My wife and I visited for the first-time last night and I have to say it was one of the best experiences ever! The evening started with a little history lesson of the tavern that was originally a grain mill built in 1899. Our server Preston was right on pint, pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. The cocktails are amazing and are truly craft cocktails. The appetizer and entree were both great. Service, food, drinks all get 5 stars from us. We will make this one of our regular spots. We just had some fries and a flat bread pizza from the Tavern (on the patio at Peculier) and I most had to review it as it was literally the WORST flat bread pizza, if you can even call it a pizza - that we have ever had. It was dry, undercooked bread, with maybe a light brushing of olive oil, very dry old tasteless chicken, a little bit of dry tasteless bacon, with a drizzle of something they called avocado dressing. I don't think the chef actually tastes on food if they think that was good it was terrible! The fries were undercooked but pretty good with a dipping sauce that was OK. My fiancée and I went here for lunch earlier today. We went in and sat and waited 30 minutes without a single person talking to us or trying to serve us. We watched a good number of other guests around us being helped with drinks and food orders, while we continued to be ignored. We are Windsor natives and have eaten here for a long time (since it was renovated after the tornado). The food is great, but the service has always needed work. Upon giving the host our parties name he sarcastically asked for our ID's and made a snarky comment about our age and "guess who I thought was younger". It wasn't funny. When we were seated I was shocked to find out happy hour starts at 10pm. We went early assuming (because it is not posted on the website) that it was a standard happy hour. I'm not sure serving cheap(er) drinks at 10 until closing is a safe idea. We'll see how long that lasts. The most disturbing event was while sitting a man was practically sitting on our table being loud and rude. Seated promptly on a Thursday night. 2 people total and seated at appropriate sized table. Nice pub atmosphere. Table was not washed before we were seated, but waitress quickly caught that and disinfected while we were seated. We ordered 2 cocktails. Specialty menu of old fashions were recommended. 20 mins later, the 2 drinks arrived. 2 photos attached are the old fashion with and without the giant block ice cube. Have had a million old fashions at bars around the US.....none as empty as this. Nice $13 ice cube with a shot. Ordered a Coors Light.......waitress came back to inform me they ran out of Coors Light (smile). We decided not to order dinner in the next 20 mins because things seemed to be running slow. Ordered boneless bourbon glazed wings and Brussel sprouts with bacon and squash appetizers. They finally arrived in 10in increments. Chicken was hot and very favorful. The first several times we've gone, everything was great from service and food. The food is really good. We've tried the tavern chili, burger, fry duo, pork wings, Mac and cheese with chicken, pretzel, recette de choux. It's nice to have a great locally owned food choice nearby. Our last experience was a bit off putting as the wait for our order to be taken, the order and delay of our food (my husband's main course arrived long before our appetizer and my main course took over half an hour to arrive). We ordered dessert and they brought it to us to go which we did not request. I spoke to the manager and he was great, attentive, and offered us a gift card. I understand things don't always run smoothly and it's nice when they recognize it and offer to remedy the situation. read more

I LOVE coming here. It's a short walk from my house and place of business. Their drinks have not disappointed, the prices of them are fair compared to the work and preparation of them (not to mention the training the bartenders assumingely had). Our service has always been good, and friendly. I really feel the servers and bartenders take their time to try to remember you, many of them have gone out of their way to say hello on my few returns... the experience there is amazing. It's not your typical bar or place to visit. It's unique and something Windsor definitely needed. The deserts have been amazing, the chili is fantastic, same with the fries, the chicken sandwich, the tortilla nacho chips and Salad. Some food needs a bit adjusting but what NEW place doesn't have things to work through? I've had great experiences with all the owners, Earl, and managers that I've met while being there. Excellent visit! After limping back into the dining- out world due to Covid, it was a great visit. Food was excellent, as always (bison burger and bison philly), and super tasty fries. I love this place! It's such a cool setting in the lower level of the old Mill! It feels warm and cozy with a rustic feel with the exposed beams overhead. The bar is a great place to sit to enjoy cocktails and a appetizer. The 2 main bartenders are excellent in their craft and offer great recommendations on what your preference is. I love the old fashioned cocktails. They have a great selection of quality appetizers and entrees. I've never had a bad dish here. This is usually the first choice for my friends and I when we want to relax and enjoy some nice cocktails and food. read more

We live very close and decided to finally check out the Windsor Mill Tavern last night (Monday).  We had no wait at all for 4 people and there was plenty of socially distanced seating available.  We are so glad we decided to come here! We had the brussels and butternut appetizer, which is to DIE FOR! It is so delicious! They have a great selection of beers on tap and a wonderful wine selection.  I had the C*B*R flatbread, which was really good.  Two guys had the reuben and another had the sloppy joe!  All delicious and the fries look like thick chips.  Everything was cooked well and everything on the menu looked great. We will definitely be back!  The server was quick and attentive.  We are glad this place has survived COVID! read more

The coolest spot in Windsor! The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the food is SO GOOD. So far, the Moscow Mule is my favorite drink and is served in such a fun mug. The atmosphere is one of a kind as it's set in the basement of a once historic building. The lighting is perfect and the layout makes me feel so cozy...there really isn't a bad seat in the house! I don't even know where to begin! Right off the bat, the hostess was so friendly (customer service has seemed to decline through COVID), and we walked in to get drinks while we waited. Brad made me one of the best Old Fashioned's I've ever had. Then we were taken to our table. It was busy so we didn't get service right away (not a big deal). I ended up flagging Laurence down and didn't realize he was the head chef, but he ended up serving us all night and it was PHENOMENAL. I feel like that's an understatement, but him and Leah (the manager) were fantastic. Laurence was fun, entertaining, and his customer service was unlike anything any of us at the table had experienced lately! He had us laughing so hard and he was so personable. The entire staff was wonderful, but Laurence is someone I'd go back to see in a heartbeat. His food is delicious, he has a secret sauce that is to die for, and if you want to burn calories while eating because you're laughing so hard, go see him! Plus he serves our country so that makes him a badass too! This is the second time we have tried to call for takeout and not gotten a response from this establishment. We did not want to do Grub hub so we decided to call to place a take out order and pick up ourselves. No response when leaving a message and online website does not allow you to place a food order. During this time with COVID we want to try and support our local restaurants but if they aren't going to make the necessary changes to accommodate the changing times, then we can't support them. Recommendation from a disappointed customer is to keep your website updated. If the only way to order food is to use an outside delivery service, then clearly state that on your website. Currently it says to call the restaurant to place order. I would love to go in for dine in but that's just not an option right now. read more

My son and I went into this restaurant shortly after their opening. It was very good and the service was great. Tonight, my husband and I decided to order via Grubhub. Since it had been good before, we ordered Windsor Mill Tavern. Upon delivery, we noticed that our orders weren't entirely correct. I phoned the restaurant and spoke with the manager there tonight, Brad. He was very respectful and extremely kind. He apologized and went overboard to make it right for us. Having been business owners, we knew it was the right thing to do to let them know. However, everyone makes mistakes but not everyone goes to the measures that Brad did to correct them. The host told an inappropriate joke while we were waiting. And what a wait it was. Everyone around us was seated. But not us. We had a party of five and the host couldn't figure out how to get us seated as we had an odd number. Over 45 -60 minutes and We finally got in and got a table. Atmosphere was great. Food was only so so. Everything is ala carte. I had to send my green chili Mac n cheese back because it was dry and only had five small pieces of green chili's. What a great new addition to our Windsor family! Just a thought for your servers. Ours was delightful. However, when I asked her advice on a Chardonnay she said I should have a specific one. Let me first start off by expressing I am all for supporting our local establishments. We have been here over 1/2 of dozen times and their cocktails never disappoint. We love the ambience of the place. The food is just NOT that good for the price. So it's time to write a review for the food. The CHEFS need a lot improvement. When you go to a "Tavern" you expect that type of "GREAT" tavern food and when an establishment can't cook a hamburger correctly its time to express your concern. I ordered the "Bison Burger" medium and it came out well done. It happens but when the waitress tries to fix it on the second attempt and you receive it again "very well done"....that is a huge problem. Manager buzzed by our table and we expressed our concern but he did not know how to fix our disappointment....???? Not sure we will be back again for food! P.S. helpful hint ....steam your Gluten Free buns do not toast them they become very dry and crumbly. read more

Ate at the Mill Tavern on 12/22. Service from David D. professional but not overly warm or particularly interested in our experience. Ordered the chicken tenders, fry was bland and chicken chewy and overcooked. Mule was served in a tall glass, drink was tasty but traditional mule mug would be preferred minus all the extra ice in tall mug that overly waters down the drink. Did not realize Wednesday was live music, we were seated up front and concerned about volume of music, server said they would not start until 6:30. (Wrong) At 6pm, solo singer started up and neighborhood cats were howling by his way off key squeal. Venue too small and ceiling too low for live music. Entree was the Mac and cheese with chicken. What a disaster, might be my fault for not reading menu carefully enough but the chef threw in everything from grapes to jalapeños. One thing chef really failed to include was much cheese, Mac and cheese is pretty classic hard to screw up but they did. David took away my only 1/3 eaten plate without asking how it was, because he didn't care and it showed. Brussel sprouts appetizer was good and we finished it off. Have worked in hospitality biz for nearly 30 years....my suggestion to the operator, hire a consultant. read more
