Wanted to go for the Dan Dan noodles which I kind of expected to have a bit more peanut flavour (easily fixed by adding a heaping tablespoon of peanut butter to leftovers), but overall, service was fantastic, food was lovely, and the bathroom was clean! Got there around 5:30 on a Monday night and they were already doing swift food delivery service because bikers were riding off with big packages. Restaurant was empty so I chose for my friend and I to sit by the big front window. Our server was so friendly and welcoming, and warned us that the portions were big. We'll get sweet and sour pork next time. Ordered Dan Dan noodles, sautéed lamb with scallions, large steamed rice, XLB (8), and for posting a picture on Instagram with a hashtag, we got a free small portion of crispy salted chicken which was tender and not too salty which I was a little afraid of. Loved that we each got a stein of hot tea and our lovely server came around often to refill it. My friend and I were there for 3.5 hours and it was a great place to hang out and chat without feeling the slightest bit rushed. I asked to split the bill and we each simultaneously got our own credit card machine to tap so efficiently. Out of all the dishes, the lamb was my favourite. When asking for dishes to go, the staff actually packed it up for us and gave us each enviro bags which I really appreciated. Truly impressed with my spontaneous takeout order from Grand Chinese (Yaletown location)! Strong cravings for dumplings & Chinese buns brought me here, and I'm glad it did. I ordered the classic Pan Fried Pork Buns and another Spicy Tangy Pork Dumplings (in soup) for a quick lunch. The pan fried buns were surprisingly generous portion wise, I appreciated the fact that the bottom was still crispy 15mins from pickup. The exterior of the bun was so soft, it had a great bouncy chew to it, and protected the juiciness of the port filling very well. This is an item I'd reorder any day (everyday, if I lived any closer!) The Spicy Tangy Pork Dumplings filled my car with the drool worthy vinegary aromatics of the soup base during my whole drive home - and I drove fast thinking my dumplings in the soup was going to be overly soggy poaching in the soup. To my surprise the dumpling order and the soup order was separately packed! I thought that was a very thoughtful move by the chef to retain overall freshness of the dish !! Note: the soup base is not the typical hot and sour soup served at most Chinese restaurant (I.e. the ones packed with tofu, veggies and wood ear) this one is a much clearer vinegar based broth, mixed in with toasted sesame, peppercorn, and topped with a solid layer of hot oil engulfing the green onion garnish. A friend saw their happy hour ad outside their restaurant one day and it's a pretty sweet deal, so he asked me if I wanted to check it out. They have various Chinese dishes for only $5.99 each from 4pm to 6pm, sit down service only. Things like sweet and sour pork, sweet and sour chicken, honey garlic spareribs, deep fried squid, deep fried fish and red chilli chicken wings. We decided to order all six dishes since it was so inexpensive and we were really hungry. The deep fried dishes were a bit on the salty side but still really good! Both the sweet and sour dishes were awesome and I loved the Chicken wings. This was a ton of food for only around $20 per person. It was such a great deal, I'm already talking to my partner about going back and even taking his family there. The service at this restaurant was great and very attentive. The restaurant decor isn't bad, but I think they've pivoted more to take out since the pandemic occurred so they have more stations for food pick up and their sit down service area is smaller. They have pretty much an identical menu to the Peaceful restaurants, so if you're familiar with Peaceful, you know what you're getting here -- except that the prices are a solid 20-30% higher here. We ordered a couple of lunch specials ($12.95 plus tax; Peaceful's are currently $9.95 plus tax) to go one day during the week, for which they give you a 10% discount. They have some vegetarian (indeed, vegan) options, and this is what prompted us to try the place. We got the Szechuan Ma-Po Tofu and the Vegetable & Tofu Chow Mein (with housemade blade-sheered noodles instead). Both were tasty. The ma-po tofu was barely spicy despite me requesting it "extra spicy"; they need to dial up the szechuan peppercorns and chili here -- still, very tasty. The container it came in, however, was half rice and half tofu -- I guess they pad out these lunch specials with lots of rice to keep the cost/price down? The noodle dish was decent, with an adequate portion of veggies (2 pieces of broccoli, some bok choy, a bit of carrot), with a mild brown sauce. The noodles were a great texture. Given that the menu and food execution is basically identical to Peaceful, I'm not sure why you'd come here given that it's 20+% more expensive here. I guess if you're in the area, it's a solid spot, and the lunch specials are a reasonable value. All in all, good food, less good value. read more

We got 3 things for takeout. The Szechuan style peppery chicken was so salty to the point that neither of us could eat it. The beef with broccoli tasted a bit bland. The griddle cooked mixed mushrooms was again too salty. It has a lot of those little peppers that numb your tongue when you bite into it. I personally don't like the flavour. Overall, the food here is way too salty and oily for me so if I order again, I'd probably give the dim sum items a try. read more

I've ordered from here a few times because they've had some good coupons on one of the delivery apps. I would not order/eat here at full price because the food just isn't that great. Their hand pulled noodles and knife cut noodles are all just too thick and doughy. They stick together in a weird way. I've tried both the dan dan and chili oil noodles a few times, and that's how it was every time. I would say the only reason someone should come here is if you're on a budget and want a decent amount of food for cheap. Probably a good option for UBC/SFU students. read more

We came here for early dinner/happy hour. We ordered the schezuan style chicken wings off the happy hour menu and they were spicy and good! The chili prawns were crispy and delicious. The chow mien was just okay. There were only a few pieces of chicken and I didn't love the taste of the chicken either. For this being our main dish of the evening, I was a bit disappointed. Portion sizes were big enough to share! The patio area of the restaurant is a great spot for people watching but the service was a little less attentive being out of their line of sight. Grand Chinese Yaletown Restaurant is a Hong Kong style cafe. It just open recently and my friend and I met there for lunch one rainy Friday afternoon. We went family style... He ordered a dish I ordered a dish we put it all in the middle and shared. I ended up ordering the spicy tofu and he ordered the spicy beef. We ordered from their lunch special menu... Tea, soup, and your dish with rice or noodles for under $10! It's a pretty good deal! Where can you get a sit down lunch for under $10 these days? The soup was an egg drop soup... It was a cold day so it was nice to have some hot soup. But I have to say this soup was lacking in flavour. I would say the soup was a little better than drinking hot water.. but not much better! The tofu and the beef were pretty good. But the rice they served was super hard! I don't think they used enough water. Come on guys! You're running a chinese restaurant how could you not know how to cook rice? It's like meeting a Eskimo who doesn't know how to make ice! Unheard of!!! We got to the restaurant around 1145 by 12 the place was pretty stacked with ppl. This goes to show that this area is in sore need of a decent Chinese Restaurant... So I used to come here when it was a Japanese restaurant but well we all know where that went. I decided to order the lunch special. The flavors for the beef and broccoli were fantastic but... the hand pulled noodles was a disappointment. The noodles came cold and some stuck together. Some pieces were just too thick that made it doughy. It would have better stars if they improve the noodles. I even asked my partner to try and she was even omg it's so doughy! Grand has taken top pick for my go to Chinese food! I've ordered from here quite a few times now (only delivery due to covid) and have not been disappointed. Portions are quite large, reasonably priced, and the veggies are always very fresh. I wouldn't say I was completely blown away, but it's really tasty for what it is! As a visiting tourist, we found this place via a Google search and decided to check it out on a Friday night. Yaletown was not far from our hotel near the Pride District so it was only a few minutes drive. Parking is challenging near the restaurant, though, because Yaletown is a hot spot for night life and very busy. There was no waiting in the restaurant and we were seated right away. Even though we didn't order any, dim sum is offered here. My husband ordered a beef/steak dish that sounded a bit like Mongolian beef , pork potstickers and white rice. I ordered lemon chicken, white rice and hot tea. The drinks come out in cute metal mugs (unexpected for a Chinese restaurant!), and we didn't have to wait very long for our order even though the kitchen was busting out loads of pick up orders (very busy in that respect). I truly enjoyed my lemon chicken and rice. The breading was a little thick, and the chicken was pounded super thin, but it had a good overall flavor. The coating was super crispy and not oily or greasy at all. The lemon sauce was served on the side, which was really nice. My husband said the flavor of his beef dish was quite good, but the texture of the steak was terrible. It was grisly and tough with too much fat, plus the dish was served with tofu strips and a different mix of vegetables than what was indicated on the menu. The potstickers were great, and he really enjoyed them. The waiter, after checking on us and seeing that my husband had tried to eat the beef but wasn't able to even chew it, offered to replace the dish but we were already full from the rest of the meal. The waiter brought us our bill and he had removed the dish and talked to us about how their meat supplier had changed and that this was not an isolated incident. They had inconsistency and poor quality with their beef now and many customers had the same issue. He apologized and, honestly, he was very kind and embarrassed about it. We ordered take-out. They had pictures and food description on the take-out menu but not on the online menu. They had shredded carrots for the Singapore Style Fried Vermicelli in the picture but the carrots were missing from the actual dish. They had shredded lettuce on the Spicy Salted Tofu in the picture but they used a lot of diced garlic instead in reality. They had the Northern Curry Beef on the online menu but not on the take-out menu. They used a few chunks of potatoes for the curry beef instead of using sweet bell peppers in which the peppers were with the Northern Curry Chicken. Also, they did not ask us if we wanted the white and green onions on the tofu and the spareribs after we told them that we did not want both types of onions on the vermicelli. The server should let the customers know that there were onions on other dishes if the customers told the server that they did not want onions on one of the dishes. read more

I found a great Chinese restaurant. I think it's the best Chinese restaurant in downtown. Food tasted really good. I used to drive all the way to Richmond for spicy ginger beef. My previous dining experience was at their other location near Brentwood Town Center. We would dine at that location almost once per week, feasting on their lunch specials. Now that they have opened the Yaletown location, it has also become a regular spot for me. I have tried every lunch special and the majority of them are satisfying and the portions are generous. My favourites include the Shanghai Style Noodles and the Laksa Seafood Noodles (regular menu, not lunch special). The pan fried pork buns are also an affordable but tasty option. I don't understand why people are giving 1-star reviews... I guess those folks just don't like Chinese food. Everything is subjective, this place isn't like a 5-star joint at the Peninsula in Hong Kong. But for my dining dollar and experience, it really hits the spot. read more

We wanted to try a different place for Chinese food last week, so decided to order from DoorDash and give Grand Chinese Yaletown Restaurant a try. Here's what we found: 1. Vegetable Buns: these were rather bland, but in light of remainder of the dishes we ordered, this was the best item we tried. 2. Sweet and Sour Chicken: this dish consisted of deep fried pieces of chicken that were so dry and overcooked, they were not edible. 3. Beef Chow Mein: I've had chow mein many times, and this was not chow mein. The noodles looked like chow fun noodles, i.e., thick and wide, and they were stuck together and seemed to be overcooked, almost to the point of being burned. The few pieces of beef were chewy and also inedible. 4. Steamed 5 grain rice: I don't know where the 5 grains come in. This was a very small order of plain white rice. It's good to try different restaurants, but this one is a big 'never again' for us. read more

The absolute worst Chinese food I've had in Vancouver. Pork tasted like they cooked it a week ago and reheated it in a microwave. The staff were decent but seemed like they didn't really care about the food. If you're looking to stuff yourself with something that barely has any flavour, and was made with zero care - this is the place to go. I got the 3 meal combo for take out and I was disappointed cause they got the order wrong. Although nicely packed and normally i check packing before leaving, I didn't want to ruin their nice packing job and I just had a lot of trust with me. When I got home it was pork, not beef. I eat both, however, been staying off the pork as much as I can during the pandemic and wanted to have a beef day. The dish itself still tasted good, but they got the order wrong. I was only one waiting so I didn't take someone's order...or at least I hope not. The prices were very reasonable and at par with everyone else. Dropped by for dinner recently as there are basically zero Chinese restaurants in Yaletown. Very new place with a pretty good menu for many choices of different Chinese styles. The portion sizes were very generous and our food orders came quickly. Service was friendly and personable. We needed to take a lot of each dish with us as there was so much food. We ordered delivery tonight and the food was incredibly fast, fresh and delicious. I loved the noodle options with the chow mein and the seafood and meat was actually good quality. The lemon chicken was juicy and filling and the pork buns were really big and great value. Portions are great but you can tell the food is made with care. They'll be our new go-to spot! read more
