Ordered some delivery from here for supper tonight. I got their spicy crunchy yellowtail, salmon lover roll, and their yellowtail jalapeño roll. I also got their shrimp and pork gyoza. The gyoza was very good and fried well. There wasn't much to the spicy crunchy and the yellowtail jalapeño didn't have much of a kick either unfortunately. I did make up for it by mixing the Wasabi into the soy sauce. The salmon lover roll was pretty good but nothing mind blowing. read more

This was a very cool environment! There is a conveyor belt with sushi on it that weaves throughout the restaurant. If you see sushi you like, you just grab it off the train and it gets added to your bill at the end. So I went on a little bit of a sushi kick recently. This was the first one I tried. I got their Spicy Maki and a pork egg roll. The pork egg roll was decent but nothing amazing. As for the Spicy Maki, the spicy California roll was okay. The spicy Salmon roll was pretty good but blended into the spicy Tuna roll. Don't get me wrong, all in all it was fairly good but nothing outstanding like I had been hoping for. read more

Ordered clear soup, sesame chicken, California roll, and steak hibachi via door dash. Soup doesn't have a ton of flavor. Hibachi is meh, but again it was delivered, so maybe in person would have been better. Steak isn't very tender and very chewy. Again, pretty bland flavor. The sushi is fine. The fish is definitely not the star. It tastes very earthy. However, the highlight was the sesame chicken. It has a great flavor. My husband isn't a big fan of broccoli so be really enjoyed that Yamato does peppers instead. We will definitely get the sesame chicken again, but I think we may pass on the rest. read more

Yamato Sushi is good. A bunch of us were in from out of town (from all over) and someone asked about places to go for sushi. I had just eaten at Yamato the night before and I recommended it. So there you have it... I must be a fan! I stopped in on a Sunday evening. It was not crowded. The train was not running (which was okay with me). There seemed to be a bit of drama going on with the waitress and management, but she was attentive. Another member of the staff (between the waitress and management) also checked in on me. Plenty of attention, water refills, etc. I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe. It arrived with more pieces of fish than promised, which is always a plus. It had been a while since I'd had sashimi. It was good. I took my time adding wasabi (there was just the right amount) to each piece before lightly dipping it in soy sauce. Every fish was good.. even the tuna, which can often be tough, was good. I've been to Omaha a lot and searched for good sushi. I've had bad sushi in Omaha. Yamato Sushi is pretty good. Food was great, love the train of food and you can pick what you want to eat and the color of the plate is the price per plate. They range from $2-$8? Everything was a little dirty, the stand up signs of what the food was on the train, the plastic covering of the train you had to touch, and the soy sauces and other items on the tables. Service was scarce we had to wait awhile to get anyone over to our table the first time, and to get a bill at the end we had to waive someone down after 15 minutes of being done. Really fun concept. I'd definitely recommend only doing conveyor belt sushi unless you're really craving something particular. Or warm. We tricked ourselves several times grabbing things from the conveyor that would be better-enjoyed warm. But since the conveyor is refrigerated... they obviously cool off after a time (where's the reheat belt??) In terms of quality I wasn't super impressed. Clocking in at $75, I'd prefer to spend the money elsewhere. But the facilities and serce were quite good. But the food wasn't quality enough for us to find our way back in all honesty. read more

The wait to order was about 15 minutes which is a bit longer than usual. The ramen was awful that our waitress had to comp because it was not edible. The chicken wings were bland and didn't have that much flavor. The sushi's on the conveyor belt were smaller than the average sushi rolls you would expect. The Train is filled very nicely and has some great selections from Edamame, Seaweed Salads, All kinds of Rolls, awesome Sashimi and some great Squids. I wish they put a bit more Nigiri on the Belt but there is plenty of great options. The pricing is also really great for Omaha and does not skip on quality or size. This is the first time I've ever gone to a place that has a conveyor belt for sushi, and honestly, that is so cool. So I sat down with a friend for sushi Wednesday evening, and I ordered the ramen and some sashimi. It was really good, however I did not like the egg that was on the ramen. It's not your typical seasoned soft-boiled egg, but it was still a seasoned boiled egg. I guess I'm not used to it personally, but overall, the ramen was so filling. Amazing! The sushi was on point!! We did a little happy dance after the first bite! My husband and I went here on New Year's Eve, last-minute. It had a steady flow of people. The sushi train is cool, we didn't get anything from it but it was interesting to see all the variety they offer. Maybe put a label next to the plate We ordered off of the menu. Just an idea. We kept looking at the little train menu then trying to figure out which color plate goes with what roll. The sashimi comes with 3 per order (most are 2) and were pretty good size cuts. The salmon lover roll is really good. We added jalapeños, unagi sauce, siracha, crispy tempura flakes and spicy mayo on one (I hate mayo). We called it the Tasmanian devil. Hopefully they add it to the menu!! We ordered 4 lol The service was great, we had the manager as our server. I wish I remembered her name. She was totally accommodating and didn't seemed annoyed by us. You know you can tell when you're being annoying. lol She kept the drinks flowing and gave us complementary dessert. I absolutely LOVE Yamato Sushi! Everything I have tried so far (which is quite a lot lol) has been wonderful! Everyone on the staff is super nice and ready and willing to help you out with anything. I love the idea of smaller portions of sushi, so I can try more kinds of rolls before filling to the point of bursting. The only downside to getting rolls off of the train that snakes around the restaurant is that the vast majority of them have started to use avocado. I have a severe allergy which keeps me from being able to consume the rolls in which it appears :( read more

We stopped in for sushi after a late (9:40 pm) after a soccer game and were thrilled they were open until 10. We were seated promptly- and, were the only patrons in the main dining area at that time though others from a party in back were starting to leave. The restaurant has a cool conveyer system that allows the people preparing the sushi to plate in smaller portions and send out on the conveyer. The tables are all seated next to the sushi belt and you can take whatever sushi catches your eye- paying by the color of plate your sushi is on. From 2.50-5.00/plate. It was reasonable. By the time we were eating, they weren't sending new sushi out and the ladies waiting on us asked repeatedly if we'd like to order from the menu- but the sushi that was left was very good and satisfied us so we declined. However, the coolest part of the experience was that the waitress asked why we were eating so late and when we explained that we had driven from St.Louis that morning to watch our son play in a soccer game against the Nebraska state champs and they had just finished (our team won 2-0). She congratulated our son on the win and brought him a plate of fried Oreos! It was incredibly thoughtful. They were fantastic! While the novelty of strategically grabbing a spot near the start of the sushi train so you have first dibs on all the best items is fun, it's not the only reason to visit Yamato. For one, the food is quality for the price. Two, if grabbing a caboose full of sushi isn't your thing, there's plenty of other options you can order off the menu. In additions, the decor is quite nice. Our server was on top of all our needs. A manager came by to see how everything was. I even like the location - relatively easy to get to from any part of town. Fun place for sushi in Omaha. Went here on a Saturday night with a friend. It wasn't crazy busy and we were able to be seated right away. I love the sushi train! There are different colored plates so you know how expensive it's going to be when you pull it off. I like that I can try the fancy rolls without having to get a full roll. Stopped in for dinner on Sunday evening right at five. First tip is if you want to eat off the sushi train come around 5:30. It doesn't start until 5 and it was slow to get things going but by 5:30 it was at full steam. It was also odd that one of the first things to come out was a variety of cakes? Guess if you want to start with dessert that's ok. The service was very friendly and I really enjoyed the ability to try a variety of things coming off the line rather than ordering full rolls, dishes etc. I was a little disappointed as I was hoping for more stuff to be available, it seemed that they had limited items rolling thru. Everything was fairly tasty but I really felt the quality of the salmon and tuna sashimi was not the best. Overall I couldn't help but wonder/question the quality of the food here. My wife ordered the broccoli chicken and has to eat gluten free so to be safe she requested no sauce. Her food was extremely bland and every other bite of it was cold. Very disappointing. The Sushi Train wasn't operating in mid-afternoon, when we arrived, so we can only review what we experienced. Sushi? Hmmmm. Not the best, potentially in the running for the worst we've had. Rolls were HUGE, slices thin and awkward. Wraps were loose and we had trouble picking them up with our chopsticks because they kept coming apart. Crab did not look, taste like crab - more like Krab. It really was less-than-satisfying. Wait staff was welcoming but didn't understand everything we asked, table service didn't knock it out of the park as she seemed to forget about us and sat in the back to wrap silverware and napkins. We won't be back: our late lunch cost us far more than Blue Sushi -- where we can always depend on appearance and quality. read more

I would say that I really enjoyed this place and sushi is definitely worth the price! I had a chirashi and that itself was very filling and you get big thick pieces of sushi! By the time I finished i was very full and satisfied. The presentation of the dish was also beautiful, definitely felt I was at a higher end restaurant than it really is. (It's more of a casual atmosphere) The service was also great, it got pretty busy and so our waiter didn't really stop to check up on us. My friends wanted to order more a-la-carte but couldn't without the server. The manager notice however and apologized and took our order immediately. I was impressed with the service he wanted to give to everyone. I also like the sushi train, this is very common where I used to live but really liked the fact the sushi is protected by a clear plastic tube where you have to open to pull out the sushi. Eight minutes and a few seconds. That's about how long it takes for the conveyor belt to make a full revolution. So, if you let that plate with the salmon avocado rolls go past you, it won't be back for eight minutes. Don't let that happen. Slide back that window and snag it! I do plan to be back and received great, attentive service, but two things concern me about Yamato's business model. To put it another way, I'm worried about them long term. We finally got a 回転寿司 (conveyor belt sushi) place in Omaha and I want to see it last! Yamato just strikes me as a bit unfocused. Tl;DR: Why isn't Yamato all about the conveyor belt sushi? 1) The sushi train aspect is secondary. Sure, the plates roll along in front of you and get to tempt you the entire time. That's just the baseline. There's no way for you to request something that is going to then come sliding around the belt for "seat 21" (or something). Nor are there any little tags or paper signs to help you identify some mystery food that has just come sliding around. Not a good thing when a lot of the things I saw come around were not even listed as potentials for that plate color. 2) The menu is too vast. It has bento boxes, basic American Chinese fare, a whole swaree of appetizers, and more. It's excessive and enough to distract from the main event. Which leads me to how the special lunch menu should be reworked. Right now it is more cost effective for someone to order exclusively off the 4$ roll options (6 pieces per roll) than to even pull a plate. Instead, choosing to pull plates should be incentivized, like a cheap soup and salad option or five plates or more gets you 20% off. (Correction: it would seem there is a discount per plate during the lunch hour) As an aside, I think the bento boxes are a missed opportunity and could be reworked as either a to-go thing or, for the really ambitious, as a catering option. You know, play both sides of the market? And one last thing: there are actual conveyor belt sushi places that have a train deliver the plates. This is not one of those places. read more

I still really enjoy the experience this place provides and have been back probably 6 times since my initial review, but it isn't a 5-star experience. When I have been for dinner, I get the impression that items not sold on the belt over lunch are put back on the train for the dinner hour, which I get, don't throw it out if you don't have to, but I don't want to see browning avocado in the rolls. Overall, they do provide a nice variety of rolls and will continue to frequent in the future. I have also sampled some of the non sushi train items such as Pad Thai and Lo Mein and really enjoyed both. read more

We decided to come back here for a date night, and I was still so amazed. The food is so fresh and delicious. I loved that this time there seemed to be more appetizer type food on the conveyor belt than before. A great selling point to this place is the fact that the menu is always different. My finaceé and I tried Octopus for the first time. I was so nervous, but once I tried a piece, it was actually great. I wouldn't eat it on a regular basis but it was good. Brand new concept to Omaha: conveyer belt sushi! We are finally making it into the big leagues with some very common and popular styles of sushi dining that other bigger cities know and love. Sushi trains are a fun way to eat, where the chef continually makes food and sends it to circulate around an automated belt. You are able to try small portions of rolls, apps, and nigiri without having to dine with many people. It makes the experience faster as well since you don't technically need to order off the menu and wait for your food. For example, a standard roll at a popular place in Omaha would have 6-8 pieces to an order, but on the sushi train plates it's about 2-3 pieces, meaning you can try more things with a small party. I had a very nice visit to their establishment on their soft opening day- and also enjoyed 20% off my bill. The design in here is very beautiful. They have mixed different textiles, textures and Asian calligraphy to make it a new spin on traditional decor. It fits the vibe of other new restaurants and neighborhoods in town, and attracts the right kind of crowd too. Clean, airy, and pleasing to the eye. The sushi belt layout is logical, and sitting along the belt allows you to either take a plate circling around or order off the menu (you dont HAVE to take food from the train- in fact there is some booth seating not in reach of the sushi train). In popular sushi belt places in Hawaii, the belt stays packed with people and sushi/apps circulating regularly but here, the pace is slower as I am sure they are measuring what items will be more popular. Staff was friendly and nice and no hiccups even though it was opening day! Sushi was fresh, not soggy, and the sushi rice had good flavor. Fish on my sashimi/nigiri platter that I ordered off the menu was fresh and good quality. Sushi go round! I'm a happy girl! I went for lunch today because I couldn't wait for Not Husband. I was there at 11am and they were already open with people seated and more coming through the door! The sushi is freshly made, so freshly made there was nothing on the belt when I sat down at opening. Attentive staff really want you to enjoy the experience. I was giving a single sided paper which explains the pricing for the color coded plates. I sat and watched as sushi was prepared and was in my happy place. I was provided a small plate of pickled ginger and wasabi; I was checked on often but not hovered over. I was hoping for unagi (fresh water eel) but there wasn't any today. I had a wonderful time picking thing off the belt and making happy humming noises. ~LOL~ I had 5 plates for $17 dollar. Since it was the soft opening, I was give the 20% off. Very kind of them. Staff were friendly and the place was packed. Service was slow due to the restaurant only having 2 servers for the entire place. The server even apologized at the end of our meal.
