Can I tell you I was on the way to work the other day and I passed by some umbrellas that look like Vienna beef umbrellas and I quickly saw that it was a hot dog restaurant I used to run my own hot dog restaurant many years back and it's hard to find a good Chicago dog that's made authentic that's made with all ingredients proper way I was blown away by this place I absolutely love their food the atmosphere everything was just exactly what you want from a hot dog restaurant Umm this place should have a chokehold on every other restaurant in town that serves hot dogs because these guys have got it down pat i'm going back with my father on Wednesday to have the Chicago special I recommend this place to anybody who loves hot dogs Definitely need to go here it's a must!!!! Our first night in San Antonio, we checked into the hotel, rested for a little bit, and then.....boop.....out to eat we went because that's what we do . My husband found this spot, and being from Chicago, I was immediately interested. I grew up on thin crust pizza, cut in squares, with Italian sausage and jalapeños. That is my kind of pizza, period. So of course that's what we ordered, except we added pepperoni too. And listen.....it did what it needed to do. The pizza was thin, cheesy, flavorful, and cut the right way.....in squares. We got a small, I believe around 12 inches, and it was perfect for us. I also had to get a Chicago dog because.....hello.....CHICAGO. Fresh ingredients, poppy seed bun, all the proper toppings, and the Vienna Beef dog was right on point. My husband also ordered a pizza puff because somehow this man claims he doesn't remember eating pizza puffs back in the day. Sir.....we definitely used to get those for you . The only thing missing was some good Chicago mild sauce. Had that been there, whew.....complete throwback. But honestly, the experience was bigger than just the food for me. The decor is ALL Chicago. Cubs, Bears, Bulls, jerseys, memorabilia, old photos, Chicago PD references.....everywhere you look, there's something that takes you back. I was walking around recording with my Ray-Ban Metas because the memories were just coming. I even asked who was from Chicago because I already knew SOMEBODY had to be . Turns out, the owner is, and he was actually the one who took our order and brought out our food. Service was great. You order at the counter, they bring your food to the table, and there's a self-service area for drinks and condiments. They also offer beer and wine, although we stuck with fountain drinks. And then my husband handed me an RC Zero. Listen.....I had not had RC Cola since before I left for the military at 19. Talk about a blast from the past. Overall, great food, great service, and a serious dose of Chicago nostalgia. If you're from Chicago, or just love Chicago-style food and sports culture, this place is worth checking out. I ask for mine hot peppers, dipped with Au jous on the side; large RC or cold Goose Island beer and some cheese fries. TRAIN WRECK sandwich poorly made the bun was only half dipped when I asked for it to be dipped, the other half of the un-dipped bun was tough to bite thru. While trying to eat this thing ever bite left a pile ingredients on the table fallen off the sandwich. The Italian beef was very tough and was seasoned poorly, the Italian sausage was good, but it was scalding "TO HOT" temperature to eat. The French fries were a mess, soggy greasy cold, no flavor at all nada. From there color you could tell the fryer grease had not been change in a while. I have had Chicago beef sandwiches many times before and all of them have been fantastic except for this place. When I made mentioned of my disappointment to the manger, I received a nothing, no feedback. So that tells me they really have no pride in their food. These are some pretty good hot dogs!! Stopped in for a quick lunch with my fiancé and was pleasantly surprised by the awesome vibe of this place. The diner is covered from floor to ceiling with baseball paraphernalia from stuffed teddy bears to family photos everywhere, complete with a couple of TV screens playing a some games. The two ladies at the register were extremely helpful in explaining the menu and offering recommendations when I was overwhelmed by all of the tasty sounding eats. We ended up settling on the Famous Italian Beef and a classic Chicago without onions. I managed to snag a bite of my fiancé's Chicago dog before he devoured it and it was absolutely delicious. The veggies were crisp and so juicy, and the bright green relish was absolutely delish. I ordered my Famous Italian Beef spicy instead of sweet, and while it was extremely delicious I wish I'd ordered it half and half it was just so hot! The peppers really gave this sandwich a spicy kick, and the shredded beef was so tender and yummy. I opted to have the dipping sauce in a cup on the side instead of having the sandwich dipped in it as per the other option thinking it would be a little less messy to eat, but I feel like I ended up in an equally as messy situation regardless! No regrets on my choice, but I'm still happy I sat close to a napkin dispenser lol. I'd absolutely love to return to try more from the menu. Lunch was great and I loved seeing my baseball fan fiancé geek out over all of the decor and absolutely gush over how authentic the Chicago vibes and tastes were. I'm not the biggest fan of hot dogs, because it's a hot dog at the end of the day, but when we were in San Antonio, my husband got it into his head that this place would be amazing. It was not. I think what killed it for me was the service. Like, we are more than an hour away from closing and they already blocked off one side of the restaurant, cleaning it up and would tell people they were closing, forcing people to sit on barstools and others kinda trying to figure out who can get the last of the tables. It's stupid because had they not roped off the other side there would have literally been enough space for everyone. The food was just okay. It was interesting and different and the french fries with beef different, but not mind blowingly amazing. I think what turned me off the most was just how the people who worked their behaved. I had gone there to give them a chance and then they do the most. Plus they seemed to want us to order quickly and get out. Hey we're out of towners, we don't know. We might have questions...and your stupid restaurant is open for another hour. You would think it was closing time with the way they behaved. I'm not in the mood to come back here when I visit San Antonio again, but maybe my husband will drag me here. Otherwise, I am okay skipping this place in the future. read more

My wife and I had been discussing options for dinner before we got to San Antonio for a meeting, and this place had crossed our radar and seemed to be appealing to both of us, so we swung by. The place was still open for about an hour when we arrived, but it was clear that they were already starting to close up. The patio tables had already started to be packed up in a pile, so outdoor seating was out of the question. It was a bit warm, so that was fine. Unfortunately, as we were ordering, they were bringing in the patio furniture and obstructing the indoor dining, cutting off about half of the seating in the restaurant. The patrons, who clearly were in no rush to get food and left, packed in the remaining half of the restaurant, meaning the rest of us who were ordering were stuck at this... counter-like space along the wall. It was less than impressive. I've never had a Chicago hot dog before today, so I can't speak to whether it was authentic or not, but I can say that the food was mediocre at best. I've had better hot dogs at chain restaurants like James Coney Island in Houston. We'd ordered the gypsy fries to share, expecting something like what we'd had in Houston, where the fries are served on the bottom with roast beef debris and gravy on top. Instead, we got a bowl with dry roast beef piled on top of fries that had been soaked in au jus, meaning that they were wet and mushy, but had already soaked up enough juice that it was impossible to get the roast beef moistened. I absolutely LOVE this place! When I get homesick I come by and eat some wonderful food. While I've stuck with my favorites a Chicago dog or Italian Beef I decided to try the special for the day I visited which was a Gyro, salad, and drink and it did not disappoint. The salad was fresh and plentiful which could definitely be a meal in itself and the gyro was perfectly made as well. I'm so glad I went when I did because the owner made the specials an all day item. What can I say about the storefront other than it has my favorite team plastered everywhere and definitely makes me feel like I'm back in Chicago with my Cubs. I've had this joint bookmarked for as long as I can remember. Finally made it last night. Unfortunately, one of the first things I saw was Guy Fieri's logo from "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". I say unfortunately because I've always had bad luck with these locations. I often walk away wondering what was so great.... Sadly, my bad luck trend with "DDD" locations continues. Don't get me wrong, it was okay, but I'm not seeing the hype. I had a chili cheese dog combo. I found the price point arguably high for what I got. I found the amount of chili minimal and the liquid cheese (like the kind on movie theater nachos which I despise), borderline cool (as in temperature). However, my friend had the Italian sausage and that looked like something I'd go back and try. THAT looked worth the money. Ambiance is fun and casual. Not a huge fan of the long table seating which may force you to sit next to people you don't know. There aren't a lot of "stand alone" tables, so we sat outside, but battled street noise. Bottom line: I may have made the wrong choice in my meal and I'm not writing this place off yet. I will be back to try something else. read more

We found this place on the recommendation of a friend. The Chicago dog is really good and I especially like the bun. Their gyros are well prepared with plenty of meat and tomatoes/onions - the sauce is on point. I can highly recommend both items we've had. Now the owner and people who work there are very friendly; they do recognize and appreciate our patronage. It appears to have a following and I can understand. Had a craving for a hot dog so I tried this place (should have stuck to my trusty favorite der Wienerschnitzel) Thought being from Chicago would give it some street cred. Nope. So disappointed. Had the Chicago Fire hot dog meal and a large Greek salad to share. Whatever they put on the fire dog was disgusting. An odd colored relish and a pickle covered in hot spicy salt. Just gross. The salad was over priced for what it was. It had two small slices of feta, two pepperoncini's and TWO Kalamata olives. It was over saturated in Italian dressing.
