Yamato is definitely a nice addition to Omaha. If you don't know by now, it's the first conveyor-belt sushi restaurant where sushi options come strolling down the train and the plates are priced according to their color. There's a large selection from traditional sashimi, maki rolls, and some other unique creations as well as a wide menu of bentos, Chinese dishes, appetizers, etc. We dined in on a Friday and it was packed! There are seats lined up like a sushi bar, as well as tables/booths! I would expect to have some wait time as the restaurant isn't very big. We made our way to the bar while we waited and got to chat with the owners. Not only can they make a good cocktail, but they were extremely welcoming and nice! As for the food, the sushi quality was excellent. I'm no expert, but I do like my fish and I can say that everything I grabbed tasted very fresh and I was impressed with each roll. They definitely aren't stingy with their ingredients either! Service was excellent and I appreciated that the owners stopped by to make sure everything was going well. I primarily came for the sushi conveyor belt, but it wasn't open till after 5:00. I definitely wish I knew that before hand. I will probably come back a different day to try it out. I ordered on the menu instead and got ramen. There wasn't much toppings, so that was disappointing. However, the portion size was good for its price and lots of meat. But it definitely would have been better if it was balanced with all the necessary toppings and meat and noddle, rather paying primarily just for meat. I'd like the full experience. Though the presentations as lacking compared to a lot of traditional ramen. Likewise, the broth felt off the entire time. And it was strange to me that the Tonkotsu doesn't automatically come with the chasu... it was decent, but definitely not something I would get again when comparing to their places I've gone to for ramen. We went there for happy hour on a whim. It's a title but of Tokyo here in west Omaha! The appetizers came out hot and fresh. The cheesy wontons were yummy and we got six of them. The spring rolls crispy and tasty. The vegetable dumplings reminded of Yachi MunDo from Korea - they were really good. We got a non traditional Mango, Cucumber roll to split- fresh and yummy too! Chicken in the teriyaki chicken dish was old and /or over cooked, waiter brought out new chicken when we complained but NO DIFFERENCE! Really bad experience as if new ownership or cooks from first time we were there, which was maybe a 3.5 star visit. Having lived in Japan-was desperate for good Ramen - and while first visit was decent, next visit was descent... to point of no return. Yamato sushi has a lot of potential but unfortunately failed to impress me. Train sushi is a great concept that has been popular in Japan for many years and also has been around in major US cities for a while. The fact that it's finally in Omaha is great news. I was very excited to try this place out for that reason. When I went on a Friday night, we expected a long wait but was seated right away. Unfortunately this was where we encountered problems. We didn't get water until a while later after we had ordered and one of our appetizers had come. In terms of the train sushi, there was a lack of variety and what we did choose wasn't the best quailty as it was obvious that it had been on the conveyer belt for a while. Some of the rice was dried and the crunch in the tempura was not there. What we did order took an abnormally long time to come out. And while they were busy it seemed like a normal friday night dinner service at any restaurant. For the price, most of the plates only have 3 pieces at around ~$5 a plate which is not the most affordable. I'd suggest heading elsewhere if you are looking for budget friendly sushi that keeps you full. Our bill total was around $40 and I left still hungry. I love that they have a new type of way to serve sushi! I wish they caught on doing an all you can eat for one price once every week! It would be packed! They go by the color plates of prices but you can also ask your server which color plates you like to get. I had the manager wait on us and bring us the food. He was kind and friendly. I also ordered off the menu. They are reasonable prices but a bit pricy on other items they offer. I wish they had more than 3 piece on each plates! It would be better if it was at least 4 or 5. Conveyor belt Sushi! While the novelty of this place is food traveling around on a conveyor belt, it's actually delicious. My wife and I decided to try it out as we were in the area and I'm glad we did. From a Sushi perspective, you can order off the menu or grab something off the conveyor if it strikes your fancy...or both! The plates have colored rings that let you know the cost. My wife went with Sushi and thoroughly enjoyed it. I opted for the Sesame Chicken Bento Box and equally enjoyed my meal. Overall it's an intimate little place with good food and good service. First off I love sushi. The staff are very polite and helpful. The restaurant is small and quaint. This would be a good place for dates. The conveyor belt is in a U-shaped and when you see a plate you want you pull it out yourself. My first visit I spent $15 for 3 sersbif 3 rolls and one plate of pea. Looking at the price menu your best money bargain would be their lunch box specials cooked or raw. I don't think I could afford going there to lunch more than twice a month. Their prices seem to be high. You can go to Tokyo sushi in the old market and pay $17 all you can eat. I used to live out West in Portland, Oregon and we always ate at the many sushi trains. I was elated to hear that Omaha has a sushi train. For those who don't know, a sushi train is small plates of sushi on a conveyor belt going around the restaurant. This allows the customers to try many types of sushi with smaller portions and costs. You pay according to the color of the plate you grab. While Yamato definitely doesn't have the sheer quantity of other sushi trains in larger coastal cities, it had a wide selection for Omaha. In addition to sushi you can order items off the full menu and hibachi selections. They have a full cocktail bar also. The staff isn't the most alert or attentive but for a sushi train setting you shouldn't need much assistance. I've really enjoyed my stops here and look forward to going back again. read more

Shout out to Yamato for serving sushi in style! Finally got to try this place out Tuesday night. My friend and I arrived around 5:30pm and there were only 2 other parties there. But when it got closer to 6, the masses started rolling in. As soon as we were seated, we started eyeing the plates of sushi coasting down the belt. My friend tried the marinated baby octopi (green plate, $2.50) which he enjoyed more so than the larger piece of tako (purple plate, $4.50) because it was more flavorful, whereas the grown tako was rather bland. He tried something from each different colored plate-except the black one-and liked them all. I tried their seaweed salad, my staple - spicy tuna (both green plates), and a sushi taco (orange plate, $3.00). Everything was great, but the sushi taco, was hands down the winning dish. A brilliant combination of tuna pieces, green peppers, Japanese pickles, and tobiko (fish roe) drizzled in this amazing sauce and served on top of a pringles chip. The tuna was buttery soft, while the veggies and sauce gave the wacky creation a bit of zing to your tastebuds. Although I wanted to try other dishes, I couldn't say no to seconds. The sushi taco was definitely our favorite of the night, and everyone needs to give this a try! Service was consistently excellent throughout our meal. Our waitress popped by a handful of times to ask how things were going and if there was anything she could do for us. You also get a strawberry candy with your check which was a sweet surprise. A couple of tips for future visitors: 1) If you go at the time we went, there won't be much variety on the sushi train, but you can certainly put an order in and the servers will bring it to you. 2) The "green tea" is not complimentary and costs $2. I also didn't think it tasted like green tea, and speculated whether they were just serving me hot water. It certainly didn't help that the teacups were black as well, so you couldn't see the color of the liquid... 3) Ordering purely off of the sushi train is all fun and games, until you look over and see the mountain of dishes, realizing the damage you've done to your wallet. Try to go during lunch for 75¢ off regular plate prices or for their lunch special (M-Sat; 11-3pm) to get the best deal. 4) They're currently not taking any reservations, but I assume they will start to once they establish a good flow of business. 5) No happy hour, yet. So disappointed the last 2 times we were there. The 2nd time we were there was a week night. Not very much variety and only salmon and one plate of tuna sashimi was available on the train. Maybe 3 or 4 different sushi rolls, if that. The chef was not even putting items on the train! We hardly saw him as he was sitting in a back room. We didn't have a lot of time to work on our salad and miso soup because the sushi followed a little *too* quickly, which felt rushed and made me wonder if the rolls were freshly made or not. The menu is confusing. There is a lot on offer but so much of it doesn't come with any sort of description which isn't helpful. This place is so cool! They have unique and delightful cocktails. The food is fresh and delicious. In addition to the standard sushi and house rolls they have some original creations. The lunch specials are an amazing deal but overall the prices are great. The Sushi train was amazing. Typically, you want to avoid most restaurants at their peak hours, not here! The busier they are the more variety and items there are on the sushi train. The only negative I saw is that they use imitation crab meat. Had the chance to stop into this unique Omaha sushi bar. Lunch hour allowed us to get great seating. The atmosphere was very nice and allowed for great view from any spot of the "sushi train". But im sure that's the point. The waitress explained the general process and let us begin to dine to our hearts single plate desire on sushi. I did not even look to hard at the menu as I was there for some sushi train! I did notice some nice looking bento boxes and other entrées being served. Overall, Yamato was average. I had one of their fancy rolls, which was mainly good but disappointing because it was slightly burnt on one end. My mom ordered the Mongolian beef, and the quality of the beef was suspect. No one in my family was interested in finishing it! My dad ordered the sushi deluxe, which seemed like the best of their offerings. The sashimi he had was standard - not anything spectacular, but still a nice dinner nonetheless. Fiancé and I went here for our date night, July 11th was supposed to be our wedding date and due to Covid we moved it. Needless to say it was a night of celebration so we wanted to try a new sushi place. The thing that brought is here was the Naruto roll (cucumber with assorted sushi) featured in one of their first four pictures when you look at their reviews. Did t realize this place also has a sushi train. So if you are not familiar, it's kind of like a small plate sushi buffet, expect you don't get up the conveyer belt rubs right by your table and you pick and choose what you want. It awesome because it allows you to get a large assortment without ordering (and spending a lot) a bunch of stuff you want to "try". You can also order off their menu. Some of the BEST sushi in Omaha I have had, fresh and well prepared. The food was great, the service was even better. Sushi places are not normally known for their great levels of service but this place honestly made me feel like I was dining out at a friends house. So kind and even took a few requests for the sushi belt!!! I think I would come no matter what food they served because the service was next level amazing. Great family owners restaurant!! I'll start with the conveyor belt. I didn't know that there was a stop time for the belt when we stopped in for lunch. Also, the reason why the quality of sushi tastes subpar is that the sushi is too cooled. If it makes it 3 times around the belt, it'll be super lackluster and the rice will be hard. The staff is amazing and the owner is extremely handsome & gracious (he actually looks like a movie star but I can't quite place whom in my mind). Great little spot for sushi! We went on a Wednesday and there were few people there because it was rainy. Regardless, the waitress treated us very well and checked in multiple times without being overbearing. The food was incredible and seemed much higher quality than I was expecting. They essentially put a bunch of random dishes on a conveyor belt and you take what you want and are charged by the plate. I am going to start with service. They will lie. I asked about the refrigerator in the sushi conveyer belt. It wasn't on and was wondering if they will turn it on. They will reply with either "we just opened, we will turn it on after 5" or "rice get harden when we turn it on" or "We store the one that needs to be refrigerated after two cycles" and many more. I liked this restaurant when it open because of freshness they had. But after opening day, their standard went down. I went many times after 5 and the refrigerator in the conveyer belt was off. Inside the conveyer belt was room temperature. Often time I see sashimi, oyster, and nigiri moving along the conveyer belt and I can't trust how fresh it is or kept it in appropriate environment. I am very concerned about their standard because I do not want to experience food poisoning because their standard is too low. I keep hoping they will put their standard back up since I complained and deliver my concern to staff members. But I kept getting same excuse from everyone. If they can't maintain the temperature in the conveyer belt than they should not offer it to public. It is a health risk. Second, there isn't any identification of sushi in conveyer belt. Another major health risk is food allergy by peanuts. Since opening, they never put identification on the sushi. In their menu they listed peanuts in one of the sushi and it is very common item in the belt. If a customer has any nut allergy, they can suffer from anaphylaxis and cause death. They need to put a caution on the plate that it contain peanuts. This restaurant is only one with conveyer belt sushi. Many customer will come because of that. I would enjoy it more if I know what I am eating. They need to put identification on their plate What got me to write this long is that I was lied to and laughed at by the sushi chef. I am a customer and voice my concern when I can obviously point out they do not care about standard. If you want to eat fresh sushi, do not go here because sushi chef isn't there. Tonight I went there with my mother in law in a hope to have good time and eat fresh sushi. After my past complain and concern, I thought they would fix it. But, they did not change anything and kept the lowest standard. When I got there it was past 7:30 and there wasn't many people. We set there and waited for sushi. I look over to sushi chef station and it was empty. I ate few sushi but I noticed that same sushi roll kept rolling. I asked the waitress about absence of sushi chef. They replied with they will check back. When she return, she replied with "he is always there". I was insulted by their lie. I set there for 30 minutes and ate maybe 5 plates. And the station was empty the whole time. When I look at the station as the waitress asked, there was sushi chef smirking and hiding. This is very unprofessional and disgraceful attitude from the staff. Overall, this place had it going in the opening. But as they grew, it lost the potential with low standard, disgraceful attitude, and major health danger. If you are looking for sushi, AVOID this place. read more

So I would give 3.5 stars if I could. They were out of both ice cream and iced tea and the sushi train was lacking items. However it was after 2 pm. The sushi was good although nothing fancy. We had a large ramen bowl which was hearty and the pork was flavorful. The eel was fresh but the rolls are on the small side. The restaurant is super cute and intimate which I love.
