The only reason I am not going 5 stars is because the wait staff seemed confused. This is definitely a place that should ask if you've dined there before, so when you haven't, they can fill you in on how it works. Our server couldn't answer our questions about the lunch menu, and had to get another server who still didn't clear it up. Since we weren't really sure what the lunch specials included, we just ordered off the sushi list (my husband got ramen). Then the "train" really started filling in and I wish I had just been more patient. The restaurant was empty when we first arrived at about 1135, but filled in by noon. The "train" has 3pc of different rolls, pricing is based on plate color. And from what I could see, most of them were a better deal than ordering the whole roll, price-wise. I had the Bonzai roll and a Philly roll, along with the clear soup. We did pull two rolls off the train, which, I cannot positively identify, but everything was tasty and fresh. Finally, my husband also tried a pork eggroll, which was served as two smaller egg rolls, both cut in half, so a great appetizer. Being from Hawaii the belt/train sushi isn't a new concept to me. It is actually very popular and I make sure to go at least once when I'm back home. I was excited to see it in Omaha and my boyfriend and I went for their soft opening, when everything was 20% off. We tried a bunch of different things, but I have to say the best was the salmon sashimi. I know we were not alone in thinking this, because there was a big party ordering A LOT of it. However, not sure it's worth the price. My only complaint about the belt is that a lot of the time we weren't sure what we were grabbing from the train. At other sushi train places I've been to there's a picture menu so you know what you're getting. I'm sure people have fun just picking what looks good, but it'd be good to know what you did and didn't like. read more

After going to revolving sushi bars in other states this one has some things to work on. The sushi was good but it ended up being cheaper to just order rolls off the menu since the specialty rolls were on the belt and you would only get three pieces for about 4.75. Yamato Sushi is super fun, has a great vibe and is a totally different experience than what the Omaha Metro has. I am excited to see this new restaurant thriving and doing so well. The sushi train is the ultimate thing to see and experience when you are out dining at Yamato. Be careful of where you sit on the sushi train because you could be in the best spot (front or middle) where you receive all the different options of sushi or you could be placed at the end where it becomes very limited. The customer service is great at Yamato and there are plenty of options to order off the menu if the sushi that is on the train doesn't appease you. The way the pricing structure works is very interesting and works out nicely. Each plate on the sushi train is color coded to a price. Depending on the plate there could be 3-5 pieces of sushi. You stack your plates nice and high and at the end of your dining experience the person waiting on you will come over and count the various colors. This could be dangerous as we all know, sushi adds up quickly. Another point of interest while considering Yamato is the decor. I really enjoy the decor inside the restaurant, something to see and to experience, different than most restaurants. They gave me an order that was completely wrong. I was still there. So I waited and waited they kept telling me it's almost ready. Waited 2+ HOURS. THERE WERE ONLY 2 parties at the restaurant and I order 2 simple rolls. it should NEVER take that long. The food was terrible. We had a Groupon and decided to try this place. The atmosphere was pleasant enough and the greeting staff was friendly but the tables are placed too close and if you are seated next to another table, you are for sure, squished. The restaurant in theory is a fun one and the sushi rolls and sashimi were good enough but the plates that had dumplings on them were terrible. Cold, deep fat fried starch was unappetizing and not good. Our waiter came to our table just once and we had to ask for our bill. Then we weren't sure if they picked it up at the table or if we were supposed to go to the counter. The restaurant was not very busy so I'm not sure what the issue was. Any sushi lover owes to themselves to go there and treat yourself to great tasting sushi with spectacular presentation. Food here was really good. The waitstaff was good and attentive. The bathrooms were clean. The space was a little bit tight between tables, but not bad. I would definitely go back. The bottom line is that the food is good and well prepared. My only criticism is that I was with a person with a shellfish allergy, and had hoped that the sushi on the conveyor belt would have listed ingredients, or at least the name. In other similar restaurants, this seems to be common. I do look forward to going back. read more

Was so excited to see a sushi "go round" open in Omaha. I have been twice for lunch and haven't been impressed either time. It seems like one main theme for Yamato is to deep fry most of it's offerings (from sushi rolls, to dumplings, including shumai and gyoza). When deep fried food cools off, it gets soggy and doesn't taste very good. Next, they put a lot of sauce on the various rolls coming around on the "train." I was disappointed to see most of the rolls covered in mayo and/or eel sauce. I asked one server if they could put more nigiri on the train and she looked at me blankly and asked what nigiri was. The prices were decent but to me, the food was mediocre and not terribly innovative. It is really too bad, especially since it is close to my work and there are not very many sushi choices in that part of town (Sakura Bana is the only close one for me). read more

I am blown away! I have never been to a sushi train restaurant. Such a fantastic concept! Still ordered my special rolls but sampled various items from the train. Perfect way to try things you've never experienced. Don't worry, refrigerated train with glass protection. Visit just to see it! The crunchy Florida roll was great. Fresh and flavorful. Great new choice for sushi in Omaha. Sushi rolls were good and generous with fresh fish. We also had bento boxes that were delicious with great choices of entrees. Ambiance, decor, lighting and music was perfect. Sushi train in the middle was unique and a nice conversation piece. Large selection of drinks with or without alcohol. My dining partner and I got here at 4:20 p.m., so we were too early for the train, so we ordered from the menu. The first thing to say is our waitress could not have been more accommodating, and more friendly! She was a joy and such a help. She kept us informed of when our food would be coming and kept our drinks refilled. We ordered dumplings and when they came to our table, they were piping hot and delicious. We each ordered several different types of sushi rolls and they were all remarkably fresh (for those that were raw) and hot (for those that were cooked). All were very flavorful. We loved them all. I was thinking about dessert and the waitress suggested the fried Oreo. Done! My dining partner and I shared just enough fried Oreos to satisfy our sweet tooth. And along with our bill (which really was not all that bad) came a delicious little hard candy that we both enjoyed. And once again, as we exited, the waitress could not have been sweeter. Very beautiful interior and the "sushi train" is very new and clean. Prices are fairly in line with other kaitenzushi restaurants that I have been to. The nigiri were good and the rolls were tasty. My only complaint was the the availability. Kaitenzushi chefs have a very tough task of making sure that there are enough dishes out on the line with out crowding the line or wasting fish. With this in mind, there is no reason you should see 3-3.5 feet between dishes. This means the line isn't being replenished and no new dishes are being put out. Fun experience. The Sushi train keeps the Sushi cold and fresh. This is a great way to try some different types of Sushi without ordering a full dish.
