Best is the Korean sauces that just make it worth visiting and experiencing. Only reason for 4 and not 5 star is price which for Korean BBQ is very high since this is not all you can eat place. Finally getting to review Woodam! I visited them when they first opened months ago, and I must say the menu looks different than when they first started -- a lot more complete! The wife and I went on a Monday evening at around 6p, and the restaurant had a decent amount of full tables, considering the time -- at least 15-20 people. The space is beautifully modern with (I believe) a second floor that I have yet to visit, and K-Pop playing in the background. Towards the back there is bar seating, though (since the place lacks a liquor license), they only serve wine by the bottle. There is a store next door you can purchase wine from, but Woodam does have a small selection of bottles readily available. We were promptly seated upon entering and had very attentive waitstaff during our meal there, who constantly refilled water, checked up on us, and were very considerate when placing dishes down. Now, for the main part -- food! We ordered a couple of dishes to celebrate, which will be reviewed down below: Kalbi ($38.99): This is NOT the LA Kalbi, but the boneless one. This is a perfectly sharable portion for 2 people (though not enough to stand as a meal on its own). A bit pricey, yes, but what they lack in quantity, they sure make up for in quality. The meat comes to you in a nice box, and you can tell the quality is there, with small, bite size pieces ready for you (or the server) to grill at your table. The meat also comes with rice (brown or white), lettuce, miso soup, and a few appetizers (banchan) including newer kimchi (less pickled/spicy), marinated radish, broccoli, fish cake, and ssamjang (or what they called miso -- it's perfect to assemble your ssam/wrap to eat with). Great flavor, just don't overcook it! Do wish it came with sesame oil/salt, but will have to ask next time. Yook Hwe Bi Bim Bap ($23): If you like tartare, you will LOVE this! TIP: make sure to ask for the gochujang (spicy Korean chili sauce) to go with it - adds a kick and some character. The rice is nicely cooked (not too soft, definitely has some chew), and comes with LOADS of vegetables (sprouts, cucumber, carrots, lettuce), to make for a very refreshing (and filling) dish. DEFINITELY try the meat on its own, and DEFINITELY add the egg. Since Woodam prides itself in meat quality, you can hardly taste the chilled raw meat (sign of quality), and it provides such a good texture. Side Dish: Guk Su ($8.99): This is only available if you order a meat dish or a combo. Do NOT be fooled by the picture in the menu - this is a HUGE bowl of warm somen wheat noodles with a very slightly spicy clear broth. The noodles come with 2 good pieces of beef (nothing particularly special but an appreciated add in), scallions, zucchini, onion, and some red pepper. We thought it was going to be a cold dish, but it's just a really solid bowl of warm noodles to help digest everything else we're eating Side Dish: Savory Egg Souffle/Gye Ran Jjim ($4.99): No photo of it, but it comes out in a stone bowl and is prepared with a seafood broth. Don't wait too long -- the eggs got overcooked a bit in the bowl and were a bit bitter. Slight let down, but not bad Our total came out to around $40pp, and we were STUFFED. On price alone, I think it's a 4/5, but I love what Woodam is doing - the Morris Plains/Morristown area is in need of more Asian restaurants, and places like this are perfect introductions to peoples' palates. The flavors are milder and less spicy than your traditional Korean restaurants (100% aimed at the non-Asian market), but it definitely comes with the territory, and educating the masses bumps it up to a 5 for me. We are very happy there is solid Korean BBQ restaurant in the area. The short ribs were delicious, the seafood scallion pancake was light and fluffy with a nice portion of mixed seafood in it. Loved our Woodam experience! Made a reservation one week beforehand for a Friday night. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. BUT you need to cook it yourself. It was pretty easy and adds to the experience. If you prefer not to, you have the option for them to cook it in the kitchen. The wings were among the best, the dumplings were awesome, and our meals (shrimp and rib eye) were tasty and plentiful. They did a nice job with the space and delivering a unique experience. I came here for my birthday with a group of 6 people and the ambiance and service were amazing! The staff was so kind and attentive, as they cook your bbq for you at the table. The garibigui was something unique that I'd never tried before, and the flavor was great! Their pajuns are thicker than other ones I've had, but I liked the fluffiness of them and they are generous with the seafood filling. We also ordered both the beef and pork bbq combos, and they came with so much banchan that we almost had no room on the table! I was a fan of how corn cheese is one of the banchans. The meat was a great quality and definitely worth the price. I usually go to some AYCE kbbq places, but at with Woodam's price point, meat quality, and portion size (2 combos were enough for 6 people!), I would definitely come here more often instead. We also ordered hot tea which they generously refilled throughout our meal. A Thursday lunch so we had the place to ourselves mostly. Did the Beef BBQ for 2, GIGNORMOUS! & the staff was crazy super attentive, helpful & awesome. Given those parameters we had an amazing time. Per the recommendation of the staff we also ordered the nang-myeon, which I think is part of their summer menu, and given how hot it was outside, was a perfect addition to the meal! They have a great wine selection as well and everything complimented each other. The restaurant is lovely with plenty of space, a bar and beautiful decor. My friend wanted to try the brand new Korean place. We tried the brand new Korean place. I wanted to keep some money in my wallet. That did not happen. I wanted this to be authentic. That did not happen. It's... attempted authentically. That's what I can offer. First of all, we got a non-hotpot table. Which, whatever, but we don't get to cook our own food, it gets brought to us. Either way, you don't get a lot of food for your money. And it's not the same you'd get in Koreatown in the city, that I can vouch for after visiting several different places there. (For the same or less money, you get more food, for one. And it's tastier, and tangier/spicier/more authentic, and saucier, for two. And the service is more frequent and attentive, for three. I could go on.) I want to be clear nothing went wrong here, which is why I'm not diving below 3 stars, but none of the various dishes we both ordered spoke to me. Prices are way too high for what you get. This is not a formal restaurant, this is a casual place in a nice town trying to extort money from the inhabitants and hoping none of them are actually Korean to call them out on it. Located in the long vacant space near the Morris Plains train station previously occupied by Coco Pazzo, Woodam offers "DIY" Korean BBQ veggie, fish, chicken, beef, and pork entrees as well as a good selection of traditional Korean appetizers and entrees that don't require you to cook your own meal crafted from fresh ingredients in an upscale casual ambiance with attentive, but not overbearing service. I'd wanted to try Woodam since they opened a few months ago and I was happy when a friend suggested it was a good place to meet for a late weeknight dinner. When we arrived just before 8pm, the restaurant was relatively empty with only two other small parties seated in the open, airy dining room and a noisy group enjoying a 'girls night' in the private dining room on the second floor. The space is decorated in a tasteful, modern Korean-influenced aesthetic that's upscale enough for 'date night' yet casual enough for a routine meal with friends or family. The signature dish at Woodam is Korean BBQ -- in which diners grill their own veggies, fish, chicken, beef, or pork that have been marinated in the restaurant's signature soy, sesame, and garlic sauce over the flaming smokeless grills built right into the dining table. It's a memorable experience and Woodam's staff is ready and willing to jump in to help for those who aren't familiar or comfortable with cooking their own meal. The Korean BBQ dishes are served with a small selection of Korean side dishes, or banchan, including kimchi, veggies, and rice. In case you aren't in the mood to cook your own meal, Woodam offers a selection of traditional Korean appetizers and entrees - rice dishes, stews, and other dishes - cooked by professionals and delivered ready-to-eat right to your table. Such a novel concept! My friend and I started with the Duk Bok Ki appetizer ($12), comprised of tender rice cakes sautéed in a spicy red chili sauce with beef, which was very tasty and a good portion size for sharing. For entrees, I opted for the Bi Bim Bap ($18), with rice topped with carrot, zucchini, crisp lettuce greens, and spicy gochujang sauce and topped with tofu; my friend ordered the similar Dol Sot Bi Bim Bop ($20), which is the same as the traditional Bi Bim Bap served in a sizzling stone bowl. Our meals were fantastic -- filling portions of tasty recipes made with fresh ingredients by a chef who knows what he's doing in the kitchen. All in all, Woodam is a great all-around experience. I have to say my visit here was average at best, even though I had been very excited to try it out soon after they opened as there's no true BBQ place nearby. We ordered the bao bun appetizer, kalbi, and pork. Boa bun was a little lackluster and they didn't have kalbi bone in which was very disappointing. I really enjoy the interior of this place. Modern and cozy. Lots of seating with good spacing. Two floors. There is an elevator (but I'm not sure if it's only for staff bringing up the food). Service was pretty quick and friendly. We had: tteokbokki (very savory and good chew to the rice cake), Korean fried chicken (great flavor, good crunch), KBQQ: bulgogi (SO DELICIOUS AND FLAVORFUL!) and the kal bi short rib (pretty tasty, bulgogi better). Our Friday Lunch Crew (FLC) was on the move today heading out to try what I believe is the newest Korean BBQ in Morris County. We were all anxious for our visit to Woodam Korean BBQ, located at 650 Speedwell Avenue in Morris Plains a few doors down from Arthur's). We definitely hit a home run with this choice. Beautiful decor, inside and out. Warm, welcoming, casual ambiance, and the service and food was exemplary. David and Eli, the co-owners (Eli is the Chef) could not be more personable or hospitable. Our lunch exceeded our already high expectations. The quality and freshness of every ingredient in every dish was evident in every bite. Delicious, ample, and reasonably priced. Korean BBQ is also a great communal meal where you get to cook your own meat and vegetables to share and enjoy with friends or family. Of course, I'd be remiss not to thank our server, Suany, for all her help, expertise, and advice in the cooking process. All I can say is Wow and welcome to the area. A close nit group (15 in total) of neighbors ventured out to Woodam for dinner on a Friday night. With a large group, we called in advance and they were able to accommodate us with no issues. When we all arrived, we were seated promptly at 7 and our dinning experience began. One of the bonuses of Woodam is that it is BYOB. Our group tends to favor places where we can bring out favorite drinks, rather that rely on what wines me be on the menu. We took full advantage of the BYOB and had a great selection of wines. For those who may have forgotten, they have partnered with a winery and do sell wine for your enjoyment. Can't vouch for the wine, but it is an available option. Not long after sitting down, our wine glasses were brought out and we were sipping wine in no tike and scoping out the menu. Harry our server was the best. He was friendly and personable and took the time to explain the menu and offered many great suggestions. Pretty sure amongst our entire group, we ordered a bunch of the appatizers and we shared abd had a good sampling. There were no complaints and pretty sure everything was devoured. Some of the appatizers highlighted were the Pajun - traditional sizzling pancake with scallion and mixed peppers (vegetarian, kimchi, seafood), Mandu -pan fried house made dumplings (vegetarian, beef short rib), O Jing Aw Ti Kim - tempura calamari, shitake and chayote tossed in a sweet and soy glaze. Pretty sure you can't go wrong with any of the appatizers that are offered. I also had the Soon Doo Boo - spicy hotpot stew with silken tofu and red chili pepper (choice of beef, seafood, vegetable, kimchi) must say it was super tasty and will be back for more. For the main course we split an order from the BBQ menu and a rice dish. We ordered the Bul Go Gi -thinly sliced beef rib eye and the Bok Kum Bap wok fried rice with egg, beansprouts, scallion, soy, and sesame and added the chicken! With the bbq , each table has its own grilling area and we cooked our beef rib eye to our liking. It was a very unique experience that enhanced the overall dining experience. From start to finish, it was an amazing experience that we will definitely be doing again. Was there on New Year's Eve, service was super slow, which I could understand. The servers were all very nice and that's why I gave the 2 stars. They are for the servers and for the festive ambiance. The kimchi appetizer was not up to expectations. Not only the portion is way smaller than other korean restaurants, also the variety is very limited. Nothing impressive. The foods are average and overall i would recommend anyone to try. It's more for people who are not familiar with Korean BBQ and want the experience. Great legit Korean food that's not in Bergen County. I've always dreaded the drive out to Bergen where a lot of the Korean restaurants are. With traffic it's almost 2 hours out of your day. First time we were here during their grand opening we got the Korean bbq with Kalbi Tang (beef short rib soup) and Bi Bim Bap. The place was PACKED! This time we came for lunch so there wasn't much of a crowd and we're able to enjoy our food while watching the soccer game. We got the Korean fried chicken and the woodam sushi roll. Usually the Korean sushi roll is made with beef but this time we were a little adventurous and tried it with sea bass. Amazing! The sea bass is lightly fried with breading. No fishy aftertaste and complimented the sushi roll. On the lunch special menu I got the Kalbijim and my wife got the spicy pork bento box. Delicious flavors and very unique. We are by no means Korean BBQ aficionados but we have tried it a few times at a couple different locations. The food we had at Woodam was very good but I am not sure we got the desired value for the dollar. We have had equally good, if not better, food at other restaurants for a little less. This meal for 2 (2 apps, 2 bbq entrees) was just shy of a $100. The server was great. We told him we knew nothing and asked him for recommendations and guidance. A very upscale type of Korean BBQ. There's a big parking lot in the back of the restaurant (turn right at the traffic light across the train station and then make a left after the first building). Upon entering, the interior design was very nice and had many Korean elements to it. The place is a lot bigger than it looks since host brought us to second floor which had a similar layout to the first floor. The place is different than other Korean BBQ restaurants in that it is not AYCE. There is a mini grill with meats given enough for one person, even then I feel like it is still not enough for that satisfaction lightbulb to come on. The grill gets burnt easily since no oil was given and they do not change the grills even if it's been super charred. The side dishes are also only given if you order the meat, not many variety either. Out of everything ordered, my family and I really enjoyed the Korean pancakes and pork belly. read more

Nicely decorated and plenty of room with very high ceiling. Felt more like a Chinese restaurant than Korean but overall the owner took an effort to creating an inviting atmosphere. Each table has a built-in BBQ grill but didn't get to try to see if it has enough exhaust since I didn't notice an overhead vent. Ordered lunch special bibimbap and it has good assortment of vegetables and protein. I though the amount of protein is smaller than expected. I would say it should have at least 50 percent more protein. Each vegetable in the dish felt fresh and nicely seasoned. For $15, I think it is priced correctly for this area where there is no Korean restaurants in near proximity. Overall, food is good, service was excellent, and the restaurant was very clean. Even water tasted pretty good. Must be filtered water or Morris Plains has excellent tap water. I would recommend you try. I also noticed kalbi was priced very reasonably. They are typically around $45 per portion but not here. Will need to see what comes with the order but will review it later when I have a chance to visit again. For now, lunch special was very good. One more thing, you have to request for side dish if you want them. Otherwise, they will not be served. read more
