After my first consultation, I was confident that I was in good hands; and within two weeks I was in the operating room after being cleared by both the Ophthalmologist and Optometrist for PRK--which is a bit more safe but tedious in recovery compared to LASIK. The entire staff are very accommodating, meticulous and pleasant to talk to. I called in countless times before committing and always had my questions thoroughly answered by Marvin. Leslie from the front desk always makes me feel at home when I step into the institute. I never felt pressured by Dr. Pham or Dr. Huynh to proceed with treatment, even though they took an abundance of tests on my eyes and clearly explained the risks and rewards of PRK--all before I even paid! I remember clearly when Dr. Pham told me, "Even if you don't get LASIK/PRK with us, I want you to leave this institute knowing to stop rubbing your eyes." My mom and I were definitely very anxious before surgery, but Orange County Lasik Institute made us feel safe with my decision. As I mentioned, PRK is more tedious in recovery compared to LASIK--which if you didn't know, LASIK will give you 20/20 vision the next day! On the other hand, I'm writing this review four months post-surgery, and while I'm seeing 20/20 with no complaints, Dr. Huynh assured me during the countless post-op visits that my clarity can continue to improve for up to a year. From the moment I called to make the appointment, her and her staff was always very attentive and kind. The only time I was nervous during this process was that generally you're told you're supposed to get at least 3 consults before making a decision and I didn't; but I already knew it was going to be a waste of time if I went for other consults. As many reviews have pointed out, Dr Erb is double board certified in Oculoplastics surgery and ophthalmology. I knew I was in good hands and I'm so glad I was right! When I went in for a consult, I was unfortunately not a good candidate for LASIK. Dr. Feinerman suggested another procedure called EVO ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) that I was a good fit for. Despite the higher cost compared to LASIK, I was totally on board. I scheduled my surgery appointment afterwards and I was given instructions on how to prepare for the procedure (I had to put eye drops in beforehand). The surgery center Dr. Feinerman used was in Tustin (Barranca Surgery Center). I had a very early appointment and I didn't have to wait too long. The procedure took what felt like 10 minutes, but could have been way longer (the anesthesia worked like a charm!). I had my sister drive me home, there is no way you should try to drive yourself home after getting this done!! Immediately after the surgery, my vision had a noticeable improvement, with sensitivity to light. Over the next 3 months, my vision stabilized and I don't have dry eyes as often anymore. BEWARE!!! In 2026, I received my FIRST mailed notice regarding an alleged unpaid balance for…read moreservices provided in 2022--about 4 YEARS AFTER the date of service. The letter stated that this was a final notice and that my account would be sent to collections if payment was not made. I contacted the business to ask why I was only being notified four years later. Instead of receiving a clear explanation, I was met with an unprofessional attitude and was NOT given a satisfactory answer. During the phone call, the representative acknowledged that the office's billing notification system was outdated. They stated that past-due notices had ONLY been sent through automated 3rd-party text messages rather than directly from the business. The representative also stated that the office KNEW MANY customers believed these text messages were SCAMS and ignored them because they did not come from the business itself. The business only recently updated its system to begin sending paper notices YEARS AFTER THE FACT. I believe this is an unfair billing practice. If the business knew its notification system was ineffective and that customers were disregarding the messages as potential scams, it should have taken reasonable steps to notify patients through more reliable methods instead of allowing accounts to remain unresolved for years. As a result, my first mailed notification arrived 4 years after the alleged balance was incurred, and it was already labeled as a FINAL NOTICE WITH the THREAT of COLLECTIONS. I am writing this COMPLAINT because I believe the business FAILED to provide timely and effective notice of the alleged balance before attempting collection. I also encourage anyone in a similar situation whose credit is in danger of being impacted to review their payment records and confirm with their credit card company whether the balance was previously paid. Do your own research because this experience has left me with little confidence in how patient accounts are managed.
