But when the order came out wrong and I pointed it out, his attitude completely changed -- he got visibly annoyed, started talking to another employee, and gestured toward me. He handed me a corrected order, but it was wrong again. At that point I gave up and just left, because he seemed like he was about to lose his temper if I came back up to the counter a second time. We've always enjoyed Wonder Bagels and their food when ordering in person -- it's consistently delicious. However, this was our first time ordering pickup, and our first experience at this particular Wonder Bagels location. Unfortunately, it was a total disappointment. When we picked up our order, everything was thrown together in one large plastic shopping bag -- not even a Wonder Bagels bag -- with items scattered and unorganized. Our half dozen bagels weren't packaged separately, and the sandwiches weren't labeled, so we couldn't tell which was which. None of our requested condiments were included. When it came time to eat, we were set for more disappointment: The "Fluffy" 3-egg omelette was overcooked and missing toast. The home fries were not as pictured -- they were uneven chunks of potato, some undercooked. The "Basic Becky" was dry and missing avocado. The Reuben sandwich was dry and missing both sauerkraut and Russian dressing. (How does one even mess up a Reuben?) You might ask why we didn't take it back -- but it was a busy Sunday morning in JC Heights, and just finding parking was a hassle. Can't complain. Ordered a whole wheat everything bagel toasted with butter and as good luck would have it, there was a parking space outside that provided me that opportunity. I had a call so was juggling 2 conversations while trying not to be too obnoxious in the store. They were quick but I wish there was salt pieces in the everything - not sure if they use it in their everything bagels...maybe some of their customers need to have reduced salt. I honestly love the quality of their bagels when they're right. However, they will get your order wrong 95% of the time. I've ordered on Uber eats about 6 times and every single time it has been wrong. I definitely will not be ordering from here again. Today I even called to ensure that they have my order correctly for Uber to pick up. Tell me how it's still wrong? I don't understand who they have working there, but they clearly do not read the directions clearly. Edit: yes, even in person they will get your order wrong. I called once about an issue with the order and I was told if I ordered it in person they would be sure there was no errors. Needless to say, there was still errors the next time I went in person. This is our local bagel spot, we usually get four at a time, because we found that they only keep well at room temperature outside for one day. Anything past the next day makes it really hard, although that's not unique to Wonder Bagels' bagels. We usually get the whole wheat everything and egg everything, and they're not the best bagels we've had but they hit the spot. $1.50/bagel. So the rating is more so for how bad service has gotten. The bagels are STILL amazing and my favorite location for Wonder Bagels (flavor and texture is levels above other locations for some reason). Highly recommend egg everything orr the Jalapeño bagel. That being said, I've had too many times in the past year where the bagel isn't toasted properly or they put the wrong cream cheese/shmear on it orr I get the right spread but somehow totally wrong bagel orr barely any spread or the bagel has been mushed to all hell. Here 3x's probably in May 2023. The counter workers (owners?) were ALWAYS super nice & I always received my lunches pretty fast. The bagels are good; I wouldn't depict them as fantastic, though. The best sandwich I had was the chicken salad. Again though it was the bed of the three I can't say it was extraordinarily good. The first toasted everything bagel sandwich I had which was the scallion cream cheese was definitely disappointing as it was pretty flavorless. I can't remember what the second toasted everything bagel sandwich I got (obviously I prefer everything bagels lol). I just recall I was a little more impressed with it than my first one. Thought I really prefer eating organic stuff which is better not just for human health but the environment cause I love bagels and as I already mentioned the counter people were very kind (always) I feel this shop should get if nothing else 3 stars. read more

WTH is this? I complained and a worker said they "weigh" the cream cheese before they send it out. I ordered 1 lb and received two-thirds of half a pound. And the other 1/2 lb is completely missing. One doesn't have to "weigh" this to know there's something wrong. And it's not that complicated to place 3 bagels and 1 pound of cream cheese in a bag. I called and someone named Steve and supposedly the owner. Some quality control. Anyone who knows me knows I cherish my carbs. If it's gonna raise my blood sugar, it better be worth every bite. Wonder Bagels is on the Cherish List. I grew up in deep old Brooklyn. Any bagel spot, just like any pizza spot, that wasn't legit quickly shut down. If you didn't smell the bagels when you opened the door, git up outta there. If they don't have a variety of bagels you can buy, run. This place is legit. Good variety of flavored bagels, gets artsy/trendy sometimes with French toast bagels or rainbow bagels, but the classics still remain, and there's no half-ass sprinkle of garlic or onion, or rye seeds or size of these bagels. Those bagels all sit up on the bagel wall like cute kittens waiting to be adopted. The sandwiches are kick ass, the staff is always cooking and shouting at each other, the orange juice is fresh AF, the whitefish salad creamy, and there's no lil bit when it comes to the lox. Even the friggin vegan cream cheese is on point. Staff is hella friendly and wait on you til you decided which flavor bagel you wanna try. I usually get a lot of bagels, take em home, slice and freeze em, and when I get em out the freezer or the fridge, they toast up like I just bought em. Wonder Bagel doesn't usually offer delivery but they are right now which is great. I normally will visit the location downtown, but only their spot up in the heights is delivering. Despite it being a little further away, delivery was very speedy and at my doorstep in around 45 minutes. Hubs and I shared a few things. I had a plain bagel with scallion cream cheese the cream cheese was such a highlight. So many scallions and so flavorful. Unfortunately the bagel was a bit of a miss -- it was hard and small -- different from the normal super fluffy bagels that Wonder Bagels are known for. We also ordered a taylor ham, egg and cheese with a hashbrown on an everything. This was super good and there was so much taylor ham which I'm all about. This bagel was also much softer and fluffier. Right now prices are higher than normal, and this sandwich was ten dollars. I don't mind and I'm happy to support a small business in any way I can. But, just something worth noting. Wonder Bagels is a treat. Next time I'll probably just opt to pick up at the physical location, since nothing can beat a fresh and hot bagel. read more

I never leave reviews, but I felt this was important. An extremely rude man (who I assume was the owner or manager) was furiously berating the employees the whole time I was there. It was extremely awkward for everyone in the store as the kitchen area is open for everyone to see. In addition, he was rude to me while I was paying due to Apple Pay not working right away. Once again, very awkward and unprofessional. Every other employee there has always been super kind and friendly but whoever the guy in charge today has ruined this place for me. TREAT YOUR STAFF BETTER!!! The bagels are okay and the fresh orange juice was my favorite part of this place but that alone is not enough for me to support such an unprofessional and rude manager/owner. This is deep into JC so a little tough to get to from Hoboken. First off, its tough to get there for ANYONE that is driving. There is zero parking over here so you have to double park to get your bagel. The staff is running around like maniacs because its so busy. They do a good job of getting the food out quick. I went with the plain bagel with strawberry cc and a sesame with egg/cheese. The bagels aren't my favorite. They have a weird outer texture and the flavor isn't great. With bagels on the first bite you just know it will be good. This one missed. Not worth the trip. Too many good bagel shops in Hoboken to make the trek. read more

I wonder when someone is going to teach their staff customer service. I wonder when they're going to get my order right. I wonder when the staff is going to stop bantering and chatting huddled in groups not working ignoring the line and customers waiting right in front of them. I wonder when they're going to learn how to multitask. I wonder if they're ever going to have the employees assigned to stations. (Instead of standing at an empty counter for 5 minutes while 6 different employees see me and say nothing) I wonder how this place is even still in business. The customer service is non existent from every staff member, they also move like snails in molasses. If I call in an order in advance it's still not ready or is prepared wrong. This place makes me so infuriated just going inside every time. They have good bagels but every other aspect of this business is trash. Basically if you order you'll get the opposite of what you asked for or missing ingredients that you paid for. Essentially now I just go here to pick up plain bagels because I would rather make it myself than deal with whatever wild card they give me. The owner seriously needs to clear house. This review comes after trying to give this place a shot at least 5 times, both by ordering and by going in. My advice? Don't bother with this place. It's guaranteed that they will make you wait for an hour for something that is either wrong or unbelievably unsatisfying. This morning I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese via uber eats. Nothing special. A bagel restaurant can't mess that up, right? WRONG. Please see the image below. I ended up with a cold bagel that had less than a quarter of an egg, two chunks of undercooked sausage and a small piece of unmelted cheese, which signals that the food was cold before they even put the sandwich together. Wonder Bagel on Central Ave is an awesome neighborhood place. Their staff are always trying to make connections with the locals. Bagels are consistently fresh and tasty. A bit bigger than I like, but light and airy. Great tofu cream cheese options if you're veg or vegan. Breakfast sandwiches are freshly cooked on the grill. I just tried their ice coffee with coffee cubes and it was delicious. This place is even better when Steve Fulop is not walking around it acting like he owns it. read more

It's a wonder that people say Wonder Bagels is the best in Jersey City. In full sincerity, I wanted to love these guys. I've ordered from them now 3, maybe 4 times, each recurring time hoping the previous was a fluke. But if good bagels exist in Jersey City (still not convince), they're not here. Let's talk about why. First, the texture of the bagels is off. Like really off. It's almost as if I'm eating white bread that has a shiny discoloration on the outside. This is not a bagel, it's just shiny bread. Don't get me wrong, their 'bagels' are fresh! However, they lack the warmth, depth, and chewiness that a good bagel has. This also has, from our experience, almost no identifiable crust. This means that it lacks that bite a good bagel should have. Second, the taste is off. As mentioned previously, this looks like white bread... and the taste isn't far off. Even when I order my typical everything bagel, sometimes the seasoning on top is just "somethings" - it generally feels like the seasonings fell off due to no wash on top or just a bad 'everything' mix. Third con - hygiene/delivery. I've received a hair inside of my bagel twice now. Also, if I order a hashbrown it's loosely wrapped in paper and usually arrives cold... which is counter to what almost anywhere else will do. It's also commonly discussed that they do not wear masks while preparing your food during this pandemic. This is insane and why we'll stop ordering from them completely. It's not all cons: I genuinely enjoy eggs and Taylor ham within the bagel. These seem to be well done and properly seasoned. It's not microwaved eggs, so they've got that going for them as well. Also, their pricing is decent. However, if there are good bagels in Jersey City, I have yet to find them since moving in from NYC. This city is ripe for disruption if even what I had previously considered a mediocre bagel spot in Manhattan or Brooklyn decided to expand to Jersey City. For now, I'll be driving to Clifton or further for good bagels where I know staff wears their masks, the bagels are bagels and not shiny bread, and the taste matches that of what a good bagel should taste like. read more
