I love the decoration of both the inside and outside of the cafe. It is so unique and interesting! When I walked in I was super impressed with the menu. Extremely reasonable prices for unique and interesting food. They also have a sauce variety of drinks, smoothies and homemade pastries. Plus the people that work here are super nice! What caught my attention was the Grilled Goat Cheese with Smoked Salmon, Tomato and Dill. Super simple ingredients, so each as every flavor was able to shine through very well. The goat cheese paired really well with the salmon, and was warm and melty on the bread. I loved the tang from the goat cheese and the salmon flavor, a little unexpected to see on the menu but it just works! The bread itself was lightly toasted so it had a great crunch when you bit into it. The tomato gave a good bit of freshness to each bite. The salmon was super good, but I would have probably appreciated another slice. Honestly thought, for the price I paid, the food was extremely well put together flavor wise. Extremely fair price, and would definitely order this again. I also order a herbal raspberry tea and had no issues with it. Total for the sandwich and tea was only $15. Worth every cent! A great place to get delicious, great quality food without costing an arm and a leg. I definitely want to come back here again and try some of their other food and pastry options. Probably a new favorite cafe in the area.

I decided to head over the hill to Santa Cruz this morning to get some sand between my toes. After my walk at Seabright, I was getting hungry and popped into Windmill Cafe for a quick bite before heading home. The small parking lot was full when I arrived so I had to drive around a bit and finally found a spot across the street. There's seating inside as well as patio seating which is where I sat. I needed some sunshine and fresh air. You place your order at the hostess stand which is oddly placed blocking the door. If you want to sit inside you need to squeeze past which felt odd. The menus are outside hanging on the wall. Here's what I ordered: SURFS UP - 2 scrambled eggs, 2 slices of thick cut bacon, home fried potatoes and a piece of sourdough toast with butter and jam. This was your standard basic breakfast. Everything was good although $13 felt kinda high especially with the portion size being pretty small. MEXICAN HOT CHOCOLATE - I love a good Mexican hot chocolate but this one needed to be much warmer and more spice. The temperature was barely lukewarm. Service was wonderful. Super friendly staff. Not sure I'd drive all the from San Jose to eat here but I'm sure the locals love it. Fast, unpretentious and many items are gluten-free.

Great service. Lovers of nature and protectors of habitat. They planted milkweed to attract monarchs. Now they are nurturing and protecting them.

Cute, good food, listed as good for kids (I think it depends on the kids :( ) very sunny outside small cute look inside. Likely won't go to again :) Not a fan when people make any amount of comments about little ones and volume it's not like they are phone controlled at the age of 1-3 :).

Having celiac disease, along with other diet restrictions, it is hard to find good options to eat at on vacation. I have passed this hidden gem countless times over the years, and it is now my absolute favorite place to eat in Santa Cruz. Literally every item but one in the menu was gluten free. And they sell amazing gluten free baked goods as well. This place is a dream come true. The guy greeting us at the door was extremely kind and very helpful and patient as we asked about the menu. The kind service and cozy vibe at this cafe is enough to bring us back over and over. The food though... The food was honestly so great. Gluten free/vegan food can look strange in some cases such as these waffles, but they were absolutely delicious, and the French toast was incredible! 10/10 overall.

We were hunting for a solid breakfast spot and honestly weren't sure from the outside. But the moment we walked in to a warm welcome and were seated right away, we knew we'd picked the right place. My grandson -- who can be a bit high‑energy -- was treated like a little gentleman. Seeing him enjoy himself let me actually relax and enjoy my own breakfast: a massive plate of French toast so good I couldn't even finish it. Linda's Sea Breeze Café is the kind of place that wins you over fast. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great start to their day.

We got there about 10 am and had a bit of a wait with people continuously arriving so it's clearly popular. You write your name down and request inside or out or first available. It was a bit chilly so we opted for inside. We were seated after about 20 minutes. It's pretty small inside so the addition of the picnic tables outside is a plus. We all ordered different items, sausage and eggs, bacon and eggs and blueberry pancakes. The egg breakfasts came with a side of either toast, a pumpkin muffin or a cinnamon roll. We ordered a muffin and a roll. The food arrived fairly quickly which was good because after a 2 hour drive we were ready to grub. The egg breakfasts were pretty average in taste and portion. The blueberry pancakes however were good a good size and came with 3. I did think the pumpkin muffin was fire and my bf said the cinnamon roll was excellent so maybe it's their baked goods that are part of what makes this place so popular? I didn't think the amount of food we got was that much of a value as it was a $60 breakfast. Other downsides for me was the parking situation which is common in SC. We found a spot about 2 blocks away. Also, the bathroom is outside and in dire need of a makeover. Lastly, they don't take cards. It's cash or check only. WTH? I haven't seen a restaurant take checks since I was a kid so that's been a minute, lol. Overall I can't really see myself returning other than to get the pumpkin muffin or cinnamon roll. Maybe I just need to try something different.

A restaurant dedicated to The Cheese. Cool…read more I moved from Santa Clara to Santa Cruz in 1972 and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I bought my first website from the O'Neill dive shop at the Harbor. Learned to surf at Cowells Beach, wearing O'Neill Seal Suits and Super Suits and Animal Skins, chasing Jack O'Neill around in his balloon with Mad Mike driving. Timmy O'Neill pushed me out of a dingy in the harbor channel once but I've forgiven him. They called Jack "The Cheese" but apparently I've been gone a while because I wasn't aware there was an entire restaurant, bar and lounge dedicated to The Cheese. Went there on a Thursday night in June and didn't have enough quarters to pay the parking meters on that uphill. Got lucky and found a parking space at Cowell's and used the change machine to get $5 in quarters, which is what it cost to park for a couple hours. Walked past a mural dedicated to several decades of Jack O'Neill going back to the 1950s: wetsuits, boats, hot air balloons, smiling girls. The air smelled like stale fish and salt. Inside was a clean, well-lighted place somewhere between funky and luxury .But closer to luxury. They've done a nice job with this place. The prices are reasonable in a city and a state and a time where prices can be unreasonable. Sat at a table up against the window, with a view over Cowells and the wharf and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the lights of all the fishing boats in the bay I ordered the loaded fries with avocado, which is kind of like french fry nachos. And they were good. Lots of Cheese. It's a smart idea to dedicate an entire restaurant to The Cheese, as this place is over the dirt where the first O'Neill Surf Shop was in Santa Cruz was way back when starting around 1959 when Jack moved his business and his family down to Santa Cruz and was perfectly positioned for the surf boom lit by the movie Gidget that exploded into the Beach Boys and Frankie and Annette and everybody went surfing. Only glitch was when I asked the bartender for the bathroom code and he looked at me askance and wouldn't give it up. He said it was for hotel guests only. Aren't food establishments required to provide bathrooms to customers? If I had any friends, I would take them to the Jack O'Neill Restaurant and Lounge. It's got atmosphere. P.S I've interviewed around a dozen white shark attack victims. I get their stories and tell them: "You had a rough day. I'll see if I can get you a new wetsuit. Look at the O'Neill catalogue and tell me what you want and I'll call Pat O'Neill." And Pat always comes through with quality neoprene, so maybe a restaurant for him some day?
