I just needed something quick to eat before an appointment and read about the aioli sandwich here. Inside a Gelson's, I showed up exactly at noon and service was fine. It's the FOOD that stands out. The salad was a simple Caesars Salad but they mad it so there was cheese in every bite and the croutons were delicious and crispy. Now the SANDWICH. I was in love after the first bite. The bread was so light and lightly crispy. And the chicken cooked perfectly with enough aioli just to add the perfect flavor. I am so glad I found this place. Not sure if I'll try the pizza only because I will be back for another sandwich next time I'm in the area. And the price is right now that restaurants cost so much these days. Decent amount of tables for a grocery store. Definitely worth a shot for anyone passing through the Tarzana area. I'd even exit to stop here on my long commutes in and out of LA. read more

One of my favorite spots to get pizza! The pizza is delicious, quick and the service is wonderful! There's ample seating inside and out to eat there which is quite rare for a grocery store! The dining area is super comfortable! At under 20 dollars the price is very reasonable for a large pizza! You can call ahead or order there. Sometimes during peak hours it is wise to order ahead. The Mushroom Pizza is out-of-this world good. The ingredients are all great, and the artisan-style preparation before it goes into the oven, from the flattening of the pizza dough ball to dusting it with flour, makes it all better. Flabbergasted at their business practices. I have found their food great in the past, but today, 4/25/22, the service was an outrage. I ordered a breakfast bagel sandwich and tea, and the woman behind the counter (It says Lupe on the receipt.) asked me what kind of bagel I wanted for my sandwich. I asked her which I had to choose from, and she showed me the options, so I picked one. I then requested that my tea be a size large. When she rang me up, the price was quite a few dollars more than I anticipated (for a $5.75 sandwich and $2.65 tea), and I commented that it was not what I expected based on the prices on their menu. The woman then told me that I had picked a special bagel, which was 0.75 cents extra. That did not seem to account for the price difference, but she was firm about it, and she did not check to see what she had totaled up. I sensed an inappropriate attitude, given that her actions had led to the misunderstanding. I told her that she should inform people of the extra charge when she offers them the range of bagels. Furthermore, I had not seen this extra charge stated on the menu. She had asked me what my choice of bagel was as if it came with the sandwich. She responded that I should have known, "It's on the menu," she said, motioning to the small sign with tiny type, behind her on the wall. The type below the description was too small to read, and my eyesight is pretty great. The sandwich was made, and I was eager to be on my way, so I said fine and paid the $12.29 for the sandwich and large tea. However, when I looked at my receipt, I saw that she had charged me for two teas: one medium and one large. Again, I confronted her about the bill. Look, I said, you charged me for two teas, and I only ordered and received one. She said, yes, because you ordered one and I entered it, and then you changed your mind and wanted a large. (Actually, she had never asked me what size I wanted to begin with, and I asked for a large as she had reached for the cups.) She said this as if I still had to pay for the medium. Okay, I said, but I would like a refund for the medium tea that I did not order and did not receive. Further, I said, you charged me $1.00 for the special bagel when you just told me it was 0.75 cents extra. Please refund the 0.25 cents for that as well. She started to process the refund and then told me, "The special bagel is actually $1.00 extra, not 0.75 cents extra, I forgot." Wow, I said. The prices here are pretty confusing. She only refunded me the $2.25 for the medium tea. This was not a large bill, but how the restaurant handled it speaks volumes about how little they care about their customers. I left thinking about how, with these practices, they must really be taking advantage of the large population of retired people who frequent this eatery inside of the Gelsons grocery store. It's a shame. Their business practices are an outrage. I will not be going back, and I will ensure that word gets around to my medical colleagues in the neighboring medical offices. 10am on a Sunday.. I ordered a chicken sandwich for a hike, I said two things; NO Onions and Chipotle on the side please. Guy gives me the food with a ceaser salad (had no idea) and I asked him if the dressing was the chipotle dressing.. he dismisses me and tells me to go to the checkout line in the grocery store. Over the past years I did notice a small change in the style of bread, it has become more easier and comfortable to chew ( I struggle with tmj). Encino is MUCH further from me, but I am willing to take that drive because I love the CA sandwich so much! I also loooove the ceasar salad that comes on the side as well. With good portions, I think the sandwiches are very affordable! It comes little short of $10. Tip: If you're here to shop, I suggest you order your food first then do your shopping. Though I shop at Gelson's at least a few times a week and always walk by the gas-fired brick oven, I never seem to remember it is there when I am looking to order a take-out pizza. In the mood for a pizza, I somehow managed to remember Wolfgang Puck Express last night. I ordered the 16" margherita. The crust was a neapolitan-esque, thin, chewy, with a bubbly outer crust. The crust was much chewier than it was crispy. The was sauce was hardly detectable, much like a Brazilian pizza, so I cannot really comment on it. The cheese was excellent. Unlike most other take-out pizza places, WP uses whole milk mozzarella instead of part-skim. This is the difference between flavorful cheese and bland cheese. My only complaint with the cheese is they actually put too much on it. The layer of cheese was 2-3 times the thickness of the crust. There was more cheese on it than in a stuffed pizza from Giordano's. I am not sure I have ever complained about a pizza having too much cheese, but this was a bit overwhelming. I am not sure if the guy who prepared it put on more than he was supposed to or if that was normal, but I have a feeling it is the former. The pizza was topped with sliced tomatoes and basil. All-in-all, it was very good, flavorful pizza, especially for take-out. I will definitely go back. read more

What a disappoint! I've had the aioli chicken sandwich for years. Every time I go it has not been an improvement. I go with good hopes that things might have changed...but no! The bread is not the same that was thin and toasty. The salad wasn't made with the freshest lettuce, Caser dressing has changed and even down to the croutons are not the homemade as they use to be. Quality has really dropped for Wolfgang puck standards and cost. Not recommending this until they make some upgrade enhancements. read more

Used to literally have DREAMS of their pesto chicken salad sandwich. It was always on the pricey side (about $9), but I was willing to fork over the money because of my mild obsession with it. My review is really only about a recent change in product quality here. When I used to buy the sandwich, it came with deliciously seasoned chopped chicken pieces mixed with a fabulous pesto sauce or dressing, and the usual lettuce and tomato. Even though the sandwich was expensive, it was all about the details and flavor. However, when I picked one up the other day, the chicken had been switched to what literally looked like standard sliced lunch meat. And none of the great pesto/mayo sauce - only a thin smear of regular pesto on the top and bottom of the bread (which was also soggy, by the way). I was saddened that a favorite indulgence of mine had been demoted to a basic, boring sandwich. Maybe they're cutting back on costs, or trying a new recipe, but now they have definitely lost some quality - I can't vouch for other items on the menu, but now I'm not even interested in trying anything else. read more
