We were in the greater Tampa area for a funeral, when we went to get some Cuban food. We heard about Ybor Grille on Yelp, and saw it was close to where we were staying in Ruskin. All we could say is "wow!" We ended up eating here 3 times on our 5 day trip. EVERYTHING from here was great. Our boys, who are picky eaters, loved everything they tried. The "devil crab" was great, the papas rellenas were amazing, the sandwiches were certifiably on point. I cannot say enough how AMAZING the food is here!!! We have been twice and everything we have had has been wonderful! Highly recommend the 7th be filet, the filter tips, the Brussels and bacon cabbage, the fiesta corn. All of these were so good, we couldn't stop talking about how good our food was the whole time! Very upscale on the inside looking place, clean, well kept, organized, nice fixtures, and overall very attractive place to go for a nice meal. Plenty of parking around the building, which sits sort of by itself, where once there was a large strip mall behind it. The service was average to slow at times, but was friendly and nice. We did have to search for our server as once we were finished eating we could not find her, so I got up and searched the place, but she was better at hiding than Waldo, so I sat back down and continued to wait, until she returned. the food prep was very nice, presentation was good, taste was above average, and prices are on the higher side as expected. If it wasn't for the 15 minute wait to get my bill so we could leave I would have given 1 more star. The place was not busy when I was there this day either. I will go again, and hopefully won't have to wait for my bill, as that's 1 pet peeve of mine, because when I am done and ready to leave a place, I do not like waiting extra long times for the server to finally take my payment, ha. read more

We're so happy that we found Ybor Grille. We were visiting Florida and searched for a highly-rated restaurant near our location. For lunch, we ordered the Cuban Sandwich piled with ham, pork, salami, swiss and pickles, and served on a flat, Cuban bread roll. Delightful! For desert, we ordered the bread pudding which is prepared in-house. Delicious! And our waitress, Judy, was very friendly and quite efficient. We truly enjoyed this restaurant experience. Visiting in the area, wanted something different so we stopped in. Asked our waitress Shannon for a recommendation and she was point on. The steak special was AMAZING!! One of our favorite spots for authentic Cuban food. The menu has allot of traditional items but also number of specialty items. The daily specials are always a really good option. The restaurant has ample seating. It is always really fresh and clean. They have a good bar and I highly recommend the house sangria or the daily drink special. The staff is extremely professional but amazingly friendly and they always make you feel welcome when first time or 100th time. But clearly you know it is good food when you see the same patrons when you are there.. it is a must try and definitely worth repeating. read more

As always a great local eatery that's been around for years finally found themselves in the perfect location! Now offering outdoor seating as well as a full bar! My favorites the olive butter, guava cheesecake, Cuban sandwiches, or deep fried house chips, & Yucca. Since moving to the new location there is a small increase in prices, i'm pretty much stuck on my favorite dish which is the sirloin I always get a salad with the house creamy herb dressing & and I switch up the other side between yellow rice, Spanish beans, yucca, plantains, or a even soup now a favorite! We've been to Ybor Grille several times and it was always very good. This time was a big disappointment. The kitchen was behind and service was slow. We waited almost an hour for our entrees. The server explained that they were deluged with takeout orders. When it's a busy Saturday night and your kitchen can't keep up with your dining room patrons, then don't accept carry out orders on the weekends if you can't handle it When the food finally did arrive, it was a disappointment. The shrimp was drenched in excessive butter and the fish sandwich presentation looked like a fast food order. Finally, when we got our check, it was $9 for a party of 4. Obviously, it was a mistake which we pointed out to our server. She said she forgot to add a zero and that it should have been $90. No "thank you for telling us". You'd think with the long wait and the fact that we saved them $80+ dollars, they'd offer us a dessert to go or a discount on the check. Nothing. Not even a thank you. A lot of people would have just paid the $9. It will be a long time before we return. If we return. read more

On my recommendations, we both ordered the Mojo Pork, side salad with balsamic & blue cheese crumbles along with garlic mash potatoes and/or cabbage. I convinced him their red Sangria was outstanding too. I hate to say it but I lied to my friend. Ybor Grille food has definitely changed and not for the better. I kept thinking, my wife and I have been coming here for over 15 years. The food used to have such great flavor and was seasoned just right. You couldn't stop eating it. Today all the food and even the Sangria had little to no flavor. I felt like I had been prescribed a "Bland Diet". We both took home over 2/3rds of our food. Both of us thought we could spice it up at home. My wife ate here about a month ago with a group of ladies. She said she had the "Black Bean Soup" tasted like it came right out of a can. Come on guys, check the order before you give it to the customer. Why three stars and not one? The food and service there is really good, have eaten there for 10+ years. Eat in, but do not order take out, I know I should check the order but really. The time when they left a dinner out I did check to see and they still left something out of another dinner. Ybor Grille is one of Ruskins little secrets. They serve every good food that is consistent in Quality and which always provides Cuban-American flavors in its dishes. It's a nice restaurant that the management takes pride in and it shows in the food, the wait staff and the food. I have eaten there a half dozen times in the past year and never been disappointed. I'm not sure how authentic the Cuban food there is as our Cuban friend was disappointed they didn't serve sandwiches in her type of cuban bread. Can't please everyone. The soup is outstanding. I only wish they had two 'soup of the day' choices as almost every time it involves beans, which IS authentic but ugh, my tummy! I only have had one meal here I didn't care for, so I like to go for lunch OR dinner. The decor is amazing. My favorite is the cigar box wall even though we are not cigar fans. Cuban food done right is what they're serving and with the greatest service. I watched the owner himself cleaning tables, bringing drinks, doing whatever needed doing as well as introducing himself and asking how the food was. Now the food, let me tell you, it was fantastic and right on point. Between the five of us, we tried several different things. Two of us shared the Taste of Ybor, which was the roast pork, ropa vieja, and picadillo - all were perfectly cooked. In fact the picadillo had whole olives in it, which melted in your mouth like butter, although I really want to spell it buttaaaa for emphasis on how soft they were - delicious! The Spanish green beans were really good, and of course plantains, plump and cooked just right. Thank goodness we chose to share because I was stuffed when we finished! One person would have leftovers to go, unless you're starving like Marvin. The grouper sandwiches came with large portions of Spanish potatoes, which is The Grille's version of homemade potato chips - GET THEM. Don't settle for fries. GET THEM, and don't share them unless you really love the person you're sharing with, and you're sure they love you just as much. They're not your ordinary "homemade potato chips". They're potato-ey. I've never tasted a more potato-ey thing ever and they're not a salt block either, which "the other chips" always are. (GET THEM!!) The grouper itself was large and fresh off the fire so it was hot and not soggy, always a plus with fried food. The little guy had a hamburger which, although on the kid's menu, was man-sized, but he had no trouble putting it way, bite by bite. And trust me, he's a picky eater. And he didn't talk through the meal - another sure sign it was good. He had the fries, which were plentiful and hot. (He should've gotten the chips since he sat by me...alas.) The beers on tap were cold. Blue Moon and Cigar City Jai Alai were the two tried. Okay, they were gulped. Don't judge. OH!!! I almost forgot...we started with a basket of the mini deviled crabs. First I should say, I am a deviled crab connoisseur and a long time firm believer in the power of the 'Seabreeze' and their deviled crabs. (If you have to google that, you don't deserve to be on this page!) Where was I, I'm starting to drool. Oh yeah, Ybor Grille's deviled crabs, the minis, had something the 'Breeze crabs don't. Couldn't put my finger on it other than less breading and something in the crab mixture. But if you are way out in Apollo Beach, and don't feel like the trip up town to the Seabreeze, these would definitely be UP to standards!! We were all talking about them hours later - the less breading because they're smaller was the trick, I believe. Less breading translates in your mouth to more crab. Anyway, go.
