Summary: What a gem of a place! Great tiki décor, excellent cocktails (Painkiller and Blue Hawaiian are highly recommended), delicious food (wok-charred veggies and crab rangoon ftw), and awesome staff. Shout out to Joe the bartender for some great service, drinks, and conversation. Cambridge is so lucky to have this establishment in its neighborhood. While visiting the area, my wife happened to see a tiki bar show up in our search results when looking for a place to eat dinner. I went through the pictures and reviews and got super excited about paying a visit during my stay. On Tuesday evening I made my way there and went upstairs to the second floor where the tiki bar is. From the instant I stepped foot into the building I was instantly welcomed by the tastefully blended Chinese-Tiki décor. At the top of the decorated staircase I was greeted by a friendly host, whom escorted me to the bar for a seat right in front of Joe the bartender. He gave me a rundown of the drinks on one side of the menu, and the food on the other. I perused for my first concoction while also looking around and immersing myself in the ambiance. The gong with the establishment's logo, the many tiki drink vessels lining the shelves, even all of the "8's" in the prices of the menu items all merged together to really enhance the theme. Props to the designers! For my first drink selection, I opted for the Painkiller (a classic if you like the coconut + pineapple flavor combo). Joe and I started chatting while he assembled the various components of the drink and combined them together in a little brown tiki head glass. The flavors were on point, which was impressive considering he had only been working there for 3 weeks and this was his first bartending job. Apparently this establishment trains its bar staff quite well. Kudos! After getting my drink, I ordered the wok-charred veggies and crab rangoon to start my meal. Both came out served in dumpling steamers, which kept them nice and toasty as they hit the bar. I was VERY surprised by how tasty the veggies were. Lots of flavorful sauce, and a nice firm texture without being too raw. Delicious! The rangoon were also very good, but more standard (though the sweet chili sauce was more pleasant than I usually find it to be). My second drink was a Blue Hawaiian, which was also delicious. And I also ordered the animal bao so I could see the cute animal buns up close. They were pretty good, but not as enjoyable (to me) as the other two dishes. My total bill came to $59 for the three dishes and two drinks, which is pretty reasonable given the quality and enjoyment. My favorite would still be the Saturn if I had to pick. Their bigger drinks are huge!! I saw people get them and that could be shared with 3-4 people depending on how much you want to drink. I would come back for drinks but not the food, unless I was really craving for a quick bite. When I checked in with the hostess, she said I did not have a reservation. I looked at the tablet myself and found the spelling of both my first and last names were incorrect. If the hostess even tried to put in an effort to phonetically find my name, she could have -- there weren't many other names listed at the same reservation time as mine. The waiter was more friendly though. Starting with the drinks -- I got the Singapore Sling to start, then the Zombie. The Zombie was my favorite of the two -- was more refreshing and stronger alcohol taste. My friend got the Mai Tai and Painkiller, both were tasty, preferred the Mai Tai. Food was okay. You could get similar dishes that are affordable and better quality than here...but you would miss out on the fun drinks. The animal baos (one pork and one chicken) were cute. The pork bao had good flavors, and the chicken bao was nothing special. The drunken noodles were a disappointment -- the expected flavor profile was there but it came in a soup noodle form, which I'm not used to compared since it's usually stir fry. We ordered this with chicken, extra cost, and there weren't many pieces of chicken to justify the price, plus the chicken pieces were dry and tough. Gailan with garlic. I love Gailan (Chinese broccoli). It is my favorite vegetable. There was no garlic flavor at all except for the fried garlic garnish. There was a heavy lemon flavor (we did not squeeze the lemon provided), the Gailan was already very lemony. The sliders were good. If you like sweet and salty you'd like it since it has pineapples in it. Essentially a mini burger with pineapples. The atmosphere and decor were casual, loud, and on theme. It's quite dark in some areas of the restaurant, otherwise the area closer to the bar is brighter and you can see all the themed decor in full force. read more

But there was one server/busser who was incredible rude in way that I have never experienced before. We came here with some friends on a Friday night- definitely recommend reservations ahead of time; we snagged a 630pm slot for 5 ppl about a week in advance. Drinks were delicious and alcohol forward :) the food was also really good- highlights were definitely the adorable baos (crispy chicken shaped like a chicken! And pulled pork shaped like a pig), the scallion pancakes (usually crispy, these were actually almost like a crepe like consistency and wrapped around tender brisket) and the drummettes (chicken drumsticks in a sticky delicious glaze- I could have eaten all of them myself!). We were originally worried about the quantity of food because there was only one of some things per order (ie: baos, spam musubi etc) but actually the "one" order is massive. We ended up not being able to finish everything. We did note some tables ordered duck ahead of time and it looked amazing- I think we will definitely try that next time! I would only come here to drink. If you love a cocktail with the alcohol highlighted, most of their drinks fit that. Make a reservation, I came here on a Sunday night and it was full. The place has dim lighting and an intimate but fun atmosphere. I appreciated that the menu had everything for $8.88 or $x.88. The size of things does correspond with the price though, I felt that those $8.88 drinks were smaller than expected. As someone who loves a fruity/sweet cocktail, my favorite drinks were the Bougie Beach and the Missionary's Downfall. I would skip the food here. I don't care about supposed "authenticity" as long as it tastes good, but everything was just quite bland. It was tapas-style, so we ordered the Summer Roll, Scallion Pancake Roll, House Special Rice, Crispy Chicken Bao, and General Tso's Drumettes. It felt like it was missing a lot of flavors. The Summer Roll was just noodles and the Scallion Pancake Roll had dry tough meat inside. The best and only one worth eating was the Drumettes, but even that wasn't too impressive. The service was quite slow, but at least they brought out all the dishes at once. At the very least, the waiter was super enthusiastic and really tried to make sure we had a good time. Wow! What a place! Honestly I had no idea what to expect but as I entered and climbed the stairs, I thought I might be at the Rainforest Cafe for adults. What a unique gem right in Cambridge and I loved the look and feel. I came here last month (on a Wednesday) with my restaurant club and thankfully we had a reservation because it was packed. The drink menu is fun and you need to turn it around like a wheel to figure out all the options. Although I get it, it's a Tiki Bar, I was hoping for a larger selection of non rum based drinks. Rum is so sugary to me I try to avoid it, but I picked something with bourbon in it. What a fun menu! And don't be fooled, the portions are huge. The star of the show are the bao's. Who can resist that cute bun decorated like a pig or a chicken. And they both were very tasty. We ordered a few of them as well as the crab rangoons (some of the best I've ever had), Oni ribs, Zhajiangmian, Lu Rou Fan, and the Twisted Greens. Everything was delicious! Our party of 8 was completely stuffed and barely finished it all. I would go back and try everything else I couldn't have because they were out of quite a few items that we wanted to try. Bummer. Solid spot in Harvard Square serving up Asian *American* cuisine. I love that this place has really leaned into Asian American food. It eschews the ridiculous and impossible bar of "authenticity" in favor of being authentically Chinese American--crab rangoon, noodles made with spaghetti noodles, everything served kitschily in bamboo steamers. Cocktails are strong and sweet. Service was attentive at least on a Wednesday at 5pm. And prices are fair, most of the dishes will run you $8-12, giving the vibe of bar snacks moreso than full on meal. DO NOT come here expecting blow your socks off flavor profiles you'll find in more "legit" Chinese-Chinese restaurants like Blossom Bar and My Happy Hunan Kitchen. The ambiance of this place is chill. I enjoyed my drink (lime soda). However, I ordered a Cesar salad and they forgot 5 of the toppings!!!! Then it took 50 mins to get the bill and couldn't get any other dish because literally no severs. They took it off my bill, but I was still hungry. The service was horrible. I said that I would like to order some thing else to the bartender/manager, but no one came by for 20+ mins and another 10 for our check. As a tiki an Asian food enthusiast, Wusong Road is a VERY welcome addition to Harvard Square! I had been following their journey to opening on their Instagram and was excited to see that they were starting to serve their Peking duck. You have to reserve the duck in advance for now and it is well worth it! They have a fun tiki drink menu which balances the classics with newer takes. My partner had the mai tai which was simultaneously boozy and refreshing. I had the missionary's downfall, one of my favorite tiki drinks, and it was generously flavored and garnished with fresh mint. They make their juices and orgeats in house which adds to the freshness. Now the DUCK!!! ~*Chef's Kiss*~ It comes on a platter with some fun bao buns, a slaw and scallion mix, hoisin, chili crisp oil, and salt. The duck is one of the best I've had...the meat is tender, juicy, and extremely flavorful while the skin is crisp and savory with the perfect layer of oily fat (not too little, not too much). Every bite was incredible and I know I'll be craving this regularly. We finished with the dole whip (which you can get with or without booze) and it was the perfect way to end a decadent meal. Tart, creamy, and refreshing, it's the perfect palate cleanser. Every person who worked there was fun and attentive, and the ambiance is amazing. There are 2 different sections to Wusong Road. This is a review for the downstairs area. Downstairs: all self-service. You sit yourself down at any open tables, if there are any, and order online from their QR code (the menu is just build-your-own-plate). There were ~2 bartenders the night I went and it takes a while to get your order in/pay since they're attending to a long row of people. The food itself is okay. The pork I got with my serving platter is savory but the serving size is somewhat small. The rice has the texture of day-old microwaved rice that I think is better used for a fried rice dish. The ambiance itself is nice for a date/a friend hang & I've heard from friends that the upstairs drinks menu and food options are much more extensive and exciting. But the wait is always long (1.5 hours for me on a Friday evening). Would revisit for the upstairs area or for just a drink at the bar downstairs. read more

What a scene this place is! If you're looking for tiki this is the spot. The decor is over the top in the best way and the drinks scream fun. Loved the fun mugs cocktails came in and the food was great. Favs were the maple pork dumplings and bao buns but enjoyed everything we ordered. We had both wusong bao (which are not bao by any definition), halloumi bao (the random apple slice was...a choice), the jianbing (shrimp was good but only one piece per wrap), and the crab rangoons. I wish I could give 5 stars but this is the rating I feel forced to give solely based on the hostess in the front. From beginning to end she was extremely rude and unwelcoming. Unfortunately I didn't get her name but she looked young, on the shorter side, long dark hair w/ glasses. We stepped inside and walked towards the bar, she was at the front looking down ignoring us not making eye contact, she then stepped right in our way and demanded, "where are you going...". My fiancé explained a gentleman let us know there was bar seats and that we can go ahead and snag them, she then responded "Oh" and continued to ignore us. We sat at the bar, had a couple drinks, truly enjoyed the vibe. We loved the mugs our drinks came in so much we were interested in purchasing our own since we live in Vegas. While walking back to the front I noticed other patrons opening the glass cabinets helping themselves to grabbing a mug and taking it to the front, so I assumed it was okay. I proceeded to look for the cat/dragon, she again stepped right in front of me and rudely asked "Uhm, what are you doing..." I said "oh! I'm looking at the merchandise" she said "....okay" with a smug look and walked away. I was very confused, I tried to ask if that was not allowed and I tried to apologize. She ignored. I tried to get her attention to see if she could help me, she continued to ignore and walk away. I was nervous about going to Wusong Road despite being very excited about it opening because of their presence on social media. Their Instagram account seems to chronicle mishaps and stumbles that come with opening a new restaurant as opposed to showcasing the food/drink and decor, which left me with a bad impression. I would say that they should maybe change up what they're posting on Instagram to match the idea of what they're trying to do a little more. Despite my reservations, I was so excited about the concept I decided to go anyway, and I'm very glad I did! The tiki drinks were phenomenal. I got the best painkiller I've had in Boston, and a very solid Mai Tai as well. I want to go back and try all the other drinks on the menu asap. Food was very good. The highlight for me was the pork bao as well as the fried chicken bao; both were well-seasoned and playful. I'd love a couple more veg options on the menu, and I thought it was sort of funny that the food was served in steamer baskets but none of it aside from the bao was actually steamed food? I get what they were going for but felt a little excessively gimicky to me. And finally, I'd go back to this restaurant for the decor alone. It's beautifully done, tons of wonderful little tiki details that truly transport you and make you feel like you're on vacation. we tried this Resturant for the first time on September 3. The ambience is nice. It's kitschy with lights and mugs. They had an extensive drink list. We ordered the Miai tai which was good, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. . for food we got the poo poo platter and the ribs. They were just both OK tasty but nothing really crave that would make me want to go back sooner than later. This service also was a little mixed a few times had to hunt down our waiter. Booked a large party reservation one month in advance for my birthday dinner. The only slot I could get for 8 people was at 9:30pm, which was a little late but I didn't mind. When we got there we were seated upstairs by the bar on barstools, and the table was half under the light half completely dark. I loved the ambiance of the restraint but out seating was so odd and uncomfortable. The service was pretty abysmal. He took our drink order and didn't come back until around 10:15 to take our food order. When we finally ordered, at 10:30 he put our check on the table before the food even came. When the food came at 10:45, they brought out dessert for me for my birthday at the same time (that my friend asked for to finish the meal). It was clear that we were being rushed but no one had communicated with us to tell us why. Finally they told us we had to eat within 15 minutes because the upstairs closed at 11. What?? If we were informed of this (even at the beginning of the meal) we could have planned things better. Even still, with not taking our food order for 45 minutes, there's no way we could have eaten in time to get out by 11. So why have an appointment slot for 9:30pm? My friends & I dined here over the weekend. The service was subpar. We were considerate of the fact that our server was working by himself in our section on a Saturday night but he barely came to our table & we had to hunt him down each time we needed him. This a weird one. Believe it or not, this is the abbreviated version! A new student at Harvard, I went alone on night one and Wusong Road was amazing. Amazing food, cocktail, service, amazing! I left an above typical tip. I was that pleased. So much so, I took five new friends on night two. Again, amazing, amazing, amazing. So much so, we all left big tips because we enjoyed everything so much. Consecutive night three a bunch of classmates decided to go because I raved. WHOLE DIFFERENT EXPERENCE. The host who recognized me from two previous consecutive evenings, was rude. Unaccommodating. Refused to acknowledge that the large group there at my behest wanted to sit together, didn't offer us a place at the bar together, refused to allow me and my classmate to sit at the bar, event though it was nearly empty. Insisted that he assign us seats at the bar. When we went to let our friends know that we couldn't join them at the table, he told us we'd lost our place and couldn't get seated at the nearly empty bar until he seated other guests, and when I said that perhaps I should cast my economic vote elsewhere( while still being very polite despite his rudeness) he said sarcastically, "Have a good night", in other words--F-YOU. I will not be returning. Incredible how one incident can ruin an otherwise amazing experience. Wondered what the big shift was for all of... not long, at all. We went to Lou's on Brattle in Harvard Square. Great food, great cocktails, amazing atmosphere and service and our presence and money were actually appreciated.
