I'm giving this review a 4/5 because the food was fantastic (that's what we're all after with these Yelp reviews) but the service was what lost a star for me. We came in on a Monday night for my friend's birthday (4 people) and it was a ghost town. The sign read "wait to be seated" so we waited and took pictures. After ten minutes we walked up to the bar area and were told with attitude that someone would seat us soon and to wait back in the lobby. A sweet young man came and seated us to an empty dining room which was awesome and quaint. Of course our server (Arlene) was the woman that greeted us with an attitude. I'll give her points for being attentive but at the end of the meal I asked if she could put a candle in a simple dessert but she said they didn't have desserts that particular evening which I thought was a little strange. Then came the bill which we wanted to split 3 ways so we could treat the bday girl. She turned up her nose and said she could only split it 2 ways which was bs (I know this from serving for 10+ years) Usually servers are meant to create a memorable experience... especially when guests had the choice of so many restaurants on their birthday. I went here for happy for my grandfathers birthday and let me just say it was great! It was a bit packed and the only had one server working the bar but he was still super diligent. He was able to get to us pretty quickly and even chatted with us for a bit! The food was fantastic and the happy hour has many options to choose from so it was super good for a great price! He also brought food to out table but he did not bring any forks and extra plate. We've waited for a while but noone was not coming back for forks and extra dish(How can we eat?). I 've walked to bar and ask Hispanic lady for please have extra plate and forks. I've asked her in really polite. Yesterday we came in with a large party, and unfortunately our experience with our server, Celeste, wasn't great. She had her AirPods in, wasn't bringing us water, and it seemed like the other servers were doing a lot of her work. She was on her phone so much that she even forgot to put in one of our food orders. This place has been a staple of my LA dining adventures. Close to home for many years so I popped in regularly since becoming an LA resident. Unfortunately it appears to be on the decline. When you walk in it doesn't have the same energy as it use to, hard to explain but if you know you know. The glaring issue is the bar STINKS. It literally smells like Bourbon Street in the bar area. Not sure if the smell lingers into the dining area but it's unbearable. My group of 5 went in last night and had a few beers and cocktails and the service was fine but we couldn't stay any longer than we did because of the smell.
