Large bowl

"Stack It High, Watch It Fry at YC's" YC's Mongolian Grill in Gilbert feels less like a restaurant and more like an Arizona tradition. Established more than 30 years ago, YC's has built a loyal following across Valley locations including Tempe, Scottsdale, and Gilbert. The place was packed when our party visited, full of families, regulars, and longtime fans, which made sense when my husband shared that their Tempe location was his go-to spot back when he was a college student at ASU. It's casual, lively, and nostalgic -- the kind of place that clearly holds memories for many locals. YC's is known for its signature "bowl" concept, where you grab a bowl and build your own meal from a wide selection of noodles, meats, fresh vegetables, and countless sauces ranging from sweet to spicy. Stack it high, mix what you like, then watch your creation cooked right in front of you on a massive sizzling grill -- part dinner, part show. The food comes out hot, fresh, and simply yummy, exactly how you designed it. If you haven't been to YC's, give it a try -- build a bowl, stay awhile, and you'll see why people keep coming back with a satisfied tummy.

The food and selection here were amazing. I had not been to this restaurant before and they were great in helping us out with telling us how it all worked. I like that they had a separate little dessert area and I enjoyed the variety of selections. The sauces were interesting as they had some but I have seen more elsewhere and I've also seen a larger variety of meats elsewhere as well. But for the location and such it is a good place to go and it was decently priced. The place was clean inside, although the one restroom was a bit of a pain as we had to wait for someone to get out in order to use it. I wish they had at least two stalls in the restroom. I would definitely return here if I lived close by.

I'd have to give 4 stars for YC's Mongolian Grill. I've been to several Mongolian grills before, many at a similar (or cheaper) price points, and most offer unlimited rounds, unlike the roughly $20 we paid here for a single round. While the single serving was definitely plenty of food, it does feel a bit high compared to other Mongolian grills I've been to. The restaurant was busy during the lunch rush. It's not outdated by any means, but it also didn't feel especially new or vibrant inside. That said, the staff was incredibly kind, insightful, and helpful, especially when answering questions about ordering and assisting with sauce combinations. There are lots of great mix-ins and toppings to choose from, though many of the sauces were fairly runny and pooled at the bottom of the bowl rather than sticking to the proteins, noodles, and vegetables. Not the best Mongolian grill dish I've ever had, but I would certainly eat at YC's again.

Came back to YC's after not being here for quite a while, and per usual it was a great overall experience. The staff was extremely helpful! they assisted with making sauces and took the time to explain the different flavor options, which I really appreciated. As always, you've got to stack your bowl to the tippy top and let it overflow. that's part of the fun. The only downside is that they no longer offer to-go boxes unless you pay or the free soft-serve ice cream, which was such a nice touch before. I really hope they bring that back. Still a solid spot and worth the visit.

Me and almost all of my brothers meeting for lunch

Went here for lunch with my brothers. We were greeted very warmly, and they helped the first timers with some "pro tips" for how to load your bowl and with the sauces. The food is amazing, fresh, and cooked right in front of you. And the diner is very clean. They even have outdoor seating. This is definitely a place to go with larger groups and get your money worth. You'll definitely get full, and probably be taking home leftovers.

Food is honestly not that amazing but the portions are pretty great. No matter how much sauce you put in the sauce bowl it will never have very much flavor.

Another great experience at YC's. The staff is equally as good as their food. Everything was stocked, looked fresh and prepared superbly. Don't pass this option up for a healthy family friendly experience.

I've really missed this place, so I was thrilled to see it open again! YC's has always been my go‑to spot for a customizable, delicious meal. Being able to build my own bowl and watch it cook right in front of me is a treat, and everything tastes as amazing as I remembered. So happy it's back in the rotation--can't wait to go again!

First time here , very clean ,a lot of tables to sit at , greeted right away , told how to do it , was asked it needing help with the sauces , . After putting all our food in a bowl , and so many things to choose from , from beef, chicken to tofu, lots and lots of veggies , and so many combinations to of sauces to add -liked how it was labeled out , (what made the sauce) noodles as well , they grilled it smelled amazing as well as taste great -drinks and soup also if you wanted it , price was just right After sitting down they made a point of coming around asking how it was and if we needed anything , we will go back . Wasn't overly crowded-but people kept coming in

This was the first time dining at a place like this outside of the food court in the Bay Area malls. There were a variety of noodles, toppings, meats, and sauces to choose from. I love that they also had some suggested sauce combinations for you to try out. To control spillage, the sauces go in a separate bowl. You're able to pack your bowl and get quite a decent amount of food. My husband and I came here for lunch time and it was fairly packed. The line to cook your food goes fast and the food is cooked right in front of you too. Friendly atmosphere and great service. Keep in mind that takeout boxes are $0.50 if you can't finish your food. The experience was great overall.

Unfortunately, I was really disappointed :( To start, this restaurant is located in a large shopping center, so there is plenty of parking. We came as a party of 4 on a Saturday during lunch and were seated immediately. We sent our orders to the kitchen ourselves with a tablet, which is nice because you don't have to wait for the server each time you want to order more food. Unfortunately, when we received our first round of orders, more than half the dishes were cold, almost as if they've been sitting out for awhile. Even our egg drop soup wasn't warm, which was super disappointing. After we placed our second round of orders, I respectfully asked the server if they could make sure the food comes out warm this time since the first round was so cold. She was apologetic and agreed to let the kitchen know. Our second round was much better. The food was warm, but the first round of food made such a bad impression, I kinda already lost my appetite. Also, the server informed us that they charge an extra fee for any leftover food, even if it's just ONE dumpling. I found this rule to be pretty outrageous to charge an extra fee for just one uneaten dumpling. It's sad to say I will not be coming back here again. After seeing this place all over social media, I was so excited to try it. But unfortunately, I was disappointed. If you are thinking about trying this place, maybe don't do the AYCE option.

Service was a bit on the slower side, but there was only one lady helping at the front and assisting customers. Starting with the favorites: Dan Dan noodles were a tad salty but overall had great flavor The orange chicken and general tso's chicken were both really good and had a sweet sauce to them. I like that the general tso's came with some peppers and celery. Fried shrimp was crispy and loved the batter Fried golden buns were divine. Fried and crispy with a side of condensed milk. The not so favorites: Beef fried rice was horrible, had some kind of chemical taste and the beef cut is very cheap and flabby, yup I said it. Crab puffs, umm where was the crab? Fiery beef noodles were subpar, again with the cheap beef And unfortunately the dumplings are nothing to brag about. Lacked much flavored to the fillings, you aren't missing anything. I would say overall, give it a shot for lunch and you can try a bunch of options to find what you may like.

We were also very happy with the value that we got for our food. We ordered a Kung Pao Chicken lunch special, a Chicken and Vegetable lunch special, and the Golden Fried Prawns appetizer. They kept our waters full and never kept us waiting. The food also came out exceptionally quick and they were happy to answer any questions. Lastly, the ambiance is great. They have nightly entertainment and comfortable seating that make this the perfect outing. There is plenty of light and it is the nice casual vibe for lunch or dinner. We thought the salt and pepper pork was too dry or overcooked. And it doesn't seem fair to rate general Tso as it's a fried dish and by the time you eat it 40 minutes later, it's not crispy anymore. It was pretty good as we threw it in the air fryer to crisp it up. The staff was friendly and our food was ready in about 12 minutes. I can see why this place is popular.

As soon as you walk in the door they immediately get you seated at a table when there's availability. Menu is extensive, offering entrees we are not familiar with along with many of the usual suspects. And everything is served up quickly. They've recently posted an illustration on the walls about the dumplings, advising how to eat them so you don't burn yourself or your tongue. A little too late for me, but it made me chuckle. Each item we have tried has been fresh and delicious. I suppose we have gotten hooked on a few of our favorites and frequently order those items. Chous has become a favorite and certainly worth the wait when there is one. In the mood for Chinese food, specifically Northeastern Chinese cuisine? Or do you have the urge for delicious, homemade dumplings? Craving bold, hearty flavors? Chous fills that niche.

The fish was soft and quite average. Good spicy flavor though. The cumin lamb was fried and crunchy, which is different from how I usually see it cooked. Overall it was alright. The dumplings were outstanding and freshly made. The flavor was unlike any frozen ones I'd had before. Juicy and flavorful, imo the best dish here. Service was decent with frequent water refills. Ambiance was average for a Chinese restaurant with decor and a slightly dirty restroom.

I planned to place my order online and did not see the garlic chicken, just garlic shrimp. I was super disappointed. My daughter told me to just order whatever and I knew she had never had moo shu chicken and this is a dish I love so I decided to go with that. Needless to say, this restaurants moo shu chicken was not like any other moo shu I have ever had. I mean the crepe and plum sauce was the same but the chicken and veggies were different and not in a good way. The flavor was mild and the plum sauce that was spread on the crepe saved this dish. What was disappointing was they gave us one small condiment cup of plum sauce and it wasn't even filled to the top. It was enough for two crepes and we had 6 crepes and chicken and veggies to fill all the crepes. If the plum sauce was what saved this dish imagine my disappointment in not having enough plum sauce for the remaining crepes. They definitely need to give a larger portion of plum sauce. I have turned my daughter on to egg drop soup and she loves it from our usual Chinese restaurant so she wanted to try it here. This egg drop had corn and tofu (we think, but not sure) in it. It was very bland. She had to add soy sauce to it to spruce up the flavor. We always order wonton chips for egg drop soup and did this time too. Their wonton chips were bland as well. Lastly, we ordered crab puffs and the same wonton shells were used for the crab puffs. Just another item that was bland. If I could get the garlic chicken I would try this place again but since I can't I don't foresee us ordering from here again. We will drive a few miles down the street to get our favorite place.
