Knowledgeable and Trustworthy!…read more I have a 15+ year old refrigerator that neither the refrigerator or freezer were working. Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.

My 3-year-old Samsung refrigerator stopped cooling because the doors were inadvertently left open…read more I called Kelly, and he arrived within the scheduled window. He gave me a clear diagnosis and explained that the evaporator coils or air vents become blocked by a solid mass of ice, preventing cold air from circulating. He used a handheld steamer to quickly and safely melt away the ice blocking the evaporator coils and internal vents; however, it didn't work. He later instructed me to unplug the refrigerator, leave the doors open for 24 hours, then turn it back on the next day for 12 hours. I was happy to see my refrigerator fixed and cooling again. I recommend Kelly for your appliance repair.

Why 5 stars? I popped on Yelped, searched appliance repair, and it was very obvious that I should reach out to KrisKelly first, based on the great reviews. I submitted a request-a-quote on Yelp on a Sunday afternoon, and heard back Monday morning. By Thursday, there was someone at my house and my dryer was fixed within about half an hour. The service guy even gave me some great tips on maintaining my washer, dryer and other appliances for the future. It sucks to need an appliance repaired, but when you can get the problem resolved as quickly and as pain free as possible, it's such a relief. That's exactly what happened here. This will definitely be my first call next time it happens (hopefully not for many years).

I rarely post negative reviews, but consumers need to be aware of my experience with Ultrafix…read moreAppliance Repair. I contacted Ultrafix to repair my undercounter ice maker. The technician pulled the unit out from under the counter, traced the drain hose, and inspected the line during his assessment. Afterward, I was informed that an additional $200 would be added to the original quoted repair cost for a replacement part. When the part arrived, the technician attempted to modify it to fit. During the process, he broke the part and then declared it defective. Once the repair was completed, he pushed the ice maker back into place and left. What I later discovered was that the drain hose had never been reconnected. As a result, water drained directly into my cabinets and onto my floors, causing extensive damage. When I contacted the company, the immediate response was, "He didn't touch the plumbing," despite the fact that I personally witnessed the technician working underneath the counter and handling the drain line. The company wanted to send the same technician back out, but by then a licensed plumber had already identified the issue immediately -- the drain hose was disconnected. When the technician returned, I informed him that he had failed to reconnect the hose after the repair. He then went under the cabinet and reconnected it himself, while still insisting, "I didn't touch the plumbing" although I watched him with my own eyes. What started as approximately a $500 appliance repair has now resulted in more than $6,000 in water damage repairs. My advice: do your research beyond the surface-level reviews. A company may appear reputable online, but customer experiences can tell a very different story. I was also disappointed to learn that they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau, read the alerts and complaints listed. Consumers deserve accountability, professionalism, and honesty -- especially when costly damage occurs in their homes.
