Engineered Hardwood floors - glue down install by Cavell at Woodchuck Flooring. This is our cabinet guy doing final toe kicks and trims.
    Morgan C.

Woodchuck flooring saved us and we would definitely recommend them! Anybody who was doing a remodel in 2021 knows how hard it is to find quality contractors/trades and then even harder to get on their schedule! Everyone is booked out quite a few weeks to months. We were doing a kitchen remodel in an area that was only about 150 sq ft. After cabinets were installed, the area that needed flooring was 110 to 120 sq ft. Not a huge project, but a big deal to us because we were desperately trying to finish by Thanksgiving. Flooring needed to be put in so that cabinet guys could do final toe kicks and trim, then countertops could be installed, followed by backsplash, then final plumbing and electrical. That's a lot of dominos to schedule and coordinate. We were handling all the general contracting duties ourselves. We had been in talks with another flooring installer the month before and he said he would try to fit us in when he could. But as the weeks past it was clear that he just became too busy to work with our schedule. So we had to scramble to find a new flooring company. Thank goodness we came upon Woodchuck flooring! Initially spoke with Chad on a Thursday evening (a week and a half before Thanksgiving!). We discussed the project over the phone then followed with some photos and texts on Friday. Because our project was on the smaller side and we already had all the flooring on site, Chad said he would find a way to squeeze us in next week. On Monday, Chad came out to personally look over the project and confirm everything. That Weds, Cavell was sent out to take care of us. Cavell is a great guy, friendly attitude, and really cares about doing an awesome job and making it look good! The results really do speak for themselves. By the end of the day on Weds. Cavell had finished about 85% of the job. The next day we had scheduled our cabinet guy because it was the only day he was available. We were concerned they would get in each others way, but everything worked out smoothly! Cavell wrapped up the remaining flooring by lunch time and had to go off to his next flooring adventure. Our cabinet guy was now able to button everything up since final flooring was in! The flooring we went with was a 7.5" wide engineered hardwood that was only 1/2" thick. The reason for that thickness was that we wanted to match the thickness of our current wood floors to avoid having to put in a transition. This worked out perfectly as you can see from the pic showing the old floor and the new floor almost seamlessly flush with no transition filler needed. Originally, we wanted to have these planks only nailed down in case we ever had to repair for water damage or whatever. After speaking with several floor installers and Chad, it was determined that these wider planks must be glued down so as to avoid any potential cupping, squeaks etc. The issue is that when planks are this wide there would be too much space between the nails. Old flooring is usually nail down because the planks are only about 2 inches wide so there are nails every 2 inches holding down the flooring. Having nails every 7+ inches a part is too much spacing for a quality, long lasting install. We also had the subfloors all screwed down before Woodchuck came on scene. Between a screwed down subfloor and glued down engineered hardwood planks, the flooring in the kitchen will be solid pretty much forever. So a big thank you to Woodchuck flooring for being able to squeeze us into their schedule. You guys helped saved Thanksgiving for us! This was only possible because you guys are organized, responsive, reliable, and do great work. Even though our project was small, we were always treated like important customers. Chad always had time to talk or answer any questions. Cavell did a wonderful job and we are happy with how it all turned out.

    Edges so clean!

Absolute experts on solid plank installation. Could not be happier with the skill and knowledge they brought to our new floor installation. Chad and Dave were total professionals who were easy to communicate with. Aside from the finished look and attention to longevity, Dave managed the dust like only a master craftsman can. Thanks guys!

    Corner molding look after work

I interviewed and had estimates from 2 companies in addition to Wood Chuck Floors. I went with Wood Chuck based on prior reviews and them being a "family owned and operated" business. Chad (owner's son) came to our home and was a nice gentleman and assured us of the color, finish and quality of the work and that they stand behind the work they do. We asked for the floors to be the very same color and luster of the existing flooring. We planned to be out of town for the 10 days they told us needed to complete the work and when I called to speak with the on-site supervisor, I learned that our work was sub-contracted out to Cordova Floors. When we returned home, we were very disappointed with our floors as they were a different color and finish than what we were told to expect and what we had previously. We thought the floors still needed to be varnished and the molding finished and varnished also. Unfortunately, we believe our floors looked nicer prior to the refinishing done for our home. We had the entire inside of the house painted about 8 months prior to floors being done and the damage to the baseboards and walls was well beyond what we were told to expect. Chad admitted the damage was beyond the norm and compensated us a modest amount from the overall price. There was varnish splashed on walls in a number of rooms and we will pay for the prep and painting necessary. Most notable is the new 1/4 molding along the floors does not match the floors, or even match itself along the same wall (see photos). The baseboard quality is not what one should expect from a professional flooring company, but please look at the photos and judge for yourself if I am being too harsh. The grain/color along a wall changes mid-wall (photo) and will need to be redone throughout the house or painted white instead. In retrospect, we would have selected one of the other companies and paid more money for the product we were told to expect and hoped for. I am very disappointed to write this review and would have loved to be able to write a glowing review and have a product that we are very happy with. We are envious of the other reviews on this company but can only relay our personal experience so that you can decide on the best company for your wood floors.

Living room & dining room floors updated with a luxury vinyl

We bought our first home in June and wanted to make a few changes to make it feel more like OURS. We absolutely loved working with Chad at Woodchuck. He was incredibly patient with all our questions, flexible with scheduling, and incredibly knowledgeable. We really appreciated how responsive he was, as we've found communication isn't a strong suit of most contractors. Everyone on the Woodchuck team was so professional, followed safety protocols due to COVID, and are truly experts at their craft. They were also very reasonably priced when we compared them to various bids. You can always find someone to do a job cheaper but you will pay for what you get. The job was done in record time & our floors turned out fantastic. We'd absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to do any flooring.

The people at Woodchuck were a pleasure to work with. We hired them to source some hardwood for us to install in an addition that we laced into the original hardwoods. They sanded and refinished the rest of the house when we were done and they did a great job. We did the Bona Mega Amber seal with the Bona Mega satin natural finish. Couldn't be happier with the result on our new and original red oak hardwood floors.

Woodchuck Flooring came highly recommended by family and they did not disappoint! We are extremely happy with their work, they are very nice, accommodating, and professional and overall great people who are enjoyable to work with. The floors ended up looking better than expected, we are so happy with them! They may not be the cheapest option to go with but also definitely not the most expensive yet worth the investment with the level of care and precision that they provide, I wouldn't choose any other company.

    a dining table and chairs

Chad and his team recently replaced the floors in my downtown loft and I could not be happier with the result. It was an absolute pleasure to work with them. There was no pressure, no upsell, and no hidden costs. They were patient with me while I decided on the flooring and when it finally came time for the installation they did an outstanding job with incredible attention to detail. The guys doing the installation were professional and responsive and they even went out of their way to return the following week to fix a few small details. I would absolutely use them again. If you're looking for an honest company that does high quality work, you found it.

I found woodchuck flooring by asking for recommendations on the Clairemont Facebook page. I immediately took to yelp to read their reviews & messaged him for an estimate. We have an old house with the original red oak wood floors but have been hiding under carpet all these years. We ripped out the carpet in the living, room, dining room & hallway. They restored my floors & stained them a beautiful color that I chose. I had to buy new floors for my dining room since originally they did not continue the hard wood floors in there so my original estimate of course went up & we also had them replace our baseboards. The outcome was beautiful. I would recommend woodchuck flooring to anyone looking to beatify their floors!

Let me preface this with some background - I bought a house a few years ago and I started noticing uneven floors in the kitchen. This was probably due to the original installers installing the island on top of the flooring, and not having enough space in btwn the flooring to breathe / bad installation. While looking for quotes, we did a lot of research beforehand so we could be prepared and understand what needed to be done so we wouldn't be upcharged. When we met Scott he was very friendly, knowledgeable with all of our questions, and eager to work with us. I feel like not a lot of contractors were as helpful and took us seriously so we were really excited to work with Scott. His prices were fair and we really appreciated him being flexible and working with our budget too. Fast forward to the installation, everything was great and the floors turned out beautiful! Abraham and his team were very professional, kind, and if we had any issues they were quick and open to fixing them. They were always on time and the flooring installation was pretty quick and painless (just be mindful that with this type of work the house will get dusty so be prepared to clean afterwards). They did the self leveling, added moisture barrier and installed our floors. We also asked them to redo our stairs / baseboards too so everything would match. Our stairs had some exposed edges that made it kind of difficult to rework and Abraham was able to figure out a nice way to make them look nice. A year later, we had a pipe leak / foundation issues and we reached out to Scott again to help provide a quote for our insurance since they were damaged. Scott was always one phone call away whenever we needed him to answer questions or stop by to provide quotes. We ended up working with him one more time because we trusted his team to redo our floors. Due to the nature of these unfortunate events, there were a lot of issues going back and forth with insurance, other contractors, and Scott was probably the most consistent one who we knew was on our side. He was always helpful, provided sound advice, and was just a great person to work with. I truly felt like he had our best interest and was working to help us fix our issues instead of just being a salesman and getting the most he could from us. He was helping us without a guarantee we would work with him because of all the insurance obstacles. It's really difficult to find people like that and I'm truly grateful for Scott and his team! The new floors turned out great! Since we only fixed part of our floors, I just want to mention that our original floors still look great no issues with them so far after a year!

What surprised me about working with Josh and Door Store and Design? I thought Josh was a salesman.. He was much more than that. He was hands on in working out details of installation. One example: I found a baseboard I liked at another place, and Josh was able to order that for me at same price as offerings at his store. He also made a personal visit at end of work to check details before I made the final payment. I also had new doors installed, and Josh coordinated work with the door contractor for smoothest completion of floors, doors and baseboards installation.
