My friend and I stopped by Wow Sushi for dinner this past Thursday since it was a convenient location for both of us. I haven't been to Wow Sushi in over a decade (!!) but I'm glad I was able to try it again. I do think the salmon quality here is better than most sushi restaurants in this area and would recommend this sushi spot. One thing I didn't like was how pungent or strong the soy sauce was. I would barely dip my sushi in the soy sauce and the whole bite would be too much. YELLOWTAIL SCALLION ROLL - 5.50 This comes with six pieces of yellowtail & scallion maki - a true staple. The yellowtail was fresh and it's a typical yellowtail & scallion roll. The pricing is cheaper compared to other restaurants, so I'd definitely recommend. SUSHI SASHIMI BOX - 17.95 This comes with a miso soup, a spicy tuna roll (I subbed it for a salmon roll), Wow salad, four nigiris and a variety of sashimi. For the amount of food I got, this was pretty worth it. The miso soup was passable but nothing worth remembering -- good appetizer, I guess. The salmon maki was good because the salmon was fresh and had an ample amount of fat that made each bite worth smiling about. The Wow salad had a nice sauce, but similar to the soy sauce, it was too strong and too much. I couldn't finish my entire salad because it was way too saucy. The nigiris were fine, and I particularly enjoyed the salmon and red snapper. I wasn't a huge fan of the tuna or shrimp here. Similarly to the sashimi, I really enjoyed the salmon cuts, red snapper and squid, but the others, not too much. Some hits and misses, but I'll know for next time. This was hands down the BEST sushi experience I've had in decades! I was nearly resigned to the opinion that there were no longer any sushi restaurants that strived to serve extra quality fish, but thankfully that thought has been erased from my mind! What I grew up with were legendary restaurants like Nippon Ki, New Seoul Garden, (90s) Little Tree, but since those days my sushi experiences have been less than stellar. The ambience was pleasant. I hate going to places with fluorescent lighting, white walls, metal chairs/tables, and the like, so indeed this was a 'cozy' place! What I enjoy isn't like too many, as when I go for sushi I only go for fish. The mackerel is the best in town, the eel reminded my of my childhood, and the tuna/salmon were so delectable! The cucumber salad that was complementary was very good and sweet, and the goyza appetizer was very tasty. Our server was very nice, and the food came out quickly. No issues whatsoever! read more

My favorites from here are the Spicy Tuna, Sexy Roll, Chris Roll, and the seaweed salad. Located in a strip center right next to Orange Theory Fitness, Wow Sushi is a great little find. While searching for sushi near me I found this place after searching online for another sushi bar seeing as the restaurant I normally go to was closed today. This cozy little spot has just enough seating, plenty of outdoor parking, and friendly staff. The interior of the space is calm and relaxing with yellow walls and pictures of sushi posted all throughout the space. I ordered the California Roll and a side of Edamame. On multiple occasions I've heard people audibly say "what in the hell are they playing." I've never eaten food so fast so as to not be subjected to what has to be a violation of the Geneva convention. It wasn't always this way. Ahh Wow, it was my favorite place when I lived in Troy but I don't live very close anymore. Today I met my brother there for lunch and it was just as delicious and perfect as I remember. The lunch combos are a great value, great sushi and bento box options for $15 or less. I appreciate that their tempura rolls are not overly fried and greasy like some other local places. Dining in at lunch time also includes cucumber salad and miso soup. Both delicious, although I noticed the cucumber salad no longer has a crab stick on top. There are also 4 rolls every month that are 20 percent off and I tried the "Andrea roll" which has raw salmon and lemon slices on top, ummm WOW living up to its name as usual. So fresh and delicious. We also had the s9 and s12 combos which include rock n roll rolls, American dream rolls, and a couple other things. My carry outs in the past have always held up well and taste great. WOW, updating this review about a decade later to give them all the stars (but will add that I haven't gone back to dine in person). Whenever I'm back in the area, we always get takeout from here -- more than once. My parents also get takeout a few times a month. After years of ordering and trying all their different rolls, my favorite thing is the sushi sashimi box. At $16, it seems like a steal these days, offering a little bit of everything: salad, sashimi, sushi and a spicy tuna roll. Fresh fish, great varying flavors in the rolls and awesome value. Sushi is usually good but after spending $50 on a carry out for a few rolls and some salad I go to my destination and as we begin to eat we find a long hair wrapped inside the rock and roll sushi. We were immediately disgusted and lost our appetite, I called the restaurant to let them know what happened and they asked if I wanted to go pick up a new roll, I told them I would be by the next to day to pick up my money because I was 35 minutes away and honestly I had zero desire on driving to pick up more hairy sushi. The man stated that was fine. I asked my sister to pick up the money the next day since she lives near the area and when she arrived they asked her for a picture of the hair in the sushi then told her she can either get a refund for 1 roll or a 20$ gift certificate. We ate NONE of the sushi because nobody finishes eating their meal after finding hair in it, especially not in this pandemic. The service and quality is disturbing, so yourself a favor and stay away! Although most people (including us) in this area consider Noble Fish the Gold Standard when it comes to Sushi, we are always up to trying new Sushi Restaurants, you know, for science! Since Wow Sushi has very respectable ratings, we needed to try it and today was the day. Reviewing the lunch menu and taking into account that Sushi is in the name of this restaurant, we ordered water and Green Tea and continued to review the menu. We eventually decided on S6 Sushi-Sashimi Bento Box for me and S8 Unagi Don Lunch with Brown Rice. We also ordered Gyoza for an Appetizer. Upon tasting the tea, it had little flavor; my wife being a Green Tea Connoisseur, she gets her initial opinion about a new restaurant by how well they brew their tea. The Gyoza was the next to show up and things were looking up. They were steamed but after a quick pan frying and served with a spicy dipping sauce and tasted great! My Sushi-Sashimi was good but I have had better, and I'm not just talking about Noble Fish! It was the fairly normal Bento Box with Ginger Dressing on the Salad, pieces of Nigiri Sushi, a couple pieces of Spicy Tuna Roll, a Fried Shumai, Seaweed Pickles, and Assorted Sashimi. Although mine came with a Salad, my wife did not get any Salad and neither of us were served any Miso Soup as noted on the lunch menu. To be perfectly honest, I guess we had higher expectations. This was particularly true for my wife's Unagi Don. First, the extra charge for Brown Rice was higher than most other places we have been to. And some do not add any additional charge. And the texture was dry as if it had been sitting out for a while. On top of that, the amount of Unagi was noticeably less than that in the menu picture and included some of the type of pickles normally used for Curry Rice only. And we've never seen Wasabi used with Unagi Don! All things considered, aside from a few bright spots like the Gyoza and decent service, we were disappointed. I didn't realize how good I had it back then. This is THE best sushi. Wow Sushi set my sushi standards so high. No other sushi compares. I have introduced three boyfriends to Wow Sushi. I once met a random person in another state who was from Troy too -- I couldn't help it - the very first thing out of my mouth was "do you like sushi? Because I have a recommendation for you".
