We celebrated our 25th anniversary here at this trendy restaurant. I've been meaning to come here sooner since everybody said it was a big must. I certainly don't have any regrets because the food was delicious! We ordered the zucchini chips, the hamachi crudo (my favorite) the octopus, and the lobster. It was divine. This is my second time at Kaia. I'm a huge fan of Bar Vlaha, so I've been hopeful that Kaia would be a new staple. Unfortunately, after two attempts, I do think Kaia falls short. There are a lot of positives. The space is beautiful, chic, and luxurious. The service is very attentive: all the servers know the menu well and do a great job of explaining Kaia's theme as the Greek, seafood-focused restaurant in the chain. They bring out the food promptly and the presentation is gorgeous. However, both times I've been to Kaia, I've been somewhat disappointed by the food. It's quite expensive and I find myself disappointed by the flavors. My most recent time, we ordered the focaccia, the yellowtail crudo, the cabbage, and the beef short rib dish. We concluded that the focaccia was the best . The yellowtail and the cabbage were fine, but the seasoning was kind of bland and nothing stood out to us. The beef short rib was seasoned in a strange way--both of us were shocked when we took our first bite. It came with an eggplant spear that was stuffed with a bechamel of some sort. It kind of oozed and again, was kind of bland and boring. We finished the dish, but didn't necessarily love it. Granted, both times I've gone, I haven't gotten the seafood, which is the linchpin of the restaurant. Finally tried Kaia -- I've skimmed their menu before and could tell it was clever and thoughtful, but actually going in person and tasting everything went beyond my expectations. When my octopus dish came out, someone in a chef's coat stopped by to walk me through the elements, which I thought was such a nice touch. Was so excited to pick this place for my birthday dinner. Went ahead and made a reservation for outside and had 2 of my friends come with. We went to the hostess to check in for the reservation early. She was so incredibly rude and told us we had to sit inside. We told her we had made the reservation for outside hoping it was a confusion but she rolled her eyes and told us that we had not. (Even with the reservation in hand in front of her) We then politely asked if there was space for us to sit outside and she once again told us no and caught an attitude. I understand if it would've been full but shortly after three girls without a reservation came and asked the same thing and were seated outside. On the reservation we had noted it was a birthday. And someone had even come by to ask the name of the birthday girl but then there was no follow up. Stunning spot serving beautifully reimagined Greek dishes. It's perfect for a girls night out. To start, the servers are so nice. They went through the menu one by one and were very proud of the dishes being put out. Pricing-wise Kaia is rather expensive as it's a higher end restaurant, so you're mainly paying for the beautiful ambiance and aesthetic dishes. We tried a couple of their Meze dishes such as their potato, gyro & octopus. While they were beautiful, there was just something small that could've been improved upon each one. For example, a crispy octopus could've been better than the soft one they served. Also while the gyro condiments were perfect, we found the lamb a bit dry. I thought their potato was perfection though. We also tried their desserts which were interesting. I really love how they always add touches of acidity with citrus. However I did find the Loukoumades texture a bit gummy-like. Maybe a bit too much syrup but the orange blossom honey flavor was lovely the first couple bites. Sunday night at 6pm was a great time to visit Kaia. It was very calm and the space was full of rounded curves from the couches to the ceiling arches set beneath a comforting glowing candlelight. It was not crowded when we arrived which was perfect since I have seen it completely packed before. Our server, Faith, made it an exceptional experience. She was patient, knowledgeable about the menu, and had a very warm presence. She was very considerate and accommodating for my dairy allergy. The cucumber and mandarin cocktail was light and refreshing. All three dishes we ordered had unique and distinct mod Greek flavors. The cauliflower was slightly grilled and resembled a broccolini / cauliflower hybrid. I wish there were more macerated cherries, they added a great compliment to the nuttiness and crunch of the pine nuts and spice of the harissa chili oil. The octopus was incredible even omitting the butter from the sauce. It was grilled perfectly, both crispy and soft. A must order! Lastly, since it was a special occasion we decided to order the grilled whole sea bream. It was delicious, a thick lemony sauce was ceremoniously poured over the fish pooling around it. Came to this place with a friend because I was feeling a little fancy for dinner. The atmosphere is pretty lively. We were seated in the bar area and the server was great. Gave us good recommendations and explained to us the different drinks they had which matched the taste profile I requested. The food tasted great and everything was cooked perfectly without being overcooked. The crudo was definitely fresh, nice and tangy. The pasta was creamy and savory with a meaty taste of mushrooms. Definitely my favorite of all the dishes I tried. The Feta dish had the strongest flavor which was great at first but became too much towards the end. The octopus had a great char, but after trying this in other places, it wasn't at the top of my list for me. The beef was also very tender and juicy. Although, I liked the food for some reason it didn't really stand out as fantastic. The flavors were definitely on the milder side (except the feta). Lastly, the dessert was also just ok. The Baklava had an interesting take where it was more divided and had some kind of dip that I don't know how to describe and didn't like. The basil & carob followed the same mild tasting theme, but the flavors itself with the olive oil was definitely tasty. Parking in the area was unbelievably hard with not that many street parking options around the restaurant, especially on a busy Friday night. Fan favorites from the food menu were the zucchini chips (which we did with caviar), tuna crudo, feta dip, the potato, gyro, octopus, and the grilled whole fish. I had the great luck to get an early preview of Kaia and left truly charmed by the experience. Exceptional is an understatement. When you walk in, the bright decor and warm atmosphere instantly transport you to an oasis of delight akin to the beaches of Santorini and fresh for Boston. The variety of seating options provide high top to lounge couch and intimate tables - something for everyone and each group. The cocktail list is genius, crafted by a truly inspired spirit. The names of the cocktails are straightforward highlighting key ingredients but then the depth and complexity paired with the presentation of each drink is so carefully crafted and neatly measured it's terribly hard to choose just one. Lime leaf and Fenugreek took my heart, and Juniper and Dill is exceptionally quirky and mouthwatering - not to mention adorable with a tiny pickle to top. Beyond the spirits of the wonderful staff and drinks, the food is unfathomable and represents a truly unique model. A zero waste kitchen is an impressive bonus, the dishes are true to the seaside location and there is so much care put into every dish! We started with the Gifts of the Sea - a bright happy oyster, insane caviar that pulls your attention and soothing lobster claw that's juicy and perfect to prepare for next dishes. We dove into the crudo and with both the tuna and sea bass crudos we couldn't help but want to lick the dishes. Very fresh yet delicately torched to add texture to the sea bass - and happily mixed with other ingredients for the tuna- these would be repeat dishes for sure. Probably my favorite in life, the veggies! I would eat 6 servings of the beets with persimmon and be a happy human. The preparation keeps the fruits and roots at a consistent soft but sturdy texture that transports incredible balance to the dish. We also had the cabbage which will be a winter fave. Finally, the full sea bream. Comes out smiling and perfectly bathed in fresh lemon olive oil then topped with herbs. Wow what a place. After reading the many glowing reviews I booked Kaia as the spot for my celebration with family. Unfortunately, my experience did not meet expectations. The design of Kaia is visually very thoughtful, it's filled with aethstetic things that make people pull out their phones for a story post. It's a visually ambitious that forgot to consider two way conversation. The amount of sound that carries is crazy. It produced this effect where you can hardly hear the person across from you. This leads to everyone sort of yelling creating a loop of noise pollution. Service begins with promise. A complimentary bottle of wine appears, a selection by a sommelier who clearly knows their stuff. That wine itself is enjoyable, and their list of Greek and international labels shows genuine creativity. But any goodwill from that generous gesture evaporated as our server reminded us 9 separate times throughout the meal that the bottle was "on the house". In fact we were reminded 2 times in the span of 30 seconds just as the bill was handed to me. What a way to make such a generous offer feel cheap and tacky. Throughout the meal there was a theme that he consistently made us feel that we weren't spending enough and that he wanted to let us know he expected a big tip. At another point just prior to ordering desert he let the table know the kitchen had prepared a "big surprise" for me. When we ordered a single dessert and my party exhausted by his antics he was visibly let down and the surprise of course never came. He returned with instead a double order. There were other points in the meal where we ordered a dish and he'd say no order two of that one and we'd decline, he'd read off the order including both dishes, which we would again decline, and then two dishes would show up which we would then send back. The food is at this price point completely uninspired and lackluster. The zucchini chips arrived as a high point. They were crispy, well-seasoned and genuinely inventive. They were the best thing on the table that night and we ordered half the menu. Which seriously? That can't be your best dish. Most of the dishes felt incomplete or disjointed. The "Gifts of the Sea" promised a tasting trio but delivered crab that still required de-shelling, a clam buried under foamy lemon bubbles that obliterated its ocean flavor, and tuna sitting on the plate like an afterthought. Overall many felt like they weren't fully thought out, lacked textural variety in the dish. The spinach for example is essentially your mom's casserole. Other dishes like the octopus were well cooked (which is a temperamental protein to cook) but missing a sauce or acid to tie it together. Most dishes felt out of touch with the restaurants Greek marketing. There were a lot of quintessential greek aspects of the meal just missing. The worst offending dish however by a mile is the lobster. We ordered a full version costing a whopping $98 for what is perhaps a 1lb chicken lobsters meat presented in the four corners of the plate with a ridiculous amount of pasta in the middle. It's hardly Mediterranean, the pasta and lobster don't tie in with each other at all. Worst yet, the pasta is bland and the lobster has no seasoning, butter, citrus, nothing. Who thought of this dish? The lobster should really be better incorporated with the pasta, and felt a skimpy. Kaia's wine program shows potential, and that complimentary bottle was a nice touch; until it wasn't. The server's obsession with reminding us of its "price tag" undercut any feeling of generosity. At this level, wine should be a carefully curated journey, not a guilt trip. At its price point, Kaia should feel polished and inviting. Instead, it's a lesson in missed opportunities. The décor screams luxury, the service screams commission-driven, and the food screams "we could have tried harder." Zucchini chips aside, there's little reason to return. For a celebratory dinner, I'd go elsewhere. A quick cocktail or wine at the bar might pass, but don't expect a memorable meal or a warm welcome if you sit down for dinner. Tucked into the South End with sightlines that stretch toward the Prudential Center, Kaia leans into a polished coastal Greek identity without feeling staged or precious. The room has class, busy in the best way on a weekend, softly lit with just enough mystery to feel like a night out rather than a meal under bright lights. The staff immediately sets the tone, well dressed, composed, and confident in a way that signals you are in good hands before you ever open the menu. Service is where Kaia really separates itself. Our server walked us through the menu clearly and thoughtfully, not by dictating what to order but by helping refine what we already had in mind. She explained how the menu flows, suggested how dishes could build on one another, and then offered to course everything in a way that made sense. That decision alone elevated the entire experience. Drinks arrived quickly, which mattered, especially early in the night, and the pacing from there never faltered. Plates came when they should, waters stayed full, and we were given space to enjoy ourselves without ever feeling unattended. The cocktail program fits the restaurant perfectly. The Pear & Mahkwan, built on Elijah Craig Rye with Cocchi Americano, pear, osmanthus, and mahkwan pepper, was balanced and expressive without being flashy. The Loomi & Yuzu, brightened with black lime, ginger, and Greek sparkling wine, leaned refreshing and celebratory. Both felt intentional, not filler drinks designed to pad a menu. Food at Kaia is designed to be shared, and it shows. The zucchini chips arrived first, crisp and addictive, anchored by tzatziki powder and garos caramel yogurt. In a neighborhood with no shortage of Greek restaurants known for zucchini chips, these more than held their own. The octopus followed and immediately became the standout of the night. Perfectly cooked, tender without losing texture, and paired with a sauce so good it demanded to be used beyond its plate, it was the kind of dish that makes you stop mid-conversation. It was so good that the zucchini chips were dipped into it long after their own accompaniment was gone. The lamb neck was rich and comforting, wrapped in zucchini pita with sunflower yogurt and mint jam, a dish that felt hearty without being heavy. The Spanish mackerel was good, clean, and well executed, though it played more like a well-prepared white fish than a dish meant to steal attention. It was not a miss, just outshined by plates that took bigger swings. The cuttlefish, served over kritharoto with manouri, squid essence, and preserved Meyer lemon, arrived later in the meal and quietly impressed. Deeply flavorful and complex, it might have rivaled the octopus for top billing had it come earlier. Even as leftovers the next day, it held its own, which says a lot. What really seals Kaia as a place worth returning to is how well it handles moments that matter. Without prompting, the staff acknowledged our anniversary with a signed card and celebratory champagne, a gesture that felt sincere rather than performative. It was thoughtful, well timed, and completely aligned with the kind of experience Kaia is trying to create. Kaia is not a casual drop-in spot, and it is not trying to be. It is a celebratory restaurant, best enjoyed with people you are comfortable sharing food, conversation, and time with.
