Knowledgeable and Trustworthy!…read more I have a 15+ year old refrigerator that neither the refrigerator or freezer were working. Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.

He is very knowledgeable about different appliances and he knew mine right away and he had an idea what it could be and sure enough it was the soap & softener dispenser. He showed me how to remove & clean it. It had held water wasn't draining back into the machine like it was supposed to just a minor little thing but now I know how to clean it periodically. Worth it for my peace of mind & also made sure I knew where my water shut off was just in case. These are good things to know , most people might not & that I'm a woman & older, it's good to know. Plus it doesn't hurt to have my machine looked at after 16 years. I've been here so I won't be afraid to use my washing machine so thank you AKIA.

My 3-year-old Samsung refrigerator stopped cooling because the doors were inadvertently left open…read more I called Kelly, and he arrived within the scheduled window. He gave me a clear diagnosis and explained that the evaporator coils or air vents become blocked by a solid mass of ice, preventing cold air from circulating. He used a handheld steamer to quickly and safely melt away the ice blocking the evaporator coils and internal vents; however, it didn't work. He later instructed me to unplug the refrigerator, leave the doors open for 24 hours, then turn it back on the next day for 12 hours. I was happy to see my refrigerator fixed and cooling again. I recommend Kelly for your appliance repair.

Why 5 stars? Because we were in desperate need for a dryer repair and KrisKelly made the process…read morequick and easy. --- --- --- One day recently, we realized our dryer was no longer working - not an ideal situation in the middle of laundry day with a vacation on the horizon! I popped on Yelped, searched appliance repair, and it was very obvious that I should reach out to KrisKelly first, based on the great reviews. I submitted a request-a-quote on Yelp on a Sunday afternoon, and heard back Monday morning. By Thursday, there was someone at my house and my dryer was fixed within about half an hour. The service guy even gave me some great tips on maintaining my washer, dryer and other appliances for the future. It sucks to need an appliance repaired, but when you can get the problem resolved as quickly and as pain free as possible, it's such a relief. That's exactly what happened here. This will definitely be my first call next time it happens (hopefully not for many years).

He'll schedule times to come out and will ALWAYS have an issue and need to reschedule. We've heard…read moreof his "car break ins", "multiple emergencies", "new phones", "working late at previous jobs", "sudden illness", "being unexpectedly out of town"... This has happened several times. Even after telling us to unplug the machine the night before... and then nothing. No call, no show. I hesitated for months about writing this review because #1 I'm not trying to ruin anyone's business and #2 I didn't want to anger him and deter from continuing the service we already paid for. However at this point I don't feel that he is interested in our business either way. Kevin is a cool guy, personality wise. But business wise- Terrible. First encounter was March 2024 and the no ice / no cooling in either the freezer OR refrigerator issue is STILL not resolved as of now, September 2024. The last invoice paid was $350+ in May and supposedly came with a warranty but it does absolutely no good if he has zero contact. He has not answered or returned any calls or texts to either of the two telephone numbers since June. Again- cool dude- But if you want someone who will stand by their professional word and work... this one I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. (If by some miracle this gets resolved I will delete or edit this review. But for now, this has been our experience.)

We made a mistake in 2019 of buying an LG refrigerator at Best Buy. I have since found out it was…read morenot a good buy and I've been told more than once don't buy an LG refrigerator again and I won't. Our icemaker stopped working on multiple occasions, and this was the latest of those occasions. I tried to do some troubleshooting and it has worked a couple times but this last time nothing and that it was producing no ice whatsoever so I go online and try to find a couple places. The previous Yelp find, the guy came out and basically looked at it and said everything was fine. He did show me how to run diagnostic on it. I didn't know I could do that. It was a Bluetooth Device That is on the fridge that I was not aware of. But when I ran the test, it came back as everything on the fridge is working fine, but clearly it was not as it was not producing any ice. After another couple weeks of just buying bags of ice and manually putting them in the icemaker, so I can at least use my door ice machine I decided to call someone else and I called Kevin. He came out and took a look at it move the arm back-and-forth so I'll get you a quote and he called me back the next day and quoted me around $400. That that sounded not too bad of a price considering it was mostly the price of the parts however $400 on a $1500 refrigerator. that we are not gonna keep a long time didn't sound like the right investment to make so we did not go forward with the repairs. However, when Kevin was here and he was moving back the arm back-and-forth, all I can say is he has what I would call the repair man's Midas touch. That moving the arm back-and-forth doing a very basic diagnosis and tell them you don't buy LG fridge again, and now my icemaker is producing ice as it should be, also it should be noted Kevin did not charge me any fee. When I did a Yelp search it did say $60 diagnosis fee but I could not get a hold of him again to pay him the $60, so Kevin if you're out there and you see this holler back at me. I would absolutely call Kevin again, he had a quick response, and there was absolutely zero pressure to do anything that we did not want to do. He told me he works in the Houston area so if you're close to Houston. you should consider giving him a call for your repair needs.
