Woodchuck flooring saved us and we would definitely recommend them! Anybody who was doing a remodel in 2021 knows how hard it is to find quality contractors/trades and then even harder to get on their schedule! Everyone is booked out quite a few weeks to months. We were doing a kitchen remodel in an area that was only about 150 sq ft. After cabinets were installed, the area that needed flooring was 110 to 120 sq ft. Not a huge project, but a big deal to us because we were desperately trying to finish by Thanksgiving. Flooring needed to be put in so that cabinet guys could do final toe kicks and trim, then countertops could be installed, followed by backsplash, then final plumbing and electrical. That's a lot of dominos to schedule and coordinate. We were handling all the general contracting duties ourselves. We had been in talks with another flooring installer the month before and he said he would try to fit us in when he could. But as the weeks past it was clear that he just became too busy to work with our schedule. So we had to scramble to find a new flooring company. Thank goodness we came upon Woodchuck flooring! Initially spoke with Chad on a Thursday evening (a week and a half before Thanksgiving!). We discussed the project over the phone then followed with some photos and texts on Friday. Because our project was on the smaller side and we already had all the flooring on site, Chad said he would find a way to squeeze us in next week. On Monday, Chad came out to personally look over the project and confirm everything. That Weds, Cavell was sent out to take care of us. Cavell is a great guy, friendly attitude, and really cares about doing an awesome job and making it look good! The results really do speak for themselves. By the end of the day on Weds. Cavell had finished about 85% of the job. The next day we had scheduled our cabinet guy because it was the only day he was available. We were concerned they would get in each others way, but everything worked out smoothly! Cavell wrapped up the remaining flooring by lunch time and had to go off to his next flooring adventure. Our cabinet guy was now able to button everything up since final flooring was in! The flooring we went with was a 7.5" wide engineered hardwood that was only 1/2" thick. The reason for that thickness was that we wanted to match the thickness of our current wood floors to avoid having to put in a transition. This worked out perfectly as you can see from the pic showing the old floor and the new floor almost seamlessly flush with no transition filler needed. Originally, we wanted to have these planks only nailed down in case we ever had to repair for water damage or whatever. After speaking with several floor installers and Chad, it was determined that these wider planks must be glued down so as to avoid any potential cupping, squeaks etc. The issue is that when planks are this wide there would be too much space between the nails. Old flooring is usually nail down because the planks are only about 2 inches wide so there are nails every 2 inches holding down the flooring. Having nails every 7+ inches a part is too much spacing for a quality, long lasting install. We also had the subfloors all screwed down before Woodchuck came on scene. Between a screwed down subfloor and glued down engineered hardwood planks, the flooring in the kitchen will be solid pretty much forever. So a big thank you to Woodchuck flooring for being able to squeeze us into their schedule. You guys helped saved Thanksgiving for us! This was only possible because you guys are organized, responsive, reliable, and do great work. Even though our project was small, we were always treated like important customers. Chad always had time to talk or answer any questions. Cavell did a wonderful job and we are happy with how it all turned out. read more

I interviewed and had estimates from 2 companies in addition to Wood Chuck Floors. I went with Wood Chuck based on prior reviews and them being a "family owned and operated" business. Chad (owner's son) came to our home and was a nice gentleman and assured us of the color, finish and quality of the work and that they stand behind the work they do. We asked for the floors to be the very same color and luster of the existing flooring. We planned to be out of town for the 10 days they told us needed to complete the work and when I called to speak with the on-site supervisor, I learned that our work was sub-contracted out to Cordova Floors. When we returned home, we were very disappointed with our floors as they were a different color and finish than what we were told to expect and what we had previously. We thought the floors still needed to be varnished and the molding finished and varnished also. Unfortunately, we believe our floors looked nicer prior to the refinishing done for our home. We had the entire inside of the house painted about 8 months prior to floors being done and the damage to the baseboards and walls was well beyond what we were told to expect. Chad admitted the damage was beyond the norm and compensated us a modest amount from the overall price. There was varnish splashed on walls in a number of rooms and we will pay for the prep and painting necessary. Most notable is the new 1/4 molding along the floors does not match the floors, or even match itself along the same wall (see photos). The baseboard quality is not what one should expect from a professional flooring company, but please look at the photos and judge for yourself if I am being too harsh. The grain/color along a wall changes mid-wall (photo) and will need to be redone throughout the house or painted white instead. In retrospect, we would have selected one of the other companies and paid more money for the product we were told to expect and hoped for. I am very disappointed to write this review and would have loved to be able to write a glowing review and have a product that we are very happy with. We are envious of the other reviews on this company but can only relay our personal experience so that you can decide on the best company for your wood floors. read more

We would give more stars if possible. Woodchuck Flooring installed a wooden floor that the manufacturer said could be floated. Unfortunately once installed it squeaked. Chad never hesitated to take full responsibility while the company who manufactured the flooring refused to admit their culpability. We let it settle for a while, hoping it would get better, it didn't. Chad was very responsive and communicative the entire time. He decided that we had waited long enough for the manufacturer to help out so he had a crew come in, remove the flooring and put if back in, gluing it down this time with non VOC glue. We are bummed that they had to do all of this extra work but the outcome is BEAUTIFUL! The re-install went much quicker than we anticipated, and the crew was very professional and kind! I had a great experience with wood chuck flooring! Being a first time home owner, I shopped around a lot for quotes on our floors. We went with Chuck, not because he was the cheapest but he had a lot of experience working with floors. We chose a natural hickory floor and its a little tricky to instal if you don't have experience with it. They were very efficient. They had our carpet etc removed, concrete foundation refinished, flooring and baseboards in in four days! The negotiated and got our flooring materials for a really row rate. As soon as the flooring was in, they were there to start install. I am pretty picky about details. I didn't like the juxtaposition of some of the floorboards. They were very understanding and worked with me. They sat down with me and redid the parts that I wasn't happy with. And were still able to complete on time and with no additional cost. Chuck, David, and their team saved me from a nightmare scenario I found myself in by hiring the wrong contractors. The difference between Chuck's team and the shoddy contractors I hired was night and day. - Chuck came by nearly every day to check up on the work on the house. This is compared to the other guy I initially hired, who just came to collect my check, leaving me to deal with their shoddy subcontractors. - Chuck and David took the time to perfect the job - most importantly, the leveling. I had pretty janked up wooden subfloors that needed to be worked on. Dave and his crew of 5+ guys worked quickly and efficiently to float the entire area. Even if it meant more material and a higher cost on their end, they put in the extra effort to get the job done right. That's dedication! - David spent most of the time with the subfloor prep and leveling (the most important part of the job). If the contractors you hire are laying down flooring immediately after demoing the carpet...then that's a pretty bad sign. The first guys I hired had the "get in, get out" mentality and were doing just that. David, on the other hand, took an ample amount of time to vacuum, seal, prep and level the floors. I was amazed at the level of detail and perfection of David's work. - By the time I had to fire the first contractors, I left with mess. Chuck and David were kind enough to work with what they had left, even if it meant dealing with base boards that were not purchased through Chuck, or having to sort between good and damaged boards. - The manner in which David set up before working was impeccable. He had the appropriate tools for the job. He set up a vacuum to collect any dust from his saws, and had the plastics covering the walls to protect them from damage. The other guys I hired set their miter saw up next to my front yard, leaving loads of plastic debris all over my plants! Additionally, because David knew how to set up before each leg of the job, he was able to quickly and efficiently finish a job in just a few days. - The quality of materials they used were industry leading products. David used Bolstik SL-GYP for the leveling, along with the appropriate primer, and foam sealant. As a fellow homeowner, I urge others to take extreme caution in selecting who you decide to hire, and let touch your home. I've realized that there are a ton of shoddy contractors out there these days who look at these jobs as quick money-grabs. They'll do all they can to minimize the amount of labor, man-hours, and materials on their end, without caring much of the final product you're left with. It might be just a week's project for them, but your floors are something you have to deal with for 30+ years. After getting an estimate to refinish the hardwood oak floors in my classic Mission Hills home, I felt obliged to use this company based on their years in the business. However, when I immediately expressed my concern about a couple of spots that appeared to have a "fish-eye" finish, I was told by the Owner, Chuck, that because I got a great deal, they would not refinish these areas without additional $200-400.00 payment. So, I deducted 50% of the cost of this refinishing by Woodchuck Flooring from my tenant's security deposit, the tenant sued me and Chuck provided (the tenant) a Statement of Facts to the effect that my floors never needed this service and there were NO scratches?!? 40 year old floors were refinished awhile ago, so this may not be fair. I never called to complain, my fault, I just couldn't bear the thought of what mess might be made fixing the problem. I hope they have learned from their mistakes. When the floors were refinished, a trainee was doing the work. We were told 2 coats of finish would be adequate, and it might have been if they had not missed the dining room the on the 2nd coat. No one ever called us to see if we were satisfied or came by to see the dried version of their work. You can't observe while this work is being done so until they've cleaned up and gotten their money, you're stuck. read more
