After several people asked they finally started to put a few things out in the train ... pre packaged drinks and salads and then basic rolls like cream cheese and crab or cucumber. I ordered a sushi and sashimi lunch ... sashimi was decent size and the cuts were ok, nigiri was paper thin and similar cuts, and a California roll on the side. This would have been 4 or 5 stars for the quality and price, but we ordered the 12 piece sashimi lunch and it was incredibly disappointing. The opening of this place is a great surprise for me as sushi is my favorite dish and I love conveyor belt sushi, so it's like a double treat for me. The location also pretty good. I like that the seating is quite balanced between the regular tables and the sushi train. Also love that they also serves Chinese food and I believe this is new in the menu since I didn't see it on my first visit - ramen! Whenever I come there's always seating available but it's not empty either, so it's good. Omaha has been really upping their sushi game, with new places opening up like Umami in Bellevue, Yoshitomo in Benson and now Yamato Sushi! It was not very busy for lunch on a Saturday, maybe like 3 other tables were there. I got one of their lunch specials - a salad, miso soup and 2 rolls for $8. Very worth it as a plate for 3 pieces of spicy tuna went for $3 on the train vs. the 6 pieces you get for $4. I went with eel avocado and yellowtail jalapeño. The eel came with huge chunks of avocado and a thin sliver of eel, but it was still really good. The yellowtail on the other hand came with a pretty decent sized chunk of fish, but it was just okay. I couldn't really taste anything but the jalapeño. Grabbed a green plate ($2.50) of marinated baby octopi off the train that I really enjoyed. I was eyeing out a purple plate ($4.50) of salmon sashimi, but when I finally decided to grab it, someone else must have gotten to it before me. One of the waitresses was able to quickly bring me a fresh plate when I asked her for it though. It was buttery and came with 3 thick slices. Overall, this is definitely one of the better sushi places in Omaha. It can rack up $$$ if you eat solely picking off the train or a la carte, but their lunch specials are a great deal. Their sushi train is different from the ones I've tried back home in Hawaii in that it's completely covered (you slide open a little door to grab what you want - fun and you can definitely feel the refrigerated air). Probably a good idea for food safety because they aren't quite busy enough yet to have new plates constantly cycling in. Also felt like the conveyer belt moved really slowly, but that could be just me being impatient haha. Service is okay. They get their fish fresh on Tuesday and Friday and we were told that Friday and Saturday nights feature some special dishes. They happily accommodated my request for gluten free soy sauce and kept our wasabi and ginger replenished. Our bellies were full for a mere $55 (including tip), prices here are more reasonable than Blue Sushi Sake Grill and as far as I can tell, the quality is the same if not better. But once we got the right order, the food was good. Then we gave it another go a couple nights ago and got take out. We ordered online and showed up about 25 mins after we ordered. When we got there they didn't realize an order had come through their online ordering system. They began to make our order. After another 20 mins waiting we got our food. I went here with a couple of my friends today excited to experience the conveyer belt but was extremely disappointed. The sushi was not the best and the belt had very limited options. The only things that were available were the sesame balls and octopus. By the time the sushi came to you it was already gone and the same ones kept going around. If you don't know by now, it's the first conveyor-belt sushi restaurant where sushi options come strolling down the train and the plates are priced according to their color. There's a large selection from traditional sashimi, maki rolls, and some other unique creations as well as a wide menu of bentos, Chinese dishes, appetizers, etc. We dined in on a Friday and it was packed! There are seats lined up like a sushi bar, as well as tables/booths! I would expect to have some wait time as the restaurant isn't very big. We made our way to the bar while we waited and got to chat with the owners. Not only can they make a good cocktail, but they were extremely welcoming and nice! As for the food, the sushi quality was excellent. I'm no expert, but I do like my fish and I can say that everything I grabbed tasted very fresh and I was impressed with each roll. They definitely aren't stingy with their ingredients either! Service was excellent and I appreciated that the owners stopped by to make sure everything was going well.
