Took my little sister out for hot pot on Chinese New Year. This is my first time here and I'm obsessed! There is a parking lot in the back around the corner. You can easily miss it. But we were seated instantly, there are so plenty of tables inside. And the interior is so pretty! I love their snack selection. This is my new favorite hot pot stop.

Having hot pot after a long journey is a great choice. I ordered medium spice, but as a Sichuan native, it didn't seem spicy enough, so I added a lot more chili. It tasted really great. Kids can enjoy the tomato flavor too, which is also quite good.

Went to eat here with the Hubs on New Year's Eve around 5:45 PM on a rainy night. Luckily there was no line when we arrived, but this place can definitely get busy, so I'd still expect a wait during peak times. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code, which was easy, and everything came out pretty quickly after we placed our order. They also have a sauce bar (extra cost) along with some sesame balls and rice crackers, which was a nice touch. Service was okay overall -- we did have to call our server a couple of times when we needed things. The inside of the restaurant is very pretty and clean for the most part, which made the experience enjoyable. Price-wise, it's on the average to slightly higher side for shabu, but overall a decent spot for hotpot, especially for special occasions or colder/rainy nights.

I've always passed by this but never had the chance to try it since it looked like it specialized only in spicy hot pot? But actually they had a lot more variety than I thought! This restaurant is located in the corner directly across from Garden Cafe. They have a small lot in the back and open street parking. The interior decor of everything was really nice! Very traditional Chinese and looks very unique compared to many Chinese restaurant these days. We ordered just a bone and spicy broth, along with several meat choices and veggies. Honestly the quality overall was pretty decent! I always love to get the imitation crab meat and the fish ball with roe, but the fish ball was disappointing haha. It wasn't as "fishy" as I liked it to be. Otherwise, this restaurant is very similar to Lao Ma Tou in Rowland Heights. I do notice that their brown sugar rice cake was definitely a lot more chewier and fresh here! Everything else was about the same. The side bar was clean and well in stock. The sesame balls and shrimp crackers were okay. Service was quick and helpful! It was a nice experience to try here.

Everything hotpot should be. Large tables, snack bar, delicious broth and lots of meat and veggie options. The interior of the restaruant feels homey and traditional, like having a hotpot in a different era. Our servers were attentive and always came promtly when we pressed the assistance button which I appreciated. I totally forgot to take photos of the food spread which is a huge failure on my part, but I thoroughly enjoyed all the offerings. The fatty beef belly was especilaly enjoyable.

A nice spacious place and could host a big party easily. Beef belly was the perfect ratio of meat to fat. All veggies looked clean and fresh. Can't go wrong with the soup base you decide on. Soup broth is amazing and very authentic. Each dish ordered was of quality and we left happy and very full. Bill was about $70 for 2 as this place is al la carte.

Nice hot pot place with snack bar. We came to celebrate a birthday and ordered a 3 soup hotpot. The spicy broth is definitely spicy, and the tomato broth was our favorite. Lots of variety of ingredients you can order, some of our go tos are mushrooms, cabbage, quail eggs, spam, tofu. We also ate the ziba (brown sugar rice cakes) which were slightly mediocre. You have to pay a small fee to access the snack bar but they have a variety of snacks, from shrimp chips to chicken feet to seaweed salad. They also have an ice jelly section, and a hot pot sauce section. Service was quick and polite, and store was pretty clean.

First time here after it's been opening for quite a while. Winter and hot pot is always a good match. Love the idea of 3 different soup bases instead of two. The spicy one was fine; tomato soup bases had a bold taste and loved it the most. Varieties of meat and veggies to choose from, which was important to hot pot. The beef and lamb had good quality. The trip was a little bit chewy... We did not overcook it. Service was fine. The place was not too loud. The decor reminded me of hot pot places in China. Parking was not too challenging.

Hotpot with 2 flavors. Bone broth and spicy

This hotpot place has some good quality meats and broth. The pricing is decent too for what you get. We got the bone broth and spicy. Both were very good and the selection was diverse. The veggies were excellent, especially the corn, napa cabbage and the lotus root. The meats were also great. The ribeye, short rib, shrimp paste with roe and pepper corn beef were great. The lamb and beef belly were also good. The sauce station is very simple and constantly restocked. The staff is very attentive and constantly looking to grab empty trays and deliver orders in a very quick timely manner. The decor is very neat and cultural relevant to the Chinese food.

Was craving hot pot and can't say this place hit the spot. [Food 3/5]: The meat quality did not meet my expectations. It was really tough to eat. We got the short rib first and I would not recommend it. We got a plate of the rib eye next and it was slightly better, but could be more tender. [Service 1/5]: The service was definitely needs improvement. I came during mid day at 4pm and the restaurant only had 3 tables. They brought out all our food pretty fast, but we were waiting for the soup for 15 minutes. We were joking how they must be making the soup super fresh or something. However when we asked, the chef totally didn't see the order. I also felt like the waiter could've checked for us, since we've been just sitting there waiting for the soup to come out to cook the raw ingredients. However, I felt like he was not attentive and not on the floor most of the time. [Ambiance 5/5]: I love the interior decor and I'm happy I didn't smell like hot pot after leaving. Also be aware that they charge $6 for the sauce bar. We were unaware prior so we felt like it was kinda sneaky they didn't tell us prior. Overall, I feel like there's definitely better hot pots around. It was a nice try, but I wouldn't come back.

We visited on a busy Friday evening but were seated immediately despite the crowd. The interior is stunning, with traditional decor elements like red lanterns, intricate woodwork, and inscribed wall plaques, creating a beautiful ambiance. We ordered the 2-broth combo: the house special (Szechuan pepper broth) and pork broth. We also tried the squid, fish combo, beef combo (which included the super tender crystal beef), mushroom combo, and two veggie combos. The broth flavors were excellent, but the highlight for me was the snack station where you could customize your dipping sauces and enjoy fruit and sesame balls for dessert. Service was friendly and quick. It's a fantastic spot for a romantic night out, thanks to the lovely decor and atmosphere.

Wanted to try this place because I saw it in the show Brothers Sun. The interior reminds you of China and it's pretty aesthetic as well. I tried their spicy broth and their white beef bone broth. The spicy broth was good, had a good flavor to it but was way too oily. The white beef bone broth reminded me of the one in hai ding lao, but lacked flavor. They have a sauce bar which you can pay for to make your own sauce. Not sure why it wasn't included. The meats were regular meats, nothing crazy. But their noodles here were super good, definitely getting it next time. Service was fast and friendly. Price wasn't bad as well. I'd come back to try other things on their menu.

This spot used to be one of my favorite places for Chinese hotpot when they first opened, but with so many hotpot spots in the SGV, I hadn't been back in a while. I saw that they were featured in "The Brothers Sun," so when my friends suggested we eat here recently, I was excited. We came on a weeknight, and it wasn't busy, but the store had this weird smell I couldn't ignore. After seating, we scanned the QR code to order and got the duo pot with half spicy/half bone broth. Their ingredient selection felt limited compared to other hotpot spots. The spicy broth was bland, so we asked the server for more flavor, and he gave us more chilis, oil, and salt mix to doctor it ourselves, which felt like a chemistry experiment. Even with that, the broth wasn't great. I always order youtiao (Chinese fried dough) at every hot pot place that has it, but this was one of the worst ones ever--cold, soggy, and limp. Definitely the worst. The sauce bar was small, items took a while to refill, and the fried sesame balls were literally raw inside. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, not how I remembered it. Goodbye XiaolongKan, I won't be back.

We'd been talking about getting Chinese food, and he picked Xiang La Hui, his go-to spot for classic Sichuan. I'd never been before, and was more than happy to try a new spot in the SGV. We met up at noon and stayed until the restaurant wrapped up lunch service and gently pushed us out the door, sometime around 2:30. The space was nice, instantly recognizable as a Chinese restaurant in Alhambra. It was pretty quiet the whole time, a good place for a leisurely catch-up. Service was fast and polite, though the combination of QR code ordering and poor Verizon service was a bummer. I had to cross the dining room to take down the wifi password posted on the opposite wall. We ordered a sizable spread for two people: Chong Qing fried chicken, dan dan noodles, wontons with chili oil, and pea tips with garlic. Everything was delicious, most of all the Chong Qing fried chicken, crispy nibbly bits of breaded chicken stir-fried with green onion and hot pepper. I love dan dan noodles and wontons, and thought both were great, if not the best I've had in the area. The pea tips were lovely, bright green and not spicy, but abundantly flavorful. I'd love to come back to Xiang La Hui and try more of the menu. It seems like a restaurant that does everything well, and I'll keep it in mind whenever I'm craving Sichuan.

I do have a pretty high spice tolerance, though, so my experience may be different from others. My friend thought the dishes were pretty spicy, so keep that in mind if you're more sensitive to heat. The fish was super tender and soft, and honestly pretty addictive to eat. The Toothpick Lamb was pretty much the same--you just pop one in your mouth and then immediately want another. My date had recommended this location, and it was worth the visit. I decided to order the Chengdu Noodles, with an added 3 level of heat. It came pretty spicy, but definitely burned really flavorbly. The spicy sauce were drenching the noodles with a delicious chunks of ground pork and bok choy. Also tried their chilled Mung Bean drink and that was really, really good. The booth seats were really comfortable. The staff was also friendly and smiled. They don't have physical menus here, so scan the sign thing that's on your table to place your order. Parking can be a challenge here. There's same level parking or under the parking structure. There's also other food places in the same plaza, if you want to visit as well.

SO and I crave the noodles (and fries surprisingly lol) from here!…read more Fast service and easy self ordering system. Easy parking in the underground lot. - chengdu zajiang noodles (Level 5 Extra Spicy) $13: a little too spicy to completely enjoy the dish, so will go back to lvl 3 next time lol. Love the texture of the noodles and all the flavors complement each other. - red chili sauce wonton (Lvl 3) $13: not memorable - chengdu fries $5: perfectly crisp on the outside, soft center. nicely seasoned with the same spice that's on chinese bbq - spicy beef noodles (lvl 3) $15: tasty, tender beef, would get again - hot & sour glass noodles (lvl 5): so simple with the fried egg. I usually like clear noodles because of the chew, but i actually prefer the egg noodle more here - mung bean drink / cup $2: simple, refreshing, affordable - cucumber salad $6: basic, palette cleanser, but not much flavor. wouldn't get again Will wanna try the steamed egg next time.

It's simple what they do well here, they make darn good food that tastes like homemade food (healthy and delicious), they price everything on the menu very reasonably (especially in these crazy times), and they treat all their customers like family/neighbors. Now that I've given you the why, let's move on to the good food. We usually order the beef noodle soup because of how tender the meat is and the soup & noodles are just perfect comfort food. And we always pair it with veggies (garlic cucumbers or water spinach) and pork dumplings are also amazing. Almost any of their braised meat rice/noodles are just really good (popular ones are braised pork rice or braised chicken leg rice). Interior space is also very roomy and comfortable for big groups or cozy meals Parking is pretty easy since they have a lot in their back entrance and they used to let you park underground as well but the building's new management started closing the gates at 6pm because they're just sad and unfriendly human beings lol but luckily the surrounding area has many places to park.

This restaurant is difficult to get parking because it is located inside a small plaza on the corner of Valley and Garfield. Fortunately, I found a parking space there. The restaurant is not particularly large, But there are many customers dining there. We ordered Garlic Cucumber, Braised Pork Rice, Garlic Water Spinach, Braised Beef Noodles, Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs, Garlic Beef Cubes, and two Thai Milk Teas. I'm able to speak with the owner, who informs me that this restaurant does not use MSG or other ingredients. Everything is fresh and healthy. After tasting the food and the Braised Beef Noodles, I can tell it's really tasty and light, with no harsh components that make you thirsty and want to drink more water. So far, my family and I have really enjoyed the food here. Definitely will return and try other delicious foods next time.

Friend dragged me here in SGV and wow, this spot slaps. We shared the 跷脚牛肉, 自贡跳跳蛙 and 樟茶鸭. The beef…read moresoup was crazy fragrant, super numbing but not just spicy-for-show, with tender slices that actually tasted like beef, not just chili oil. The jumping frog was legit--bouncy, fresh, lots of bones but that's part of the fun, we were just gnawing away lol. 樟茶鸭 had this deep smoky vibe, skin a bit chewy but super flavorful. Portions solid, great for sharing. If you're into real Sichuan flavors, this place is a must. )

Authentic Sichuan Food, Great Atmosphere, and Surprisingly Affordable…read more My husband and I recently visited Pepper Tavern in San Gabriel and had a fantastic experience. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere with red lanterns, outdoor seating, and plenty of TVs and projector screens showing World Cup matches. It feels lively without being overly loud, making it perfect for both group gatherings and casual dinners. Our favorite dishes included: * Jianghu Chili Chicken 江湖辣子鸡 - Extremely spicy and packed with flavor. The lotus root added a nice crunch. * Spicy Stir Fried Clams 辣炒蛤蜊 - Fresh, flavorful, and one of the first dishes we finished. * Sherred Potato 麻辣土豆丝 - Tangy, spicy, and very addictive. * Hand Shredded Cabbage 手撕包菜 - Simple but executed perfectly with great wok flavor. * Chicken Cartilage Skewers 鸡脆骨串 - Nicely grilled and not overly tough. * Sausage Skewer 王中王串 - Classic and satisfying. * Spicy Crawfish 麻辣小龙虾 - Fresh crawfish with plenty of flavor. One thing worth mentioning is the spice level. My husband is a huge fan of spicy food and has tried many Sichuan restaurants throughout Los Angeles. He said this was one of the spiciest places he has visited so far. The biggest surprise was the value. We ordered all of these dishes for under $100 and had enough leftovers to enjoy for two more days. We'll definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Sichuan cuisine in the San Gabriel Valley.

Very tasty Shanghainese restaurant!…read more Parking can be difficult because their parking lot is pretty small but there is street parking available! Service was ok and not too attentive or friendly Inside was pretty spacious and had plenty of indoor seating but there isn't outdoor seating. Menu had a good variety of appetizers, main dishes, rice and noodle dishes. Pricing was reasonable ($15-$20+). The Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet ($18.00) was delicious! Huge pieces of crispy and perfectly fried fish! Not too oily or salty! Really enjoyed how the sauce had a perfect balance of sweet and sour! This was 8/10 Walnut Shrimp ($26) was so good! The walnuts were crunchy and not too sweet! There were plenty of huge shrimps that were lightly covered with mayonnaise and not too overly fried! This was 8/10 Kung Pao Chicken ($16) was mediocre. It was quite salty and a little too spicy. The chicken was too dry and the sauce was too salty. This was 5/10 Stir Fry Beef with Snow Pea ($18) was pretty good. The beef was quite tender and the snow peas were very sweet and crispy! The sauce wasn't too salty so this dish was enjoyable! This was 7/10 Seaweed Fried Fish ($20) was spectacular! Huge pieces of fried fish wrapped with seaweed! Very crispy and delicious! Not too overly fried or salty! Definitely recommend! This was 9/10 Shanghai Rice Cake ($15) was pretty good. Big pieces of rice cakes that were very chewy and soft! Really enjoyed the sauce not being too salty or greasy! This was very flavorful and delicious! This was 8/10 Tea Smoked Duck - half ($33) was ok. Wish the duck was more crispy and had more meat! A little pricey since there wasn't much duck and it just tasted ok. The meat was a little dry but the hoisin sauce and bun provided made it a little more enjoyable. This was 6/10
