Took my little sister out for hot pot on Chinese New Year. This is my first time here and I'm obsessed! There is a parking lot in the back around the corner. You can easily miss it. But we were seated instantly, there are so plenty of tables inside. And the interior is so pretty! I love their snack selection. This is my new favorite hot pot stop.

Went to eat here with the Hubs on New Year's Eve around 5:45 PM on a rainy night. Luckily there was no line when we arrived, but this place can definitely get busy, so I'd still expect a wait during peak times. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which was easy, and everything came out pretty quickly after we placed our order. They also have a sauce bar (extra cost) along with some sesame balls and rice crackers, which was a nice touch. Service was okay overall -- we did have to call our server a couple of times when we needed things. The inside of the restaurant is very pretty and clean for the most part, which made the experience enjoyable. Price-wise, it's on the average to slightly higher side for shabu, but overall a decent spot for hotpot, especially for special occasions or colder/rainy nights.

I've always passed by this but never had the chance to try it since it looked like it specialized only in spicy hot pot? But actually they had a lot more variety than I thought! This restaurant is located in the corner directly across from Garden Cafe. They have a small lot in the back and open street parking. The interior decor of everything was really nice! Very traditional Chinese and looks very unique compared to many Chinese restaurant these days. We ordered just a bone and spicy broth, along with several meat choices and veggies. Honestly the quality overall was pretty decent! I always love to get the imitation crab meat and the fish ball with roe, but the fish ball was disappointing haha. It wasn't as "fishy" as I liked it to be. Otherwise, this restaurant is very similar to Lao Ma Tou in Rowland Heights. I do notice that their brown sugar rice cake was definitely a lot more chewier and fresh here! Everything else was about the same. The side bar was clean and well in stock. The sesame balls and shrimp crackers were okay. Service was quick and helpful! It was a nice experience to try here.

Everything hotpot should be. Large tables, snack bar, delicious broth and lots of meat and veggie options. The interior of the restaruant feels homey and traditional, like having a hotpot in a different era. Our servers were attentive and always came promtly when we pressed the assistance button which I appreciated. I totally forgot to take photos of the food spread which is a huge failure on my part, but I thoroughly enjoyed all the offerings. The fatty beef belly was especilaly enjoyable.

A nice spacious place and could host a big party easily. Beef belly was the perfect ratio of meat to fat. All veggies looked clean and fresh. Can't go wrong with the soup base you decide on. Soup broth is amazing and very authentic. Each dish ordered was of quality and we left happy and very full. Bill was about $70 for 2 as this place is al la carte.

Nice hot pot place with snack bar. We came to celebrate a birthday and ordered a 3 soup hotpot. The spicy broth is definitely spicy, and the tomato broth was our favorite. Lots of variety of ingredients you can order, some of our go tos are mushrooms, cabbage, quail eggs, spam, tofu. We also ate the ziba (brown sugar rice cakes) which were slightly mediocre. You have to pay a small fee to access the snack bar but they have a variety of snacks, from shrimp chips to chicken feet to seaweed salad. They also have an ice jelly section, and a hot pot sauce section. Service was quick and polite, and store was pretty clean.

First time here after it's been opening for quite a while. Winter and hot pot is always a good match. Love the idea of 3 different soup bases instead of two. The spicy one was fine; tomato soup bases had a bold taste and loved it the most. Varieties of meat and veggies to choose from, which was important to hot pot. The beef and lamb had good quality. The trip was a little bit chewy... We did not overcook it. Service was fine. The place was not too loud. The decor reminded me of hot pot places in China. Parking was not too challenging.

This hotpot place has some good quality meats and broth. The pricing is decent too for what you get. We got the bone broth and spicy. Both were very good and the selection was diverse. The veggies were excellent, especially the corn, napa cabbage and the lotus root. The meats were also great. The ribeye, short rib, shrimp paste with roe and pepper corn beef were great. The lamb and beef belly were also good. The sauce station is very simple and constantly restocked. The staff is very attentive and constantly looking to grab empty trays and deliver orders in a very quick timely manner. The decor is very neat and cultural relevant to the Chinese food.

Was craving hot pot and can't say this place hit the spot. [Food 3/5]: The meat quality did not meet my expectations. It was really tough to eat. We got the short rib first and I would not recommend it. We got a plate of the rib eye next and it was slightly better, but could be more tender. [Service 1/5]: The service was definitely needs improvement. I came during mid day at 4pm and the restaurant only had 3 tables. They brought out all our food pretty fast, but we were waiting for the soup for 15 minutes. We were joking how they must be making the soup super fresh or something. However when we asked, the chef totally didn't see the order. I also felt like the waiter could've checked for us, since we've been just sitting there waiting for the soup to come out to cook the raw ingredients. However, I felt like he was not attentive and not on the floor most of the time. [Ambiance 5/5]: I love the interior decor and I'm happy I didn't smell like hot pot after leaving. Also be aware that they charge $6 for the sauce bar. We were unaware prior so we felt like it was kinda sneaky they didn't tell us prior. Overall, I feel like there's definitely better hot pots around. It was a nice try, but I wouldn't come back.

We visited on a busy Friday evening but were seated immediately despite the crowd. The interior is stunning, with traditional decor elements like red lanterns, intricate woodwork, and inscribed wall plaques, creating a beautiful ambiance. We ordered the 2-broth combo: the house special (Szechuan pepper broth) and pork broth. We also tried the squid, fish combo, beef combo (which included the super tender crystal beef), mushroom combo, and two veggie combos. The broth flavors were excellent, but the highlight for me was the snack station where you could customize your dipping sauces and enjoy fruit and sesame balls for dessert. Service was friendly and quick. It's a fantastic spot for a romantic night out, thanks to the lovely decor and atmosphere.

Wanted to try this place because I saw it in the show Brothers Sun. The interior reminds you of China and it's pretty aesthetic as well. I tried their spicy broth and their white beef bone broth. The spicy broth was good, had a good flavor to it but was way too oily. The white beef bone broth reminded me of the one in hai ding lao, but lacked flavor. They have a sauce bar which you can pay for to make your own sauce. Not sure why it wasn't included. The meats were regular meats, nothing crazy. But their noodles here were super good, definitely getting it next time. Service was fast and friendly. Price wasn't bad as well. I'd come back to try other things on their menu.

This spot used to be one of my favorite places for Chinese hotpot when they first opened, but with so many hotpot spots in the SGV, I hadn't been back in a while. I saw that they were featured in "The Brothers Sun," so when my friends suggested we eat here recently, I was excited. We came on a weeknight, and it wasn't busy, but the store had this weird smell I couldn't ignore. After seating, we scanned the QR code to order and got the duo pot with half spicy/half bone broth. Their ingredient selection felt limited compared to other hotpot spots. The spicy broth was bland, so we asked the server for more flavor, and he gave us more chilis, oil, and salt mix to doctor it ourselves, which felt like a chemistry experiment. Even with that, the broth wasn't great. I always order youtiao (Chinese fried dough) at every hot pot place that has it, but this was one of the worst ones ever--cold, soggy, and limp. Definitely the worst. The sauce bar was small, items took a while to refill, and the fried sesame balls were literally raw inside. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, not how I remembered it. Goodbye XiaolongKan, I won't be back.

I really wish they would bring it back because it was one of the restaurant's signature dishes and a favorite among many customers. During this visit, I ordered the sliced pork and the jelly noodles. The sliced pork was incredibly tender, with a clean, fresh flavor that let the ingredients' quality shine. The jelly noodles were refreshing, spicy, and full of bold Sichuan flavors. The combination of heat, seasoning, and texture was simply delicious. The dessert was also surprisingly good. It reminded me of mochi, topped with puffed rice that added a pleasant crunch and contrast to the soft, chewy texture. We'd been talking about getting Chinese food, and he picked Xiang La Hui, his go-to spot for classic Sichuan. I'd never been before, and was more than happy to try a new spot in the SGV. We met up at noon and stayed until the restaurant wrapped up lunch service and gently pushed us out the door, sometime around 2:30. The space was nice, instantly recognizable as a Chinese restaurant in Alhambra. It was pretty quiet the whole time, a good place for a leisurely catch-up. Service was fast and polite, though the combination of QR code ordering and poor Verizon service was a bummer. I had to cross the dining room to take down the wifi password posted on the opposite wall. We ordered a sizable spread for two people: Chong Qing fried chicken, dan dan noodles, wontons with chili oil, and pea tips with garlic. Everything was delicious, most of all the Chong Qing fried chicken, crispy nibbly bits of breaded chicken stir-fried with green onion and hot pepper. I love dan dan noodles and wontons, and thought both were great, if not the best I've had in the area. The pea tips were lovely, bright green and not spicy, but abundantly flavorful. A Rare Gem of Authentic Sichuan Cuisine Yesterday, I…read morediscovered a hidden gem: Chuan Wa Zi (川娃子)!Szechuan Delicious! Every single dish I tasted--from the authenticity of the flavors to the freshness of the ingredients and the precision of the wok heat (huohuo)--absolutely blew me away. Usually, entering a Sichuan restaurant means being blasted by "spicy, spicy, spicy" and "numbing, numbing, numbing," with choices limited to just water-boiled, sour soup, or mala flavors. However, the chef at Chuan Wa Zi uses only the freshest ingredients to create dishes that are pure and original. My friends were all full of praise! The Highlights of the Meal * Morel Mushroom & Chicken Consommé: Served in a double-boiled stew pot, the unique sweetness of the morels combined with the delicate fragrance of the chicken was so addictive I couldn't stop at just one bowl. * Braised Lamb with Radish: This featured skin-on young lamb--tender and perfectly cooked yet retaining a delightful chew. The radish was braised until deeply flavorful, and the cilantro garnish was the perfect touch, elevating the aroma without overpowering the richness of the lamb. There was zero gamey smell. Eating the lamb skin provided a boost of collagen--a truly nourishing and warming dish. * Chengdu Baby Cabbage (Er Cai): Stir-fried in a rich broth, it was incredibly sweet with a hint of bitterness that perfectly balanced the richness of the lamb. According to traditional wisdom, "five flavors nourish the five organs." Sichuan's baby cabbage is only in season for one month during spring. It's known to clear "heart fire," refresh the mind, and improve sleep. * Sautéed Pork with Celtuce (Lettuce Stem): The pork was incredibly silky and tender, achieved not through baking soda or heavy starch, but purely through masterly knife work and heat control. Paired with the crisp celtuce, it was a perfect harmony of "silky" and "crunchy." * Sichuan Jelly Noodles (Liangfen): Added at the last minute, Jing (host of Oushang Beauty Spa) claimed these are the most authentic and smooth jelly noodles in Greater Los Angeles. Made purely from mung bean starch with no additives, the texture was clean and soft. The seasoning was light and balanced--just a simple blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, chili oil, garlic, and cilantro. From start to finish, there was no overwhelming spiciness or discomfort--just a comforting and refreshing dining experience that leaves you wanting more. House-Made Specialties It's worth mentioning that the owner personally prepares all the cold appetizers, such as the Smoked Pressed Duck and the platter of Handmade Sausages, Cured Pork (Larou), Cured Ribs, and Spicy Pork Head Meat. They were fragrant and meaty without any of the oily aftertaste often found in over-dried meats. We saw many people calling in to order these platters to go as snacks for drinks (xiajiu), and we definitely plan to do the same next time! Chef's Recommendations & Hidden Menu They offer a variety of other specialties like Pork Tripe in Golden Soup, Spicy Eel with Glass Noodles, and Basu "Glutton" Bullfrog. Some dishes, like our Lamb and Chicken Soup, must be pre-ordered by phone. Their classic Sichuan stir-fries--Flash-fried Kidney, Mao Xue Wang, Laziji (Chili Chicken), and Twice-cooked Pork--are all spectacular. They even serve Xian Shao Bai (Savory Steamed Pork Belly), a nearly lost classic that requires incredible knife skills and offers a perfect balance of sweet and savory. A Sweet Ending To wrap up, the owner's wife treated us to their Handmade Fermented Rice Soup (Laozao) with four-colored mini tangyuan (glutinous rice balls). Each color had a different natural flavor--sour fruit, rich sesame, and red bean--with no artificial coloring. The soup had a delicate fermented aroma and silky egg drops, providing a perfect ending to our feast. Closing Thoughts It has been a long time since I've had food this authentic that wasn't "scary spicy." I am truly grateful to find a restaurant that treats cooking as an art and operates with such a strong conscience and craftsmanship.
