My House, Your House, No... Yard House! Yes Yard House, with many locations around the country, this one was in Oxnard CA. Never been to a Yard House before, a very massive restaurant/ Bar, boasting what seems like over 100 beers on draft, the bar area is impressive. Absolutely love the booths here, you can easily have a party of 8 comfortably in these booths. I ordered the Jambalaya, sausage, shrimp, even crawfish, great flavor sauce over rice, the sauce was the perfect amount too, not drenched. Wife had the BBQ cheeseburger, she said it was nice. I had to try the Clam Chowder before my lunch, it was really good, just not great, I'm picky about my Clam Chowder though, she had a Caesar Salad, great flavor. This wide open space can house easily 150 guests with no problem, my lunch was good I enjoyed that jambalaya, waitress was great. This was our first time visiting Yard House. We were a party of 4 with 2 adults and 2 teens. We weren't greeted when we walked in, we were ignored for a few minutes while the hostess was on the Ipad. Finally we checked in and sat and waited to be seated. We were seated at a large booth. It was nice to be spread out and not squished next to each other. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer and they were delicious. For dinner I ordered the bbq chicken pizza. It was lacking sauce and was dry. Nothing special about it. My boys both ordered a burger and they said it was a typical burger. They only got a small handful of fries. I'd compare this place to a BJ's Brewhouse, except more expensive. I'd save yourself some money and go there instead. I wasn't impressed. read more

Oh my gosh I used to come in and only get a water and mac and cheese, which was great. However this time I wanted to try something "healthier," so I got a traditional caesar which was amazing! Went on a Friday night at around 7:30pm. Was told a 45-min wait. So we left our number and went for a beer in the annex. They don't take reservations so if you don't wanna wait then come early. However, the "45-min wait" was actually 20 mins for us. We each ordered a burger and a half yard beer, as well as an appetizer to share. The beer came first, and expectedly, it was huge nonetheless tasty. What really surprised us was the poke nachos. Thanks to my buddy who would rather die than let me take a photo of food, this is the only photo I have for that meal. But anyways you can see that the portion size wasn't great for the nachos, but man it was bomb. Spicy ahi was lightly marinated with poke sauce and lay on top of a layer of nachos. They didn't skimp on the ahi--it was actually quite much at this price. Next time I'd come at happy hour when they have this half off. The burger I ordered was made of lamb and tasted quite good. I wouldn't say it was heavenly but definitely much better than my friend's pork burger. I have absolutely no idea why they recommend that pork burger on the menu--I had a bite of my buddy's and we both agreed it was kind of dry. Probably due to the pork being fully cooked. read more

At The Collections in Oxnard Super clean, super staff and perfect food. Wife and I stopped in for lunch today. Seated promptly. Server Brandie was there in a heartbeat. She did not rush us. We took a few minutes to make our beverage choices. I was conflicted between a Stout or a Belgium. Brandie suggested a sample of each to help me decide. Ordered the Belgium. Then came the time to order the main course. I went with the Classic Cheeseburger. The wife ordered the Turkey stack with sweet potato fries. The burger was cooked exactly as ordered and the Turkey stack was both plentiful and very appealing to the eye. Needless to say we throughly enjoyed our meal and the experience overall. This place has all the hallmarks of a well run establishment. Spoke with manager Dan (forgive me if I got that wrong). Not surprisingly he was delighted to hear our appreciation. Bad reviews dont make sence indeed If you live around Ventura and Oxnard area, you can definetely realize thats not Santa Barbara or Santa Monica. Very less options to eat or drink and Yard House shines like a diamond among all options. This is a deadly boring area, if you are not a surfer or if you are coming from a vibrant life. I am a new resident and a completely bored one who is looking forward to leave this area as soon as possible when the job is done. Food is bar food, you cant expect a Michelin menu forsure. Still what i had so far was more than ok compared to any other options in the area. Selections of the tab beers is quite satisfying. I am going to Yard House at least 2 times a week and having 10 beers at least per week. As a mediterranean, i can recommand their hummus. Its allright for a bar in US. My mother-in-law ordered the fish and chips. When it arrived it was an extreme dark brown. We asked if it was supposed to look like that and they said yes. We questioned it again because it was practically uneditable and we sent it back and the waiter acted like we were crazy. Later a manager came by and made excuses about the fish is thick so they have to overcook it. I'm always happy with the food at Yard House. This was my first time to the Oxnard location. It was a good experience, but we ordered the NACHOS here (we added steak, in addition to the chicken --- I HIGHLY recommend doing that, by the way!), and the toppings on the nachos were pretty light. The chicken & steak were cooked perfectly though. The nachos I ordered at the Yard House I've been to in Northern California, were absolutely LOADED!!! Sooooooo cheesy.... (so cheesy I've never seen nachos hooked up like that before, EVER!). Needless to say I was expecting the nachos to be towered high & made with the amount of cheese you'd find only in heaven-made nachos, so I was disappointed about that. The rest of the food was good. Went to this restaurant, no wait in the line and hardly anyone in there. We sat and waiting for our waiter to come for about 15 mim before we could even order drinks. By that time we ordered everything and anticiapted there shouldn't be much of a wait. After 15 min he brought our drinks, then proceeded to flirt with every table that had a female at it. We waited for our food for an hour! The waiter never asked us if we wanted refils and the food order was wrong and cold! The manager came to explain it was really busy, however it wasn't when we arrived, so that was just a cop out. We got a discount for the wait on our check, but the service was so terrible that it should have been comped. Wow. Decided to come back again because of a couple reasons. Number 1... great happy hour. Both the food and drink are so reasonable. And the quality is great! And number two. Sports galore, but not the Buffalo Wild Wings, paper plate "hurry up and clear the table" vibe. Now on to what this yelp review is really going to be focused on. I walked in and was greeted by the friendliest, most genuine welcoming smile I've seen in weeks. Amanda, you truly made me feel like a #1 priority and instantly put me in a better mood. Furthermore, turns out you were a little under the weather, but wow. Nice poker face... A+!!! On to my bartender. I came in for happy hour and sat at the bar top with a nice gentleman named Tom. His beer knowledge and recommendations were on point. I came for a beer, maybe two and when I mentioned what I liked, he instantly rapped off 2 more suggestions for each type of beer I enjoyed that were in line with his personal favorites. After sampling, I went with his favorite, Paulaner, and now have yet another reason to come back!! Unfortunately, this location started using strange little tablets at each table. You're "supposed" to be able to order everything through this tablet. However, you are still given a server (she took our full order/we didn't even use the tablet once except to pay). I honestly prefer to have GOOD service rather than being able to input my order by myself. If I'm going to spend $90 on 2 people I want good service. The tablets at the table take away from the service by making the servers feel like they do not need to come check on you. I have been coming to this location for years and my last experience here was by far my worst.
