I agree with Rob, they do have some decent wine selection at a very reasonable price... I just happened to go there because I had coupons... I bought some wines while there and since I needed some forks and it was on sale, picked some up... the last time I was there, I picked up some dinner plates, I love them and still use them.... As for food... if it's asian, I'll go to the local asian stores... otherwise, I haven't really bought any food items... but for sure, I'll be back to buy some more wines down the road.. read more

Be sure to give yourself at least an hour in this store! Vino- There is a decent selection of wines here. Nothing too fancy- I didn't see any bottles over $50. Furniture- Who needs ikea when you can spend just a little bit more for real furniture? Granted, selection is a bit limited, but if you're looking for leather chairs, dining tables, hutches, and desks? Please check out this place. Also, their furniture is 25% off if you join their club, which is free, and the e-mails aren't going to flood your mailbox. Food- surely, it is a world market. There is a variety of foods from all over. I'm not a gourmet chef who can cook anything from everywhere, so I couldn't tell you if they have everything you need to prepare an eclectic Indian dish, but I did see an aisle of spices. Kitchen- if you're into decently-priced tableware, you've hit the jackpot in this store. From serving plates, decanters, water pitchers, salad bowls to bake-to-table dishes, simple place mats, you'll surely find something (in my case, many things) to walk out of the store with. Knicknacks- Lots of baskets, ornaments, candles, bath products, scarves, jewelry. Are you looking for christmas gift ideas? Cost Plus World Market fills a niche selling cheap wines, interesting decor, and lots of exotic and ethnic foods. It's a one-stop shop for a cocktail party if you want an assortment of quirky snacks, the owl-shaped bowls to put them in, several blown glass goblets and the French wine with a pun name. I also assemble housewarming and hostess presents from the shelves of the housewares section. Pulling together a gift basket takes no time at all with Italian coffee cups, attractive cutlery, French soaps, or 80s vintage toys for the younger at heart. I get my greatest mileage in the food and beverage section. Cost Plus carries brands found elsewhere, from Stash Teas to Kindersurprise and Vosges chocolate, a Chicago-based brand. Sometimes I find the rarer flavours or varieties of familiar items here, like the coveted strawberry Ritter Sport, and stocking up while using discount coupons can lead to serious savings over the grocery store. Their bulk spices can be a real winner too if you need quantity at an affordable price, and the nearest Penzey's might be a drive. Sure, small ethnic grocery stores carry much of this stuff and the British/European items are available cheaper in Windsor. But you don't have to deal with the tunnel to put together a gift basket. I cannot stress enough: get into the rewards program for instant savings. Paying full price at Cost Plus is pure madness. Their loyalty program will spam you with a lot of emails, which takes a click to unsubscribe from. The savings -- 20% to 40% -- are well worth the trouble and no card is necessary. The furniture section includes seating and tables primarily in a mid-range price spectrum: think Pier One with a cultural spin. Upholstered items come in very seasonal colours. Skip the trends if you want something lasting and go for the pillows, placemats, and other brightly patterned textiles that brighten up any room. Quality can vary as well as price, but aggressive use of savings coupons can pare cost right down for decor. The clearance at season's end allow for great deals, especially for sturdy wood benches, stools, and very pretty tables. On the last trip through, we nearly walked out with upholstered wingback stools -- if only they'd been the right shade of green to match our decor. read more

I love this location of World Market because it is never crowded and seasonal or limited-time products don't sell out right away. However, customer service could be better. I come here around once a month; This is my go-to place to buy tea (Yorkshire Gold), and for wine. They have an outstanding selection of German, Italian, and some Michigan wines as well. They carry stuff from other states too, if your tastes run that way. Seriously, they carry a large selection of wine from nearly everywhere that makes it! I always check out the unique varieties of candies, snacks, spices, coffee, etc... They stock international brands that you aren't likely to anywhere else. They also have some great furniture, lamps, and rugs. Also an assortment of very eclectic decorations for just about every room, and outdoors as well. They have a good selection of kitchen accessories- and barbecue- and some unique dishes and tableware. I've bought chopstick sets, enamel tea pots, and a variety of glassware. This is a must visit for Easter, Halloween, Christmas, and for birthday shopping also. If you haven't been to World Market, you need to go. Set aside at least an hour; it doesn't seem like the store is that big, but it will take you that long to see all the great stuff! read more

Amazing experience! A newbie to Cost Plus World Market and a guest to Ann Arbor visiting from out of town, I was amazed at the wonderful experience I had. Visiting on Black Friday could have been a nightmare, but between the coupons, friendly staff, gingerbread snaps and coffee (YUM), the beautiful and fun products from around the world, and winning the $50 find-the-bell promotion (thanks to my 10 yo), we had a blast! For food & household stuff: Trader Joe's is cheaper. So are most grocery stores. The funny little imports are mainly available elswhere. Very cheap wine, can't guess quality. For plates, cups, bowls, serving dishes... : some nice buys. For furniture: Looks pretty shoddy. Pier 1 might be a better choice -- I would definitely check the alternatives. But if you like funny little nick-nacks or party favors storage baskets or whatever you might find something. I bought a stretchy frog once and a 4-year-old friend tore its leg off almost immediately, so just buy the toys for yourself! Bottom line: not a really good use of time to shop here. read more

I had my heart set on a patio couch but every time I went to purchase it online, they had run out of inventory. Today was my lucky day as the Ann Arbor store had one in stock! I arrived 90 minutes later and was disappointed to see that it was an already assembled floor model but my worries lasted only a few minutes as the general manager and an associate disassembled it in a jiffy, loaded the car up and gave me a discount for my "troubles". I literally could not be happier and wanted to hug them but observed social distancing rules! The store was spotless and I wanted to stay and browse but had to head back! LOVED it in here. They had a little bit of everything...Wine, rugs, baskets, jewelry, bath stuff, candles, food, kitchenware, patio furniture...I think we spent about an hour in the store. We signed up for e-mails and received 10% off our purchase. Another 10% was e-mailed instantly. I even found bacon jerky here for the boyfriend, as well as a nicely sized bottle of ground ginger for $3 (it's usually about that much for a quarter of that size). read more

We visit the Ann Arbor store from Canada. Each time we come we are so pleased with the exceptional customer service from everyone. I purchased a table online, and instead of allowing me to come all the way into the store to discover that it was broken, the manager Tim called me, told me that it was damaged, refunded my money, and promised a discount if I reordered it online. Food section is good for non-boring, super awesome gift basket/stocking stuffer type things. Cost Plus carries the same home decor stuff as some thinks-it's-fancy-schmancy place like Pier One but costs way less. I got a 6x9 natural jute rug for 150 dollars and saw an almost identical one at Pottery Barn for almost 100 dollars more. 8-) read more

Just discovered World Market a week ago and LOVE this place. I normally hate furniture shopping because I never find anything I like that I can afford. The first time I walked into World Market I wanted more pieces than I could take home in one trip. Sale prices are comparable to IKEA prices but the pieces are incomparable in quality. Really interesting designs, solid wood and incredible attention to detail. Plus you can combine sales with coupons for screaming deals. And so far there always seems to be a sale or a coupon or both. Staff is funny, friendly and very helpful. Basically, it's my favorite store of all time. Yes, I'm a real customer and don't know anyone who works here. It's just that it changed my life and how many stores can you say that about. read more

The selection is okay and it's a good one stop shop type of place but I'd say it's not great unless you like spending more money than you have to. I love the fake flowers and some grocery items are fun but other grocery stores and IKEA have better prices on the same or similar items. The layout is easy to figure out, but if I didn't live within walking distance I wouldn't go there because that section of State Street is awful to navigate and it's just not worth the trip. I don't hate it but I don't love it. They do have cute coffee mugs at great prices, and they have a good wine selection. I have friends who love Cost Plus World Market so I cant fully knock it because it could just be a combination of my budget as well as my tastes. read more

I can't say enough good things about this store. I just moved to Ann Arbor, and almost all of my furniture (except for a bed frame and dresser) is from Cost Plus. All of the staff at this location were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Because I was buying so much, I needed a lot of help, and they were happy to oblige. I wanted to see a rug I was interested in next to the couch I had purchased already, so they pulled the rug out from under a pile of rugs and carried it over to the couch. I decided I wanted a mirror but couldn't come get it until later, so they found it in the back and held it for me until that night. I was buying art and wanted to make sure the one on the floor wasn't damaged, so they pulled down the one that was way up high. They explained to me my various options for coupons and how to get the most out of them, and rang up multiple orders so that I could apply the coupon to the regular priced/regular sale items and have the already couponed furniture on a separate purchase and not interfere with the other coupon. I've spent too much of the past few days in this store, but I am SO happy with how my apartment is turning out thanks to Cost Plus! And while this store isn't the absolute cheapest you can go, the prices are fairly comparable to Ikea or Wayfair, but look and feel much higher quality. read more

The prices have gotten a bit on the high side. But like I said, there are some things here that are difficult to find. The discounts on after-Christmas items was great! I agree with Mae for most of the items, except the wine. World Market is actually a pretty good place to get wine. There's a pretty small selection for each varietal, but there are usually pretty good deals on decent quality wines. If you need a couple bottles for a party or wine tasting, it would a good place to stop. For anything else I'm not entirely sure, but things do seem a bit pricy/shoddy, so shop at your own risk. read more

Are those vintage polyester pillows made of the same synthetic blend as the cover of a DC aircraft engine? Yup! Who cares if those classic scarves are laced with antimony. I shop at Cost Plus for cheap costume jewelry, wine and "specialty" snacks. Could I shop at a local chain and find the same products? Yes, but it wouldn't be the same as the bazaar feel Cost Plus manages to reproduce in each of its chains. I also like to watch the wannabe bohemian baby boomers who frequent this place hoping to find some embodiment of their past in a cheap piece of furniture or confection. Some of the sales clerks are quite snooty, especially towards foreigners and minorities. I always chuckle to myself considering their retail wages are quite inferior compared to the salaries of their minority patrons. read more

This happens to be my very first Yelp review, and for good reason. As I mulled over which chocolate snack to purchase, a store employee suddenly appears and has in his hands free samples of the two different chocolates that I was actually considering. He then offered feedback, including comments from other customers on which were the best sellers and why. Together with other employees, everyone at the store was super courteous as they answered all of our numerous questions with a smile. And as our order became a bit larger, they noted that they would willingly ship us whatever we would like shipped! There is more to this awesome experience as well but let me just say that it was the best retail experience I have ever received, and hence, my first Yelp review! I LUV this store. Whenever I need to find a unique gift, want to find different decor for my house, I go here. I have been looking for a new shower curtain for a few months. Could not find anything anywhere. I found everything from a shower curtain, towels, rugs and accessories. Plus a new spring table runner!! Great store, always clean and easy to find everything. Beware of shopping for gifts at World Market. If you forget to get a gift receipt, then they cannot give you one later. They say you don't need a gift receipt because products can be returned for store credit even without a receipt. So no problem supposedly. Even worse, If you buy a gift for a friend for $10.50 with $10 reward points that you have earned and get a gift receipt; then the store credit for your friend will be 50 cents instead of $10.50. Your friend is going to think you are a cheapskate. So no matter what they tell you in the store at the time of purchase, your friend cannot even exchange for another item of the same value. It is like you never shopped at World Market and put your phone number into the machine to earn your points. I have heard of this in only one other store. Old Navy had the same problem maybe ten years ago with their Navy Bucks and had a class action suit. I got $50 in store credit as a result of the lawsuit. Not sure how much it cost them to resolve. Legally, if you earn points, then it is not a coupon, it is supposed to be reissued as points or convert to store credit. Coupons are different than points. Points maintain value. Coupons expire. So BEWARE. I would never have expected such poor customer service from World Market. I have been shopping there for years and years, not knowing that my friends were being ripped off if they tried to return a gift. It may be a good store to buy stuff for yourself, but I guess not to buy gifts. I normally buy at least $50 to $100 in Christmas gifts there, but not this year. read more
