't have it, they usually could get it for you in a day. In 1984, they opened a new location in downtown Willow Glen. Dale and a few of the members from the Campbell location went to this new location, where I exclusively shopped until the end of 1999. At that time they moved the store from downtown Willow Glen to it's current location in Evergreen. The team there is still great. This place can get busy without much notice, especially on weekends and holidays. Sometimes you need to exercise some patience when it is busy as each customer has their own unique needs and each customer takes their own amount of time. The honor system of first come first serve seems to work well. Only on a few occasions have I seen where it was taken advantage of by another customer. I those few cases I have spoken up for the customer that was next in line. Pricing is always fair. I will admit that since the Internet has come along, sometimes you can find lower prices on items, however you then have the shipping and additional wait time or if it is a another local business you have the drive to that location, time and gas. Additionally, sometimes when you order on line, the product comes to you damaged or it is incorrect. Then the hassles of the on line return process. The team at Winchester does their best with the information you give them to get you the right part the first time. I only had a problem once and it was related to a set of front brake pads for my 1999 Suburban K2500. I will admit to not having all the correct information when I asked for this component. Oh and if they don't have the part you need, they can usually get it within a few hours if you call before 300p. After 300p, you will usually have to wait to get the part until the next morning, unless you are willing to go to one of their supply warehouses and pick the part up yourself. Yes this is a very good option if you are in a jam. You can find coupons for Winchester Auto in the local Evergreen phone book, on line and sometimes through their direct or weekly flyers. Between all the team members at Winchester Auto, you have the most knowledgeable group of people related to auto parts in the area. No one person knows it all, however some of them come very close. read more

My go-to place whenever I come back home and need a something for my car. I grew up in Evergreen and my entire family has always gone to Winchester for all of our supplies. We have had several cars throughout the years and the staff always know what products/brands to recommend depending on the car we have and what we need. I live in San Francisco now but I was in the area and I remembered I needed new wiper blades to get ready for the rainy season. As soon as I remembered, I knew I had to make a stop at Winchester. Truly the worst experience I have ever had at a parts store. I went in to charge a battery at 12:30. I went to go grab my wallet from my car because you have to pay to charge a battery (unlike literally any other parts store) and the guy said that he just put it on. My friend went in an hour or so later to pick it up, and the guy said "oh for the white guy?" and then said he hasn't put it on the charger and said to come back at 3:00. We come at 3:30 and they just threw it on the charger. Please do not waste your time here and go to the one on winchester. read more

Usually, I purchase parts at the larger chain stores or online from a wide range of vendors from E-Bay to Summit Racing. Wincester is a "local" store with only a few stores in the South Bay. Even if it inconveniences me, I always try to do business with local businesses. My perception is that their customer service people tend to be more experienced than the larger chain stores, and my perception is that they tend to stock higher quality parts. Perception aside, their prices are higher. They are less conveniently located (a factor when you're in the middle of a job and need a part). But I expect that in return, I will get better service. My experience is just the opposite. I bought a starter, and it was the wrong size. With receipt in hand, I went to return it and the person at the counter looked confounded and mildly upset. I swear it, this was the dialogue: "Well, why are you returning this?" "It doesn't fit my car." "What do you mean it doesn't fit?" "I installed the starter, and the starter drive gear does not extend far enough to engage my flex plate. It does not fit. I have the receipt." "[disgusted look] you need to talk to my manager." Manager arrives. "Why are you returning this?" "The starter does not fit." "How do you know?" "I installed it and while measuring the fitment to determine if it needed shims, I extended the drive gear fully and it barely reached the flex plate. This is the wrong starter for my car." "YOU installed it? [he's getting excited and hostile]" "Yes." (a strange question given this is a retail parts store) "Did you replace it? Yes. The car is in the parking lot. The new starter fits well and starts up beautifully." "Did our starter fit besides it not being able to reach the flex plate?" "Yes, but if it can't reach the flex plate it won't start the car." "You bought this Saturday?" "Yes, as the receipt states." This went on for 5 minutes, and resulted in me having to call the manager of another store (Wincester Blvd.) to "authorize" the return. This resulted in them being upset (special mention to Alex, the manager of the Wincester store who was rude to the point of being an embarrassment to the profession and to the good people that work at Wincester Auto Parts). There was no acknowledgement or apology of the wasted time and labor in attempting installation of the wrong part they sold me. Here's the summary: Chain stores tend to be more uniform and consistent in honoring and applying warranties. Wincester Auto -- according to my direct experience -- can be arbitrary about standing behind what they sell. read more

Even after explaining to the person at the counter that the battery was in a car which was parked in the garage for two year due to COVID, I was told right away that I needed a new battery. It seemed like the guy was too eager to sell me a new battery. Another approach IMO would've been to slow charge it and see if held the charge. These guys are the best!!! I felt really bad for coming in on a rainy day but my check engine light came on. I didn't have a lot of time because I had school but my check engine light popped needed to know if my car would be able to make a trip up highway 17. These guys were professional, friendly, and all around the good guys. The OBD2 scan is a free service they do and it was nice and quick. They told me why the check engine light was on and answered all my questions like how much it would cost to fix, should I be worried about it right away, and would be car be able to make it to my vacation. Just wanted to leave feedback on my experience at Winchester auto. I've been having a hell of a problem trying to figure out my issue with my car. It was running really rough. Sergio at Winchester recommended that I replace the spark plugs with some AC Delcos and told me to make sure the plugs were gapped to specification.And guess what, it worked and runs perfect now.
