I usually come to wok n fire when it's slow and have always had a wonderful experience here, but my last experience was just terrible. My usual experience would be 4 stars but this most recent would be a zero. Generously a zero. First, there was a line of people waiting for tables in the cocktail section politely. A mother and em daughter pair were waiting in front of an empty table when a woman cut the entire line and hijacked their table. The mother kindly told the lady there was a line and they were next, but the lady said "oh that's funny." And wouldn't move from the table. When the pair spoke to a manager, she said she couldn't do anything about it and offered them a free appetizer. Fortunately for the mother and daughter, a new table opener up quickly. Unfortunately for my friend and me, we waited another 15 minutes before getting a table. The manager offered us no free appetizer or any sort of condolence, despite the fact we lost a table just as much as the ladies in front of us did. Secondly, my friend and I sat at the next available table which was for a party of 6. After our drinks and soup came out, we noticed the next people in line were a party of 4 trying to squeeze into a table for two. We felt bad hogging such a large table so we offered to take the two-top so they could have a more comfortable one. When we explained to the server that we wanted to move so the people next in line could have a table, she gave us a bit of an attitude. Apparently, you are rewarded for being a table-steal you-know-what, but when you give a table away, you are met with an attitude. read more

The food was really good. We had calamari appetizer and crab Rangoon. I ordered a spicy noodle with chicken. Really tasty. My friend ordered the seabass it was amazing. The waitress was nice and friendly. They even has grilled cheese, fries and chicken tenders for the kids. It was just really loud in there and the manager had an attitude when we told her we wanted to add two more chairs. She first told me our friends couldn't join us but then when a table was about to leave she told us we can move to that other table. I think she just handled it unprofessionally . read more

Finally went to Wok N Fire Friday night for dinner. I was very excited to try another local Sushi place and had great hopes for this place but alas I was very disappointed in the food. It was definitely not up to par with sushi standards in my opinion. The rice in the rolls was very mushy and soft while the fish did not taste fresh. I always order Sashimi and that will tell you if a place has good sushi or not by the cuts of the fish you receive. We were also disappointed in the wait for the Sushi, we were there 1 1/2 hours and the wait for our sashimi was ridiculous. The server was extremely friendly and apologetic and she did take 10% off our bill which was very nice. I will stick to Swordfish for my sushi from now on, always fresh and great speedy service. read more

How the mighty have fallen. This used to be my go to for sushi in st Charles. The last couple times I have ordered the quality was lacking, rolls are smaller and just generally no good sushi. It is still $18 a roll though so my Son and I spent $70 with tax and delivery for3 rolls. Figure it out or go by the way side. Of course you can just blame COVID like everyone else does. read more

I had a groupon so I wanted to check it out. The decor was nice, well done. A little dark. It was a warm summer night, but indoors it felt like we were waiting for a club to open.. Which is an odd statement from me, because I prefer my bars darker? On to the food. I had a curry dish and I think my wife had a salad? I really liked my food. If it was socially acceptable, I would have drank from the bowl. Another little perk I like was the sake and beer deal? I think it was like $3 a beer with any sake purchase, or vise vursa? Trendy, good happy hour special, not as upscale as it wants to be. I like this place. I try to stop in for the happy hour special whenever I'm in the area (half priced appetizers, traditional maki rolls, and some drink deal I never take advantage of). The food is good, their Mango Ginger Ale is amazing (I have to get it every time I go), and the bartenders are super friendly. My only complaint is that the place is always insanely busy, with crazy wait times if you try to get a table after 6 on a weekend night. If you're lucky, sometimes you can get a seat at the bar or one of the 'first come, first serve' tables without waiting for too long. The bar area also makes for amazing people watching. This is not the place to go if you're looking for an authentic sushi experience - most of their specialty rolls have some element of tempura or mayo and are about as Americanized as you can get. It's like Asian themed comfort food. read more

This is an unbelievable find that I have come across. The quality of food and the ambiance is second to none around here. The sushi and small plates are incredible, and I keep on staggering upon new specials I can not resist. Everything that comes out of that kitchen is great. My first visit, however, has to be the reason I come back. Our server, Javier, is a knowledgable, personable, and very helpful server. I have yet to have service from that restaurant that matches the insightful input Javier provided. Thank you for providing an amazing restaurant and I will continue to dine faithfully. read more

Went to dinner there last night with a group of 9. We had RSVP's. They were pleasantly busy, but not overly so for such a popular restaurant in the middle of the entertainment district. Our service was terrible, worse then terrible. We requested separate checks by couple. That was not a problem. The problem was in the handling of the beverages, handing them out by the rims, placing them at the edges of the table... ripe for hitting with the elbows and spilling. The lack of follow thru, replacing drinks when ordered, we only got in one round in a two hour stay. The removal of dirty dishes, after dinner was thru, we still had dirty appetizer dishes on our table and half our dinner plates were still there when the checks were presented. The waiter never came back to the table to ask if our meal was okay, if he had I would have asked for additional cashews for my meal as my cashew steak had 5 cashews in it. When we gave $60.00 cash for a $59.68 bill he never came back with the change. We talked to a manager and told her that the training of our server was deplorable and we blamed her for the experience...and her answer? Nothing. She didn't do anything. NADA. We, as a group, will never be back, there are to many excellent choices in downtown St. Charles to choose from. read more

This was actually our second choice because we were planning to eat Mexican but the restaurant was in the process of losing. We are happy we chanced upon such a great place for Asian food. Erika was great and gave us wonderful advise about what to order. The appetizers (edamame, chicken patay and beef yakitori were perfectly tasty and came with delicious dipping sauce on the side to allow for individual tastes as it relates to spices. My main entree was teriyaki chicken - beautifully arranged, it was moist and tender. The vegetables (steamed broccoli and julienned carrots) were perfectly crunchy and paired well with the chicken. They were willing to substitute rice with vegetables. The Thai wing were awesome - flavorful and plentiful. Some left over to taste another day!!! They offered a large sushi with assortment of tuna, salmon and other seafoods - 10 pieces in all ! I wish we had space for dessert - sadly we were sated and happy and felt lucky to enjoy this place. I sat down at 6 o'clock, and waited 10 minutes for our waiter to even come up to the table. I then ordered right when she came to the table and waited 1 hour and 30 minutes and my food still did not show up to the table. Our waitress did not stop at the table one time. My wife and I went on a Wednesday night. All but one of the tables were filled when we got there and we got the last one. The atmosphere is hip with color changing LEDs and Asian inspired decor. We enjoyed the sushi and the crab rangoons. I think it may have been the best sushi we've tried since moving here. I had the Kung Pao Shrimp which was spicy and well made. My only criticism was that the shrimp had the tails on and I had to remove them myself. read more

Review is a bit late after I originally dined. I stopped in while traveling to Geneva with a significant other. We made it for the lunch special. Overall price was very reasonable and we were surprised with how little we paid and how full we left. I do recall the sushi possibly being a little more flimsy and not tightly rolled but wasn't too terrible. Came here twice, but last time was 9pm New year's eve this week, They have great, fresh food, cool place, busy and hip but not pretentious. Had a great time, but lady bartender was not very happy to be working and not helpful to a customer who wanted a dark beer. Was seated on time for reservation and then waited 10 minutes but still no server greeting. I mentioned this to a server and he ended up taking our table after it seemed noone wanted to serve us. Thomas S. was our server and he was quick, attentive and did his job well. After we ate, I asked Thomas if he wanted to leave since it was New Year's eve and he said no and we didn't feel rushed at all even though, since I was once a server, I know how you want to leave early on NYE. In the end, I told Thomas that the person who was supposed to serve me and wanted to leave instead, lost out because Thomas got a 40% tip on $100 bill for two people for 1 hour. He did a great job and the food was great so the restaurant should be happy for a great server and great food which saved them here. It could've been 5 stars though read more

Such a disappointment after being at the old location in downtown St. Charles. They moved the Budda & the big Dragon over but otherwise lacking the cozy feel of the old location. I had to switch out my chair because the first one swayed when I sat on it. Ask for a paper menu & we're told the only have the QR code - no paper menus are available. Food is WAY OVERPRICED and the flavor of ever dish was BLAND. Sushi was ok at best but could have gotten the same quality at Jewel for half the price. When we got our bill, there were up charges for everything. We were charged 50 cents for sweet and sour sauce for our daughter to dip her kids chicken tenders in. None of the noodle dishes came with any meat. The waitress did not inform us that we would be charged separately for each type of meat so we ordered a combination of beef, chicken and shrimp (thinking we would get the same amount of meat but some variety like a typical combination pan fry type of meal). We were charged for each item separately making a fried rice dish $18. We spent over $200 for the worst meal we've had in a very long time. We won't be returning. read more

Yesterday, Friday the 23rd, my boyfriend and I dined here. After receiving our food, I smelled smoke. I didn't think much of it at first, since I am pregnant and have a heightened sense of smell. However shortly after, my boyfriend, along with other customers started to pick up on the smell as well. We assumed it came from the kitchen, and had made its way to the floor. My boyfriend and I asked for the tab and left fearing for me and my baby's safety. On a weekend- be prepared to wait......and then wait some more I called during the week to make a reservation for Saturday night. I was informed they only take reservations for 6 or more- we were just going out with one other couple. The person I talked to suggested I call about 30 minutes prior to arriving and put our name on the list. I called at 6:30, we were meeting our friends at 7. At 6:30 there was a 2 hour wait! I guess on the up side, they were very accurate with that time frame.. we got seated just about 8:30. Luckily we were able to get a seat in the bar area..which also was very crowded. We all enjoyed our dinners, but one person had the Mongolian stir fry and was not aware there were red hot chili peppers in it~~ took a bite and got pretty hot! I had the Steak Governors stir fry that was excellent. As much as I liked the food, and atmosphere.. I don't think I'll go back unless they start taking reservations.. I don't mind having a drink in the bar and waiting a reasonable amount of time.. 30-45 min. A two hour wait for dinner seating is excessive. read more

A GREAT place and a welcome addition to the fox valley dining scene. Cool interior, with an upscale feel. The music in the background is spot on, loud enough to enjoy, but doesn't interfere with conversation. The food is great. Every sushi item I've tried has been as good or better than any other sushi place in Chicagoland. And the entrees are tremendous as well. I had the Spicy Hong Kong Steak, it was unbelievable. You can tell this place makes the food from scratch, even the Cashew Chicken is ridiculously good and different than anywhere else. We picked one roll (that didn't have mayo or Sriracha sauce on it) as an appetizer and it was good. Not horrible but certainly not good. Food lacks solid Asian flavor and spice. Ordered hot sake and it came out boilin hot. My colleague actually put the bottle of sake in his ice water to get it down to a drinkable temperature. Waiter was disinterested in general. Very trendy decor - reminded me of a nightclub. Lovely evening in STC. We had a reservation for 8pm and showed up at 7:30. Way to early so we informed the hostesses we would be at the bar till 8. Received drinks promptly and hung out to watch a little of the hawks game. After that realized quite a few bar tables opened which are first come first serve if you didn't know. I went up to the hostesses and informed them that we would be fine with grabbing one of those tables. Grabbed one and was promptly served. Food came out quickly and our server Christina was extremely pleasant! Brian the manager table touched with us twice and being in the industry that is a BEAUTIFUL thing to be able to do let alone accomplish! Great place! The people in charge should be very proud! Yum! I visited this restaurant with a large group of friends. We had reservations and were seated promptly, although the place was completely full. The atmosphere really stands out... the lighted sheer drapes covering the ceiling change colors throughout the evening.... very interesting. Most of our group ordered sushi... so we all were able to try various types. It was all delicious and the best was the "st. charles roll", which was the consensus of our entire group. This roll was located on the specials menu. The server even brought an extra roll by accident and told us to go ahead and keep it... ok! We ordered the "jumbo prawns" for an appetizer, and they were really more large shrimp than jumbo anything. BUT, they were tasty with a spicy dipping sauce so we didn't mind. Overall we had a good time and the location is perfect if you want to go out for drinks in the downtown St. Charles area afterwards... walking distance even in the winter! We parked in the parking garage which was 1/2 block away. The bar area is separated from the dining room, and was very crowded. Great ambiance. We will return when we are in the area! read more
