This review is for a delivery order, so my expectations for the quality of the food were adjusted (especially since it came from across town). It took about 1.5 hours from their location to East Anchorage. I ordered 20 piece wings in original/hot. I asked if they could do 5 in garlic Parmesan, but they only do flavors by orders of 10 pieces. The chicken was done in a dry rub style and had a Cajun spice flavor. They held up ok during delivery, but weren't as crisp as I believe they're supposed to be and the flavor was just ok. I originally ordered gumbo, but they ran out so I ordered jambalaya instead. I really wish they packed the rice on the side instead of everything in one box since the dish wasn't going to be served right away. By the time we got it, the rice soaked everything up and was mushy. The flavor was ok, the heat level was good. I was expecting bigger chunks of sausage and chicken, so the portion would have been skimpy if I didn't order it with shrimp (additional $). Tons of rice though. There was also a small loaf or hoagie roll type thing of garlic bread that was unremarkable. I'm not sure what dish it was supposed to go along with. We probably won't be ordering delivery from here again, but may try it again if we're ever in the area. read more

Luckily I live about 10 minutes away so my food is still nice and hot when it arrives. Customer service is good, I believe the person who answers the phone also does the deliveries. I've made a new friend ordering from them so much lol. I've also only ordered pick up a handful of times. There's no where to sit and eat, it's almost like a deli-type setting I guess. Maybe one table. Nothing fancy but who cares they have the best wings in town. I've tried their burgers and fries, and that wasn't bad either. If you haven't already, get you some wings!! The five star rating is for the wings, which are seriously the best in Anchorage. The sides range from so-so to pretty good. Their estimated wait times can sometimes be off - especially durning football season - but definitely worth the wait. Don't be fooled by the small location and questionable decor; this is a take out/delivery joint, not a BWW. phone service was bad service in the store was bad and the food was, the wings seemed dry? If that makes sense like literally had some ashy on it like it was dehydrated? Jerky like. Anyway there was barely any meat on them bones BUT I will say the sauce was good but wasn't much but some tough ass jerky meat on the wings to eat the sauce with. read more

I just wanted to say... I have been keeping this place the best kept secret,. That was kinda selfish on my part. Winky's Wings is the best !. Everytime I have been treated well, and The food is beyond expectation!!..I always order the Inferno Wings and the Gumbo w/ Shrimp..excellent!!..and delivered too !.. I've eaten at Winky's twice now. For a little background, Winky's is sort of a hole-in-the-wall place and it's kind of a dump inside. That's not meant to be insulting -- it's basically a no-frills take out joint. The inside has a VERY tiny counter area where you can order your food and stand around and wait for it. It has sort of an industrial vibe to it and doesn't look especially clean or inviting. One thing worth noting -- my wife always looks for health inspections when she walks in a restaurant and she said she didn't see one. I looked them up on the Muni site and they have had a number of critical violations. On to the food... The first time I ate there was back when they first opened. I ordered a cheesesteak. It was a good size and well-made. The problem was the seasoning. Whoever cooked the meat absolutely doused it with salt to the point it was inedible. At the time, I chalked it up to a new store and staff but I haven't really felt the urge to go back and try them again since. I also remember it taking a really long time to get my cheesesteak, despite there not being any other customers - more on this in a minute. Last weekend we decided to stop by and get wings for the Superbowl. I had read the ADN article on their wings and we decided to do our own wing tasting. Because it's Anchorage, we ordered and picked up the wings on Saturday. I called in an order consisting of mild Buffalo wings and garlic-parmesan wings and was told it would take 30 minutes. We got there about 25 minutes after placing the order. As I said, we were getting wings from several places. After placing the order, we had time to stop by Fred Meyer AND to order, stop and pick up an order of wings from Sparta Pizza, before heading over to Winky's, where I figured the wings would be ready by the time we got there. Silly me. I should have known there would be a problem by the number or people standing outside and inside at the counter. Not only were the wings not ready 25 minutes after placing the order (which I had been told would be ready in 30 mins.) -- my wings hadn't even been dropped in the fryer. Long story short, my wings took nearly an hour from the time I placed the order until the time I got them. Again, keep in mind this was on Saturday -- not Superbowl Sunday. On the brighter side, I met some really nice people and we chatted while we stood around waiting on our food. Most had been there much longer than I had. For two of them, it was their first time eating there and from their comments, it would be their last because of the excessive wait. During this time, we watched the girl at the register do her hair, her makeup, talk with friends on the phone and generally do everything EXCEPT help customers. Also -- I'm not sure if this is normal or not -- but there were two little kids (4-6ish?) running around playing and another small boy (10-12ish?) sitting at the counter playing video games. I assume they were the kids of people working there. By the time we left, she was telling people it was an hour wait on food and they would not be taking any more orders for Sunday. So how was the food? It was a mixed bag. The garlic-parm wings were delicious. They were drenched in butter, huge chunks of roasted garlic and tons of gooey cheese so how could they be bad? The only downside was that we ate some Saturday and reheated some on Sunday. Because they were so drenched in butter, the Sunday wings didn't reheat well at all and turned into a soggy mess. But Saturday, freshly cooked, they were very good. The mild Buffalo wings are a different story. We tried wings from multiple places and I will give Winky's kudos for having the juiciest, most flavorful wings we tried. HOWEVER, we ordered the wings mild and these were SCORCHING hot. I don't know whether they screwed the order up or not but if those wings were meant to be mild, I would hate to try any hotter than what I received. They reheated well the next day and were nicely crispy, but unfortunately the heat only intensified overnight. So would I go back? Probably not. In my two trips, 2 of the 3 items were poorly/ incorrectly prepared and the service was inattentive and abysmally slow. Other people seem to be fans so maybe it's worth a trip to see for yourself if you can find something on the menu you like. The prices and portions are good, but the preparation is just too inconsistent for my taste. read more

This was our favorite wing place. Sadly the last 3 times we have ordered from here our order was completely wrong. Giving the wrong wings, not giving the correct amount (ordered 20 got 10) ect. And the inferno tasted no different than the hot wings. Hopefully it will get back to the quality that it was when we loved it so much. read more

Another place to call ahead! We ordered the western burger, fried zucchini and 10 wings. They said it would be 25 minutes, so we took a walk around the shopping center next door. They do not have any seating, except maybe 2 folding chairs and 2 arcade games inside. It's take out only, but the food is pretty good. My burger was good, similar to Carl's jr but way more fresh, obviously! The fired zucchini was a big order, but perfectly cooked. It was a little much for 2 people. The wings were a little on the small side, but maybe they're the hormone free chickens? I'll probably try some of their other stuff, but it's not a priority. read more

Saw someone at work eating some wings from here. They smelled good...so I decided I'd check them out this weekend. The interior was dark and looked unfinished structurally. I was met by a beautiful young girl that looked to be around 3-4 years old. Soon after I was greeted by an adult young woman who took my order. After looking at the menu I decided to try the hot wings and a half Philly Cheesesteak. I was caught off guard when I was asked whether or not I wanted Provolone cheese or cheese whiz. I opted for the cheese whiz. She informed me that it'll be 15 minutes. I kinda thought that the $17 price tag for 10 wings and a half a cheesesteak was high but I was game. While waiting...I noticed that there was a lot of pick-up orders. It seemed to be the main source of business as the phone rang continually. In addition...the delivery person seemed busy as well. Good thing to know that calling ahead for pickup or delivery is the better option since there was only one metal folding chair available while I waited. True to their word...I received my food in about 15 minutes. I decided to start with the cheesesteak. I was a bit upset at the fact that it was simply meat between a roll with cheese whiz on top. There was a generous portion of meat which only fell off of the bread with the cheese whiz into the container. With no silverware to utilize I was forced to use my fingers to put the meat and cheese back on the roll so that I could enjoy the entire taste of the cheesesteak. All in all the cheesesteak wasn't bad. But I was looking for more which I didn't get. Would I order it again? It wouldn't be a first choice but I'd give it another go....but with provolone instead of whiz. The 10 wings I ordered hot. At first look, they appeared to be evenly seasoned and plump. They smelled absolutely delicious! With a dab of ranch which they provided as a side I took the first bite. The wings were awesome! The hot dry rub sneaks up on you and doesn't even hit you until about the third/fourth wing. But when it kicks in have a beverage of some sort ready to put out the flames that are building on your tongue. The rub wasn't overdone and there wasn't a lot of grease from the chicken settling on the bottom of the container. The hot flavor didn't overrun the taste of the chicken or the ranch. The favors all melded together to compliment each other. I give those wings an A. I will definitely be back for those. All in all I would say that the meal in its entirety wasn't bad. I was impressed by the service and the wings. The sandwich leaves a lot of room for improving but I cannot say that it was bad...I just expected better. But it wasn't bad at all. I'd be willing to try one with provolone just to see how that makes a difference. read more

Best dry rub wings in Anchorage! The hot and inferno are my favorite. I also highly recommend the gumbo, catfish platter, and Philly cheesesteak sandwich with jalapeños. We just got done with a delivery from Winkys. We had the buffalo wings, Catfish and the Loco Moco. It was very very good!! I will definitely eat at Winkys again. The catfish was great and the Loco Moco was better than i expected with awesome brown gravy. To tell the truth I ordered the catfish just in case I didn't like the Loco Moco and needless to say I am having catfish for lunch tomorrow!! Was not a fan at all! I went for garlic parmesan wings, I had never heard of saucy garlic parmesan wings but hey, I figured I'd try them. Husband got regular hot wings. My garlic parm wings looked like straight puke! It was as if someone took nasty OLD alfredo sauce and drenched it over some chicken wings. I tried it, but didn't like it so I took a napkin and took the sauce off. I couldn't eat it with or without sauce. Husband's wings were not crispy and drenched in sauce. We asked for extra crispy wings. Sorry, but there are much better wings out there than Winky's! read more

Finally tried this place as my friend's been raving about it for awhile. Hole-in-the-wall order to go restaurant specializing in hot philly sandwiches (very good, with lots of meat!) and wings/other fried foods. I had the deep fried breaded mushrooms and those little golden nuggets of happiness were perfect for my taste buds that day. To be honest, I kept craving them the next few days and had to control myself. ;) I also had their philly with green peppers/onions and the nacho cheese stuff. I would recommend getting some swiss or provolone cheese instead though, to be more healthy. This place is on the south side serving fresh, hot foods that satisfy your hunger. The meat in the philly was unbelievably good and a huge portion, so not sure if that was double meat or not. Do yourself a favor, go check them out (and the gigantic jet-ski race map on their wall inside)...or order delivery, I saw their guy and he looked super cool (actually a bit like Santa Claus or something).
