Wrenchrite is a wonderful alternative to Premier in Branford. I have two Subarus and they both go there. There are pros and cons for each I guess. Premier has customer courtesy cars and several staff. Of course it's a dealership so you will pay an a lot more. At Premier, they charge $200 just to look at your car for anything other than routine maintenance (even for warrantee service). I know they are highly rated, but that just makes me not want to go there. The folks at wrench rite are super knowledgeable about my Subarus, charge what I would consider to be a fair price over Premier. It's a family business who I'd rather give my money to anyway. It's a smaller shop with a tight parking lot. Hopefully they can expand it someday. read more

Wrenchrite was wonderful. I had a small issue, which was the latch on my hood not latching. I made an appointment, pulled in, they identified my problem before I even go into the garage and oiled the latch on the spot. I'm on my second Subaru and I've always taken my cars to these guys for repairs. Always honest and always on time. There's been a couple of times that I've taken my car in(for what I thought were major problems) only for these guys to figure out the fix was simple. They could have easily charged me hundreds of dollars for repairs I didn't need. This type of honestly is invaluable. Highly recommended. Have had my car serviced here for defective head gasket a few years ago on my 2010 subaru forester no problems. I recently had transmission maintenance and other maintenance done. This company is professional, expedient and just plain honest. I had noticed my steering wheel seemed "sloppy" but thought it was normal and non reparable so i didn't mention it. Vehicle was towed into this Facility on Thursday Jan. 7th, 2021, Before towing the vehicle to the repair shop I alerted them exactly of what needed to be fixed therefore no diagnosis was needed.. After a few days I received a call from the dealership alerting me that they were looking into my issue.. At this time no concent was given to begin repairing the car and no prices were agreed upon with the shop. I then receive a call telling me my car was repaired again with no authorization from me.. So I then proceed to ask the price for this repair and labor.. I was adviced that the part and labor would run be $50 for the part needed to repair the car and $365 for the labor .. With me not having knowledge on vehicle repairs I paid in cash for the repair and then consulted with my local ASE Certified Master Tech. I told him that the price was too high and he then agreed stating a job like that would only take 1 and a half hours.. After reaching back out to the repair shop they agreed to give me back $75 towards the labor cost.. I then asked to see a detailed print out of the supposed invoice and the owner of the shop refused to give stating "I am too busy, I don't get paid for how fast I do my work I get paid what the average time is" at this point the owner then goes onto say that he can give me a full refund and put my car back into the state it was in "In less than an hour" if I wanted.. I declined this offer telling him I just wanted an honest list of the work and labor hours put into my car... DMV complaint filed read more

I manage a dealership in Branford (Precision Motor Cars) and brought a 2010 Forester to Joel to have a complete timing belt service done because there was know record on the car-fax report of it ever being done. The car had 119k on it and did not what to take a chance of it breaking ! Joel call me up later that day to tell me someone just replace the belt , water pump , pulleys , tensioner !! Terrible experience. Would NOT recommend. I brought my car in to be fixed and received one call from Joel, the owner, telling me he didn't know what the problem was. I explained briefly that it felt like an issue I'd had before. He hung up to continue to investigate. Next call was to say the car was ready and that it would be nearly $400. No call to tell me what the issue was, or to ask permission to move forward...just the assumption that doing a service that expensive without my permission was what I wanted. Oh and on top of this, the work they did didn't fix the problem. I had to drive all the way home (was visiting CT) and get my mechanic to do the work that would solve the problem. In an effort to get me out of the shop when I voiced concern about work being done without authorization or any type of communication with me, Joel offered to undo everything and put my old parts back in...knowing this was not an option for me as I was from out of town, his shop was closed all weekend and that I had to be back home on Monday. WrenchRite still refuses to remedy the situation. His only attempt was an offer to pay for the work that I'd had done by MY mechanic when I returned home...THAT work was a mere fraction of the price that I paid for what Joel did... work that didn't solve the problem and that he was never authorized to do. I honestly don't have a Subaru, yet even though this is a Subaru shop primarily Joel (the owner) and Tim and and Dan the mechanics weren't afraid at all to help me out with some fairly complex problems on my later model Nissan pickup! It's refreshing these days to get a shop you can trust, especially trying to stretch a couple more miles out of my potential clunker-:) The guys (and gals) down there always make me feel welcome, they get my vehicle fixed right for a fair price, and they level with me; on a level a layperson like myself can understand. I'm an Army veteran too and I do like that they have a flag in their bay; although they don't say anything about it, just pure americana, like the license plates on the wall or the racing gear. The whole place has the feeling of how I imagine your local mechanic used to be, straight shooters about what they can or can't get done for you, with a comfy waiting area and close eats if you feel hungry! When my truck finally gives up the ghost I'll get a forester probably just to keep in business with these folks. A true gem on the shoreline! read more
