First I'll begin with the delicious chicken wings. It's really great comfort food . I never really had a meal there I didn't like .and this restaurant has been around for a long time. Okay this is a modest take-out only Asian food place, but if you are in this part of town I recommend them as decent quality and efficient. We have been on a Shrimp with Lobster sauce quest in NYC for some time and the entree we ordered was the best we have had so far. The shrimp were large and succulent and well-seasoned. As a frequent consumer of this kind of Chinese American take-out food, honestly Wok City is closer to a 3/5 when compared to similar spots, but I usually like to bump my review up a star to bring up the overall rating. Many establishments like this tend to generally get lower ratings, but I think it's important to view them through a slightly different lens when reviewing. Thus, 4/5 it is. Service is fast and curt. Not rude in my experience, but very to-the-point. While this kind of stuff doesn't bother me personally, I mention this because I've seen some people get upset about this when I come to pick-up my food. So, just be aware. Cash only with ATM inside. Not wheelchair accessible, but the staff will come outside to take your order if you can't get inside. Limited seating. Food comes out super quick. Like, I'll call to order ahead a few blocks from the place and it'll often be ready by the time I get there in a few minutes. Food-wise, everything is good, but its nothing special. The Sesame Chicken is pretty middle of the road compared to what I've had elsewhere and the Chicken w/ Broccoli is usually slightly worse. The Fried Chicken Wings or Fried Half Chicken with Fried Rice is probably my favorite item on the menu. Pretty greasy, but that kind of comes with the territory. In the same vein, the Chow Fun is flavorful and has a nice texture, but runs much more on the greasy side. I still order it from time to time, but it might be too heavy for some people. My sister got food poising from Wok City 2 years ago from the Mu Shu pork. She blamed the pork and thought she'd give the place another try 2 years later. 3 nights ago she ordered Mu Shu vegetables WITHOUT pork. The next few hours were spent in the bathroom violently erupting from both ends. I live out of state and was afraid I'd have to call an ambulance to take her to an emergency room. But this strategy works well for them, keeping service super fast and prices affordable for the lunch crowd. For $7.25, I got the General Tsos lunch combo with pork fried rice. The chicken was crispy and the sauce was delicious. The rice was just fine. I was in and out of the shop in under 10 minutes. Make sure to bring cash, it is cash only. The fried chicken seemed to be a popular choice as many of the other customers today ordered it, and I noticed a large platter of wings in the kitchen ready to be served up. Today, again Wok City is so great! I go to Wok City about once every week. It is not only just a block from Lincoln Center and near the Broadway Theatre District, but serves fresh and delicious food. They have a few seats, yet take out is quick, staff is friendly and I've never been disappointed. Just lovely people work here who are always happy to help all their customers. Sometimes I call ahead so that I don't have to wait inside the crowded restaurant---because I will leave smelling like grease. I haven't had any issues with the customer service. Used to order from Ollie's when it was on Broadway (used to actually be good years ago), but it went downhill and it closed, and Hiro Sushi at Ollie's by Riverside is shit, so I've switched to a few other Chinese joints, namely, Wok City. Oh the wasted years! Food is not only cheaper, but better. And the people are friendlier and seem to actually care about the customer. I love their tofu dishes. The tofu is big and lightly fried (not like the tofu at Empire Szechuan which are little cubes of over-fried soy shit-curds) so the outside is just crispy enough while still being squishy and decadently delicious. They have sesame tofu, but you can ask for, say, General Tso's and orange tofu ('cause it's just the same dish with a different corn syrupy sauce, right?) Honestly I'd probably be happy to have the General Tso's tofu as my last meal. Also strongly recommend the eggplant with garlic sauce. As another reviewer mentioned, I do applaud them for having some "American" dishes as well (e.g., fried chicken, french fries, etc.) They know their customers! (the students of MLK High School and the residents of the nearby projects buildings). This is not a place where you should eat if you want to eat healthy, however, if you want to treat yourself/are stoned and want to munch on some delicious food, and for it to also be cheap 'cause you've already spent a lot of money on pot, then Wok City is the ticket!!!
