I've been coming to Winnie & Ethel's for years, since shortly after they opened in late 2023, so this experience honestly left me hurt, embarrassed, and extremely disappointed. We arrived around 9:30 a.m. Saturday with three adults and a child. We were seated at a table where two of the chairs were extremely flimsy and felt like they could collapse underneath us. Every time we moved, the chairs shook. This wasn't about being picky -- we genuinely didn't feel safe. When the table next to us opened, we asked our server if we could move. She asked the hostess, who then came over and loudly said from about 10 feet away, "We're really busy. I can't sit you anywhere else. What's wrong, you don't feel comfortable in the chairs?" The way she handled it was humiliating. I am a bigger person, and I'm very aware of that. I should not have to feel ashamed or embarrassed for asking to sit in a chair that feels safe. My wife was literally crying because we were worried one of us could fall in front of everyone. We felt singled out and, quite honestly, body-shamed. The hostess suggested putting all four of us side-by-side on a bench, which isn't exactly a comfortable way for a family to enjoy breakfast and have a conversation. She could have simply told us we would need to wait 20-30 minutes for another table, and we would have completely understood. We spoke with the manager, who offered to remove our dessert. I wasn't looking for a free meal -- I can afford to pay for my family. I wanted our concern to be taken seriously and handled respectfully. Then the hostess came to our table and said, "I don't know why you're mad," followed by, "I swear on my daughter's life." That response was completely inappropriate and only made things worse. Our server and manager were not the issue. The problem was the hostess and the way she treated us. After years of supporting this restaurant, I never expected to leave feeling embarrassed and ashamed of my body. Management needs to seriously reconsider how customers are treated, especially when they raise a legitimate safety concern. If you're on the heavier side, please be careful if they seat you in those flimsy plastic chairs. You deserve to feel safe and respected, not humiliated for asking for a different chair or table. This wasn't about wanting a better table. It was about wanting to be treated like a human being. read more

The bad: the perceived indifference from the team when I asked about why the nutter butters on my pancakes were not crushed (reading that sentence this is CLEARLY a #firstworldproblem). The menu says "2 malted pancakes topped with carmelized banana, crushed Nutter Butter cookies, peanut butter drizzle, and served with W&E cane butter syrup." Got that mental picture in your mind? We went on a Saturday morning and as expected it was packed and we had to wait 50 minutes to get seated. The wait staff was very friendly and very polite even though they were extremely busy. The place is pretty crowded and they definitely cram as many tables as they possibly could in there. We ordered the biscuits and gravy, which was mediocre. We also ordered 2 chicken country fried steaks and we got one chicken and one pork. I kept the pork because I wasn't willing to wait any longer for my replacement. This was my second time eating there, So I took my son there today for his 21st Birthday. He got the county fried steak breakfast and I got the fried chicken sandwich, which I ordered because it was featured on the YouTube video. My son said his food was great, and that chicken sandwich was the best I have ever had. Normally in any other restaurant I would just go past a Chicken sandwich, however this one is outstanding, amazing! This place has been on my list since the opened. I grew up eating southern country food. It's just on the other side of town. We had occasion to be out that way and jumped at the chance to grab breakfast. I really like the atmosphere and appreciate a diner counter vibe. We had reservations and it was basically opening time so we were seated right away, but it took a while for someone to take our order. We ordered food and drinks all at once including bloody marys. The food did come out in a reasonable time but the bloody marys came out after the food. The coffee and water didn't get a refill until the end of the meal. So service wasn't great but adequate. The food is where the disappointment came in. I am a sucker for country fried steak but the choice is pork or chicken. I went with the chicken. They are known for their scratch biscuits and gravy but neither had any flavor. I would have to assume the gravy was made and sausage crumbled in cause there was no flavor. I was surprised that butter wasn't served with the biscuits and there was no way to ask for some. She got the standard breakfast with ham, bacon, sausage and eggs. We wanted to try something new on a whim and decided to try this restaurant. We went on a Friday morning, and we proceed immediately. It took a while for our server to come and take our drink order, which was a little bit annoying because the restaurant wasn't packed. We realized our server had been talking at a table from the time that we walked in until she walked up to our table, which was about 10 minutes later. I'm an extremely timely person so little things like that absolutely irritate me. I told my husband if we have to wait another couple of minutes we were gonna go ahead and leave. While we were eating, our server came over to see how things were going and at that point I ordered a bluebird lemon drop martini. We finished eating and our server came and picked up our plates and my drink still wasn't there. After a few minutes, my husband said we can cancel the drink and when our server came over, she said I think your drink is being made now. After a few more minutes of just sitting there, my last drink finally came and he ended up getting more coffee because we had been sitting there for so long. Their breakfast cocktails were surprising delicious, I got a spiked cold brew alongside my original diner breakfast. They were well seasoned, tasty, and had a nice little crunch to them that gave great texture. I ordered the corned beef Benedict and substituted the English muffin for a biscuit. From bottom to top: the biscuit itself had great flavor, but it was a little too hard on the top and bottom and came out lukewarm. The corned beef had really good flavor as well, but unfortunately it was cold. My poached egg was cooked perfectly soft just how I like it, but it was also cold. The hollandaise sauce was excellently executed flavor wise, but again, it came out cold. I was offered to have it remade, which I appreciated, but it did take a while to get my plate the first time and I was starving at that point, so I decided to just eat it.
