We loved this bar! Decided to go to Astoria for a couple days with our 23 year old son for his birthday. We wandered over to the workers and had a great breakfast and later that day we had super delicious food for dinner!! The back outside space is beautiful comfortable and with a fire pit no less!!! I'm selling my home and leaving the PNW for sunny Florida. Workers is across from the Holiday Inn, so I'm living here for a week as my house closes. This place rocks! If I'd found it sooner, I would have come over from Washington at least once a week. What a blast ! We were excited to visit this establishment and grub on food after running Hood To Coast. After ordering drinks and our food, we waited over an hour for our food, to then realize it hadn't been started. No one checked on us at all in the hour we sat waiting for food, no one in the bar was even eating. We would've had more drinks! When we realized food hadn't been started we left, and still had to pay for the drinks. Fine and dandy but the service was awful. Bloody Mary was great but will not be back. This is my favorite bar in Astoria. I finally feel like I can order a drink out and get an honest drink. The Yucca here is outstanding. I've never seen this on a menu. It's fun to shake it until it's ready. There's always a generous pour of alcohol in this drink. The food is nothing special, but it always taste great. The bartenders are always fun to talk with and I love the atmosphere. If you live in Astoria or are from out of town, this is a must stop. This is one of my favorite bars in the country. read more

Things I liked about this place: 1. Music and ambiance - Rock On! 2. Clam Chowder (though it was a little cold) 3. Beer (but you can't mess that up) Things I did not like: 1. Food - it was mediocre. I got the turkey BLT and the bacon was hard, burnt and the sandwich was just bland. And we also got the Pork BBQ sandwich and I cannot tell why the meat looked the way it did, almost like ground turkey, no seasoning, barely enough BBQ. The fries were good, the tots needed ore salt. We came in hoping for all day breakfast but found they weren't serving it all day any longer. Instead we ordered some dirty fries and crab Mac and cheese to split. Both were good. We washed it down with a Bloody Mary, brown sugar bourbon lemon drop, and the bar specialty a Yucca. What is a yucca? This is the second time we've stayed at the Airbnb at Worker's. First time was in May, and we made reservations for this trip while we were still here. This trip we made it for Meat Bingo, and it is what it sounds like: you play Bingo and win meat! We didn't win, but at $.25 a card and all the sweet, crazy locals cheering and laughing, it was totally worth it! We got to visit with the staff again, feeling like we had just been in last week. On the morning of our departure we had a great breakfast with plenty of coffee and laughs. If you thrive in a dive bar setting, you need to come here. I guarantee we'll be back again soon! read more

Best dive bar in Astoria in vintage 1905 building. Our first visit there was great. Owner, Diana Kirk, has this super cool patio area open for customers to enjoy a meal, a drink,or the fire pit. We especially loved the delicious seafood bucket feast for two filled with clams, oysters, shrimp, corn & potatoes!! A good value at $35. The best was sitting under the iconic Megler bridge enjoying new friends, a cool breeze, and a signature "yucca" lemony drink which requires lots of shaking! I gotta say this is the best spot to go for Afew drinks and some bar food grub. You gotta try the Crabb omelette as well as the Lemon Yucca. The bar itself is awesome. It's circular and lends itself to interaction. A jukebox is accessible, there are good beers on draft, and our bartender Jenn was always on point. Would give negative stars if I could. Came In from out of town after having a wonderful time with my friends visiting Portland when the bartender approached us and asked how intoxicated we were because we were laughing. Bartender asked how much we drank we explained we have not been drinking and one friend had one beer prior to arrival about 2 hours prior (as it was his business). He said "have a good night and I'm not serving you" as he walked away. I have to say this was one of the most rude inter-counters I have ever had in a bar/ restaurant experience I have ever had. Stopped in here for lunch based on recommendations. The bartender/server Jenny greeted me with a smile and was very welcoming. So far, so good. This is not a fancy restaurant, but that was not what I was looking for. People sipping brewskis and cocktails at the bar, a few playing video games. Very comfy. Arrived in town about 9am and wanted breakfast. Saw in the window breakfast served all day. Pulled up in front and walked in and discovered it was actually a dive bar that really sold food! Breakfast. Sometimes you just want a big plate of all the good stuff, and this place was perfect. Breakfast buffet on Saturday included potatoes, eggs, biscuits, bacon, sausage, and French toast. Amazing! The French toast could even go without syrup it was that good. Coffee was fresh and hot. And the decor and vibe were the icing on the cake! The 3 Amigos were on a road trip to the Great northwest a few months ago. Since Workers Tavern was just across the street from the hotel, we decided to give it a run. The "Breakfast Gods" were watching over us! The breakfast was great, so much so that we inquired about the steak dinner. Yup, you guessed it; returned for the Rib-Eye!! Only downside was, when we got there, they only had two steaks left. Upside, the steaks were cooked SUPERBLY! Excellent job chef!! Just another reason to stay in Astoria for a day or two (one day for the Rib-eye, the other day (Saturday) for the Seafood Bucket)!!! And have a "Yucca" while you're there!! Everything you want in a "dive bar". Not too divey, just a great bar, fun bartender who is to the point and makes a perfect White Russian. Try their famous yucca lemon drink, it's a refreshing buzz! Fantastic. I told my husband I was in the mood for a burger and he suggested swinging into a bar for some food to go. This place was across from our hotel and looked decent so I stopped in and ordered a cheeseburger for myself and a BLT for him. The person who took my order was super friendly and helpful, and food was ready fairly quickly. We took our food back to the hotel and dug in and it was absolutely delicious. I simply fell in love with Mary Todd's. We walked into this cash only tavern looking for breakfast and a stiff morning cocktail. We met Bobbi who was working the bar, and what a sweetheart she is! I see Mary Todd's as a little local treasure. The bar is wood with whimsical carvings from various travelers and locals alike. The have a very large outdoor area with a BBQ, tables and a fire pit. It is just my kind of tavern. We needed meat. The woman working the kitchen was a delight, and she is no stranger to grilling a steak. The Ribeye breakfast steak we ordered was cooked perfectly. It had a deep salty crust on it with a blood red, melt-in-your-mouth texture. I salivate thinking of it. A knife was not needed. If only I could find a place in my home town that could do that to a piece of meat. Locally farmed meat to boot. It had a sweet grassy flavor. The hash browns and eggs that came with the steak were pushed to the side. We should have ordered the steak with a side of another steak. I fully intend to stop at Mary Todd's every time I am in Astoria. I will most likely compare every steak I eat from now on with that work of art the cook made for us. Opened in 1924, Mary Todd's Workers Bar & Grill is recognized as one of the top ten fisherman-friendly bars in the United States. It's located in the small, historic, and pleasantly funky western part of Astoria known as Uniontown. I'm sure the building holds tons of history, none of which I was able to find in my reference book or online. They serve darn good breakfasts (all day) which I'd recommend the huge Chicken Fried Steak served with hash browns, three eggs the way you want them and four slices of toast for around $11. So if you need a good hangover cure I'd suggest the breakfast and a good strong, cheap, bloody Mary which you can dress up with all the fixings right at the bar. What you might really enjoy if you dig Dive Bars is that Mary Todd's night crowd is a little old and new school. My cohorts and I wandered in one Saturday night to a crowd of women dancing on a dining table, the music playing loud, a bunch of people around the bar, all well lit by the orange haze of dimly lit lights. The drinks are strong and inexpensive. Gin and Tonic? Three bucks. Beers? Less than that. They also have a nice back deck "under the bridge" that doubles as the smoking lounge. One person mentioned: "The funny thing about this place is it's like a vortex of fun. You never know who you are going to run into there, there is a great mix of locals and some visitors too, they have great tunes, prime rib as big as your head for CHEAP and it's just plain fun. " The people were friendly, especially Mary Todd, who you can find on either side of the bar or on the tables dancing with locals and tourists alike.
