We've never been to Capital Grille before but it was a place we've been wanting to try. My husband graduated from college and I knew it was the perfect place to celebrate a milestone occassion. The graduation ran late, but thankfully they were able to accommodate our reservation. From the moment we walked in, it felt special. The statues were commanding attention, the wines arranged so eloquently, the hosts dressed impeccably all indicated this meal would be memorable. We gave our name and they asked us to wait, when we arrive at the table, there was graduation confetti at the table and they gave my husband a congratulatory card. They provided 5 glasses of prosecco to toast my husband which was such a nice gesture! The drinks were perfection! I had one of the best cosmos I've ever had. It was strong but so very tasty and worth the $18 price. My hubby had a rye/bourbon drink with bitters that was smooth and very enjoyable. My friend had 2! My daughter's espresso martini again, just so delish The calamari with banana peppers were crunchy and perfectly prepared. My daughter isn't a meat eater so she got chopped salad and the biggest crock of French onion soup I've ever seen. The soup had a hint of sherry and the onions were perfectly caramelized. The cheese was not gooey or clumpy which is all you want from French onion. I got the sliced fillet with fig essence. I ordered medium which was a bit pink in the center for me but the server did mention in before I ordered. I wanted to see the difference when you order in a true steak house. I'd order medium well next time for me. My daughter got the 10 oz fillet which was cooked to perfection. She also ordered mashed potatoes and cream spinach for the table to share. All good! My husband's steak was exactly what he wanted and he thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Our friend is a vegan, but he enjoyed coming out with us, ordered a salad and burrata. (We ate the cheese) We were too full for dessert but they brought a platter with a mini cheese cake and chocolate cake on a platter that said congratulations to celebrate him. The service was excellent! We had so many people that blended into the background but at the same time were super nice, friendly and professional. My husband and I have visited Capital Grille for happy hour a few times now since they started it and it's absolutely one of our FAVORITES! Michelle is a fantastic bartender, super friendly, attentive and she makes a fabulous cocktail! We have now tried all of the dishes on the Lounge Plates section from the happy hour menu and every plate is wonderful. The Cast Iron Shrimp is by far the dish we order every time.. the shrimp are huge, perfectly cooked and that sauce is dreamy! The NY Strip and Lamb Chops were awesome, hubby loved the Oysters Casino, the Mushroom Arancini were crispy and delicious, Petite Filet Sliders are a great choice for sharing, Caesar Salad Bites and Parmesan Truffle Fries are also yummy sides. Went again this past weekend with 3 other couples. Had a drink at the bar and were seated promptly. My wife and I shared their cast iron shrimp appetizer which was very good. For mains we shared a porterhouse and that too was very good. Service is impeccable. This was a much better experience than our last visit here which I can only describe as awful. The prices are great. $10 cocktails, oysters casino are only available at cocktail hour, The sliced sirloin with aji verde is great, kind of like a cilantro oil sauce. The service, while impeccable, couldn't fully justify the price you're paying for food. Though the food was delicious it didn't measure up to their cost. The dry aged steak for example (which costed nearly $100 at the time of this review) was tasty but wasn't life changing and, if anything, tasted like any other steak that was nicely seasoned and cooked. If anything perhaps go to the Capital Grille once for the experience, but beyond that you might be better off splurging elsewhere. read more

The manager also stopped by to make sure everything was good. The ambience is excellent. You have an open view of the kitchen and the wine collection. You definitely feel like you're in a great restaurant. The food is first rate. We started with a nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. My wife had a salad and I ordered a crock of French Onion soup. The soup may have been the best French Onion I've ever had. We both had the filet as our entrees. I had the sliced filet with cippollini onions and mushrooms, my wife had the 10 oz filet. Sides of au gratin potatoes and asparagus were a good combo. The steak is just amazing here! We topped the meal off by sharing the seasonal berries. Just a great meal! Been going here for quite some time. Last night I had what was their standard ribeye. A solid ribeye. No complaints. Service was great tonight. My colleague has a serere allergy to nutts and he made to dessert and out the door so they did a good job in that front. Ambiance is always the same. Buisness lunch/dinner vibes. They make a solid cocktail and always do. There were 1 or 2 dinners I've had here where the steak was 11 out of 10. I still chase that steak when I come and go. For dinner I had the chef's recommendation of the bone-in NY strip encrusted in Kona coffee with potatoes au-gratin and sautéed steamed spinach which was done to perfection. I have been to The Capital Grille in New York City before (specifically the one in MIdtown Manhattan) so when my partner wanted her birthday to be "New York City style but in New Jersey" (to cut down on commute time) I was happy to see the chain of steakhouses has locations in New Jersey! Unlike its counterpart in Manhattan's Midtown East, this location is huge! Located in a standalone building (with a giant silver lion statue outside to boot) this location definitely seeks to make an impression! When you enter the decor of dark wood and a sophisticated sense of style hits immediately. It does veer into amusing territory here and there such as the giant eagle statue that was next to our table (I mean, it was cool but...why?). As you walk into the restaurant there is a bar area with some small tables. We didn't hang out there but it looked beautiful. We sat at a booth right next to the kitchen which was super cool. I love looking into the kitchen as professionals work hard to prepare meals. I imagine that puts a lot of pressure on them but the staff never broke a sweat. Service was paramount. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. At one point the manager even brought out a rose for my partner and our waiter selected complimentary desserts complete with a candle! So what about the food? I am happy to report it was excellent. They open with a big bread basket full of assorted breads (the raisin bread was my favorite). Here's what we ordered: GRAND PLATEAU This seafood tower comes on two impressive silver platters that are stacked on top of one another at the table making for a dramatic presentation. It has jumbo lump crab, North Atlantic lobster, shrimp cocktail and oysters on the half shell. Everything was delicious but be a bit careful with the oysters. A tiny bit of shell got stuck in my teeth (I had to pick it out). If you're into cold seafood, this is the dish for you! FIELD GREENS SALAD Butter leaf lettuce, heirloom tomatoes with a Parmesan vinaigrette. This was a simple salad but it acted as a nice, light counterbalance to the much heavier steak. BONE IN RIB-EYE We had this steak medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. The meat was tender and cut easily. I will say however that the seasoning could have been better. They needed to add a bit more salt and some pepper but we asked for their version of A1 sauce which actually had a nice sweetness and tang to it and that did the trick. The cheesecake dessert was great, complete with a brûlée on top that really elevated it! We had a great experience at Capital Grille. If you want a great steakhouse in the area to have a meal in a sophisticated feeling environment this is the place for you! read more

It's taken me awhile but finally got to leaving a review. We had our company Christmas party here in a private room. Service was excellent but that's where it stopped. The food, for the price, is not worth it. We had their pre fixe party menu. Started with calamari which was over salted and cooked. As an extra I ordered the thick cut bacon and it was a bit on the fatty side yet enjoyable. Main course were of course the steaks. I ordered mine Medium Rare...it came out nearly well done. Same with 2 other people at the table. How the heck is that possible. They did offer to swap out the steak but honestly I didn't want to wait. I get why people would go here as it's really nice atmosphere and definitely above a RuthChris. At the same time, no bueno when your steak doesn't come out as requested. My husband and I dined here a few weeks ago and LOVED our meal. I was so caught up in the service and food that I even forgot to take photos! We started with two apps: a shrimp scampi special which was delicious and so garlicky, I could have consumed the sauce with a spoon; and the smoked bacon with Korean BBQ, which had incredible flavor but I did not enjoy the fatty pieces of the double cut. For dinner, I had the Lobster and Crabcake appetizer which I thought initially looked very small for an app that allegedly serves two, but it was the perfect dinner portion. Our server, Jairo , had a pleasant demeanor and was very knowledgeable about the menu items. We ordered his recommendations and enjoyed every bite. Even more impressive was his ability to Remember what drinks we enjoyed, the appetizers and steaks that we have ordered in the past. Jairo is not only the greatest server I have ever met but he has the ability to partake in a conversation and ensured the entire evening was great. Booth was comfy and room was filled with birthday celebrations, families, couples, girls night etc. It wasn't loud. Our waitress Samantha was bubbly, personable and spot on. Her helper Sydney was constantly helping many tables. They both knew not to interrupt while we were conversing unlike many other restaurants. Many waiters / waitresses constantly interrupt and ask how's everything too many times. Samantha was great at reading this. Now... the food. The field greens salad (delicious Parmesan dressing) was a large portion as well as the bowl of lobster bisque soup . They gave you plenty of waite time in between courses which is a plus.The 22 ounce ribeye was cooked to perfection as well as the scallops w/ lobster-asparagus risotto. Dessert was hard to choose, but the apple tarte it was! Decadent and definitely hit the sweet spot. It's obviously not an every weekend event to go here, but every time we do, it's outstanding! I've always heard great things about Capital Grille, so I thought this would be the perfect time to check it out for myself. My wife and I went here for the first time a few months ago for our anniversary. Made reservations for a Sunday evening; upon checking in there was no delay in getting seated at our table. They placed us in a smaller quiet room, which made it more intimate. The restaurant is nicely decorated, very clean, and elegant. Our wait staff was exceptional with very attentive service; apologies I can't recall our waiter's name! The drinks were made just right and the appetizers of crab cakes and lobster bisque were nothing short of delicious! Even the bread basket was spot on! For the main course, we both ordered different cuts of steak and requested them to be prepared--well & med-well--and both were grilled to perfection. We ordered the Filet and Lamb Chops both seasoned and cooked to perfect. Also the new style of lobster and crab cake was amazing with the right sear and amazing flavor. This was our third trip to this location for lunch, we usually sit by the bar and were dreading the same rude bartender and there she was.. she was teh same girl We were such an inconvenience to her day .. asked for menu, asked for water, asked for drinks, asked for another round of drink.. and customer should not be the one asking! she is not happy at her job as is going to make the restaurant lose some customers who love to dine there because of her poor attitude. Had the filet mignon. Nice size piece! Asked for rare but came out pretty much medium but still tasted good. Sides were tasty as well such as, scalloped potatoes and garlic spinach. Good job filing the water glasses when close to empty also! They have a sign in front about proper attire, yet when we walked in there were people in sweat pants and some with baseball caps. I must say their service and thoughtfulness is top notch. I made a reservation for our 17th anniversary. They sprinkled our table with hearts and had a hand written card waiting for us at the table. One of the managers also brought over a rose for my wife. Our waiter is very knowledgeable of the menu and very helpful. We liked the Brussel sprouts and the truffle fries. We ordered rib eye and dry-aged NY strip. Rib eye was tendered but only part of the dry-aged is tender. My wife enjoyed it but I just thought the steak would be warmer when they came out and I thought the steaks were good but I thought they would be better. It was on special, and it was nice to be able to go that way without having to find someone else at the table to share it with. It was still a big main dish, and not having eaten all day helped me finish it at the table. To start, the New England Clam Chowder - A New England favorite seasoned with our own blend of spices, was perfect. The surprise, however, for the night was "The Generous Pour." For $35 you have a select list of wines to choose from, and you can literally have as much (or as many) as you want. I believe it is only through the 3rd of September, but this is a super nice way to roam about several different wines throughout dinner. Since there was no limit on anything I felt good asking for sample sized pours rather than having a lot of a particular style for the night. Yes, the Grille is a chain and if you have been to any of them before this one is going to feel familiar. With that said, it feels a little more high end than the experience as there were some flaws for the night. The biggest example of which was the glasses coming out for the Generous Pour experience. The glasses were fresh out of the dishwasher. Yes, they were warm enough to say they were hot, and though the server was happy to start fresh after putting some in the freezer this is something that should be handled differently from the top at a place like this. read more
