The host, and the server were extremely nice and welcoming. We were told how Xochi won two years in a roll of best restaurant in Houston. The presentation of the food was astonishing. The food itself was delicious. Their cocktails were also something to brag, all good. The highlight was there was a rat, sí rata, running around. I saw the rat coming under a table across and came to our table; so I naturally jumped. Then a minute later the table across screamed. I can say, this was a dinner and a show lol. Oh Xochi, like any other Ortega restaurant I find myself asking, "How I love thee, let me count the ways" But before we get there I want to touch on the one thing that for me, was a bit of a let down on what could have indeed been a top notch experience. - Service. The Captain's, if that is what they refer to them there, had the appropriate service procedures down for the most part. They were urbanely polite and professional w/o being talky. (Which I prefer, dont ask me about my weekend or what im doing that evening, as likely I am already discussing this w/ my dining companion.) - The back waiters, bussers, food runners or what have you need some schooling. Food was called out / auctioned off, the gentleman was served first, and "open bodied" serving must be something that is not standard there. But then again, perhaps that style of service is the theme, though for me it did not match the price point. We had a great many dishes due to the Houston Restaurant Week menu, I did the vegetarian options, whist he chose a much more carnivorous route. We enjoyed every single bite on the beautiful dog friendly patio. I would say the one down side would have been my carrots and potatoes were both hard in the center. So may wonderful places can cook a steak to perfection or work true miracles with seafood, but cannot fully cook a dang root vegetable. I cannot be the only vegetarian crying out in frustration on that one. This place is so unique. They serve insects with their dishes but I opted out from that. I highly recommend their goat tacos. The meat just falls apart when you take a bite of their cubed meat. Everything tastes fresh, including their taco shell. I only wish they were firm so they didn't fall apart when eating the tacos. But nonetheless, the food was really good. Outstanding service and food. I was dressed very casually, but greeted warmly and seated immediately. All service was prompt and competent. I would like to take the opportunity to compliment Jari, my server, who assisted me with my selections, explained the various a la carte mole options available, and which mole would match which dishes, etc. She also knows the drink menu and helped me with a good anejo tequila with Sangrita put-back, which was great. The food here was pretty good. The guac tasted like it was not housemade, but the squash salad was literally one of the best salads I have ever had...ever. I will be back for the salad for sure. My husband and I moved to cypress and we don't venture into town as often as we would like! Planned a date night and we were really excited to try this place. Arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation and to our surprise they sat us right away. BUT there was some confusion and they had to clean off tables before we could be seated. We were provided 2 different menus, a HRW menu and a regular menu. The HRW menu had great reviews and they give you 4 different choices. The problem with that is no one spoke to us about the differences and the menu is a little hard to understand since we are not familiar with the different ingredients etc. anyway - it was a bit confusing and hard to decipher the differences. We ended up ordering a few appetizers of the menu and picked the 2 most popular HRW menus. The grilled octopus was so good and the roasted oysters were just okay. Both dishes came out room temperature. For a person that loves fresh, hot food, that was a disappointment. The drinks I ordered were a gin/mezcal drink and the mango chile! Both were yummy!! I have been a fan of mezcal since we traveled to Tulum and the drinks at Xochi were spot on! The HRW menu was okay. The mole had great flavors but cold. Ceviche was really yummy, but my husbands charizo thing had too much bread and no charizo. The duck enchiladas were super dry and my Barbacoa or meat was just cold so it was hard to enjoy. The roasted carrots and the puff it was served with was warm but no flavor. The best thing about the HRW menu was the dessert. The churro was fresh and hot and full of flavor. I will say that the waiter was not helpful... didn't explain the menu, didn't refill our drinks, took too long to remove plating for next course, had to ask to order a drink & when asked to go into detail about the menu, he tapped his pen on my husband's dish and used it as a pointer... is that sanitary? So I went to Xochi to celebrate my 5th anniversary with my husband. It was great! Our server was really attentive(forgot his name tho) i drank their sangria which was really tasty. We order the oysters a la plancha, the queso de rancho, taquitos dorados, and enchiladas de mole rojo. I can say every single dish touch the spot! The mole is amazing! It tastes homemade. I can almost say it taste just like moms mole who makes it from scratch. Also we got a complimentary dessert and a really sweet card for our anniversary. We went last nt for a friend's b day dinner with a group of 8 girls, mostly moms. We deserved this night out. The food I have zero complaints abt. Everything was excellent. The reason I gave it a 1 star is 1) we had drinks at the bar across the hallway at the Marquis. When we walked in, they took our drink order and limited us to 1 bottle of wine. When we asked why, they said because we were drunk. Excuse me?!!!!! We had a drink each at the lobby bar. 2) They tell us we need to order appetizers before another bottle of wine can be served. 1 bottle of wine for 8 ppl does not even constitute a full glass. Maybe 1/3 of a glass. We ordered 6 appetizers. They were delicious. Again, no complaint on food. I ask for a mojito and I get it. We order our main courses. I ask for a tequila shot and get it. Finish my course and ask for another mojito and the waiter tells me I can't have another drink til dessert or until I drink more water. I'm sorry. I didn't know I was being babysat?! I order dessert. They serve me another mojito. Then I walk to the restroom and in the stall, there is a puddle of water. As I squat my shoe slips and I fall. My $695 Stuart Weiztman shoe breaks. I go to the hostess and tell her and her reply is "oh were you in the larger stall?" I say yes and her reply is "oh yeah we have been having an issue with water there." Wait, so y'all knew of this issue yet it hasn't been fixed?!!!!!!! She tells me they sell glue at the sundries section of the hotel. She wants me to super glue my shoes. We are platinum elite members of Marriott and I have never been treated this way before at a Marriott restaurant. They're practice of how much one can drink and eat is unacceptable. We were spending the night at the hotel so we weren't even driving. I have never had any establishment bully us into buying food to enjoy a spirit. read more

The food here was excellent. I ordered the duck and my boyfriend ordered the quail. Both were very flavorful. The decor is very nice. Parking was $8 for valet, but only if you tell them that you are going to the restaurant rather than the hotel. The service was absolutely terrible to the point where I will not come back. The waiter was almost entirely absent, making me change my mind about ordering dessert out of fear that he would never return with our bill. This is a Mexican restaurant for people who like authentic Mexican. Amazing flavors and colors that take you back to your best memories. I had the Codorniz (quail) and was very satisfied and happy at the end. Deliciously made wrapped in bacon and filled with chorizo and a unique corn bread on the side... have to have it again! I'm so glad I was able to try this place. We came right between lunch and dinner and the restaurant was fairly empty so it was quick to be seated. We were greeted promptly by a service assistant who brought waters. Good service, polite server. I had a hard time choosing because to be honest I had no clue what alot of things were so I kind of just chose based off of yelp. Food came out really quickly and it was beautifully plated and delicious as well! Hugo knows his food. Everything we tried was flavorful. Valet parking is $6 instead of $20 - you just have to show your receipt. We came for a double date on Saturday night. The place was busy but service was attentive. The waiter made recommendations - tetela, beet salad, squash puree, the slow cooked pig which we all enjoyed very much. The one thing I wasn't impressed with was their Hongos (wild mushrooms, mole amarillo, masa dumplings, green beans). I loved our chocolate pudding dessert. Great food and cocktails. We stopped in before a conference for a quick and I mean ASAP lunch - and were told there were no tables available. We told them we would be in and out in 30 min or less. They said we are full. I notice every single table is open including every spot at the bar. I asked if we could sit at the bar, finally the hostess is like oh yeah, open seating...maybe lead with that instead of turning people away lol. Food & drinks were great. This restaurant is inside the downtown Marriott hotel. You can either park in the hotel parking garage and get your pass validated, or find some street parking. There are entrances though the hotel/GRB walkway and from the street. My sister and I went here for a late lunch one Saturday and ordered a bunch of dishes from the 2 for $22 menu to share. Some of the dishes are garnished with insects, so make sure to ask your server first if you're a skittish eater. The Horchata iced coffee was just ok. Maybe it was too watery from the ice or maybe their coffee was sour, but it was not my cup of tea. The chargrilled oysters: good. The sea bass and tuna: yum. The scallops come with a green broth that they pour in front of you: Mmm, I want more. The chorizo oval masa cakes: so good. They come with grasshoppers that just add a nice fried crunch. Just don't look them in the eyes! The crispy goat tacos are a must try. I didn't expect it to be my favorite. For dessert, we got the corn cakes and tamarind cake. They sounded interesting from the menu, but next time I would try something else. read more

I went to Xochi for their holiday lunch special today and it was fabulous. I normally wouldn't order a burger here, but their Xochi burger was calling to me with beef, chorizo, avocado, and Oaxacan string cheese. I didn't even have to look at what else was in it before deciding to get it. Our waiter Diego was very attentive and we were never left waiting long to order or for our food to arrive. I didn't order the vegetarian options on the menu today, but I've noticed that H-Town Restaurant Group restaurants are quite vegetarian friendly and you can ask for separate veggie menu. read more

Took someone here to celebrate a birthday. Very nice ambiance. Food and service were slightly above average. I had the ribeye which was covered in mole sauce. I regretted not ordering the skirt steak but that waitress said the ribeye was much better. I made reservations via the companies website which asked if it was a special occasion for which I checked the birthday box yet the waitress brought the check and seemed unaware it was a special occasion (although she walked up during a happy birthday toast with the champagne we had just ordered). Overall experience was not as good as Hugo's or Backstreet and probably won't go back. I probably should have ordered something with more authentic Mexican flair rather than a steak. read more
