    Sushi for 2
    Khaum L.

My husband and I wanted to try something out of our normal weekly dinner dine-ins and after searching for a restaurant, we came across Yamato Sushi House on Bluemound. It is tucked away in the back corner of a small plaza. The layout was quite nice and very roomy. We were the only customers in the restaurant and later came another individual towards the end of our meal, so it was extremely quiet. There wasn't any music or anything so that made it even more quiet. When we entered, we weren't greeted. The male who (I assume) worked the front desk came and just stared at us. I asked for a table for two. We were seated at the very first booth - he handed us the menu and didn't go over anything with us at all. (It was our first time there so we weren't sure if there were any specials, etc.) Along with the menu, there were sheets of paper and after taking a look at the paper, it appears they offer "All You Can Eat Sushi". After a good five minutes the gentleman came back and mumbled some words - which I assumed he had asked what we wanted to drink. With a blank look on our faces, we just asked for water. After receiving our waters, we asked if we could order. Without any words, he brought out his notepad and took our order (Sushi for two and a Volcano Roll). The food didn't take long to get to us since we were the only customers there. However, while eating; we heard a tiny clipping noise and noticed that the gentleman was sitting behind the front desk/bar clipping his nails. It was quite unpleasant, unsanitary and unprofessional. Our food was GREAT! The sushi rice was cooked perfectly - we've been to places that had either too hard or old rice and it just ruins the whole point of sushi. So good job on the food! The only thing that really confused us was that our sushi for two entree did not come with soup and salad like most restaurants. The gentleman never came back to ask how we were doing so we couldn't ask him if we were missing those. Unfortunately, we have decided it is not worth our return since the service was very unwelcoming and mind you, the NAIL CLIPPING was the biggest issue of our first-time dining there. The place seemed to be semi-maintained. There were stains on the wall and tables were a bit sticky - and don't forget the little fruit flies that kept bothering us as well. We quickly ate, paid and left. If the staff/s had better manners and professionalism, I think this place would go far. It all makes sense as to why we were the only customers during the normal dinner rush.  One star for good food.

We have dined here several times. The sushi here is amazing. You really cannot go wrong with what to order. Appetizers and desserts are also delicious. Good portion sizes even though it is all you can eat. They definitely do not skimp on the quality. The Milwaukee roll is amazing. That was our favorite. Dynamite roll was also one we would order again. Gyoza was very good. Service was great. Overall a little pricey, but worth it! Our rating is a 8.4/10 5/5 yelp stars. Would we return? Yes! We have several times.

Fresh sushi with a lot of rice. Convenient location in a strip of businesses. Fried rice uses fried red onion that I prefer.

Look at the sashimi! So fresh!

TLDR: Hands down the best AYCE sushi I have been to (and I have been to a lot of them and spent way too much money on). I'm asian and I love sushi, so trust me when I say their sushi is good. Just go there already. I came here on a weeknight at around 430pm for dinner, so the place was quiet and the service was adequate. Our water was always full. We ordered way too many rolls and I honestly don't remember which one is which. My go-to is always some sort of mango roll, so you will almost definitely see them in my pictures. Everything we got was delicious, fresh, and giant (side note, their fillings/ stuffing to rice ratio was decent, they don't try to fill you up by overdoing the rice and giving you little fillings). The sashimi was fresh and we just kept ordering more. Would I come back again? My cousin lives in Milwaukee, and I would make any excuse to drive 6 hours to go to Milwaukee, so I can go to Yamato again. Yamato, keep it up please!

Yamato is the favorite spot within our friend group for celebratory meals or special events. It's got the pretty typical all you can eat set up; Mark all the maki, nagiri or sashimi you want on a sheet (along with other hot entrees and appetizers you'd like), hand the sheet to your server, and get ready to eat as much as you can. What stands out here, though, is the surprising quality of all the sushi. I'm not naive when it comes to sushi places. You usually get what you pay for. Here, though, I was pleasantly surprised by how well made the rolls we ordered were. The sashimi, especially, was a nice step up from other all you can eat joints (be sure to try the fresh scallop). It's always tasted great and we have yet to be disappointed. Good rice, decent sesfood, fair price. Reference the full menu when filling out your sheet if it's your first time, so that you can get a better idea of what's actually in the rolls. Some of our favorites: Include the Shogun, Amazing, and Phoenix rolls. Don't skip the appetizers either. The gyoza and edamame are always a part of our first order here. Dessert is alright, but we focus on the fish, typically. It's a fair compromise of quantity and quality, and you can do a lot worse for a lot more money. I've never seen it overly busy, either, so that's always a positive, I guess - ample parking in the main lot. Looking for an excuse to celebrate and wind up out here again.

SUSHI BOAT!!! Back home for the holidays and took two of my best friends out for lunch. Decided on Yamato because it was close to the gym after a good workout and offered all you can eat from the lunch menu. I was really surprised and pleased to see a variety of specialty rolls as well as entrées and appetizers you could order with no additional cost and included with all you can eat. The service was great. Although they spoke broken English everything came out perfect and I had no problems with speed or refills so that was refreshing. The seafood was great for Midwest. I'm originally from Arizona where the seafood is a little fresher and can taste the difference slightly. The all you can eat is the Way to go, we demolishEd about 20 different rolls all for $60

Still really love this place for all you can eat lunch. Service is pretty quick and the food is fresh and delicious. Try it if you haven't!

This restaurant is absolutely amazing! I've been here quite a few times and absolutely love the food plus $17 for all you can eat isn't too bad. I've always been seated right away and the waiter/waitress has always been rather quick at coming over. Maybe a time or two they took a little longer but nothing that was a big deal. I think other people have mentioned with the all you can eat that they don't always give you what you ordered and that it very true. As an example, one of my favorites, the bluemound roll, is supposed to be 8 pieces but I usually only get 6. I've never said anything because it's all you can eat, I could order another roll if I wanted to or there's plenty of other things to try. The miso soup is great, along with the green salad and gyoza. I highly recommend trying all 3 if you haven't, you won't be disappointed. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves sushi and enjoys trying different things.

For an AYCE sushi place, this is amazing value for your money. Lunch is ~$17, and you get all kinds of specialty rolls, apps, and a couple dessert options. Try all the specialty rolls! The app portions are tiny, so if you want normal portions order a few. Obviously the fish isn't great quality (what do you expect) but honestly the variety is great and for $17, it doesn't get much better.

My server: To drink? Me: A Manhattan, please. Him: Hot Sake? Me: No, Manhattan. Him: Oh, okay. So, hot sake? Me: No, no. Man-HAT-tan. (I was sounding out the world as I pointed to a picture on the drink menu.) Him: Oh! Oh, okay. A few minutes later my drink arrived. It was hot sake. Being a non-confrontational sort of person, I decided to at least try the drink, to see if perhaps I would like it. I did not. It tasted the way old, sweaty socks smell. My friends laughed at my misfortune. They also flagged down the server to have my drink corrected. Confused, the server tried to suss-out what was wrong. Five minutes in we gave up trying and I drank water the rest of the night. Fast forward several months, to earlier this week, when I decided to try again (the restaurant, not the saki). Not wanting a repeat fiasco, I skipped the drink altogether this time. Instead, I ordered shumai and two sushi rolls. All were delicious. Still feeling a bit peckish, I ordered a dessert of tempura fried banana. It arrived quickly and I gobbled down a slice with lots of chocolate sauce dribbled on top. But something was odd about that bite. Not enough sugar? No, not that, but there was an odd funk about it. Not sure what to think, I opened up one of the three remaining slices of "banana" and immediately I saw the problem: It was fish. Tempura fried fish topped with a lovely chocolate sauce. I felt as though I would vomit, but instead forced my stomach back down into my abdomen where it belongs. I opened the other slices and found that indeed all were fish. Having already paid my bill (it is one price for AYCE, after all), I quickly left. I won't be back again.

While I do not give out too many 5 stars anymore I had a really hard time trying to think of a reason why Yamato didn't deserve it. Greeted and seated right away for a lunch order. Everything you need is at the table including order forms and a large menu mostly for reference if you're ordering the AYCE sushi and this is a fantastic deal $17.95. Great quality sushi , presentation and taste a definite 5 stars. I will say be careful it is easy to over order and there is a .50 charge for anything you leave behind on the plate. The AYCE isn't only sushi, they offer apps, soups and desert. I went all in on the sushi. The server was very nice and prompt on checking in with me during my meal. This is a short and sweet review because it was an outstanding experience and I will be sure to return.

The restaurant features a menu highlighting Mandarin influences, Thai, and Japanese, along with a sushi bar and hibachi tables. There's guaranteed to be something for everyone on this menu. We come for the sushi. They always have the freshest fish - Tuna, Salmon, Sea Urchin, Surf Clam, Eel, Sweet Shrimp, Abolone - you name it, they serve it. The sushi is available as sashimi style, maki roll, or there is a giant menu of different rolls and sauces to choose from. My wife loves the Sunshine Roll (tempura Lobster), and my daughter loves the plain tuna roll. I dig the Angry Spider Roll or a Volcano Roll. Crispy oysters are hearty, with a plum dipping sauce. I honestly haven't had anything I wouldn't try again! The sushi appetizer menu itself has a collection of unique presentations that have all been amazing! Before she braved the sushi my daughter often ordered off the menu, her choices ranging from chicken tempura to the Sesame Chicken or Lo mein, and always tasty with large portions. I was happy to finish later what she could not, lol. Service is good, sometimes the weekend nights get a little hectic but they make mean drinks! Get the Zombie rum mixer, it'll get ya there. My daughter always enjoys the Japanese soda they offer, nice little treat. Saki of course and Sapporo beer, there's not much you could ask for they don't have! Great place. Parking usually not an issue as much as navigating through the lot during peak periods for what it's worth.

There was only one server in the entire restaurant handling seven different tables. Despite this, our food came out at a decent time. Our server was friendly. She checked on us multiple times and refilled our drinks twice. I really loved the rolls because of their rice to filling ratio. A huge pet peeve of mine is when there is too much rice on the outside and not a lot of meat or fillings on the inside. This place did not do that. We got the California and spicy salmon rolls. Both were generously filled. I also got the soft shelled crab as an app. Nice and crispy. For dessert, we got the fried ice cream and tempura banana. Both were delicious.
