We came to town with a bachelor party of 12 boys all wearing the most embarrassing and inappropriate t-shirts. Followed by a group of my fiancés bachelorettes (9 girls) severely overdressed and unprepared for such a nice and put together establishment. Kelly the owner and her partner Brian were so incredibly warm and welcoming. They made us feel special and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. I truly appreciate not only how great the food and atmosphere was but owners that were so sweet and hospitable. I grew up on new york and New Jersey pizza - a slice of "plain" pie. California pizza generally, to be kind, sucks in comparison- a big wad of doughy gooey trash. But not here! This is the best pizza in California! And today, I had a slice of Ray's in New York. Was the crust better (yes, crisp the way I like it). But, to be honest, Wonderland's pizza is better - better ingredients, better flavor, fermented organic crust. And crust crispiness? Look, they are about 80% of the way there. And that's 80% better than every other slice I've had in California. But, and I'm a little shocked to be admitting this. After I finished off Ray's slice. I didn't want another one. I wanted a slice of Wonderland pizza next! And I will, next week, when I get back home to California. I've always told my friends in California that nobody in our fine state knows how to make Pizza or bagels. And that is still true for bagels. But Pizza? Wonderland, you got me. Three weeks in and Wonderland Pizzeria is already doing more right than wrong, which is more than I can say for most of my life decisions. Tucked into the Russian River's favorite funky little town, the menu leans into local pride with seven pizzas named after area legends, plus salads, fries, wings, beer, and wine -- everything a river town civilization needs to thrive. The owner is apparently an audiophile (the good kind, not the kind who won't stop talking about their turntable), because the 70s playlist was chef's kiss and live music lands on weekends. The outdoor space is genuinely impressive -- umbrellas, a ping pong table, a fire pit -- clearly someone wrote some large checks and had big feelings about al fresco dining. For Monte Rio, it's practically a resort. The Caesar salad was excellent. We skipped the fries, but our neighbors declared them the best they'd ever had -- a bold claim I'm choosing to believe. A guy nearby described the wings as "fire," and I'm holding that in my heart for next time. Now. The pepperoni pizza. It looked like someone accidentally dumped the pepperoni bucket and just... went with it. Presentation: chaotic. Crust: outstanding. Taste: genuinely excellent. What a fantastic time and yummy food!! The owners Brian and Kelly are soo welcoming and thoughtful. Great to see that they have some good local chardonnay on the menu as well as many beers! We had a group meet up around the fire pit and when it started to get chilly Brain came out and asked us if we wanted it lit! (Yes, please) Blankets are given out if you're cold and washed regularly.. so that's great and a bonus! There are guitars and banjos on the wall, feel free to pick one up and play (that was fun) The cute garden is a nice touch for fresh basil and tomatoes, so yummy and now they are putting in a stage for live music! OK, there's not enough space for me to talk about this place. It's absolutely amazing. You come thinking you're gonna get any old pizza but that's definitely not the case unforgettable pizza. The crust is good or should I say great to the last bite? It's more of an emotional experience eating their pizza. It's that delicious. New pizza joint in downtown Monte Rio. Opened on 5/22. Not sure what the building was in previous incarnations, but the new interior is wood plank with open beams with simple metal chairs and tables. Comfortable and welcoming. Open kitchen to the front dining area. Inside Seating in the front and rear of the building with outdoor seating behind the side parking with Adirondack chairs and fire pits. The entrance is thru a giant Greek letter pi... Thechallway to the rear of the building has historical pictures on one side and local art on the other. Limited menu at this time. Working the kinks out I guess. Another quirk is that, they currently do not take take-out orders over the phone. We ordered the Baxman to go. Did not ask who or what the name comes from. A question for another visit. Busy night, waited 55mins for the pie, but worth the wait. Very tasty. Decent crust l, great sauce and ample toppings. Staff was busy, but friendly and attentive. After two visits, I can already tell Wonderland is going to become the place our family ends up on Friday night without even discussing it. Everyone in town is raving about it, and for good reason. I've tried pizza all over Sonoma County and this is my new favorite (move over, Acre). The perfect crust, the freshest ingredients, the balanced sauce. I'm very picky about pizza and this place nails it on every level. The wings, fries, and Caesar all hold their own too, which is rare; usually one or two things on a pizzeria menu are afterthoughts, but everything here gets the same care. The beer list is excellent, with a great rotation of Russian River and other local brews on tap. The staff actually pay attention to you, and the space itself, both inside and out back, is beautiful. The backyard especially feels like somewhere you want to hang out and listen to the live music. What really sets it apart though is the people running it. They're locals, they're warm, and you can feel that they're building something for the community, not just a business. Monte Rio is lucky to have them. We recently went here at the end of our week long stay in Monte Rio the other day. Pretty nice place. We got 2 cheese pizzas, but also tried a Farmers Pizza (which is the vegan one). And while there are things I like about it that I think could work, I do have a few critiques. First, their pizza crust has thicker and crispier edges, but fairly thin and floppy in the middle. And that's not bad, it's just a type of crust. But also, the cheese mixture they use on the vegan one feels unnaturally smooth and thin, like some kind of vegan cheese slices made to emulate processed American cheese or something. And with the crust so thin in the middle, it feels overpoweringly rich and can drip off. There are vegetables on it, which do add some texture, and it worked better if I folded the middle part of the slice to the corner, because then you get some crunch from the crust on that first bite. And it's good to have options. But to me, this seems more different from the regular cheese pizza than it needs to be. My suggestion would be to instead use less or none of whatever that mixture is, and replace it with some kind of ricotta or feta alternative, or tofu as a substitute for fresh mozzarella, or a combination of those. I like the idea though! read more

Stopped by on day two after anticipating the grand opening for months. Kept it simple by ordering a pepperoni pizza to see how it was. The pie was super fresh and the crust was amazing!
