I'm writing a review so I remember this fabulous little restaurant! My husband and I like to try different restaurants. We love supporting local businesses. Boy, did we hit the jackpot! The owner was our server. The experience was emotional that resulted in giving a her hug. Who does that?!? Yes, us! I can't even pronounce the dishes we tried and ended up speechless. The balance of taste and goodness was outspoken! We started with the poached egg dish and basically licked the plate clean when nobody was looking. You could tell it was homemade as you tasted each ingredient that hugged your tastebuds with the time and passion it took to develop this dish. I had a chicken dish and he had the fried ball dish. Owner was responsive to allergies to keep us safe. Glad we ordered a bottle from the carefully selected wine list to partake from as we took this culinary journey. The ambience was terrific. It was small, but not cramped. We arrived after the dinner rush. The owner could have rushed us but actually appeared to enjoy having us there! It was closing time so we ordered dessert as a carry out because we were so full, but didn't want to miss out on dessert. The baklava piece could have been bigger, which is my only comment for improvement. I can't wait to be in the area again to try more. I hope the restaurant continues to be successful. Came here for breakfast and was not disappointed. First time here. Street parking which is fine as there are some spots for parking in front, along the main road or plenty of side street options. Started with an iced nut n' honey. It was good - not bad/not great. Didn't really have much flavor, might be better tried hot. Got the Hash braised meatballs and sauteed leek over hand cut chopped fries - chose my egg to be scrambled. It was PACKED with flavor. I also added hot sauce on the side which is their homemade sauce. 50 cent charge. The waiter warned us it was spicy, but I didn't think so. It was good flavor though and while the dish didn't need anything else, I love hot sauce with eggs so I thought it was a nice addition. For dessert I had to get the Baklava. It's a little different than noted on the menu as the waiter said they were trying it with sauce and a type of yogurt on top. I forget all the details, but boy was I glad I listened to our waiter and got it. It was AMAZING! I could have eaten a dozen of them! It was just a bit hard to cut, but it was so good. This is a nice little place and I can't wait to come back and try dinner!! It's small inside but it's clean and set up nicely with enough tables and counter top seating if you choose. I think this might be 21+ as we were asked if we were both over 21 when we came in and then I heard him ask the gentleman that came in after us. So keep that in mind if coming and thinking about bringing kids. read more

Menu says loose leaf tea but I was brought a cup of hot water with a teabag with an Amazon tag of tea dust...definitely NOT leaves. Just please adjust wording on menu accordingly lol...that teabag lol Did not care for the scramble but the thing that bothered me most was the condescending attitude of my server who consistently referred to me as "honey, sweetie, dear" etc which was very disrespectful to me as a senior citizen black woman..so much so that I did have to mention to him to not disrespect women like that! Nice little neighborhood cafe. Very welcoming folks and atmosphere. Killer coffee if I may say so. I just had a regular cup of joe, but they also offer many fancy coffee concoctions. Something for every taste. Their menu is small and a little eclectic. Something for the adventurous amongst us, which is not a bad thing by any means. I chose the hash with my eggs over easy and it was delicious. The crepes, bennys and shakshukas also received high marks from my group members. Parking can be quite difficult in this area and you may need to move onto some side streets. read more

One of my new favorite restaurants. Their food is flavorful, well-balanced, and thoughtful. The chickpea salad is served well-chilled, making it a refreshing accompaniment to the dishes we ordered. And it's not boring by any means. The well-cooked consistency of the chickpeas and the flavor of the dressing were perfect. I could eat a whole bowl by myself. Their shakshuka was another great vegetarian option, served with their fry bread. The moussaka bowl was a hit at the table, especially the bolognese. Everything was well-seasoned. Not bland and not too salty. Just right. It's a great place to order family-style if you're with a group. Employees are friendly, with great service. The owner greeted us and created a welcoming environment. The chef came to the table and we could see his passion for cooking and producing quality dishes. read more

I waited too long. That's on me. Now, I'm going to make Yazsh a regular spot in my rotation. We popped by with some reservations on a Saturday and I was blown away. I'm half middle eastern so was really looking forward to our visit. First, the falafel is perfect. It's not the overly fried version you'll find elsewhere. It's soft and really brings out everything that goes into it. We also got the baklava. This isn't a weird sweaty looking baklava in plastic wrap. This is the real deal. My grandma used to come to visit from Jordan and this tasted just like hers. Finally, everyone from the owner to the chef are just great folks. Can't wait to go back. read more

Oooooo! A new place close to home! I've been waiting for Yazsh to open since their sign went up months ago. I went with a group for brunch. Their menu isn't overwhelming but I still struggled making a decision. I landed on the salmon benedict. I loved the puff pastry used for the bread and my salmon was delicious. I was surprised it didn't have a poached egg. The sauce was flavorful but slightly salty for me. All the same, I was happy with my food. I also got a spiced mocha, which was quite good. Most of the dishes were under $20. The space is small and parking will be on the street. I was able to walk, which makes me super happy. I am so excited about a new restaurant in this area and look forward to a return visit to try some of those other dishes. Try Yazsh for something tasty and a little different! read more

Had an amazing breakfast with my brother (it's walking distance from his house). Excellent service. Loved the open, bright, and airy atmosphere. I got the hash and my brother got the egg scramble. Both were great. Serving sizes were a bit small for the price, IMHO and I didn't really see the fries in my hash. We both asked for hot sauce and got individual house made hot sauce that was amazing! Be careful though, the heat will sneak up on ya! I got the 3 and 1 coffee as it was something different and really liked it. Just ok. People were really friendly, thrilled to see a neighborhood serving place here, and I wanted to love the food, but it was just ok. I ordered a Mousakka bowl and was really bummed out that eggplant and (I think) strips of squash were battered and deep fried. The meat sauce to bechamel ratio also made it too heavy. Their cucumber salad is pre-prepared and so you couldn't omit anything. (Well the menu said "modifications politely declined" anyway), Their salad had too much going on it. One of my favorite Mediterranean salads is cucumber, tomato, and onion, but this one also had tri color peppers and didn't taste like it had lemon juice, which always freshens up the dish. I'm so happy this area has a cute and delicious cafe to grab lunch or coffee! I came on opening weekend and had a lovely time. The owner greeted me and asked me a few questions about myself. The wait staff is really attentive and kind as well. The inside feels so cozy and I loved the homage to the owners familial roots with all the photos on the wall. It was just me, so I ordered the sausage melt and a coffee to go. The sausage melt was to die for!!! Unique and bold flavors that worked so well together. The specialty latte was very yummy as well. WOW!!!! Two of us had lunch here today and what a delightful experience. After chatting with the chef, we started with a Vanilla/Cardamon Cold Foam coffee which was flavorful and creamy. I could've had several. I had the Falafel sandwich with Feta Fries. The falafel was sliced thin with the added veggies including kale - sublime! The fries were highlighted with a creamy bechamel sauce and feta. Delicious. My friend started with the yogurt soup. It was very refreshing and flavorful. The Benedict was next with Salmon on top. The pastry which served as the base was an unexpected, flavorful surprise. We both finished with Syrup Cake and Halva. We both will be returning to this "gem" near Woodruff Place. All the stars for this place. We had the feta fries for a starter which was delicious. We all had a different entree - the Bulgarian Arancini, the moussaka bowl, and Orzo bolognese, which all delivered. The atmosphere was cozy with wonderful and friendly family service. My partner and I really enjoyed our meals! We could tell that the food was cooked with great ingredients and with great care! My partner had the arancini and it was perfection. All of the flavors were balanced and bright! I had the lukanka salami sandwich and it was so flavorful without being too heavy. We also really loved the service and the atmosphere. This place is so cute! I drive downtown taking Michigan almost every morning and I saw a sign for this place go up, and then soon after saw the Indy Star article about them. Me and my friend went here for brunch and I got the amazing crepes! My friend got the hash and said they really enjoyed that the meatballs were cut up when cooked so all sides were crispy. They have an extensive specialty coffee menu, as well as tea and other non coffee drinks. I got the lavender matcha and they gave me a big glass!! More than 12 oz for sure! My friend got the mimosa and it was the perfect ratio of champagne to orange juice. Lastly the chef and the staff came over to talk to us and the chef explained that the menu changes with the seasons and everything is so fresh they don't even use a freezer! Everything gets used up! I'm really looking forward to Chef Trevor's veggie burgers coming back to the menu. There is a lot of good options for vegetarians like me and the staff is well informed on what is in each item on the menu (ex chicken broth in the potato soup). A must go! We went for breakfast, & out of many inventive choices, I opted for simple scrambled eggs & toast. They were hands-down the best scrambled eggs I've ever had, studded with fresh vegetables & herbs. Our foodie group came to check out the new restaurant Yazsh for brunch one Sunday afternoon and it was worth the experience. This new Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Indy served a variety of brunch items and unique beverages that I had never heard of which caught my attention. This is a small venue, so there is not a lot of space for large groups. You would definitely need to arrive early in the morning to guarantee a seat because it fills up quickly, or have a seat at the bar. The ambiance is very quaint and nice with a beautiful bar area, and the artwork on the walls are lovely and very personable. It does make you feel like you are at home when you come to Yazsh. The food is incredible and top notch quality. The beverages are also very impressive. I ordered the egg Scramble entree with a matcha Lavender Latte. The matcha Lavender Latte was fantastic and tasted amazing. It was very fresh off the machine and the combination of flavors came out of the beverage. The egg Scramble entree was just perfect! The eggs were very fresh and the combination of veggies made it taste even more delicious. I also had a side of fruit cup which was very good and very fresh. I sampled the crepes which were pure heaven in my mouth. The chickpea salad is also the best thing that they have on the menu. It is a great healthy side dish to accompany your entree. The service is wonderful and incredible among the staff. They took very good care of our group and made sure we had everything we needed. Yazsh is a wonderful new addition to downtown Indy and I predict it will stay around for a long time. Everything about this place is perfect and flawless! You need to come experience brunch at Yazsh! I met a friend for brunch in this cute little restaurant. He saw the Star article, but was a little wary because some of the reviews weren't stellar. I wanted to write a review to set the record straight: the food was AMAZING! My friend had the soup special (cold cucumber) and we split a Bafti wrap. I'm not a big fan of cold soup but my friend loved it. The wrap was delicious! The cucumber/tomato salad on the side was also very tasty. We shared some Halva for dessert - it was a different texture than I expected (because I've had it from several other places), but the unique texture and fig/chocolate sauce with chopped pistachios was a hit! The waiter was super nice and informative, and the owner came over to make sure we were enjoying everything. I also had a yummy spiced mocha - not overly sweet, and I really enjoyed the touch of orange. I will definitely come here again - highly recommend! read more

I learned today that Yazsh means "eat" in Bulgarian! And wow this spot was so good and worth every bite! Right next to Woodruff Place Baptist Church on Michigan street, this cozy cafe is saturated in lovely teal and teak hues, with a small variety of seating arrangements and original art on the walls. I ordered the Lavender Lemon latte with oat milk - it was beyond delicious. I was completely blown away by the fresh lemon zest and delicious lavender flavor. The server was personable and authentic, and was sure to check in with me consistently - although I was one of few people dinning in. We chatted about the food and I ordered the Hash, which I assume is the Bulgarian take on poutine. It was unique, cooked to order, filling, and delicious! I also ordered the crepes to take home to my family. We discovered that we love pistachio cream ricotta, and that a Bulgarian crepe is much thicker than other style crepes! While I was surprised by the intimate setting and the steeper-than-expected price tags on everything (cheapest plate on the menu I saw was $14. $16 for a tomato cucumber salad too...), this chef driven menu, artful drinks, and friendly customer service definitely made my stop worth it. I'll be returning soon, to see what the sound and experience is like with a more full restaurant. There was someone talking really loud while I was there that made it hard to focus on anything else, but she may have been the owner and if so, more power to her lol. I think the cost could be a little lower but I will definitely be back. read more

Should I even post this? I want to hide this little gem away. First of all, great service. But the food and coffee. Really inventive coffee, like nut and honey latte and Mexican mocha. I had the crepes and they tasted like Christmas. Cinnamon, cloves, pistachio and stuffed with fig jam. Their hash is divine. Spicy with lots of peppers and onions. We first started with the Feta Fries, ah man they were so addicting with the bechamel and feta. Between us all we got the salmon poached Benedict with a fresh baked Banista, the Hash with a side of the parfait (homemade yogurt!), sausage melt (perfectly spicy), and finally the Bafti wrap (we had someone who didn't like lamb but loved this!). Went with a friend from out-of- town Saturday night. He had did a smorgasbord board of sides (Feta Fries, Picada Salad, and Chickpea Salad with Zucchini Strips) and I had the French Onion soup and Moussaka Bowl. We both enjoyed our meals and agreed that the zucchini stripe need to be an appetizer offering. Everyone was friendly and attentive.
