East Rock Market is an enclosed public market and food hall that opened in New Haven, Connecticut…read morein October 2021. It was founded by business partners Rishi Narang and John Ginnetti. Narang is a developer while Ginnetti is a restauranteur that also owns the cocktail bar 116 Crown as well as the sandwich shop Meat & Co. The old industrial building which now houses the market was the WWI-era Marlin Arms factory. Now known as East Rock Center, Narang's family has owned the building for over three decades. He brought in a few businesses over the years to fill the space, including East Rock Brewing Company, mActivity Fitness Center, and Rebel Hair Salon. Unfortunately, Narang could not find the right tenant for the full-service restaurant he envisioned. He then teamed up with Ginnetti to open New Haven's first food hall: a collaboration between local chefs and entrepreneurs. As of this writing, the food hall's current tenants are Meat & Co., Ground Up Coffee, Ozzy's Apizza, Rockfish Maki Bar, Don Rene Taqueria, and Rick's Bar. My older son and I recently stopped at East Rock Market for lunch. I had been meaning to stop by for some time. East Rock Market is a lot smaller than other food halls that I've been to in the past, but all of the tenants here are fantastic. There are so many great options for consumers: New Haven-style pizza, tacos, sushi, gourmet sandwiches, specialty coffee, hand-rolled bagels, and craft cocktails. There's also plenty of seating (both inside and outside). You can even order food to go and take it with you to East Rock Brewing, which is conveniently located next door. My son and I loved all of the options, but we decided to order a couple of delicious pies from Ozzy's Apizza. They were excellent! Nice time we stop in, we're interested in trying out some tacos from Don Rene Taqueria. Regardless of what you're looking for, East Rock Market is sure to have you covered!

On our last visit we decided to try Nami Yum Yum. We ordered a veggie sushi sandwich ($14) for me, which featured a few veggies with rice wrapped up in soy paper; New York Strip ($25) for him, which was a bowl with steak, roasted potatoes and other things; Sweet Plantains ($6) for the table, with cream and cotija. We both got a Jarritos each. Service was timely. Everything was creative. I never had a sushi sandwich. It tasted pretty good too. I wasn't really feeling well and couldn't enjoy it as much as I intended to, but it was nevertheless yummy and unique. My sandwich came with a side of puffed up chips (I actually don't know what they are called). The plantains were also very good. I am glad we ordered them as a side because it was a good side to eat with our meals. Overall no complaints, I would eat there again.

There were only 5 different food stalls plus the ice cream stall in the very front, however only 3 of the food stalls were open at 7pm on a Saturday. This is a small town, so I get it, but I was thoroughly surprised at this because of how crowded the entire town had been all weekend (it was truly the perfect weather to be out here!). The taco food stall had some Mac and cheese that I really wanted, but he was so overwhelmed with making a large order with only one person helping him that he literally told me to come back in 30 minutes to place my order. I ended up ordering the Pimento Grilled Cheese Sandwich from the burger place, where the guy (working solo) told me it would take about 30 minutes before it would be ready. We were in no rush, and it was DEFINITELY worth the wait!! The ooey gooey cheese paired with perfectly browned Texas toast satisfied my hunger after a long day of hiking and window shopping. My husband ordered the Paneer Kati Roll + Mango Lassi from the Indian food stall. He liked the roll, however we both decided that the lassi was average at best. Additionally, they served it with ice which was a huge disappointment (**being that my husband is from India, we have standards regarding Indian food). I'm giving 4 stars because the overall atmosphere of this food hall was not the best... Definitely NOT enough seating... They didn't seem to have anyone on staff taking care of the place, so the two tables that were empty when we arrived were extremely dirty (we cleaned one ourselves). They also didn't have napkins readily available and only 2 individual restrooms, despite having a bar in the back. Also, it was SO DARK inside... Scarce lighting which was not very pleasant or welcoming, especially since the sun was shining brightly outside. There is an outdoor patio, which is great, however because the weather was nice it was completely full. Final thoughts: this is a great place to grab lunch or dinner with a group of friends, especially if no one can agree on where to go. There's a variety of options and something for everyone to enjoy!

Nothing beats a little retail therapy! I don't come here as often as I used to, but somehow, every visit still feels special. This afternoon, I stopped by a few premium brand stores, and every shopping experience was wonderful. On top of that, I also ended up getting quite a few steps in. By the time I got back to my car, I realized how much better I felt. Sometimes, a little shopping, a lot of walking, and a familiar place are all you need to reset.

The Meriden Mall is a solid mall. It's not the biggest or fanciest mall, but it's nice…read more A number of retailers here have closed such as the Best Buy, Sears and Macy's. However, they still have a couple of anchors left including Dick's Sporting Goods and Boscov's. Other large locations include the TJ Maxx and the Middlesex County Library. They're opening a Yale Health Clinic here soon, too. Other smaller stores of interest to me were Champ's Sports, FootLocker and Ramani's Clothier. There are some options in the food court, but not a ton. Only two places, Charley's Steaks and Tokyo Express were open when I visited. There's a Ruby Tuesday's and Cajun Restaurant near here, too. The mall is clean, which is nice. Easy to navigate, too. Altogether, Meriden Mall isn't the best mall, but it's nice and has some good stores.

You can see many additional empty stores as you walk around on the inside. On the plus side, it's very clean inside, and the stores that are here are still nice and varied. It's a pleasant place to shop if they have what you're seeking (which, fortunately for me, they did). The outside parking area is huge, and the outside of the access road tends to have new big box stores and hotels. As empty as it is, I've seen worse, and I've also seen other malls and shopping centers bounce back from worse, so perhaps there's still hope here.

There are two levels and parking was plentiful. The anchor stores are Macy's, JCPenney, Barnes and Noble, to name a few. They have plenty of restaurants and fast food in the food court. There's a carousel which reminded me of Warwick Mall in RI; however it was $5 per ride which is pretty pricey. My toddlers loved the play area; for some reason, that area was super hot when we went. The mall also reminded me of Aventura mall in Florida. I've never seen a tattoo shop in a mall but they have that. They also have a dentist office, hair salon, nail salon, spa, and eyebrow salon. A hotel is nearby. I loved that they had a dollar store in there too. You can pretty much spend a couple of hours there and it has most of your lifestyle needs. The perfect place to walk around in when it's too hot , too cold, raining, and/or snowing out. The place wasn't too crazy packed either, so it was an enjoyable experience.
