I had the jewel polo with steamed chicken. I love the sweet and savory. The sour cherries were so good with the rice and chicken. The best part of the meal was having it the next day! The only thing that has changed is their pricing. $27 for a meat,rice, and tomato plate. They aren't cheap with their portion which is nice. The first time we came to Yas Restaurant was over 8 years ago, so this review is long overdue. My husband and I love Persian/Mediterranean food and this place is so delicious. We brought my parents and brothers here long ago and it was their first time trying Persian/Mediterranean food. They loved it. I now bring my three teenage kids and they love it. We love all the meats such as the fish kabob (salmon), chicken, shishlik (lamb), fillet, and koobideh (ground beef). We get the variety so we can get a great taste of each of the flavorful meats. We also love the appetizers. Kashk-o-Bademjan is so flavorful. Two of my kids do not like eggplant, but they love this pureed eggplant. Mast-o-Khiar is also an amazing appetizer that brings this nice delicate freshness to begin the start of our amazing dinner. Sahar is also amazing every time we go to Yas Restaurant. I decided to give it another try and unfortunately we had a terrible experience. Waited over an hour for our food to arrive and the chicken was completely uncooked and pink inside. When I told them, there was no apology and they just took the same chicken and overcooked and brought the same plate pack. So if the plate was contaminated with the uncooked chicken, it could potentially contaminate the rice too. While we were waiting, others that came after us, received their food way before us and finished eating when we got our food. So instead of coming to apologize for the delay and offering some bread or something while we were waiting, they just avoided our table. Not only that, they charged us %20 tip automatically. When I politely told them that things were so bad, the server said we were so busy with online orders that our grill was full. No apologies or acknowledgment! Their food SUCKED! Food quality is just plain lousy. Ghormeh Sabzi tasted like crap, it's not made fresh but likely from pre- packaged mass produced batch sold in super market, mixed with other spices, and a human hair. (Yuck! Wear a hair net!). Old, bland and unappetizing. I am grateful for the two pieces of beef meats in the bowl. :) In fact, it's much worse than grocery store quality such as those sold in Rose Market in Mountain View. TBH, I make better Ghormeh Sabzi than them as this is my favorite Persian dish. I have never eaten Ghormeh Sabzi worse than this one in my life! Ghmei had undercooked split peas, without any saffron aroma. It tasted bland. Salmon kabob was too sour as they were marinated in lime juice for too long; as a result, they taste like lime than salmon. It's not worth it at $29. Beef Kabob, puffed up with baking soda, was the only passable dish. If they get it wrong, they can close shop. Rice has no trace of Saffron aroma. I smelled it. Neither Saffron nor Tumeric but food coloring. Don't fool me on Saffron. I use them all the time and also grow them in my garden. Persian rice is supposed to spice it with Saffron. If not, at least tumeric. With the price they charge, they are so cheap to the bone! Persian tea had no flavor. It's incomparable to the tea bag my deceased mother-in-law used to serve me. It might be old or expired. Service was slow. Bathroom disgusting. You rarely see bathroom being ugly, filthy and inattentive in a Persian restaurant, but in case you are still curious, Yas has one. No wonder the crowd was so light on a Nowruz night. Our happy Nowruz festivity just didn't include a happy meal. I guess that's life. I used to come here regularly but now there are more options in the South Bay. I didn't get a picture of the koobideh, but my wife wasn't too pleased with it. She said it's either not as flavorful as before or our palates evolved. I'd say it's the latter but it also could have just been a bad koobi-DAY. I must say that green drink was the highlight of our meal. It's too bad I was the designated driver and we had 2 munchkins with us. I think it's similar to a melon ball, but a much stronger alcohol content. I wasn't impressed with the lamb and chicken dish. Although the lamb was tender, I thought it was a pricey dish for what you get. Both of us complained that we didn't get enough rice. I guess being Asians we want those mismatched ratios of meat/rice. I also felt like we're missing some contrasting flavors. I wish they include the shabzi or at least some onions on the side when you order a meal. I'd like to leave on a high note. Their chicken is delicious. It's has a distinct sour flavor which I'm guessing is from some type of lemon marinade or derived from the sumac. The beef koobideh was my favorite out of the rest so I recommend trying that when you visit the restaurant. Ambience is decent. For the main course: My husband got the Chef's Special and I got fesejan vegetarian version. My husband said that the beef was better than the chicken, but both were a little salty for him. My dish was stellar, and I particularly liked the unique combination of walnuts and pomegranates. We both enjoyed some tea alongside this meal, which was served at just the right temperature. Today's comments are more about the dine-in ambience than the food. We liked 2 of 3 three plates ordered and the appetizer, too. Food temp was hot and presented well. The bone-in chicken was too dry and too spicy/sour. Other comments: I feel that maybe there are more tables now. Not sure, but the space seemed more crowded. I remember a time when they used tablecloths; maybe with a plastic or paper cover, but still, white tablecloths, which softened and refined the atmosphere. Also remember flowers on each table. The thin white sheets of paper under each plate and thin, small napkins made this feel more like a fast food restaurant. I think there is a somewhat new floor, which, I'm sure, is more sanitary than the previous carpet, but also reverberates sound more, especially when the music is loud. read more

The salad was average and the chicken koobideh was very greasy. The complimentary bread came and was cold..not even room temperature. So we requested for them to warm it up and they did. It came with butter, basil, feta cheese and onions. The rice in the plate was nice and the chicken kabob my husband had he said was an 8/10. They only have bottled water and by bottled, it's just a generic plastic water bottle. Would be nice if they got some kind of filter to just serve you a free glass of water or just give from the tap. Yassssss! I finally got to try Yas, an established Persian resto in an older strip. I will never turn down an invite to go check out a Persian place as their food just checks off on my cravable list. Flavorful grilled meats: Check. Well cooked basmati rice: Check. Some veggie component: Wellll a grilled tomato, good enough...Check. And even though I find Persian food to be much milder than Afghan or Turkish, there is still a level of finesse that the other 2 may lack in most cases. So it has a certain niche for me. Table service and I did see bottles of hard liquor in a very small bar/service area, but it is definitely not a bar where you can sit at. I didn't order any but next visit I may finish with a whiskey or cognac after an elegant meal here. Tahdig ($14/2.5*) First time having this but I think the way the prep/execute this is way off from what I've seen on cooking shows/websites. From what I've seen it is a laborious dish of perfectly cooked basmati rice with saffron, but they spend extra time and effort into putting a crisp crust on the bottom of the pan, so there is that layer of crisp and toasty rice, much like what you'd get from a good Spanish Paella or Korean Bibimbap dish. What arrived to our table was indeed crisp rice, but it was like premade room temp rice. So it was extremely crunchy and chewy, far from being delicate and brittle, which is what I was expecting. It was topped with a nice beef and lentil stew which actually helped in getting that tough rice down after a good chew. Without that stew, this rice would have been extremely hard to eat on its own. Big miss for me. Chicken and Lamb Kabob Combo ($25/5*) This is where they shine, in their grilled kabobs. I do want to try other dishes here like stewed meats and veggies, but it may be real hard for me to deviate from their grilled meats selection. Always love the presentations in Persian restaurants, it is the most skillful in all of the Middle Eastern cultures. The meats are always meticulously. cut in super uniform cuts, and always grilled with a noticeable char, that along with the spicing makes my mouth so very happy. And the meats are always nice and juicy and pairs so damn well with fluffy basmati rice. Beef Koodibeh Platter ($20/5*) I thought I was happy with the lamb and chicken kabobs, but I think this is their flagship dish here. Sure it is ground beef but it is in how they elevate/transform that ground beef is an art form that I just cannot downplay. How it is perfectly spiced, how they make it so playfully chewy and spring-y, then how they can simutaneously create a charred crust but keep the interior perfectly juicy. I can eat this weekly if I could, but I live too far away from doing so. I love crushing the grilled/charred tomato into the perfectly cooked basmati rice, then to take bites with the grilled meats. To me it is in my top 5 meals. And even though the plates here all exceed the $20 mark, they do give out a lot of food, so to me I always get to pack a little home for another meal, so I do find some value here. Even though I didn't really mesh with the appetizer dish, the main plates were enough for me to conclude that this is a legit option for when I'm craving a Persian grilled meat plate. 4.5* rounding up cuz it's legit as heck. read more
