So we decided this was our best option after bowling since Lambert's had a 3-hour wait at 1:30 I'd give this place a 3.5 but Yelp won't let me do 1/2 . Hostesses were super pleasant, wait was 30-minutes not horrible. Server was soo pleasant and just on top of things. Let's start with kiddos - don't get the pizza, it's a frozen deep dish...think 6-$5.00 but you are paying $7-$8 for that and fruit or fries / - : Salad bar was lovely, great options throughout. I opted for the shrimp and grits, I was told they were locally caught . So out came my lunch meal with a pound of grits and 4-shrimp . And I wasn't overly impressed with my tiny shrimp. Mind you I'm from the east coast and understand shrimp size varies. Regardless wasn't my best option for the day. Now my hubby did the red drum and that was amazing! read more

We went out to eat at around 5 on a football sunday. We were surprised it was so busy! You walk through the entrance and there is a really nice little store. I didn't get a chance to look around but it would be awesome if you had to wait for your table. we were seated in the bar which was fine with us. We were introduced to our server who said she'd be right back. We ordered drinks-it was happy hour so they were $3. The menu is pretty good-steaks, seafood and some sandwiches. They also had salads and soups. After a few minutes someone else came up to see if we wanted to order. What happened to the first person? Anyway she was actually the bartender as well. The restaurant has a very nice salad bar that is also very popular I ordered all you can eat for $10 and the shrimp nachos. My husband ordered the snapper that came with a one time salad bar visit, 2 hush puppies and veggies. The restaurant has a very cozy vibe with wood paneling, wood chairs and wood tables. They still had their Christmas lights up so it really added to the atmosphere. The plate came for the salad bar which had all the usuals but with pickled onions, fruit and a lovely seafood salad. Also my favorite sweet gherkins. Very fresh. Nothing was wilted or had been out too long. Our entrees came and I was very impressed with mine. The deep fried naan chips, mornay sauce, green onions and grilled shrimp was amazing. It was actually an appetizer and could serve 4 easily. My husband also loved his snapper. Lightly blackened and cooked to perfection! The veggies needed work however. They were very overcooked and just did not look very tasty. They weren't even touched. I liked how the plates were consistently taken away. Very professional. We also decided to share a dessert. Not that I needed it. We decided on bread pudding. Ohhhh the star! Covered with caramel and pecans it was a step into heaven. It was a very good visit but I think they could have let us know about the server change as it was a bit awkward. Also, although I get it's very hard, work on those veggies! Nothing worse than mushy, unappetizing vegetables. All in all we would go back and try a few other things on the menu. read more

I have to tell you , I'm an old fan of Wolf Bay. I came as a little girl back when the old building was on Wolf Bay before it burned. We have always loved GS, so my husband and I decided to retire down here. And this restaurant by far was one of the best meals we've had since we moved. Everything was delicious from the appetizers to the salad bar to the amazing entrées. My husband and I went with my youngest daughter and her husband, and every meal was absolutely delicious, the waitress was accommodating and very very kind the little gift shop was great. The whole look of the restaurant was just as pleasant as it could be. We thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed our meal and honestly I can't wait for the leftovers tonight. We have eaten here twice in the past 3 days.. let me start by saying what an amazing staff they have!! Very friendly and attentive. Brianna waited on us both times. We love sitting at the bar to eat. We love to ask for recommendations on the food and all have been spot on! Started with an appetizer, the Cha Cha Crab Dip with Fried Pita Corners.. Yummy! Dinner .. my husband had a whole Flounder and it was prepared nicely. I had the Seafood AuGratin which was delicious. The second time we stopped was for appetizers. We had the bacon wrapped Jalapeños and the Seafood Nachos.. WOW Both were delicious. The happy hour is a must!! We are wine drinkers and well $3 was worth it. On a trip to Gulf shores we stopped here with our five kids. Although I wish the salad bar had been a little more impressive (only 3 kinds of dressings) The rest of the food was pretty good. Everyone liked the crab stuffed mushrooms. Husband had the grouper and I had the shrimp po boy. In my opinion the real star was the seafood au gratin diff then anything I have had what a cool idea. read more

The salad bar was the only good thing about the dinner. My husband ordered the filet medium, it was rare. Besides being undercooked it was a terrible cut of meat. He didn't bother sending it back. I ordered the grilled gulf shrimp with sweet bourbon glaze. The glaze had something spicy in it, so I wasn't able to eat it, but luckily my husband was able to eat it. The burgers were very good. I ordered the one with Brie cheese and bacon and husband ordered the wolf bay burger. My husband's burger was cooked well done instead of medium rare by accident and they made him another one. The onion rings didn't seem freshly made in house- I didn't ask if they were, but they seemed like they are from frozen since the batter was somewhat soft. The fries they sent out by accident with the remade burger were fresh and hot & good. I would get fries next time even though I prefer onion rings. The drinks were good but Tito's was spendy. We went there for fish tacos on a recommendation, but they only serve them for lunch! :( WE Kept forgetting to ask how much the (basic looking) salad bar would cost to add on, and couldn't find mention of it in the menu other than being crossed off the menu. Servers should probably tell guests up front how much salad bar costs in case they are interested. read more

I typically order a cup of gumbo at any restaurant I go to, to find the one. This is NOT the one. Period. The gumbo was TRASH. Go to publix and buy yourself a canned progresso beef and vegetable soup instead. Standard bar chicken wings. Basic shrimp tacos with not enough shrimp and way too much cream and cheese. Long wait for mid-range quality food at expensive prices. We went on a Saturday afternoon. Got there at 4:25 and waited 47 minutes for a table. The atmosphere is loud and cramped. The restaurant would look fine if it werent for the strage and tacky inflatable pool tous all over the salad bar. It took over 35 minutes after we ordered for our food. Every entre' is either $20 or $30. The food was okay, but certainly doesn't match the price point. Salad bar was additional $4 with a meal and the bowl they give you is pretty small. Also, if you don't pay in cash they add 3.5% on top of your bill. It's not a cash discount, it is a penalty for paying with a credit card. They have a tacky sign up front that says "cash is king" urging you to pay cash. I would not advise any purchases at the gift shop either, as most things are available elsewhere at a fraction of the price. read more

My wife I had have been looking forward to dinning at Wolf Bay in Foley for a while and this evening we make the trip. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. We didn't have to wait very long before we were seated which was surprising given that they were busy on this Saturday evening. Our waitress was pretty quick to take our orders and she was very friendly and it was obvious that she knew the restaurant's menu very well. My wife ordered the "build-your-own" with oysters and shrimp (fried) with smoked Gouda cheese grits and the salad bar (one trip only) and I ordered the Wolf Bay Seafood Platter with rice and salad bar and lobster bisque (pictured below). We were very excited to get started. The lobster bisque came out first after we went to the salad bar ( which was very good with fresh vegetables and ingredients) and the bisque was outstanding ( came out warm and full of flavor). When our main dishes came out, it looked fantastic but it didn't taste fantastic. The shrimp and oysters were heavy breaded and fried too long causing the shrimps and oysters to be tough and chewy and lacking flavor. For the price of my main course ($40), I really was expecting equal quality. To be fair, the service, atmosphere, and timeliness were fantastic. We enjoyed the salad bar and lobster bisque. Unfortunately, the price of the main courses were overpriced for food that was not very good. I have never given a 3 rating to any restaurant until this evening but I believe in being honest and fair. Hopefully this was just a bad night in the kitchen and not their normal quality of food. read more

We've missed several years coming to Wolf Bay. We have been eating at this restaurant for 40 years. The menu is limited and pricey. On top of everything check your bill carefully. We were charged for a party of 8 of more 38% tip. I think 38% is too high, happy to leave a reasonable 20% as suggested on the ticket. Our waitress corrected it when pointed out, but wonder how many check that closely. read more

Came to the restaurant on Sunday 7/7. We entered through the bar entrance. Met by someone from the bar, was asked "have you been here before?" My son in law replied, "I haven't, but she has. (Indicating me). Bartender replied to him, "she knows what to do". Which was okay I guess. I knew we needed to go to the front hostess stand. At the hostess stand we encountered a gal who never acknowledged our presence. I'm not sure if she was an employee, but she was on the backside of the hostess stand. We waited. And waited. Finally another gal came, she was pleasant and seated us. The servers were phenomenal and the food was excellent as usual. My concern is this. We live in Foley and we love Wolf Bay Restaurant but first impressions mean a lot! We had out of town guests and we simply wanted to share a great dining experience only to be met by some individuals who were maybe having a bad day or whatever. While evacuated from Hurricane Ida, we decided to give this restaurant a shot, because there were a lot of cars in the parking lot, and that's usually the first sign that there's good stuff inside. When you walk in, there's a cute little store with all kinds of merchandise- clothing, decor, jewelry, gizmos and gadgets...wasn't expecting that, but as there was a long line of people waiting for a table, it was nice to browse through all the items instead of just lining up on a bench and staring at people while they eat, lol. I wound up finding some treasures in the store that I never knew I needed, but I really really did ;-) Now....on to the food!!! Firstly, anyplace with a salad bar still in operation is rare. Like really rare. Like pterodactyl rare. And despite my initial reluctance to it (because pandemic, y'all), I caved in because I was HUNGRY, and it was So.Worth.It. Yum. If you're worried about gettin the 'rona from a salad bar, order the Bloody Mary, because alcohol kills germs- everyone knows this. Safety First!!! I did- and I am 'rona free!! This is one of my wife and I favorite places to eat. She loves the stuffed shrimp. Three are more than plenty since they have so much shrimp and stuffing. I always get some type of blackened fish and it has never been bad. All the recipes are homemade even down to the salad dressing. They have one of the best salad bars I have ever been to. I often have a hard time getting enough sale into my bowl. Never had a bad meal here and can't wait for the location on the bayou to open back up, but until then, this location is also awesome and the decor just adds to the atmosphere.
