Everything you want in a "dive bar". Not too divey, just a great bar, fun bartender who is to the point and makes a perfect White Russian. Try their famous yucca lemon drink, it's a refreshing buzz! Fantastic. I told my husband I was in the mood for a burger and he suggested swinging into a bar for some food to go. This place was across from our hotel and looked decent so I stopped in and ordered a cheeseburger for myself and a BLT for him. The person who took my order was super friendly and helpful, and food was ready fairly quickly. We took our food back to the hotel and dug in and it was absolutely delicious. This place is great. Beer snobs beware: there are like two beers on tap, a hefe and bud light. Uhhhh, I'll take the hefe ;) The server with the blonde asymmetric haircut is a GEM who made a lemonade out of lemons and simple syrup for my boyfriend when she could have just said no, we don't have lemonade. (It was damn good as well!!) The Buschman burger is YUMMY and The Workers Burger which my boyfriend had was towering full of egg and ham, daaang. The fries make your fingers look microscopic! Well Yelp let me down. I was in Naselle with my boyfriend for his Bday and we went here for a meal. Heard the bloddy mary's were good...They were yucky and small! The omelet was okish. His burger was okish. The place tho was disturbingly dirty. im not sure i should have eaten food from it...but i was living dangerously that week. Dropped by the Workers as it was just a block from our hotel and I really liked the husky gentleman mudflap logo. No frills pub, good food and good service. You won't find any bullsh1t here, just a place to kick back with food and cold drinks. Huge dog friendly yard out the back, wish we would have known sooner as we'd just spent hours trying to find somewhere "dog friendly" that wasn't just a plastic table in the rain. I was drawn to the salty character of the building and fell in love with the large portions of yummy food, generous local company and a sweet doggie friendly fire pit patio. They must be going thru some growing pains. Friday night 7pm the place was packed. Two seats left at the bar. One bartender/server and one cook. Needless to say they could not keep up although they tried, apologizing many times. It was clearly not their fault. Some dude sitting next to me commented on how nice the owner is, and what great person she is and that she was just there visiting with him before she went home. Being an out of town guest I didn't want to debate with the local the difference between being a good person and knowing how to run a restaurant. Best burger i have had in quite some time and good local brews on draft. Adequately staffed, I see this place as being a success. Time will tell. read more

came into town kind of on the late side, and needed some place close to the holiday inn. really didnt feel like driving and if i could walk it so much the better. i stopped by the front desk and they recommended the place. walked over and really enjoyed the place. they do have an interesting menu, but what looked good and sounded good was breakfast, and a cup of chili. had both, and they were great. the bartender, wish i remembered her name, was the cook as well. she did a terrific job. washed it all down with a rye on the rocks. i think, no, damnit---i NEED to go back here next time i am in town. and i will. now all i need to do is to dig up her name and make sure she is working there when i do come by. read more

I chose this place because I love a dive tavern, however neither the service nor the food good. The bartender is also the cook at least on most days and nights - this would be the owners fault not the servers. Even though there were only a handful of people there, he had to (halfheartedly) keep washing his hands to go back to the kitchen while new customers had to wait for a drink. My Ahi Tuna Ruben was horrible, dry, WAY overcooked, barely any sauerkraut, and the toast was almost burnt. It also had a perfume-like taste to it. My friend's steak and tots weren't bad, so I ate some of that. When the bartender asked if I wanted a to-go box I declined as I had eaten part of it which is why I chose not to complain. As Judge Judy would say - "You ate the steak!" He actually asked me several times what was wrong with it as it was a new menu item, so finally I told him. He did offer to discount the sandwich, so I still left him a decent tip. Definitely not going back. read more

But then the bartender/cook went out back to smoke and left the back door open with two others (one who was apparently the bartender's superior), probably to keep an eye on the bar, and the place quickly filled up with cigarette smoke. CASH ONLY - Be Prepared Stopped by this joint for some brunch / lunch on my way home from the Oregon Coast. I chose this place because I was hungry, and it had great reviews and photos on yelp. I should have taken photos of our food, but I was hungry, so there's that. All of our food was delicious, The BLT, the Burger Dip, and the Cheeseburger. The Cheesburger was huge and hand made, with fresh cut French fries that were amazing! The BLT had perfectly sliced tomatoes, plenty of crispy bacon and crunchy lettuce. The Burger Dip looked and smelled amazing. Service was great. My only complaint would be that this place is cash only, and the ATM inside wasn't working so I did have to walk a few blocks down the street to the ATM. read more

My Husband and I attempted to eat at Workers Tavern on August 8th, we walked up to the bar counter and waited for about 5 minutes, no one came to greet us or take our order, so we left. August 15th we were fishing all day in the Columbian, we got to our car and there was a flyer for Workers Tavern, "The largest outdoor eating area in Astoria". They had a seafood bucket special advertised as well. The flyers were on all the cars and trucks in the Marina parking lot. I would say about 500 cars were tagged. We made the decision to go to Workers Tavern with our brother and sister in law one more time. We arrived at 5:40 PM Saturday night. We ordered with no problem, drinks and the sea food bucket. We were informed the buckets would not be available until after 6:00 PM, we said no problem we would have drinks and wait. We went to the outdoor area to wait, there is only 3 tables to sit at for dining. We were the second group to show up, the other group had 6 people. About 6:20 we were approached by a staff member asking if we still wanted our buckets, we said yes. I got up and went inside and spoke to the bartender that took our order. She said our buckets were on order. As we waited, we watched several couples that came in after we did get served dinner. One of the couples had been served a seafood bucket. They came in 30 minutes after we did. Our first seafood bucket was brought to the table at 7:10 (we ordered at 5:40) order was supposed to be in order at 6:00. We asked where the other bucket was, and the bar tender said give us 5 minutes and it will be out. We waited another 20 minutes and the second bucket never arrived. I go up to speak with the bar tender who took our order, first she was friendly and apologetic then she became irritated with me as I said our group should have been served together or she should have brought the other bucket within the next five minutes she had told us. The owner came over to speak with me, she told me I was wasting her bartenders time, she told me, and I quote, We are a bar NOT a restaurant. She also told me if we did not want the bucket other customers did. This place has no customer service accountability. The owner could care less if you visit her establishment or not. Let me take you back to the flyers, they placed about 500 flyers out and only have 16 buckets to sell. I went inside to pay my tab out, I didn't want to use the electronic charge and asked for a paper receipt, a different bartender said we don't have a receipt, I said I didn't want to use the electronic machine. He said fine and shouted NO TIP and cashed me out. I said loudly, that is not what I wanted, and threw $10.00 on the counter and walked out. The fact that he decided I did not want to leave a tip was the tipping point for this review. The bartenders have no control over how an owner runs their business and should not be punished for incompetence. If we had to rate this place for service, friendliness or overall, anything it would get a -F. By the way, if you do not feel like wearing a mask, go there. I would recommend staying away from this place. read more

So disappointed. Such a cool building with, unfortunately, very tacky, cheap decor. Such a tragedy that the owner can't see the jewel she has, but she did post a huge picture and write-up about herself, so maybe she thinks that's more of a draw than the rich history. Two of the five taps were dry, and those taps happen to be Astoria breweries, so I'm confused why they wouldn't have planned better. Nachos with canned cheese in a paper tray isn't the kind of pub grub I would have thought anyone would dare serve. Won't be back...the food/drinks (including slushee machines...what the heck?) were horrendous, and the rope lights, dirty dishes on display, and the cheesy spaghetti bar (how does this pass inspection?) were just too shockingly gross. This is NOT a wine bar. This is NOT a brew pub. This is NOT a fancy restaurant. This is NOT a trendy cafe serving organic tofu and sprout shakes. The bottles of wine behind the bar have probably been open for a year, and taste like it. Your have your choice of tap beers. Bud and Bud Light. I'm pretty sure that's what is in all the bottles as well. The locals are LOCAL, and they know you aren't. So don't try to own the place or attempt to tell them how to make it better. You'll probably end up getting your butt kicked. The name actually says what it is. It's a worker's bar and grill. What you will get: Cheap drinks, a friendly bartender and ONE HELL OF A CUT OF PRIME RIB. That's all there is to the place, unless you want to read the bar graffiti. Nothing else to say! read more

A friend and I staying in Astoria for the night stumbled into Mary Todd's on a Sunday evening. We walked in right in the middle of a Bingo game, and everyone turned to stare. My friend and I looked at each other, feeling like intruders "Do we leave?" we asked each other with our eyes. A second later, everyone shouted to come on in, and they cleared 2 spots for us at the bar. The people were so friendly and so fun and the drinks were... well, they were drinks, and the Bingo was sooooo much fun I want to play allthetimeforever and we didn't eat (not a whole lotta vegan options here) but I just love this place so so much. The people were great, the vibe was great, everything was great. I will come back here every time I'm back in Astoria. Hopefully next time will be on a Sunday so I can play at Bingo again. I have been to...a LOT of bars. This is my favorite bar in Oregon, hands down. Every time I'm in town there's always a really fun experience or encounter to be had within this storied old room. Most importantly, the staff is incredibly friendly (hats off to our bartender/cook/server last visit who not only juggled all his jobs but gave us a free album of our choice on the jukebox and only teased us a little when my friend insisted on Grand Funk Railroad). On my first visit, my now-husband and I spent about two hours chatting with Ms. Todd herself. Memorable! People are all about the prime rib on the weekends; it's tasty but way too much for a moderate-eater like me; I dig the patty melt. Drinks are very strong; be forewarned. This is a must-visit if you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty. read more

We got a rental for my birthday weekend which happened to be behind the Workers Tavern. We stopped in for a drink after getting settled in and are in love with the place, good local beers, the Bloody Mary with the local infused jalapeño vodka was also particularly good. Fries were crisp and the turkey club came with thick cut breast meat and perfectly cut bacon, ranch, fry sauce and ketchup on the table. Was just there for my birthday. Andy is an amazing lad who makes and serves a mean drink, as well as a Prime Rib Feast fit for a king. Mary's still is hands down the best prime rib dinner deal in the area. 20 bucks for a huge portion, flavoured well, with sides. I still couldn't finish it, and I can put away food when hungry. Chicken Fried Steak looked really damn good too. Nice menu selection with decent prices. Not foofy, but not of sub-par quality either. Great crowd for the most part (creeper, drunk fishermen will need to be put in check now and then...but no biggie). Nice mix of working folks, retired folks, folks of all ages, sad folks, and a few sexy folks. Great tunes on the jukebox as well. This is a nice local's neighbourhood pub. No frills, no BS.....just a decent place to spend a few bucks, have some good food, meet some nice people, dance, and get jarred on your birthday. Damn, each year gets a wee bit harder. I swear Andy adds more booze to my drinks each year to make me hungover the following day. I still love him though... we'd make ugly children together, and I'd be a gazillion pounds from all of the prime rib, as well as an alcoholic, hence why we must exist apart..... sigh.... I really wanted to like this place and maybe I still do. To be honest, if it wasn't for Yelp there is no way in hell I would have stopped here to eat. Calling it a dive bar is being kind to the interior but then again that's part of its charm. We ate here on the 4th of July. Service was slower than a slug on a hot salted sidewalk but she was friendly enough and it was a holiday after all so I don't hold it against her. I'm not sure if you can eat outside (I doubt you'd get any kind of service out there) but it appears they have a pretty cool seating area out back. Anyway, the gf had a hamburger which looked pretty damn good. I had the prime rib which was also good. I wouldn't say it was a great value but it was flavorful and cooked to order. Frankly, I'd give this place higher rating except both of us came down with a mild case of food poisoning (mine was more mild than the gf). I must be in a fantastic fucking mood because I'm still willing to give this place another shot but after a night spent vomiting I doubt I can convince the gf to give it another whirl. Oh my... We took a jaunt up the coast and what a beautiful city Astoria is! So much history, a lot of fun stuff to do! Ended up in a hotel across the street and hit Mary Todd's across the street! Great friendly service, and the best burger I have ever eaten! Fresh local beef, if you like bacon, fresh thick.. local and delicious.. great veggies and homemade potato salad n fries so delicious! This place was recommended to my by a fellow Navy guy that had been here before. It's very much a blue collar atmosphere but you are made to instantly feel welcome. There is a giant bar inside with LCD TV for sports, small dining area, and large outdoor patio. I ordered the "Cannery Burger" and it was enormous. And came with a heaping helping of home fries. I'm a big guy and can put away some food. This place's portions are massive. On every plate I saw them bring out!! Highly recommended. Don't let the looks deceive you (it is in an older building). Travis behind the bar made our night. He's got a great personality which led to many laughs. We also ordered some food and he ended up being the cook too. Our burgers were delicious along with the dirty fries we had. Travis told us that they were getting ready to light the fire pit and that we should check it out after our dinner. We headed out to the pit and ended up hanging out there for a few hours. The outdoor area is huge for a bar and spread out. I just wish we had this place back in Portland. They kept the fire going till the end. We had a great time. Travis said he's working tomorrow night so we will be heading back for more. My mother in law took us here for their local drink- "Yucca" ....she lives in town and joked around about how she was going to take us to a REAL classy bar. LOL! Definitely a dive & local bar. The bartender was really nice! So, I watched her make this drink. I swear it was 99% vodka. A bit of simple syrup and a bunch of lemon juice. It goes in a mason jar w/a lid and you shake it until it's extremely cold and frosty. So, I was drinking said drink and not getting drunk at all. I was actually upset because I wasn't even buzzed. I got up and almost fell over. I was suddenly extremely drunk, lol. Apparently the food is good...cheap prime rib (18 dollars for a huge plate) and it was just an all around cool place. Mary's is an old dive bar, nestled under the PCSB bridge. Walking inside was a step in time... Old-skool, but intriguing. I must say, I am a nut over great bar food and this place tops my charts. I had an awesome medium rare ribeye steak with garlic toast and onion rings- all of which, I delightfully (laughing, smiles and winks included) made into a couple open-faced sandwiches... very rustic, but epic food... About 6 months ago I walked into this place just to get out of the house. I walked in, sat down, and the bartender didn't want to serve me, she said she thought I was drunk. How is that possible when I just sat down? Why? I asked her, and she literally said she thought my eyes looked strange. SERIOUSLY? Can I blow a 0 for you, or are you just running around with the wrong idea? After this place left the hands of Mary Todd, it lost all of the charm that was ever there. It used to feel like a community, now it just feels depressing. I'm never going back there so vehemently, I declined 2 dates to avoid that place. How humiliating. I don't even drink liquor, I just wanted conversation, but not with someone who starts it off by telling me my eyes are weird. Yes, that's called being lonely....holy moly. **Facepalm** Update in response to a comment. The new staff IS doing a beautiful job keeping the streets of Astoria safer.
