Update: Robert Brown of the California office just sent me an email with a "settlement recommendation" for an entire carton of rare books that was lost by Xpress Moving. Their recommendation was a compensation of $36 dollars. This is for an entire carton of rare hardcover books. This should give you an idea of what low-lives these people are. Again, do not believe their estimate (especially if it comes from Winston), do not trust them with your merchandise (they lost an entire carton on me and it took them months to offer me a lousy $36 compensation, which I refused). I am disgusted by my experience with Xpress Moving. My husband and I were quoted $1300 for our move from Brooklyn NY to Portland Oregon. Once the truck was loaded the price jumped to $4200!!! I couldn't believe it. I clearly described everything we owned to Dimitry but the quote he gave us wasn't even close. They picked up in NY 2 weeks before our move so that we would only be without our things in OR for about 2 weeks. When I called them to get the exact delivery time (3 days before our delivery date) I was told that our stuff still had not left Brooklyn!! They delivered 3 1/2 weeks after the delivery date. When our things finally arrived we couldn't believe the condition they were in. Furniture was destroyed, boxes smashed, etc. resulting in approximately $4000 worth of damage. We have been trying to rectify this situation since the delivery in Sept. 2010. After sending pictures and a detailed description of all the items damaged, as they requested, we were offered only $279 as compensation! That is an insult no matter how you look at it, but we were forced to agree or get nothing at all. Now 6 months later, they haven't even sent us the $279. They have come up with every excuse in the book why we haven't received the money. "It's in the mail... we had the zip code wrong, we're sending it again... not sure what happened to the check but we'll credit you credit card instead..." We have yet to receive a check or have our credit card credited and I have lost all patience. I have never dealt with such a dishonest and unprofessional company. I was out of the country when my previous mover cancelled. I contacted XPress Vanlines to see if they would be able to do this and explained I only had email access. I sent Fred the information, in writing, several times and they continually got the information for the move incorrect (they were going to send my things to CA instead of NJ, they kept writing different towns than what I had given them in writing, they kept asking for the same information over and over again, and then said it was a surprise when I reminded them there was a 3rd stop even though it was clearly in the initial email). I am glad I was not able to speak to them on the phone because I can't imagine how much worse it would have been without the paper trail. I am glad I avoided using this company since everything they had done leads me to believe the move would not have gone smoothly and now that i have seen other reviews regarding pressure tactics with asking for more money and the unreliability I definitely feel better about my decision not to go with them. I am also surprised at the bad reviews Xpress has received. I ended up using these guys for a move from Westchester, NY to Allen, TX and I was really satisfied. It's very tricky to find a reliable, honest mover, especially for an out of state move. Look online and you read about all sorts of nightmares people have had with moving companies - from not showing up to surprise charges that are double what you were quoted after all your belongings are on their truck. You can never be too careful. I initially chose a different company and had a bad experience with them - it scared me enough to find someone else...luckily, I had enough time to do that and called these guys. Fred, Ronnie and Josh were great to deal with. No hassle, no fuss, no worries. I was skeptical from my last experience, and Fred did a great job reassuring me I'd made a good choice. He was easy to reach and always there to answer questions. They have also done many moves from NY to the DFW area. I packed my own stuff, so I can't comment on that service. They showed up on time on the big day and their movers were very careful, efficient, hard working and friendly. They got the job done quickly; and even with my 4th floor walk up, made it look easy. I had read these guys are pet-friendly, and they certainly were very mindful and considerate of mine while they were in and out. In any case, a piece of advice if you have pets: Please crate your cats / leash dogs while the movers are working. The last thing you need on moving day is a pet escaping. They were very up front about how they charge (by cubic foot) and showed us the amount of room they had inside the truck. I ended up going slightly over the alotted room and ended up deciding last minute to leave behind / give away a few items, learning that it would cost more to move them than buy new. At least I was told beforehand and wasn't hit with any surprises. They also did a good job with loading and fitting my items in that space. Moving stuff halfway across the country isn't cheap, but their price was still right in line with others I was quoted. One thing I'd suggest is always getting an in-home estimate. They were willing to do one, but due to time constraints, we agreed on just going off a previous quote I received elsewhere. I was given an 8-14 day time frame from leaving my old apartment in NY for everything to reach my destination in TX. This is pretty reasonable and about the standard for a long-distance move. A few days before they arrived, I received calls from the driver updating me and giving me a time when they would arrive. No guessing, wondering or worrying. Again, they showed up exactly when promised. Different guys, but with the same courtesy, efficiency and care that was taken as when they loaded up my stuff before coming here. Nothing broken, damaged, or lost. Thanks to them, a big part of the stressful experience of moving was nothing to stress about at all. read more

The movers were very nice, early and all business, which is exactly what we wanted. They worked quickly, moved everything very smoothly, no issues at all. Horrible customer service and experience. Will absolutely give you the run around, lie, and hang up on you or get defensive when you confront them about where your furniture is and why it hasn't been delivered. If you speak to Dimitry or Fred, don't trust a word they say. No matter what rate they give you, they will try and upcharge you after loading your stuff on to the truck. I moved a very small amount of bedroom furniture from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. They gave me a date and a time frame for when my furniture would be delivered. When I called a day or two before the given date to get an update, it turned out they had screwed up, and my furniture hadn't even made it on a truck out of Brooklyn...which meant at least another week and a half before my stuff would arrive. To his credit, Thomas was fairly courteous and apologetic. Fred was a true jerk and told me I was annoying, there was nothing he could do, and hung up on me. Steve, the dispatcher on the truck, promised several different delivery days and times, always calling to say he was going to have to push it to the following day. I was understanding the first time because I know you can't always predict what may happen on the road, but after the third time, I was peeved. Finally he said he would be there the next day at 6:30am. I was up at 6am to be ready for them...they didn't show up until noon. No apology. For a while no one would answer their phone and I had no idea what was going on. When I called the Xpress directly to see if they had any info, I was told by Fred that he didn't know where they were or could be and they "guy who would be able to check wasn't as his desk"." Total liars. Horrible service. Rude. There were moments I wasn't sure I would ever see my furniture again. Stay away stay away stay away. There are plenty of other moving companies out there who are worth paying $200-300 more for. read more

Terrible, horrible experience with this company. Moved items from NJ to CA. They told me my items would be delivered within the first week of January, so I flew to NJ to pack my items onto their truck in mid December. My items were not shipped to CA until SIX WEEKS LATER- last week in January. I had nothing in my apartment for over six weeks as they held my items beyond the 21 days they are even legally allowed to. No apologies. They told me they never made a promise on delivery date, which they did. No copies of paperwork were provided regarding delivery date. Half the time my emails to them got bounced back. The worst part was how rude and unapologetic the office staff was once I was on to their scheme. Save yourself the energy and hire someone else, or get a guaranteed delivery date in writing (which they won't honor anyway!!!). O and watch out for bogus, unexplained charges they give you when they pick up for tolls etc back to their NY warehouse, nearly an additional $150. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS UNPROFESSIONAL JOKE OF A COMPANY! I went against all the negative reviews and gave this moving service a chance. I called several companies to get an estimate for a move from NY to California with a stop in NJ. I spoke with FRED from the sales department and gave him a meticulously detailed list of what we were moving. I said I would call back once I confirmed this was the company we wanted to use. After that I got numerous calls every DAY from him asking if I was going to book. I should of saw this as a sign of desperation but in all honesty he seemed nice and I decided to give him the business. HUGE MISTAKE! And before I continue, I AM NOT one to knock anyone's business, but when you are paying for a service and in return get high levels of rudeness and unprofessional individuals then something MUST BE DONE. So I finally book with FRED and GAVE HIM A $50 DEPOSIT for a $1469 job that included to pick up a bedroom set in NJ (queen headboard, mattress, night sand, two dressers and one mirror) then stop in Queens to pick up (queen bed, book shelf, TV, TV stand, small kitchen table and 6 boxes of clothes), and then proceed to take it to California. FRED said that half would be paid at pick up and second half upon delivery in California. Because the person who would be in the Queens location would not be home until after 5pm, we confirmed that NJ would be the first stop. FRED tells me that it's all set up and the price would be $1469. He sends me an email and we are all set. The next day comes and I get a call from the mover who is coming to get the stuff asking if he could stop in QUEENS first. I politely explain the situation and he proceeds to say that he will just head to NJ. I get he wanted to check but if this was confirmed already then stick to the original plan!! Anyways, that's not the worst part of this whole thing. The guy gets to NJ where I am, and I introduce myself and he asks me who is paying me. He shows me an estimate which he says was not the final price, and I say I will pay for half now and half upon delivery in California because that was the agreement spoken with my sales rep, FRED! And this is what I did not like. I am Doing business with this person and when speaking to someone I would NEVER USE MY HANDS, but this guy goes and touches my arm. And every time he speaks he continues to touch my arm,my shoulder, my hand! In my head I am like okay maybe he didn't realize what he just did so I let it slide. I ask him to call the company so I can speak to someone about the job. I ask him to get Fred on the phone so he could tell him in depth what we agreed. You know what he does? He calls the company and speaks with FRANK who according to him is the dispatcher, his boss. And he tells him that I want to speak with Fred and he says "oh, Fred left on vacation today? Oh okay". He tells me Fred isn't available which is an obvious lie because when we called for Fred later he was at the office. So what type of people am I dealing with? Anyways, I get on the phone with this person, FRANK, and he says that the price that Fred gave me was only an estimate not a flat rate so I tell him that was not the agreement and if he could ask Fred to clear this up we could solve this or to check my order. He says that the job was gonna be more money. Now we get off the phone and the guy goes ahead and touches my arm again which honestly id have enough of and it made me completely uncomfortable and NO PROFESSIONAL service should have their employees touch clients, and he goes on to say that the job would be more money and unless I was gonna go with him to QUEENS I had to pay more. And then he starts saying that interstate moves work a different way and I respond that in the past I have moved from NJ To NY and he says that was not interstate moving, which he obviously needs to get his facts straight because they are two completely different states!! Anyways I tell him, before we continue to have this conversation please stop touching me and then we can proceed and he looked at me and said. "ARE YOU SERIOUS??" And I said, obviously! And he looked at me and left! I call the company to speak to the owner or boss to report the incident and so they can see what type of individuals are representing them and I speak with FRANK and when I start explaining this to him he hangs up the phone on me!!!!! I call back again to make sure my card is refunded and speak to an older man who starts shouting that because I was touched didn't mean anything and I tell him to get me the owner of the company on the phone and he puts me on with FRANK again. Frank starts mocking the fact that me being touched was not a big deal! I ask Him for the owners name and he only gives me a first name which is TAMAS and says he is on vacation until the 17th-will post how that goes. They should not be trusted with your personal belongings. Train your employees the right way!!! read more

To update I had to involve my lawyer. And all the converations were recorded for my records as suggested. I am still waiting for my belongings to be delivered and will update on the condition of them. Finding so many broken and damaged things, they were such a bad choice. Don't make the same mistake I did. Absolutely do not use this company. Fred was great, polite got a great price. I was told yes my stuff would be there by a certain date, this was very important to me bc I work from my studio, I'm a seamstress. It is now is 18 days later, I have been unable to work. My dad an old military man is livid and insisting I file with BBB, Better Business Bureau. Also apon getting my bank statement I noticed my card had been over charged. I called Fred explain whats going in, he asked for proof, which I understand, emailed him a and Fred said would note it and adjust it, Thank you! Then a guy named Frank calls me back and says no its the tip you left, I gave the moving guys a tip, yes but they insisted cash because they did not want pay taxes on it( I mean I get it) so I tipped in cash. So I explain this to Frank and he is so rude telling me this is untrue( not his choice words) I'm looking at the paperwork they gave me and it clearly states they were charging my card for half the cost of the full amount not the amount that clearly shows in my account. Frank hangs up on me. I run my own business and I would never treat a customer in such a way, if I have to deal with Frank again my lawyer will be invovled as well, Frank is unprofessional and screaming, yelling, cursing rude. Go with a different moving company. At this point I have no idea if my stuff is coming and I am losing money everyday I'm not in business. Do not use this company. read more

They suck...I wish I could give negative reviews. They damage your property if they feel like you don't give a good enough tip after they pull that scam about they were busy with another job bull, which is why they are late to yours before you're charged hundreds of dollars over your original fee.. The guy who was putting our furniture back together after we finally arrived to our destination hid one of the wooden boards in our closet because he didn't know/ care where it belonged. They also lost the glass door of our entertainment system and cracked/ made a hole in the ceiling over our basement steps with my elliptical machine. On top of that, some of my dresser drawers aren't closing all the way anymore without me nudging them in. No one ever calls back when this fake business is contacted when there is a problem...I'm contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

I had a very similar experience to the girl that posted in 2010. I too was moving a VERY small amount of stuff (a bed, about 20 boxes, a TV, 2 night stands and an end table) and they quoted me what I thought was a reasonable price. When they packed up my things on the truck, they found that there were 5 more boxes than I had originally thought and they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg more. Then I find out I also have to give a 20% tip. Being that I would tip anyway, I let that slide. Finally my stuff gets to San Diego and the guy tells me that not only do I owe a balance, but if they have to walk more than 75 feet it is another $75 AND if you have an elevator in your apt, it is an extra $120 (last I checked an elevator should make things easier). Needless to say, I didn't know ANYTHING about these additional charges and I'm pissed. I would not recommend this moving company to anyone. Fred was a really nice guy to work with, but these people need to be more transparent about cost. I ended up putting a dispute on my credit card (since the first half of my move was paid for that way - second half has to be all cash) because I think the additional charges are ridiculous. For what I ended up paying, I could have shipped a few more things with a more reputable company. I would not recommend using these guys if you aren't looking to get ripped off. read more

I was very disappointed by Xpress Moving Vanlines. Below are my complaints: Overall dishonesty/lacked full disclosure 1. They told me I was responsible for the toll to get to me in Jersey, which I accepted, but they lied about the cost and told me it was twenty dollars.... it was 34 2. When I booked the movers, they told me if I had bubble wrap available, the movers would wrap the pieces of glass for my coffee table and desk and take them. They refused and insisted I pay $65 for a cardboard box (and a used box at that!) Other movers I used did not pull this nonsense. When I later explained to our contact Jim that it was unethical to charge this for a box, he said that it included the cost of the labor to pack the box. Of course he had nothing to counter with when I explained that was a load of BS since we were already paying an hourly labor rate. 3. I do not recall anyone telling me up front I needed cash. A 5% charge on a credit card? Outrageous 4. They insisted I pay for the time it took to get back to Brooklyn, which was not what the initial agreement said. Overall use of time-In general: I felt they didn't use the time well. They moved much slower than other movers I used in the past and didn't work together as well. 1. They wasted so much time wrapping our sofas in dirty blankets instead if wrapping our glass that would not have broken if they had concentrated on doing their job instead of trying to up sell us on cardboard boxes. 2. Another example of poor time management was that one of the movers started to wrap our $100 IKEA dining table and I said its fine not necessary, instead of just leaving it as it was and putting it on the truck he wasted more time unwrapping the table! Rude remarks I made a comment about there being a lot more stuff than I remembered, and the mover in charge replied "that's what happens when you're rich". He also made a few comments trying to pressure us into leaving high tips. After making such a big deal about wanting to "protect our things" with cardboard boxes, you'd think they at least would have been careful with the things they did agree to take, but nope, not so much. They broke a wall decoration made of thick wood (so not easy to break) and left a HUGE scratch on the wall in our front hallway. Before I hired them, they were extremely nice and cooperating. I read other reviews on this site and I thought I probably won't experience the same frustration with the company as others did. BE CAREFUL before hiring them!!! After they get the contract from you, they will never return your calls. Original estimate was for $3500 to move from East Coast to West Coast, even after i gave them full details of everything. Once the mover got to my house they said it would cost $5500. Outrageous!!!! they almost doubled the price on the day of delivery. Also in their contract, they mentioned you need to pay movies 20 percent in tips. We did give them $150 in tip, and they demanded more and end up leaving with $250 in tips. We asked our stuff to be delivered right away. Movers told us it will be delivered in 10 days. I called 15 days later and they said they have not shipped it yet. Even though the contract said they will delivered within 21 days. It probably won't even get there for a long time. Don't believe anything they say!!!!! I'm considering hiring a lawyer and go after them for their lies. read more

I am very unhappy with my interstate move with Xpress Moving Vanlines. They demonstrated a repeated habit of making verbal assurances that were never followed through on. At times I would email them with several questions regarding my move, and they would selectively respond to only some of the questions/emails. I didn't think too much of it at the time, and simply followed up with phone calls, which were always responded to in a reassuring manner. I realize in hindsight that it appears they systematically chose not to respond to answers in email or otherwise in writing that might jeopardize my wanting to do business with them, but at the same time bind them to do something they had no intention of doing. I would not recommend them to anyone. Anyone who does business with them I would urge not take a thing they say for granted, require everything in writing, and expect them to do the bare minimum in the longest amount of time possible. An example of this- I stated I would be able to receive delivery of my belongings the day after they picked them up, and that I would like them as soon as possible. They reassured me it should be less than a week. After a week I was assured it would be within the next few days. This went on for some time, until ultimately my belongings were delivered 20 days after they were picked up, in spite of frequent phone calls and pleadings on my part, and reassurances on their part. read more

Same experience as Marie. Terrible experience. They would try to give you a quote from the phone and then charge you way more when the items get loaded in the truck. Maybe I have some more items but not to be charged more than $2,500 on top. The customer service is terrible, they even hung up one of the calls (George). DO NOT EVEN think about using the services of this company, you won't be satisfied. They would not be delivering on time at all. Do not use this business. We used them to move. The guys who came to take our stuff were good...in and out in less than an hour. We were told our things would leave New York the next day. We told the next day that the driver decided to take a last minute vacation and didn't know when our belongings would get there. Days went by and no response. When I moved from New York Queens to Cincinnati last July 1, Xpress Moving was excellent. They got my stuff to me in two days, were very professional in loading and unloading, friendly guys from Hungary were the crew. It wasn't cheap and cost more than the phone estimate, because I had more stuff than I thought I did. They packed it to take up as little cubic feet as possible though which did help with the price. I just moved from NY to DFW area. Prior to moving, I had many movers contact me with different quotes. Since I had price-shopped around a bit, I thought it was safe not to go with the lowest price bidder. Instead I went with Xpress which had one of the highest quotes and I was lead to believe that their service was the best. Once I decided with the company, I paid the deposit and agreed on the date of the move. The movers showed up as promised and loaded everything up quickly. I had done the job of packing everything, so all they had to do was load up. At the time of loading, I was told by Mike that my goods would go to their secure warehouse in Brooklyn and leave on the next truck to Texas. I was also given a tentative date but reminded that legally they had 21 days to deliver my stuff. Based on the tentative date, I planned my travel to Texas to receive the shipment. After I reached, I tried to get in touch with them and was told that the goods were on the way and would reach by the tentative date. It didn't. When I called back to find out if there was a problem, I was told that it was still in Brooklyn and being loaded onto a truck and would leave that same night. They informed me that it would reach in 2 days since they had 2 drivers on the truck and would drive nearly 24 hours a day. It still didn't reach. I called back again and was still told that it was being loaded on the truck and would leave within a couple of days. Obviously, after paying one of the higher rates in the market, one would at least expect honesty, if not on-time delivery. I was pretty upset that no one from Xpress could tell me where my stuff was and when they could deliver it. When I asked to put to the salesman whom I made the order with, or the person who loaded my stuff, I was told they were both on leave. The only detail I was told was it was still being loaded. I had to blindly believe the salesman !! A week after my tentative date, I get a called from the driver saying my goods would reach the following day . The stuff reached on a hot Texas summer noon. The 2 people on the truck did a good job of moving everything quickly to my place. Needless to mention, I was happy that I finally got all my stuff in good condition albeit a bit late (at the time of writing this review, I am still unpacking, so I don't know if there is something that could be damaged but I hope not). Overall, I would give a poor rating to Xpress only because they were quick to comment on the poor delivery and customer service of many other companies but in the end, they did a terrible job themselves. They were not honest about the dates and on multiple occasions lied to me that stuff was on the way or just about to leave their warehouse. My advice to those seeking to move would be to NOT fall for the salesmen's bag of tricks. Do your homework well before you can select your company. Put another way, if most companies have similar reviews and you are confused, why not go for the cheaper vendor and atleast save a few green in the process ? read more

Very poor initial communication and likely indicative of their service. This company contacted me based on my request for an online quote. When Josh called he was very aggressive though I explained to him that I was only in the market for a quote and not yet sure of my move date (I was also coming off of an 18hr flight). He constantly tried to get me to sign up for their service during that call, as their rates where 'going to change'. He was such a bully, I am not sure why he would think that such an approach would win him business. I asked him to followup with an email which I had not yet looked at when he decided to call me again to followup. As I started to explain to him that I was planning to complete my international move prior to my secondary move (to get some furniture I had in storage) he took it upon himself to yell at me that I 'MUST HAVE CHOSEN A BROKER...GOOD LUCK WITH THAT' then he proceeded to hang up. I was speechless. Having done a both cross country and international moves, I can safely say this company is the most unprofessional I have ever encountered. When I first came across Xpress, I was very pleased with what I had read, the quotes I recieved, and the timliness of their services. However, my experience with them after that really took a turn for the worst. I had my stuff moved in April 2013 to an out of state location. When the movers arrived, they ended up quoting me DOUBLE the amount from the original quote, giving me some BS excuse as to why it was going to be more expensive. The movers stated that they weren't aware I had any boxes; I know this is false because I had inventoried the boxes....who wouldn't move with boxes anyways?!?! At this point, I was already living in another state, and had no other choice but to move my stuff from storage. As unhappy as I was, I bit the bullet and had them pack up my belongings in the truck. They took about 2 weeks time to move my belongings. When they arrived, the driver was rude, and short with me. When they were taking out my belongings, boxes were crushed and looked like they had been drug behind the truck the entire trip. The biggest thing that got to me, besides charging me double then what I antipated, was that they lost luggage of mine. I have called the company several times A MONTH trying to either 1) find my missing belongings, or 2) process a claim. Everytime I called, I got some BS excuse from someone. I heard it all, to "I'll have the manager call you back," writing down my information, saying that they'll process and call me back soon, etc. It is now AUGUST and I am still fighting with this. I finally got an e-mail address and phone number for the claims department. This has been absolutely ridiculous, I find it 100% unprofessional, and I am completely disastified with how this "company" handles business. I would NOT recommend them to anyone else. read more

I received a call from the number 718-499-1934. I answered the phone with my name and did not hear a response. The call was dropped one second later. I received a call from the same number just a minute later and answered the phone with a simple hello. A man said "This is the moving company. Are you stilling looking for a mover." I kindly replied "No, I am not." He then responded, "That's all you needed to say - no need to hang up, you rude woman!" in an angry voice, then hung up the phone. I googled the number to figure out which moving company had called. There was a chance that I would need to look for a mover again in the future but this company will NOT receive my business. I emailed the address provided on the website to inform them of the unprofessional call I had received and received and received the following response: Hi. In my many years of moving and relocating, I have never encountered such a horrible experience as I have with Xpress Moving. First to begin, we had an agreement for them to show up at my residence at 8am to move my belongings but that never happened. Furthermore, they called me an hour later, 9 am to be exact to inform me that they were running late and that they would be at my residence at 11am but they never even made it then. Avoid Xpress. The telephone salesman was at multiple points either deliberately omitting certain costs, and at one point just plain lied. The loaders were friendly enough, but one of their acts was so unprofessional to be worth mentioning. I will also explain a problem with their general policy. The net result of a combination of deception, misunderstanding, and a terrible policy is that the price they quoted me ($790) on the phone ballooned to $1307 on the actual day of the move. And they didn't even move all the stuff that was promised. Problems with the telephone salesman (Josh): He quoted me a price for my move from Princeton to New Haven, based on a "travelling-time estimate" of 3 hours. An important point he failed to mention is that this "travelling-time estimate" was for a one-way trip, and you had to pay more ($115 per hour) for both legs of the journey. In the end, I was billed for 5.5 hours of travelling. After giving me an initial quote of $690, in his words, "the only other cost that hasn't been included" is the price of road and bridge tolls, which he claimed was "about $100". The actual toll price turned out to be $207. Other costs not mentioned on the phone, but you will have to deal with: 1) They make you sign a document stating that you will pay for any parking tickets they incur. 2) Tip for the movers, generally expected to be 15-20%. There was a misunderstanding where the salesman thought he conveyed that the movers would arrive at 9am, but I thought he meant that they would start driving off their base at 9am , and would arrive at my place at 10am plus. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, this could have been an honest misunderstanding, since I do not recall the exact words that were exchanged. However, the moving company had a zero tolerance for misunderstandings, and were completely unsympathetic. At one point, the salesman was shouting into the phone "are you saying it's my fault?" They offered an ultimatum: either we take your deposit and cancel the move, or we'll charge you $115 per hour till you finish packing. Problem with the loaders: These were friendly loaders (led by foreman Alex), however one of their acts was so unprofessional that it soured my impression of them. They agreed to move two of my lamps, and indeed they carried them into the truck. What they failed to tell me is that they unscrewed three of my lamp bulbs and tossed them into my car, without my permission. I only found out about the bulbs after the move. Problem with general policy: They have a policy to charge $250 if you make an "additional stop". I was particularly incredulous because I had stuff to unload from both home and office, which were separated by 5 minutes of driving. Such details were irrelevant to the moving company, and it was a painful policy to learn on the actual day of the move. read more

These are the worst movers in the market. Any good reviews on this page, I can assure you, they have created to balance out the real ones! My story is too long, and I don't want to take too much of your time. But lets say:they picked up late, making me miss my flight! Delivered weeks late! After saying I would receive my property in the same truck they picked up with -- they changed to a 16wheeler! It obviously wouldn't fit in the apartment building truck entrance. After this -- they wanted to charge me 250 to change trucks, and more than 500 more to get my things to my apartment! READ the small letters!! So many hidden charges after bait you with low estimation. You have to pay their toll for coming to your house, pay extra moving fee for them to climb stairs (my apt is on the second floor), they charge 20% tips up front, and etc. Their rating on yellowpages must be all fake. read more

It look me time to write this review because, I waited a long time to get a response from the manager via email, but never did. So finally, I'm just posting the email here. This is the most insulting and worst moving company ever and they don't seem to care and the mover teased me with crying gestures on the most stressful day about me being upset! Who does that?? They also lost a lot of items. I can't find some stuff. Here's the email ( I deleted a paragraph because it was too long, but this is the just of it): "Hi Frank, ...I wanted to send you this because, although I am content that the moving actually is being done, and the two additional men were very considerate, the main mover was extremely insulting. As you know moving is most stressful to the resident because not only are we losing money we are stressed about ensuring that the move goes properly. For this mover to say to me, "what, you want me to cry? Your not a baby..." And to look at my books and say "are you a writer? I thought writers made money!" Was one of the most insulting things a person could say. My daughter and I told him that was insulting and he then proceeded to say he's not American and didn't think I would translate everything he says. He said he just meant that with me going on about money for this move and I should be able to afford it. It just got more insulting. Negative star review is where I'd go with this. Poor customer service, we were threatened, cursed at, bullied by this company and their associates. We "googled" best movers and it came up with a list of companies, we started to call these companies up. It turns out these companies are just middle men to distribute the moves to third party movers that were had no clue of. We never knew in 2 months where our items were in "storage". They stole for us during our move by drinking items out of cooler. They left trash (empty tape rolls) all over the house. They pack their trucks terribly. We saw someone's motorcycle covered with a tarp and boxes on boxes on top of it from the base of the truck to the truck's top. This was the same for our stuff. They pack it worse than yours kids closet. They managed to dent my boyfriends large tool chest. This tool chest is hard metal, but this shows you the amount of weight the put on the items. The people from the company don't care about you, your stuff, or anything. I can't believe companies like this exist. I can't believe they can sleep at night knowing they do this to innocent people. It's absolutely disgusting. We lost so many items we can't replace from trips abroad and we lost hundreds of dollars of missing items. We can't even go through the inventory because the pink copy is illegible and didn't go through. They call everything a box! Nothing is labeled properly. They quoted us one amount, then kept coming after us for more and more. We were quoted 1084 cu ft, but the truck they came with had under 500 cu ft. . Xpress Moving Vanlines is the worst moving company I have ever encounter. 1. Their quates that they give you when you call is totally different when they arrived to move your stuff. 2. They loose your items and then gives you the run a round about it. 3. Their customer service skills sucks, they don't know how to talk to people politely. I moved to Florida and use their service and I would never recommend them to anyone, they distroy my items, and loose stuff and when asked them about it they give all sort of stories and tell lies that they ship it to you when they know they didn't. CAUTION!!! DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY!!! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! UNPROFESSIONAL!!! LATE!!! UNRELIABLE!!! POSSIBLY CRIMINAL!!!!! I don't usually write reviews, but I feel I should share my experience so you don't make the same mistake. So it's been 16 days since they picked up my belongings (18 hour drive move). So far I have no idea where my stuff is or when they are going to deliver. I'm sleeping on an air mattress, and my home is completely empty other than what I brought in a suitcase, and the things I've had to purchase to replace what may or may not be on the way. The communication has been terrible. It's completely unprofessional on every level. When I call, I get the run around. When I call the main office, first I get "you have to speak with the dispatcher, and he stepped out of the office, call back later." I waited all day to speak with him, he then said "you have to call the driver". When I call the driver, no one answers, the voicemail greeting just says a name in a heavy accent then cuts to the beep. I've left 6 messages over 2 days without a return call. As far as the estimate, I told Fred exactly what I had, down to the small chair and the exact number of boxes. After pickup and loading, his estimate was off by about 40%. When they got there, I got a kind suggestion to tip at least 15%. which puts the actual amount about 60% more than the detailed estimate. I don't know how this company has any positive reviews and I'm questioning whether any of these are real, and if this company is even legitimate. At this point, I have no indication that my things have not been stolen and sold to pawn shops. I'm completely dissatisfied with this move and this company. It's turned out to be disaster, I can't get on with moving in, unpacking, or even sitting down at my own home. They offer no apology, no sympathy, no recourse, just "call back later", or "call this other person". They've taken so long, that I don't have days off anymore to unpack and I'll have to do it before or/after work. I've had visitors, and in my home I don't even have a couch/chair/television/bed/sheets/extra bath towel. It's embarrassing. In summary, I've paid a huge amount of money, I don't know where my stuff is or when it's coming, and I get the run around when I call. I have no leverage or negotiating power at this point. I didn't not have a problem with Express on my move from Hudson County, New Jersey to Volusia County, Florida. Things didn't work out for me and I had to come back to New Jersey. The guy that Express recommended to me, some guy NORM from Florida, turned out to be awful. He lost a box of mine and doesn't even have the decency to get back to me when I have texted and left messages for him. Don't use him. Norm is so unprofessional. This is a person who just cares about the money and doesn't give a ______ about customer service. I just needed him to get back to me and let me know that my box was gone. He did answer my first call and said he would check all the trips he made along the way on his way back to New Jersey. I can't wrap my mind around that this would be a difficult thing to do. He just doesn't care; got his money and that's all he cares about. read more

I would give this company NEGATIVE five star rating if I could. Absolutely irresponsible and arrogant. Booked a move out with them with clear and plain explanation that I live in a building with very strict restrictions, one of which was one can use the elevator for 2 hours only and another- no moving allowed after 5pm. If that happened I was going to incur the full rent for the next month (March). The move was schedule to take place between 2-4pm on Feb 27/2015. After numerous calls to the company's dispatchers who were not only arrogant but also openly rude, showing that they really do not care.The movers arrived at 5:30 pm. The building management did not allow the move to start and I lost $3200 thanks to them. As someone mentioned-RUN away from them. Unreliable, undependable,careless and untrustworthy bad enough dishes were broken and they did not deliver furniture and kitchen articles that I saw were loaded on the truck but I was told I had to count every box as it came off the truck. I wouldn't use them or recommend them to my enemy never mind a friend. I did contact the BBB in N.Y.C. but Fred's express did not respond to them. Tells you what kind of a company they are. What a disgusting company. You can tell by how they blame the customer for the bad move. Go ahead and blame me, Xpress. They were so nice on the phone originally and then the guy I spoke with had to go overseas to tend to family business. Then it was just a series of bad incidents one after the other. They asked for 15-20% of the total as tip and that was only for the movers in Jersey. After 10 days, even though I was originally told that the truck was going down the day after my belongings were going to be picked up, they arrived and extorted $75 from me because my apartment was 50ft over their limit. I'm sorry, but I didn't build the apartment. I didn't measure the distance from the parking lot to my door when I rented the place. It was a dirty move and completely unnecessary. They wouldn't accept credit on the second half of the payment so I had to get a money order. They wouldn't accept a check or credit for the $75 they extorted from me...only cash. The foreman told me he was going to leave all of my belongings on the ground level if I didn't pay him in cash. This company should be ashamed of the way they treat their customers and their customers' belongings--most of my stuff is damaged. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY TO MOVE ANYWHERE. Winston was a really good guy. He bid on my move... ny to Colorado a one bedroom apt, with no appliances. All my stuff is at a storage facility. There quote was the lowest because he said his truck would be in Colorado after thanksgiving. I said I didn't mind waiting that long to get it(2weeks). The truck came today but not after Winston called 3x that the truck was late. First they had trouble getting the truck out, then there was traffic, then then they just didn't show up. At 11:30 they did show up.... when they were supposed to be there at 9am. Winston called me to say they arrived. That's when he doubled his quote since he said I had over 600 cu ft of goods. However I moved from a 600sq ft place so that's impossible. Anyway, he's a nice guy but not trustworthy which stinks. read more

If there was a way to give them below zero stars I would. I don't know about local moves, but DO NOT EVER USE EXPRESS MOVING VANLINES IF YOU VALUE YOUR POSSESSIONS. First of all, when you start dealing with them over the phone, they sound pleasant. We dealt with Rony. However, when it came for the time for the men to pick up the items, they were aggressive and rude. Please please please NEVER LET THEM PACK YOUR BELONGINGS; always do it yourself. My aunt and I are almost positive that they marked which boxes they liked/wanted and STOLE THEM. I repeat STOLE THEM! Also, they tore up my aunt's wall moving the couch and refused to take responsibility. In addition, they said the items were overweight and charged us another $1,000 and refused to let go of the items. My aunt was flustered and agreed to pay the amount because they took our items hostage. They were super quick in delivering the items, but again that was another pressured situation. They only gave me barely a day's notice before dropping off the items. They were rude and rush through the unloading process. The inventory list they gave me was a joke, but since I was under so much pressure I really had no way of verifying what was or wasn't there. Eventually, after talking to my aunt and after her visiting, I realized that over 5 boxes of fairly expensive household items are missing and have been stolen. The company did not want to take proper responsibility and made the process of being refunded impossible. I recognize that items are just items, but it is sad that they felt the need to overcharge us and then also steal at the same time. Be careful when these people give you a quote!! First of all, I gave Fred the exact amount of boxes Medium and small and exact amount of furniture that it needed to be moved. He sent me a quote and I even went over with him many times of the items. He promised me that the quote should be more or less accurate and that if anything, it will be some extra for packing perhaps $200 addlt). When Mike arrived, he increased the quote by $1000 additional because they do not go by the exact boxes and items that you have, nor the weight of the items, as many other companies, they go by the space. It would have been nice if they will explain this to you instead of just getting your deposit (probably because they are aware that their quotes or estimates are far from correct) and then give you the big surprise. When Fred told me the quote, he never said this was by space, but asked me the qty of boxes and items. I lost my dp because I cx right there when they arrived, but I will not pay them more than $1000 addtl from the original quote. who knows what other surprises this company would have brought me. read more

I have moved at least 20 times in my life due to my work. Without a doubt, this is the worst, most unethical company I've ever dealt with. Fred, the sales guy, lied about so many things and had no problem putting his lies in email. I wanted a moving company that would actually do my move and not farm it out to another company. In fact, I insisted that Fred put an addendum in my contract stating this. Fred also sent me an email assuring me that Xpress would be the only company handling my move. He blatantly lied to me - another company moved my belongings. When the movers came to pack me, they demanded a 20% tip. That amounted to over $700! When I refused, they stopped working! When I asked for a copy of the paperwork stating this, I was denied. I called Fred and told him there was no way I was tipping these guys 20% and he made the guys continue loading my stuff. There is so much more to this company that is unbelievable, unprofessional, and unethical. I just filed a complaint with the BBB because they damaged some of my stuff and they've owed me less than $100 for almost six months now and they still have not provided me with paperwork from my move. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY BLATANTLY LIE AND TRY TO EXTORT MONEY FROM CLIENTS AT A TIME WHEN CLIENTS ARE VERY VULNERABLE. Update: Not only is Xpress Moving refusing to pay the claim for damaged goods (like $90 is going to affect my life), but they are also ignoring the BBB. Here is the BBB's effort, which you can read about on their website. "Your BBB has tried to present your complaint to X-Press Moving Van Lines in an attempt to resolve this matter to your mutual satisfaction. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we have received no response to your complaint. We attempted to contact X-Press Moving Van Lines through written correspondence twice on your behalf, but we must now close this matter in our files." And, "The firm's failure to respond to your complaint will be reflected in its BBB record. " I also filed a complaint with the US Dept of Transportation. After reading all of these reviews, I've realized that it appears to be hit or miss with this company as well as MOST moving companies. Let me tell you about MY experience...... Three days before my move, I had to "fire" the original company I had booked (A One Van Lines). Fred from Xpress called me back after I had put in a new request with movers.com. When I called him back, he was not in that day, so I had the pleasure of dealing with Winston. Winston was a complete gentleman and understood my moving needs. He actually made me feel at ease with all the stress that had incurred with the prior moving company I was dealing with. I was able to be booked on the day that I needed to be, which from what I understand, is difficult with such short notice in the summer. He gave me a quote (a high estimate-just in case), Which I appreciated because I'd rather pay less than have hidden charges. The prices were competitive with other companies that I was shopping around with. There was a discrepancy with a fuel surcharge on the written estimate that wasn't mentioned with my verbal estimate from Winston, however, when I questioned it he waived the fee (which was reassuring). When it came time for moving day, the movers arrived an hour and a half late but they DID call me ahead of time to let me know that they were stuck in traffic. When they arrived, there was apparent confusion of where they were supposed to go (I had two stops booked). I called the office and they remedied that issue right away. The movers were extremely courteous and accommodating. It turns out, we had a lot more stuff than I told Winston over the phone. The guys made it happen though without any argument. The move to the new location was 100 miles away and the time the truck was loaded to the time they arrived at the new home was very efficient. Once the guys arrived, they unloaded the truck very carefully and even separated the things by rooms that we wanted them in. They worked hard and efficiently and we appreciated them! There were three movers.....Andrew, Corey and.....I can't remember the name of the third one. I can't speak for a long distance move.....but for my local move, I was very satisfied with Xpress from beginning to end!
