How in the world did it take me so long to get to this place??? I built my own bacon, egg, and pimento cheese biscuit. It was terrific, and I really appreciated that the biscuit was fluffy and tender but not so short that it was crumbling and falling apart. Perfect. But let's take a moment to reflect on literally the best grits I have ever had. (And I lived in SC for two years.) I don't even want to know how much butter was in there, because I don't, I can't care. The cheese was sharp and tasty, there was enough salt in the grits themselves, and yeah, the butter. The country ham biscuit was not my favorite--essentially it is bacon, mustard, and a biscuit, but the bacon is very salty. To be fair, the menu does call out that it's salty, but it was VERY salty. My son had a fluffernutter biscuit and I had the biscuits and gravy meal. Everything was cooked well and it tasted delicious. This place is really delicious. My partner and I have been a few times now for both breakfast and lunch and always enjoy the food. My coffee experience there could be better but love the food, lol. I've had their biscuit breakfast with both bacon and with sausage and the biscuit is great. I definitely liked the bacon more as I thought the sausage was a bit bland but still enjoyed it. The biscuits were buttery and flakey, the fried chicken in the sandwich was juicy and flavorful, and the sweet items were delightful. It's also super reasonably priced! One thing to note is that there isn't a ton of seating so you're better off going in a small group of four at most. We were nervous when we got there because the line was pretty long and it was packed but it moved quickly and we were able to snag bar area seating not too long after we got there. We got a number to take to our seats and they delivered our food to us. I had had WCB on my radar ever since seeing them at the Bloomfield farmers market. Once they opened up a brick and mortar, I knew I had to try to stop by! We went around 11:30 am on a Sunday, and the line was all inside, but it quickly grew to the outside as we got closer to the counter. Have no fear, they are so effiencent on getting tables cleared and politely encouraging customers to be mindful of their dining in time so the tables can be consistently serving new customers. I've been a big fan of Wise County Biscuits since they started serving at Coffee Buddha and the farmers markets and have been waiting for their cafe to finally open. Tipped off be a friend that they were having a soft opening this week and yeah, I was there the first day. Stopped in around noon and the place looks fantastic. It's fairly large with a good amount of seating although I doubt it will be anywhere near enough once they fully launch. There's a counter area stocked with biscuits, cookies, and muffins. There are also a few counter seats. This is also where you will order and pay. They give you a number to take to your seat and deliver your food piping hot when it's ready. There's also a small freezer for take and bake goods. I ordered the country fried steak with eggs and ordered an a la carte biscuit. Absolutely delicious. Really nice portion size. The batter on the steak was perfect. I asked for my eggs sunny side up and they were spot on, nice and runny. The biscuit was drool-worthy as always, with a nice drizzle of honey. My friend ordered the diner burger and said it was really good, and that they were really underselling it in the description, especially just saying it came on a "potato roll". He said it really made the whole sandwich and tasted like a brioche. He also smartly ordered a side of potatoes which I'd missed as an option and they looked wow so good. Overall great meal. If I had any small issue it would be that the acoustics of the room are rough, so it gets very loud. When we came in we were one of only three tables sitting, but we were already having to yell to talk to each other. I've bought Wise County's biscuits from farmers markets, so I knew they were excellent, but hadn't yet had the chance to stop by their brick and mortar shop. I decided to change that on a recent morning off and they exceeded my expectations. This is a homey little spot with a nice neighborhood vibe. Nearly everyone in the shop other than myself was on a laptop, settling in for a while. I'm guessing this is not the case on a busy weekend, but on a weekday no one seemed to feel rushed. I went to the counter to order and got a biscuit sandwich with egg, which you can have made however you wanted (scrambled for me) and two toppings. I chose Pleasant Lane Cheddar and their mushroom and oat patty, which is a vegetarian (I'm guessing vegan?) take on a sausage patty and such an incredible joy to have offered. Their sausage patty is housemade and I'm guessing this is as well, and what a joy to have something like this as opposed to the standard Impossible types of offerings. This is probably the best breakfast sandwich I have had in this area, and at $8 very fair. Their breakfast potatoes ($4) looked delicious and I had to give them a try, they were crispy and seasoned and I would highly recommend them. I got a hot coffee which my server came and refilled at my table. I will never recreate their breakfast sandwich so well at home but that's not going to stop me from trying so I also bought a package of six frozen biscuits ($16). They also have gluten-free biscuits here. The weekend menu is biscuit sandwiches, yogurt bowls, breakfast plates and sides only, but the weekday menu also offers some lunch items like a fried green tomato BLT, grilled cheese and soup of the day starting at 11 a.m. This is a great addition to the North Side and IMO has pretty quickly established itself as one of Pittsburgh's top breakfast/brunch spots. read more
