I was in the area collecting signatures and asked a firefighter the best place to get breakfast. He referred me to the Center Cafe. I had a the steak and eggs with vegetables. It was delicious. I really enjoyed the selection of vegetables and their freshness. The food was so good I made a second visit on Patriots Day. Well the school vacation week left the place short of staff. But the gentleman did his best to hustle and I had another great meal. It was a bacon, egg, and cheese on an English muffin. Oh and a side of vegetables. They were great again. It truly a great sign when even short handed, they produce a consistent great meal. read more

Three options were presented when I woke up this morning: A) we make a good breakfast (but we need to go to the grocery), B) we go out for breakfast or C) use the toaster. I was leaning towards B, what I really wanted were pancakes, preferably the perfect pancake that is either as good as what I make at home or better. Donna's was floated as an option but I wanted to mix things up and try someplace else. This led us to Winthrop Center Cafe. Good service, decent prices, mediocre food and abysmal decor pretty much sums this place up. Make no mistake, this is a townie place where loud old ladies go after church. If you keep your expectations at realistic, this place should probably hit the mark. Ryan liked his eggs on toast, but I didn't get my perfect pancakes. In fact, as appealing and fluffy as they looked on the plate, they were way too dry. These are the kind of pancakes that absorb and, seemingly, digest, any butter or syrup you put on them and it takes mass amounts to make them moist enough to consume. By then you've sozzled it in so much syrup that your teeth ache. I asked for a side of bacon and a side of sausage. The sausage was OK, a very generous portion, but the bacon was a bit sad: skinny, paper thin little pieces. It was clear it was neither thick cut nor Applewood, but even your basic Oscar Meyer bacon looks more impressive. Where did they get this stuff? The Winthrop High cafeteria? The coffee was fresh, the juice selection was pretty good (all off the shelf stuff, my V8 came in a can) and the service was fast and friendly. If I lived in Winthrop, I'd probably come here again, but since I have closer and slightly better alternatives, I think I'll stick to them. read more

Would give more than 5 stars if able! Flew to Boston on our way to Ct for a convention and found this place on yelp. We all enjoyed our delicious brunch, staff and owner were super warm and nice. Daughter left her 2 days old retainers on the table wrapped in napkins. We called few hours later and they found them and kept it for us for few days. They close at 2pm and agreed to leave the retainers outside for us to pick up on our way back to the airport. They went above and beyond with their customer service and will come back anytime we're in Boston for a great brunch. read more

My wife comes from Winthrop and we were in town early so I looked for a place to have breakfast. I saw the veterans honor wall and good reviews on several sites so decided to stop in. Breakfast was good, I especially liked the home fries and coffee refills. We arrived just in time as the place filled up quickly. If I'm in town early again then a return visit is likely. read more

My boyfriend and I had a terrible breakfast. Spent 23 dollars on 2 pancakes that were most definitely frozen they were dry folded back from the middle then fell apart would not cut making it impossible to pick up with a Fork. His eggs were cold the home fries were like biting into saw dust balls.. tasted like onion horrible! My bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. The bagel was burnt.. I was expecting to find bacon slices but it was chopped up in the egg making it chewy and unappealing. It was like our breakfast was premade and sat there till we actually ordered. Toast was soggy drenched in butter. Wouldn't eat here if it was free. Was not worth it and we will not be returning!!! read more

It's a cozy little cafe in the center of the town. I tried their Denver omelet and it was delicious! The portions and seasoning were done just right. I was frankly pleasantly surprised because I wasn't expecting anything. I really liked that they cut up the veggies and meat in smaller pieces. Some places love to cut up the ingredients in large chunks in an omelet, but I prefer the smaller pieces so that was really nice. read more

We have been coming here for 5 years now and it's a Winthrop staple. I like it because there is a wall celebrating military vets. The portions are huge and the prices are pretty good! It's right in the town center so you can do other things and run errands. read more

Great prices and awesome portions. I got a steak and cheese, added fries for just $1 and got a huge Greek salad.. they kindly gave me extra dressing as requested in my order. My boyfriend and I were able to share everything and it left us both full in the end. Delivery estimate was an hour, but it was delivered in less than a half hour. Driver respected my request and called my phone as opposed to ringing the doorbell (unlike some other places that I order from) and you can't beat free delivery! I'm really glad they extended their hours, they just have to update their hours in here. Finally some other place I can order from other than nicks. Definitely found a new favorite place ! read more

Had heard people raving about this place for a long time (including my family) so we opted to go for breakfast. EXTREMELY slow service from start to finish...had to ask twice for the iced coffee I ordered, among other things. Ordered an omelette with home fries, toast, and a side of bacon. My family's food came out long before mine did and when mine did, there were no Home fries or toast and the bacon came out later than the omelette did. Oh. And there was a piece of plastic in the omelette which made me throw out about two-thirds of it. First time and last time here thanks. Center Cafe is an overlooked gem! I've never had any problems or issues here, everything is cooked and served as ordered and quickly. My fussy daughter claims that the Center Cafe cheeseburger is the best in town. Young'uns, don't be put off by the slightly "long in the tooth" clientel. This a great spot to grab coffee, breakfast or lunch. There are tables outside during milder months and the seating inside is copious albeit it close. I usually order and run. All this yelping is making me crave a Center Cafe breakfast! Gtg! read more

Food and coffee at this place are very average. But need to say, the owner is very rude. I went by on a lazy morning for a chill breakfast and coffee. Sat inside eating and checking out the news with their wifi on my iPad. I literally had been there for 30 minutes when the owner sent another staff over to ask me to leave because I had "been using the internet too long". What makes it worse, I literally was the only customer in the entire place. Now I guess I know why. Would never return. read more

A Google search found this place for me after a chilly walk around Deer Island. A no-frills diner with really good food. I *loved* the chicken noodle soup. I found out it's prepared when ordered, rather than ladled out of a hug pot, so it took a while for it to come out. The broth is salty and peppery and fantastic, and the meat is very nicely seasoned. I would come back here just for this. I grabbed coffee to take with me and I gotta tell ya, it was way above par for diner coffee. Great find. read more

My husband and I has breakfast here recently and it was good. The menu is basic diner food. Lots to choose from they serve lunch and breakfast. The prices are fair. We were able to fit a largish party in the small space with no problem. The wait staff was very nice and the they listened to all out special requests and got them right when the food was delivered, which is a big plus. The atmosphere is about the same as High Tide in Winthrop, just a tad smaller. I would go again. :) read more

I've never had a bad meal here. I love their omelettes, eggs Benedict, home fries, oatmeal, iced tea, and especially their pancakes. You can even substitute out home fries for grilled veggies if you want a healthier option (and the veggies are great too!) I can't enjoy pancakes anywhere else afterwards having them here. The service is always excellent and I love the homey vibe with their "wall of heroes" (a dedication to local veterans). I find the prices very affordable for breakfast in the Boston area. If you are in the mood for breakfast, come here. It is located in a convenient spot right in the center of town. The place also has an awesome vibe. It has pictures of our veterans, and the tablecloths are vintage. The food is also very good. The fries are my favorite thing ever. Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Pretty disappointed since I came here and spent $20 on food based off good reviews. Anyway, we got the Eggs Benedict and a cheese burger. They're home fries are amazing, and they give a generous amount of sauce. But there is milk in their hollandaise! Their sauce was on the thicker side so I should have known, but it tasted like nothing. Hollandaise needs some lemon juice and at least pepper for flavor. Only one of my eggs were cooked enough to eat..But that's a common mistake when you're cooking poached eggs in a mold. Luckily I ordered sauce on the side so I could look before it was all camouflaged. So the cheese burger is rubbery and doesn't taste good at all. But we wish it did because the veggies were good. And sadly the fries were literally so well done they are chip sticks. (I'm sure isn't the case all the time) and maybe this place was having a bad day..but $20 dollars later and all we can eat is the home fries. read more

Great, friendly staff. I've only ever gotten breakfast there but the eggs are great, the pancakes are fluffy, coffee is delicious. I'm basically a regular and they know who I am so it's like seeing old friends again every time I come in. It gets a little noisy cause the space is small and sometimes you can't get a seat so that's no fun, but when you can, it's always a good time. read more

Came this past week, on a weekday after 12 noon for a late mid-week lunch/brunch, so to note, we weren't the only ones there but it was not packed/crowded. Very much a local coffee shop, clean and brightly lit. Small counter were people can eat as singles, the TV was on, etc. There are a couple of large tables, and tables for 4 or 2. We had pancakes and french toast, both wonderful. Coffee was very good -- they serve New England Coffee and they were nice about refills. Waitresses were nice, one took our order and set us up, the other just delivered the food not sure if it was because their system and/or other was on break. Can see how it will fill up and be crazy crowded on the weekends. I believe they also do both take out and delivery, the delivery I think you have to have a certain minimum order, etc. It is right in the heart of the Centre (center), so parking is often a little tight but is short walk from the town lot (open to all) near the Citizens Bank. They are limited to breakfast and lunch, with early open and early close hours. Prices I think are fair for the high quality of food, consistent with other restaurants in town. read more

I love Center Cafe, for the Cheers like atmosphere, where everyone knows your name. Roger has built an awesome local meeting spot. I love his dedication to our Veterans, with his Veteran wall and his dedication to things in the community. My only complaint is that he needs to hire more help. He should have 2 girls at the counter handling take out and counter orders. and 2 people on the floor. The place is always packed, especially on Saturdays and Sundays after church. read more

My husband & I tried this place for the first time today. Loved being able to sit outside & enjoy the weather. I had eggs Benedict & in my opinion, best ones in town. My husband had eggs, toast & corn beef hash. The hash tasted like it was canned. The staff was incredible. While sitting outside I noticed wait staff helping a disabled man bring his to go order to his car. Then, a staff noticed an elderly woman in her car, took the time out of her busy shift & helped this woman with whatever she needed in the car and into the restaurant!
