Oishi Kitchen has been on my list of places to try for a while and we finally came to dine with family visiting from Hawaii. My mom is originally from Japan so she is very picky when it comes to Japanese food. She was so happy with everything we ordered, she wants to come back next time she visits. We ordered the geso (fried squid legs), grilled squid, ahi tataki (seared ahi special), katsu don, shishito peppers, yakitori combo, variety meat combo, udon, and Kalbi. Everything was cooked perfectly and was so tasty! My mom is still raving about the katsu don! I can honestly say this is the best and most authentic Japanese restaurant in Kitsap County. Wow, the serving sizes are huge! My husband and I shared the fried chicken skins. Perfect way to start the meal, and they have a denser texture than pork rinds if you're wordering. Definitely worth a try! I ordered the karaage chicken bowl. There was a lot of chicken pieces and a heavy serving of "egg fried rice" underneath. Very filling, and very delicious. The chicken is fried, and it comes with green onion which breaks up the creamy richness from the egg and fried chicken flavors. It was so much food, I had leftovers to take home for lunch the next day. The entrees come with miso soup before the meal arrives at your table, so we were happy with the fried chicken skin appetizer and miso soup starter, then to finish it off with our entrees. Everything tasted good, hot and fresh. The staff were friendly, fast, and attentive. It's located in a shopping strip next to a gas station. Tried Oishi today with my wife and we loved it! The service was fast and friendly,and we really enjoyed the comfortable ambiance. We really enjoyed everything we tried! We got and appetizer, and two entrees and the total came out to about $40 so it's a very affordable option. One thing to note: there are certain options (yakitori) that are only available during dinner time, so keep that in mind! But overall we really liked it, and we will be back soon! read more

We were looking for some authentic Japanese food after a trip to Japan. We knew we were on the right place when the wait time was 25 minutes on a Friday night. I am not sure if they take reservations and it really didn't matter to us. We were seated after 15 minutes and were greeted by friendly staff. We asked for recommendations and were happy to order a variety of menu items, some upon recommendations and some out choosing. Food was brought out in a timely manner and everything was great. The server we had was great, she was on top of everything as well as making sure to take care of us. 5 stars to her The rest was not so great, we ordered Ramen and Curry Katsu Chicken. The ramen mentioned it came with toppings which fell short. There was a few green onions and an egg. The broth was bland, requested hot chili or chili flakes and chili oil. This helped but still bland but with chili oil. The ramen noodles seemed similar to a package of ramen. The pieces of meat, I could not tell if they were frozen and warmed up or if actually sliced and grilled. The Curry Katsu was pasty and salty. Hard to remove the film from my mouth after I left even with drinking water. For apps, ordered California Roll & Karaage Fried Chicken. The roll came with a drop of wasabi that was more lime green than dark. Makes me wonder if it is watered down or generic brand. The chicken seemed to be missing a season but cooked and coated properly. Watching them put sauces on the side, they are using store bought rather than making their own which was disappointing. Finally an actual Japanese restaurant with excellent food! What I ordered is super delicious!Tonkatsu ramen was very nice, I love the broth and I like how the pork was not too fatty! The geso was seasoned well and it taste really nice. There's suppose to be 6 gyoza pieces, but the other 3 was in my stomach. First off, the food at Oishi Japanese Kitchen (OJK) is top notch authentic. Here's a rarity: Japanese food prepared by Japanese people who lived in Japan! I spent over 5 years altogether in Japan during my active duty career in the Navy so I know good vs bad Japanese food! Highly recommend the chicken Katsu curry! That being said, the service can be a little slow because they prepare it well. OJK is very affordable! Their prices are good! Not in the stratosphere like most eateries in the Bremerton/Silverdale area. My only complaint is the seating area is too small! We order out nearly every time we visit because their tables are never available. My suggestion is to buy out the either of the businesses to the right or left (both of which are struggling to make it) or move to a larger venue. read more

The Karaage Fried Chicken Wrapped in Seaweed was wrapped in hot sticky rice. It was a pretty dish but when eating it the chicken was no longer crispy. It would have been tastier with a sauce. One note mushy. I also had the cold noodle dish with a spicy peanut sauce and chicken. An attractive dish but a few more vegetables would be nice. The sauce was good. The main reason for my low rating is the lack of a restroom available to patrons.
