I ordered the chicken teriyaki and gyoza combo with hot green tea First off the water that was used to make the tea was foul. It took about two minutes for them to bring out the teriyaki chicken which was bone dry and hard as a rock. The gyoza skin was like biting into dry cardboard. It was obvious the food was pre-prepared hours if not days before and then heated in a microwave. Even the rice was dry and hard. My advice is to avoid this place before wasting your money and possibly risk getting sick. This is not authentic Japanese food. It's a poor imitation. There wasn't a Japanese person in the entire establishment. No self-respecting Japanese person would eat here. The place is decorated nicely but it's only window dressing to entice people inside. This spot is bomb! It was a nice find after a day of skiing on Mt. Hood. The kalbi ribs were tender and tasty. They have a massive menu of sushi which I plan to try next time. The restaurant was very clean and waiters quick and kind. read more

My first time ever visiting Oregon from CA... Went to this Yami Sushi & Teriyaki on the first day. WOW! Their rolls were amazingly good!! I loved their edamame (special sauce) and the not so spicy seaweed salad. Guess what? My friends and I went three times during our 4day/3 night stay . Wanted to try everything! Btw, their restroom was so spick and span clean (learned the wife owner goes in several times a day to clean the bathroom). Overall, this was an impressive place! The location really does not match the quality of food served here. I got 3 rolls: the crunch, Portland, and the salmon lover. The fish they use is insanely tender, lacks the scent of the ocean, and melts in your mouth. Service couldn't have been better either, every single person in the restaurant came by and made sure I was taken care of. I have been going here for years. Nice outer east side option since there are few good locations nearby. Good rolls, larger than expected so be careful when ordering as you may over order! To note however there service the last few times has not been the best. Appears servers are either inexperienced or just don't care. Long waits, don't communicate those waits and walk by without checking on you. Multiple tables were obviously flustered, not just me. After finishing my table and the one next to me waited over 20 minutes after clearly finishing before our waiter checked on us for a check and then another 10 minutes just to get up to pay at the front. read more

I was devastated when they had to remodel, they were closed from approximately October 2019 to August 2020. That is far too long for me. When I saw a food panel truck pull into the parking lot, I knew, I knew they were open again. I immediately called and placed a take away order. I ordered my tried and true. Chicken Yakisoba, Chicken Teriyaki Plate, and California Roll. My experience thus far, I have dined in about 10 times, take away about 30 times. Currently this is my favorite Sushi / Teriyaki / Japanese restaurant in Gresham / Troutdale area. There are far too few great if even edible restaurants in the Gresham area. Yami's inconspicuous locale might fool you, but be sure to head inside for some great sushi and teriyaki. The staff are friendly, the air is comfortable, music is never too loud, and the food is delicious. I have yet to be disappointed by one of their sushi rolls. Every single one I have tried has been delicious and beautifully presented. I do wish they could find the time to make dumplings from scratch. Pot-stickers that are deep fried are not pot-stickers at all, they are gyoza and I pass on them always. There are plenty of sushi restaurants in this part of town, but in my experience Yami is the only one that does not require a stomach of steel to eat at and wont leave you broke afterwards. read more

We've been here twice and both times were very impressed with the service, the ambiance and the food. It's nice to have choices, especially well described ones. It you're not in the mood for sushi have the excellent teriyaki or other cooked choices. The Crunch (tuna) sushi and Bubble Scallop sushi were excellent. The California rolls are also very full of flavor and the ginger and wasabi portions (if you want them) are very generous. A very clean, hidden gem of a restaurant with a bistro atmosphere. I just came in with my 3 kids and husband and the lady at the front told us that 20% gratuity will be included on our bill because we are a party of 5. My daughter is two.. and they counted her. We walked right out because that's ridiculous especially because they just raised their prices too. Now a party of 5 adults I can understand but a family of 5, 3 of which are young kids. Why??? This was our go-to sushi spot and now I'm pissed I have to look for another one or only order take-out from here but honestly I'm too upset with the treatment we just had, that I'm not sure we will even order take-out. Big loss for your restaurant losing regular customers, who by the way, actually tip generously when not forced but EARNED. read more

We've been here so often I've stopped counting! First time we came here was about 3 years ago, and we go here at least once a month. I think I've memorized the menu about 10 times already! Sushi is so good, I've gone to maybe 10 other places and NONE can compare! So fresh, so delicious, so QUICK! We had a big group and within 15-20 min all the food was out! I bring all my friends here, I definitely recommend the Vegetable Udon, it is absolutely delicious! The service is fantastic and they remember us every time. Food: Chicken breast teriyaki- Comfort food style. Delicious sauce, nicely grilled chicken. Comes with fresh salad and rice. I liked the dressing (it may be called sesame dressing) of the salad. Oregon roll- I noticed in their menu photos that their rolls are packed with lots of rice. The roll we received was the same, and I like my sushi rolls with less rice. I did not like how the salmon on top of the roll was thinly sliced. The ingredients were fresh. Ikura (salmon roe) nigiri- Fresh. It arrived immediately with the sushi roll so the seaweed paper was fresh and crispy. Atmosphere: Nicely decorated restaurant with a red theme that showed off Japanese culture. Staff: Friendly, waiter checked in on our table once when we got our food. COVID Safety Measures: Staff wore masks. Social distancing enforced. Store offered hand sanitizer. Menu on mobile. Came for dinner at 8, wouldn't seat us. Guess they need to change their posted business hours. I wouldn't waist time visiting when Gen Sushi is closer and the staff is more accommodating. Coming in 10 min to closing is one thing, this is arbitrary turning away customers who drove to your restaurant. If your staff doesn't want to work late I suggest an earlyer posted closing time. How ever after getting home and chowing down I found a fucken pubic hair " very thin curly hair" in my poke salad! Obviously grossed me out to the point that I had to throw the meal away. My other half and I thought it must be a fluke and brush it off. Well! Then why did we find another hair type "straight and black " in her chicken dish.? So fucken sick to my stomach. If anyone is interested in eating random body hair this is the place for you! Even if it was a fluke, Covid is at its at most high and as a health/safety standard to keep hair out of the food... Service was great and super fast! The restaurant is a good size, not too small but also not too large. They were able to accommodate a group of 9 that walked in while we were dining. We got seated, ordered, and got our food within 20 minutes. We ordered the chicken & gyoza combo which was a good size for the price.
