The portions sizes are generous for the prices. They are also very good at making accommodations when asked, which I appreciate. The service is kind and thoughtful but also efficient and fast. We love coming here not just because the food is great but also because we know the customer service will add to our experience. Definitely worth the drive and everyone always leave happy. The sushi options in Gresham/Rockwood always seem a little dicey to me, so when my wife suggested we try this place I was very skeptical to say the least. The restaurant is in a store front and small, so I was even more unsure of what was about to happen. But the staff was very nice and then I was intrigued by their expansive menu with a lot of appetizing options. The menu was maybe even too big. My wife and I each got one roll, my son got the teriyaki bowl and our young daughter got the California roll. We were all very pleasantly surprised with how fast the food came, how good it tasted and how appealing it looked. We were also blown away with how big the rolls are! And I mean the individual pieces were big; so much so that we had a hard time fitting them in our mouths. One roll usually isn't enough for me but these were large and full, so it was very filling. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because it's a little on the expensive side and even though they're filling, the size of the pieces make it difficult to eat. read more

I went here to have a family dinner and we had a great time. The restaurant was clean, the lighting felt perfect, and all staff we encountered were helpful, friendly, and most of all patient. We were greeted and seated pretty much immediately after entering the restaurant. Our server came and introduced himself and asked if we had questions and/or were ready to order. We asked for more time and were given that. Yami has an extensive menu of sushi, appetizers, Teriyaki, and other things. There were 7 of us, so we ordered quite a bit. We ordered the Tempura Roll, Spicy Edamame, Jalapeño Tempura, Salmon Lover roll, Avocado roll, Calamari roll, Super Spicy Tuna roll, the Roll combo, Fried Onion roll, Scallop bubble, Baked Green Mussels, Salmon Belly Sashimi, Hurricane roll, Pork Fried Rice, and the Dragon roll. All of the food was delicious!! We had leftovers and I was so happy to take them home to savor later. The Salmon Lover roll and Spicy Edamame were my favorites, if I have to choose. The Pork Fried Rice smelled delicious and tasted even better. The mussels were perfect and my only complaint is that we didn't get more. The prices are on the higher side, but I felt it was worth it because of the variety offered. Yami had things on the menu that I hadn't seen at other places. Everyone was so kind! And its a cute quiet spot. The chicken yakisoba, gyozas and the volcano roll were all soooo good. The veggies in the yakisoba look like they also get grilled just a teensy bit but its enough to give it that wonderful charred flavor with an amazing crunch! I hate soggy vegetables in my noodles but here its very clear its all fresh! Come for the sushi! This is definitely one of the best, possibly the best place in Gresham for sushi. Their yakisoba is pretty good too. I also appreciate the ambiance and decor in the restaurant; every table has beautiful fresh orchids in bloom. And the service is always great. However, I cannot recommend the ramen, it's not good at all. The broth is very salty--the flavor relies entirely on the saltiness without much depth or complexity. There is only one kind of broth available, and it's vegan. It is possible to make a richly flavored vegan broth, but it would take more time and ingredients. I would suggest adding miso paste while decreasing the salt. Also some kombu seaweed and a ton of onions would make it tasty. The current broth basically tastes like watered down soy sauce. The options for ramen are: vegetable, chicken or shrimp tempura. I chose shrimp tempura, and regretted it. Way too much tempura batter on the 2 shrimp, and they were set in the broth, so the batter was all soggy and gross. Shrimp could work well in ramen if it was just fresh shrimp poached in broth. Seriously, take this tempura shrimp option for ramen off the menu!!! The hard boiled egg in the ramen was way over boiled with a chalky yolk. The shiitake mushrooms had a nice flavor but unpleasant rubbery texture. There was broccoli, shredded carrots and cabbage in the ramen, which I enjoyed but those things just don't belong in ramen, honestly. I understand that at a place like this, most customers are coming in for the sushi, so ramen is an afterthought, but since the season has changed, ramen is very desirable on a cold rainy day. All in all, the ramen is so bad that I think they should take it off the menu immediately, and only bring it back if they can come up with a ramen that is truly inspired and tasty, not some weird gross afterthought. read more

Ordered take out from this place for dinner tonight and to start off, the girl that took my order had a really hard time pronouncing sashimi. My order was missing a roll...it was weird because I asked her what the total is after I ordered and she said 179 some but when my nephew picked it up, it was 154. I guess they took a roll off and didn't even tell me? Then the seaweed salad came in a box that was inside of a plastic bag and ALL the sauce was in the plastic bag. The package sucked for that. All the nigiri and sashimi were fine. Nigiri are definitely overpriced in my opinion, but the ingredients are pretty fresh. We ordered 6 rolls (only got 5) and they were all average. Ordered the teriyaki beef and it was REALLY dry. It was pretty much jerky dry.....not really what I was expecting since it's a sushi & teriyaki spot. They are not skimpy on the sauces though. Most sushi places charge you for spicy Mayo, but they gave us 6 of them with more than enough soy sauce as well. Didn't give us any utensils though, but I understand a lot of places don't these days unless you ask for it. read more

First off.... Wow. I am so surprised, impressed and just astounded I have tried this place. Not being too familiar with the area and wanting some sushi- saw this place had great Yelp reviews and I can 100% see why. First off, located in a pretty easy shopping center with McDonald's, Dental, Nails, etc. Parking can be a bit tight and small, but I was able to easily find parking for weekday lunch. Upon entering, the hosts/servers greet me and seat me inside. I noticed how everything was very very clean, no funky fishy odor and even the artificial plants on the tables were dusted off ( impressive). Menu is by the barcode scanner, but I was having some issues with mine and the server was nice enough to bring me a paper copy. Picked a few choices I've been craving and a nice cup of hot green tea. OMG. Their Hot green tea is the best. Not bitter, full of toasted rice or barley fragrant. Sushi came out relatively quick - 5 /10 min wait? And the quality--- WAS AMAZING. I've had a lot of experience in a sushi industry and can tell the difference from a proper prepared sushi rice to the quality and care it takes for the fish. These guys have nailed it. To top it off, they also nailed down the main sauces. From Sunomono in their salad, to Spicy Mayo. Service was great, food was delicious, whole place ( even bathrooms) were very clean. 100% Reccomend to Friends and Family. Definitely try them out. Sashimi was also a decent portion. Better late than never, if ur looking for the best sushi place you should check this out the flavors explodes in ur mouth we haven't found anything like it here in las vegas yet, this is a must try their yakisoba is so delicious. The staff is very friendly and you will see that their craft is authentic because of the Japanese chef that u will see once u enter the place. Worth a drive if ur far from it but loves sushi!!
