The water tasted strongly of a dirty chemical. The only bright spot was the miso soup was good. Absolutely terrible. We walked in and sat for 20 minutes before being able to place our drink order and get menus. And that was it. We didn't see a waitress again for another 40 minutes. Meanwhile people that came in after us were already eating their food, and we had yet to be able to even order. I got a "filet mignon" dinner box, which is just chunks of seasoned beef over a pile of fried rice and veggies (again, very similar to a Panda Express). Another member of our party ordered a "steak" bento; the beef was indistinguishable from my "filet mignon". I didnt get sushi but those who did report that it isn't great. The miso is average. The staff didn't bother to label anything in our 5-person takeout order, so we had about 15 mystery Styrofoam containers and it was a headache to figure out which items belonged to which person. read more

Walked in at 7:53. No greeting. Walked up to the counter. Three people standing behind the counter not one of them acknowledged my existence. I spoke and asked where should I sit. I am a huge fan of Japanese food and have had it many amazing places. I was eager to try Yamato. Corydon really does need more places like this. As stated on another yelp review, there is a torn piece of paper taped to the door that says, "Please come in and wait to be seated." It looks cheap. They should buy a professional restaurant sign that says that if they are trying to make a good impression. Once entering the restaurant the first thing I noticed was trash scattered on the floor. The blinds on the front windows were down all the way but, about a foot leaving the sun to shine in and light up every thing on the floor. For the most part the atmosphere is dark and cozy. The music should be Japanese though and be loud enough to hear. We sat down being the only other table in the place, besides the booth behind us with a screaming child that was never dealt with. Our servicer was friendly but, seemed distracted and inattentive to our needs. To start of with we ordered Lobster Rangoon which was filled with mostly cream cheese and was very sweet. The bowl of dipping sauce should definitely have more sauce in it. Overall, I would not order this appetizer again. Next we got the teriyaki shrimp bento box. It came with a choice of soup. We had onion and it was good. The salad is tiny and very plain however, the dressings are wonderful especially the ginger. The box was beautifully presented but, overall fairly small and came with no ginger or wasabi which I found odd. We finished up with a Spicy Salmon Roll. There were 6 pieces and again they were smaller than your typical sizes. This plate did come with ginger and sushi however :) We ordered Hot Saki only to be asked, what that was??? Needless to say, they do not have Saki. I would visit this place again because it is the only place in Corydon to get this type of food. At first I was hesitant to come after reading some of the Yelp reviews. I'm glad I decided to explore this restaurant anyways because it was delicious. The atmosphere is nice, very small but cozy. The decor is Japanese themed but not tacky. I ordered the Sushi Bento box and it had 11 pieces of sushi, a spring roll, salad, and soup. The sushi was fresh and tasted just as good as other sushi restaurant is been too. The onion soup was hot and tasty and paired well with the dish I ordered. This place is a nice little find in Corydon and the staff is very friendly. Keep in mind if your coming around dinner time it does I'll up quickly since it is a small place. read more

I've been here multiple times with my other half. We both enjoy it when the sushi craving creeps up. That's not to say it's the best sushi we've ever had, but it's good enough for Corydon. The prices are fairly reasonable and most of the dishes we've tried have been above edible. The lobster rangoon is no longer overly sweet and instead has a more cream cheese taste to it. I do wish that they wouldn't put french fried onions in their onion soup. They get soggy and accomplish little. Minor complaint on my part because I still order it anyway. OK, it really is sad that I have to update this review with yet another bad review, but I'm only doing so in hopes that the owners read this and try to improve things. This Yamato was the best in the chain. WAS. It's now slid down to the worst for me. The waitress tried her best, but she seemed clueless about what they sell. She did a good job but needs to learn the menu and needs to figure out priorities like cleaning off a table when people are done. Sashimi is no longer sold and they don't have a sushi menu now. What rolls are on the menu are what they sell. That's it. The miso soup was bland, had zero tofu in it and almost zero else other than broth. Not good. The bento box we got had almost all meat and zero vegetables in the main course. The seemed to be skimping on everything (the fish amount in our rolls was pathetic) and that is noticeable when you've been a regular customer. Shame on you Yamato for making me not trust your service or food any longer. I guess we'll go back to Paoli Yamato from now on, it's about the same distance. read more

We chose this restaurant because it's one of the few interesting places in Corydon. By 1:30, most tables were full. Server was attentive and nice. The 'A' on the front door was encouraging -especially for a sushi place. very nicely decorated with soft lighting. Except for the mounted TV in the corner, it would have been perfect. We chose the Spicy Girl roll for starters. While nicely presented, it was an odd combo of temperatures- rice room temp, filling cold, too much sauce on top, the seaweed wrap seemed particularly chewy. I chose the teriyaki chicken bento. A hearty portion for lunch w soup, salad, spring roll, rice, and chicken w the main entrée served in a bento box. Very nice touch! Miso soup was well prepared w large leaves of seaweed - though the tofu pieces were possibly the dehydrated version. The dressings for the iceberg salad were fine. Maybe homemade? The spring roll was crunchy but rather tasteless. The chicken had a good flavor and appearance but its texture was very dry. The mushrooms and onions w the chicken were quite mushy. The rice was good. No one at my table ordered more sushi so I can't comment on it. My three stars were generous but I feel like this place would have great potential with a bit more attention to detail in the kitchen. Corydon desperately needs variety from all the chain stores, so I hope Yamato makes some food preparation changes and starts earning 5 stars. read more

I have been to Yamato's 5 times now. The service there is awful. They are very slow and you have to get up and get your own "to go" plate and you have to track down your waitress to get a refill on your drink if you want one. The food on the other hand is amazing and I love it. From now on if I want Yamato's I will be calling in my order and getting it to go. read more

For sure, I have had better in the big cities like Chicago and Vegas, but for tiny Corydon this could be a gem. We have eaten here several times; it's one of our favorites. We love the hibachi dinners.They also serve sushi, but neither of us care for that, so I can't speak to that product. Hibachi food, however, we are experts in! Hubby's favorite meal is the Imperial, which is their steak, chicken, & shrimp dinner. I love the scallops & steaks. We also love the spring rolls, absolutely delicious! I have ordered a side of vegetables, but still never get enough. While the service is great, the food good, & the atmosphere is family friendly, it's not always the most comfortable. It's a rather small area & the servers stay too busy to always clean as well as preferred, but they do try. Since I am diabetic, I would love options that don't require rice (I.e., more vegetables!), but I can slide it over to the side of my plate! I had the pleasure of eating there about 2 months ago. I ordered the shrimp bento and it was the best meal I have had in a long time. The place was packed full. Our server was informative and friendly. My $7.95 meal came with a choice of 2 soups, I had the onion which was great. I also had a salad that came with my meal, I can't remember the name of the dressing but it was great (yellow bottle on the table).
