We ordered: Potato croquettes -crispy on the outside and delicious on the inside Beef cheek empanadas -flavorful shredded mean and a flaky delicious puff pastry Cold sweet potatoes- delicious with olive oil Shrimp in lemon- fresh shrimp in amazing sauce Chorizo with potatoes- absolutely amazing Table bread- warm delicious with the best tasting olive oil I've ever had We finished our meal with cheesecake and flan. The cheesecake was delicious, but I was disappointed in the flan. Formerly known to be in Rice Village, Mi Luna reopened and nestled their cozy nest right in the heart of Montrose Collective! The first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful interior space. The ambience and the service were also phenomenal. Friendly staff, from the host, to our server Ray, everything was exceptional! I love that the space offers a more cozy and intimate vibe rather than a grand luxe upscale feeling. It's a place where friends can gather who haven't connected in awhile, or going on an impromptu date night with your boo. Had a great experience here! The only bad thing was that I couldn't make a reservation and were 9 people. I'm really thankful they were still able to arrange a table for us outside because we were celebrating our friends anniversary. I really appreciate Filly for taking such good care of us. He was very attentive he explained the menu, recommended some dishes since it was our first time here and even brought a small anniversary dessert for our friends which was a really nice detail. We ordered the paella and the patatas bravas, and they were really good. I also like the amor morado drink it has lavender and it was so good! And their margaritas were really good too. Even though we got a table outside, I feel like we couldn't enjoy it 100% because it was very hot and we were a little crowded. But I understand since we didn't have a reservation. First time trying Mi Luna because we were craving paella, and what a great find! The service was excellent, and our server made some fantastic recommendations. We ordered a variety of dishes, but the absolute standout was the Rabo de Toro a la Sevillana (braised oxtail with chickpeas). It was incredibly flavorful, fall apart tender, and easily the best dish. I'd come back just for that. I really wanted to love the paella since it was the main reason we visited, but unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The rice was overcooked, and while it may have been because the restaurant was very busy, it's such a signature dish that I was hoping for more. I mentioned it to our server, who was gracious, appreciated the feedback, and surprised us with a complimentary flourless chocolate cake. Normally I wouldn't order a flourless chocolate cake, but wow it was absolutely delicious. It was rich yet delicate, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet or heavy. Overall, we had a wonderful date night and would definitely return. One recommendation: make a reservation and request indoor seating if possible. Had a lil dinner hangout with some friends from my edc group at mi luna in Houston. It's located in a really nice area in the Montrose collective. Parking is pretty easy, there's a big garage that is pretty cheap, or you can park for free in the neighborhood. They have patio seating available if you wish to sit outdoors. This is a Spanish tapas restaurant, and their menu is very big it was pretty overwhelming to look at. Luckily for us, Richard locked in and ordered everything for us. If we were able to come a bit earlier we could've ordered during happy hour which has a lot of good discounts on their tapas What we ordered: - patatas bravas with chorizo - by far our fav dish of the night. The sauce is so so good. It's a must get, but I would pass on the chorizo next time - albondigas morunas - I enjoyed the lamb meatballs with cinnamon onions, couscous was good too - Plato de jamon Serrano - good app, love how you can customize it any way with the cheese, fruits, and olives - gambas al ajillo - shrimp in lemon garlic olive oil and red chili peppers, solid but not anything life changing or a must order - calamares a la plancha - grilled squid with roasted garlic and olive oil, very citrusy and unique - pemientos de padron - tasted just like air, really is just a Carrie for the lemon aioli which was really good - pescaditos Fritos - same as the pimento peppers. Top notch experience from start to finish. We came for the brunch but ended up mostly ordering from the regular menu because we wanted true tapas style. Everything we ordered was fantastic! Some standouts for me were the patatas bravas, croquettes, garlic mushrooms, and carne skewer. Service by Aurelio was also fantastic and the bartender made a good Bloody Mary. The spot itself is large, bright and clean with lots of inside and outside seating. Parking can be an issue, but we did manage to find a spot on the street. It was a sad day when Mi Luna shut down in Rice Village back in 2018 after 20 years. This was a spot that many Houstonians frequented in the area quite often. They pronounced then they would be back. Well, it may have taken a bit longer than expected, but in October 2024, they reopened at this new location. Parking and Vibe The restaurants in the area offer valet parking and this establishment will validate that ticket. There's a garage nearby however I'm not certain they will validate garage parking. There's also selective street parking around the neighborhood if you are patient or arrive in the lower demand hours. The decor is great offering a Spanish and slight Mediterranean vibe. It feels upscale without being pretentious and the overall atmosphere is pretty relaxing. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. I've yet to sit inside because it's been fantastic out the times we've been. I'd imagine the patio is a little quieter as well during the busiest hours. Food & Drink They were always know for their great tapas and particularly their vast Happy Hour menu. We've been a few times at this point and have tried pretty much the entire happy hour menu while augmenting a few main entrees in as well. A few of the groups favorites have been: Patatas Bravas, Croquettas De Patatas, Bomba De Queso, Albondigas Maroqui, all of the empanadas are great - the Beef Cheek Empanadas from the main menu is a go to for me, Toasta De Salmon Ahumado, the Gambias Al Ajillo is a must with some of the olive oil and bread. We've also had Paella Valenciana, which was great but a bit small. For drinks, there's a decent selection during HH such as the Clara beer. Mango Ahumado, Piña Loca, and my go to - the house sangría. I recommend getting a pitcher of it as it is plenty for a table of 4 while enjoying rounds of tapas. Service The service has always been top notch. The waiters are very knowledgeable about most of the dishes and will offer plenty of suggestions. They are circle around many times checking to make sure you are good or need to put more orders in or refill water glasses. They have food runners to make sure the dishes are coming out timely and there is staff that are consistently picking up empty plates. Pricing Overall, I subjectively find this place to be excellent value when with groups of friends. The tapas during happy hour are smaller but with plenty of options and a couple orders, you'll walk satisfied. I'd probably recommend one or two mains if you really have an appetite or a group of four or more. Overall Everyone we've brought has been very satisfied with the food, service, and pricing. Tried this place on a happy hour weekday! I love the whole ambience and decoration of the restaurant, it gives Barcelona vibes. I sat at the bar as I usually do for happy hours and tried the pan con tomate and that one had a huge portion of tomato so flavorful and fresh with olive oil and basil in top; wanted to get an extra but I had ordered more stuff so needed to leave some room in my belly. I also had the croquetas de pollo and the veal tongue (Ive had beef tongue before so I wasn't too scared to try this one) it was cooked to perfection; tongue meat can become too chewy and dry if you overcook but they did it perfectly so tasty and just the right consistency (10/10). I also had to try the sangria and the vino tinto, they're both similar as in that they use wine but I'm more of a Sangria lover. I need to come back to try the brunch the bartender told me about it and honestly sounds so yummy, he was super nice and attentive. This was a lovely tapas restaurant! We stopped by for happy hour. The benefit of such an exhaustive HH menu is that you can try so many different items! Our server Ray was really kind and explained the menu concept to us and was so helpful in pointing out some delicious orders. We decided on several happy hour offerings - the chicken and beef empanadas, croquetas de patatas, bombas de queso, toasta de lengua, and a full order of the raba de toro (oxtail). For drinks I had the happy hour house sangria and piña loca. The sangria came out first and was so refreshing and with such a lovely aroma and spice. The piña loca was more of a miss for me - it tasted a bit like pineapple candy and was overly sweet. We had all our happy hour appetizers next. I was a bit surprised at how small the portion sizes are - keep in mind that the happy hour orders are half of the tapas plates, which are already small and designed for sampling. We split the empanadas and I adored the beef cheek empanada - the meat was seasoned so nicely and was deliciously soft. I also really liked the flavoring of the toasta de lengua. The croquetas and bombas had a lovely crunch to them. The oxtail came out next and the meat really was coming off the bone - so deliciously soft and well seasoned. It came with a side of bread and dipping oil that was a fantastic complement. We were amazed at how fast the service was. The staff were quick to fill up our waters and Ray checked on us the whole time we were there and took trouble to make sure we had a great experience. It's quite spacious with both an indoor area and relaxed outdoor patio. Overall this was a really tasty restaurant and I'm glad we got to try it. The food was hit or miss, what was good was really good and the okay was just meh. The calamari, patatas bravas, and the moorish pancakes were the star of the show! The potatoes were drenched in a spicy sauce and were nice and soft. The moorish pancakes looked really interesting and different. They had just enough sweetness and were very light and airy. Our drinks were also pretty tasty, I had a refreshing cucumber drink that had prosecco and my friend got a mango drink that she drank quickly. The salmon dish and the French toast that my friends ordered said was pretty average. Additionally, they decided to clean the air vents right above us as we were eating.. My husband and I stopped by Mi Luna for a light pre-dinner sip and snack, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that they offer all-day happy hour on Mondays--a great bonus! To start the restaurant is a lot larger than I expected with plenty seating inside and outside. There is also seating at the bar. They also offer specials throughout the week and all day happy hour on Mondays which I was at! Umpt shoutout to our waiter he was awesome! He was attentive and provides great recommendations! Stopped by with a friend on Saturday, we didn't have a reservation and they were pretty busy so there was about a 40 minute wait. The hostess and our waitresses were pretty nice and attentive. The concept of the restaurant is nice, they offer various small plates to share with the table. They started us off with complimentary bread and olive oil, the bread was very good and fluffy. We then ordered the gambas al ajillo and patatas verdes. The shrimp was delicious and the sauce on then potatoes was delicious and flavorful. Enjoyed tapas and drinks with my colleagues for a Girls' Night and had a lovely time! The menu is rather vast and a bit intimidating due to the sheer amount of options, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. We opted to stick to the tapas menu so we could try a small amount of everything, which I would recommend to all newcomers. My favorites were the Bombas de Queso (goat cheese balls with caramelized leeks and raisins), Pinchos de Carne (skewered beef with rice- super tender!), and Patatas Bravas (crisp potatoes in brava sauce). Save room because their drink and dessert menus are equally large. We shared the churros and flourless chocolate cake (both were nice). I'm also on an espresso martini kick recently and was happy to find a good one here to have after my meal. The interior is very intimate; perhaps verging on too much, since I felt boxed in on all sides by the neighboring tables. But the decor is aesthetically appealing and there's a small dance floor off to the corner diners can use when live musicians come to play. Our server was super friendly and polite, but forgot to put my drink order through on two separate occasions. We ordered mostly off of the happy hour menu and shared. Portion sizes are small. You get a complimentary large bread with deliciously flavored dipping oil. Me and my friends got the salmon ahumado, pulpo con patatas, pinchos pollo, pinchos morunas, and the patatas bravas to share. The bread service is also worth mentioning because I really enjoyed the warm fluffy pita and their seasoned olive oil to dip. The garlic, parsley, and chili in the oil were delightful. (7.5/10) The salmon ahumado was essentially lox with arugula, and a berry vinaigrette served with brioche bread. I am not a huge fan of lox so this was not my favorite dish, but I really liked the brioche. It was super soft and rich and tasted even better dipped in the olive oil. (5/10) The pulpo con patatas was yummy and the octopus was cooked very well. It was tender and the dish was a nice light bite. Though there were not very strong flavors, I think that this let the octopus be the star of the dish and I would recommend this to other octopus lovers. (6.5/10) The pinchos pollos was pretty good. The chicken kabob had a good char flavor to it while still being moist and I enjoyed the sauce it was paired with, but I thought the mixture of cinnamon raisin and onion was a bit odd. The hint of sweetness that it added wasn't bad, just a bit unexpected and the saffron rice was pretty standard. (6/10) The pinchos muronas were decent. The lamb kabob itself was well cooked and seasoned. I just thought the couscous was not my favorite to pair with the meat and was quiet bland (5.5/10) The patatas bravas were very yummy. I thought the potatoes could've been crispier, but overall I am a sucker for a crispy potato and some yummy sauce. I would definitely recommend ordering these! (6/10) Overall, the atmosphere is super lively and warm and I would come try it out if you were looking to try some tapas. There is a good amount of street parking around the area as well as a garage. Be careful parking though as it is the Montrose area and they taking towing seriously. read more
